The Duo-Species Challenge

The Duo-Species Challenge

The Challenge:
The Duo-Species Challenge is a challenge where you use two, and only two Pokemon to complete a game.

Rules:
1. You can only use your two Pokemon you signed up with. You cannot use any other Pokemon under any circumstances, if both of your Pokemon faint, and you have HM Slaves, you must let them faint, not battle at all. NFE Pokemon are allowed to be used, and you can use as many HM slaves as you need.
If one of these apply, you may hack at the beginning at level 5 or lower, or as an egg. (HAs and Egg Moves are allowed, as for IVs, idc)
2. To complete each game, you must:
RBGYFRLG - Defeat your Rival as Champion
GSCHGSS - Defeat Lance (Kanto and Red are now optional)
RSEORAS - Defeat Steven(RSORAS*)/Wallace(E)
DPPt - Defeat Cynthia
BWB2W2 - Defeat Ghetsis(BW)/Iris(B2W2)
XY - Defeat Diantha
3. Legendaries are not recommended, as they will take away the challenge, but you absolutely can if you want.
4. Pokemon-Amie, Mega-Evolution, and Z-Crystals are banned. Super Training is allowed.
5. You can sign-up for Single, Ultimate, or Rule-Free. Single is one game, ultimate is one game of each generation, and Rule-Free is no rules, just play however you want.
6. Hacks are allowed, but full hacks are not allowed in Ultimates. Enhanced Hacks (eg. Blaze Black, Sacred Gold) however, are allowed in Ultimates.
7. Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hacking/Trading Rules: (These are a must read)
Spoiler:
You may trade in one Mega Stone if none of your Pokemon have stones available pre-E4. If even one of your Pokemon have a Mega Stone available pre-E4, you can not trade any in.
Any and all hacking and trading is forbidden, except in these cases:*
1. (Pokemon) You are using a Pokemon not available before the first badge.
2. (Pokemon) You are using a Pokemon not in the Regional Pokedex or Version Exclusive (i.e. Shiftry in AS or Ledian in HG).
3. (Item) Any item needed to evolve that isn't available pre-E4.
3a. If you need a stone that is only available pre-E4 via Pick-Up, you can hack it in.
4. Pokemon evolves by trading but you can't trade, then you can evolve via hacking. You can do it any time that you could do it legitimately in-game. For example, you cannot not hack to evolve Onix to Steelix until you legitimately obtain a Metal Coat in-game.
If any of these apply, you may hack at the beginning at level 5 or lower, or as an egg. (HAs and Egg Moves are allowed, as for IVs, idc)
You CAN hack your Pokemon to be shiny, since it is purely visuals, but obviously, do not offer these in the trade corner as they are still not legit.

*This seems to be an issue that was unclear in the Duo-Species challenge, and it also applies here.
You can NOT trade in a Pokemon already evolved, even if you have to wait until right before the E4 to evolve, then wait, no hacking/trading. If you can't evolve at all pre-E4, then too bad.

Added. :)
-------------------------------------------------------
I have an update of my own.
I started FireRed, hacked Houndour as my starter, and hacked Shuppet on Route 1, I also use a code to get the National Dex so they can evolve.
So far I've beaten Brock and that's it.
My Team right now:
Shuppet Lv.14
- Knock Off, Screech, Night Shade

Houndour Lv.13
- Leer, Ember, Howl, Smog

✎ BlueFoxCreations September 29th, 2014 3:48 AM

Update:.
A few things:
1) I cannot find White 2
2) The action replay has now broken I'd just entered the codes in too...
3) My computer is broken.
This pretty much means that I cannot do any congestion that require changing the games 'mechanics (hacking etc.) Plus, my computer is far from being fixed meaning I can't play an emulated games. I'm afraid I'm going to have to withdraw my form :`(

I planned that playthrough for some time even before this challenge appeared and since this challenge looks identical to what I'm gonna do in Alpha Sapphire, here is my signup:

Username: Kostucha
Version: Alpha Sapphire
Single/Ultimate?: Single for now, may do Ultimate later
Pokemon: Beedrill, Butterfree

Just got the game, can't wait to start :D

Edit:
Finished the challenge ^^
The beggining and Roxanne battle were quite harsh, since both Beedrill and Butterfree, when I got to her, stopped obeying me (as I couldn't get them there in eggs, had to hatch them earlier). I had to rely only on luck D:. After that I didn't have any bigger problems, however Steven's Armaldo was quite a big problem. Final team:

Beedrill the Maja lv. 75
-Thief
-Brick Break
-X-scissor
-Poison Jab

Butterfree the Emanuel lv. 77
-Shadow Ball
-Bug Buzz
-Sleep Powder
-Psychic

Question: Is PokeSweet Version allowed? I know you said only hacks like BlazeBlack but this game is basically Kanto, the storyline is only alightly different, but it's mostly nade up of Double battles so I thought this would be worth it. :3

Normally I'd say no, but I'll change the rules to make Full Hacks only not usuable in Ultimates.
So go ahead and use it since you're doing a single.

Have Fun.

I'm gonna go ahead and do Scizor and Pinsir in X, trading both in right before Viola.
And I'll trade in their Mega Stones as soon as I get the Mega Ring.

And I finally finished my Houndoom/Banette ultimate by completing Black 2.

DyingWillFlareon January 20th, 2015 2:46 PM

So I picked up the game today. Was busy with a different challenge
Long Update:
Spoiler:
Chose female character(Leaf) and named self Flare. Named my rival Lee.
Met my rivals Lee, who was sleepingI was not stalking him, Mark who looks like Brendan/Ruby and Katia who's overworld looks like May/Sapph but battle sprite says otherwise.
Hurray for earlier Map and Runnning Shoes!!
I chose Browniesaur and dubbed him Wafer. Cause wafers are sweet.
Easily beat Mark's Strawander and Katia's Squirtpie. Felt bad for Lee but beat his Popsichu nonetheless.
Caught a Meowffin in Route 1, named her Nilla. She's a Vanilla type and I have Wafer so why not. :D
Trained up and found all 5 guys in the forest.
Beat Team Sour Admin Jerk in Pudding City Museum.
Wafer evolved into Chocosaur after the battle with the Gym Trainer.
Beat Beryl with ease.
Restocked on Antidotes, Potions and 2 Escape Ropes(a must in Pewter so....).
Trained along the way to the battle contest near Candy Mines.
Nilla learned Pay Day and evolved. X3
A pokemon faints for what may be the first time during this run. I run quickly to the PokeCenter to heal Wafer.
We beat the battle contest and continue on to the Candy Mines where we learn of Team Sour's arrival.....

Short Update:
Name Flare
Rivals Lee, Mark, Katia
Team:
Wafer Level 24
Chocosaur M
Clear Body
Jolly
Cherry/Chocolate Type
Fudge Slap, Hunger Dust, Licor-Whip, Cherry Seed

Nilla Level 24
Cupcat F

Scratch, Growl, Bite, Pay Day

Badges: 1/8
Current Location: Candy Mines

I just found one of my (many) planning documents I have for challenges, and apparently I made quite a few duo-species layouts a while back, so I'm just gonna go ahead and sign-up.

Username: Buzz Buzz
Version: Fire Red
Single/Ultimate?: Single (for now)
Pokémon: Furret/Linoone

I'll be changing one of the starters to Sentret and then a code to get a Zigzagoon on the first route, if that's alright.

DyingWillFlareon March 8th, 2015 7:58 PM

I haven't played in while so unfortunately I don't remember much.
But I do remember:
Spoiler:
We hoofed it through the Candy Mines to the next town, beat the Gyn Leader there whom I forget what type they use, then we rand off towards the next town and Chocosaur evolved into Fudgisaur. Once there, we beat another Battle Contest, spammed Pay Day for training/money, and beat the Gym Leaders who use Banana and Lemon(I think) types. They may have been using Orange or maybe that was Town 2. .-.
Anyhow we also met Chocobun and Dark Chocobun on the boat. And many many trainer battlers against Mark, Katia, and Lee.

Versions: Fire Red, Heartgold, Omega Ruby, Platinum, Black 2, X
Single/Ultimate: ULTIMATE
Duo: Golduck/Mr. Mime

EDIT: Fire Red has been completed. Complete log below in spoliers.
Spoiler:

GYM LEADERS: (NOTE: Levels are AFTER gym battle)

Brock:
Team:
Psyduck/Gouda (Level 16)
Moves: Confusion, Scratch, Tail Whip, Disable
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 15)
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Substitute, Meditate
Commentary: Probably the hardest part of the game only because of the near impossible grinding. Made Psyduck my starter and caught Mr. Mime at level 3 on the first route. Grinding was difficult as Psyduck only had Scratch with awful defense, making it impossible to get the kill on any wild Pokemon. Mr. Mime also did not Confusion until level 5, so I was forced to do the swap-and-kill technique until then. After that, Mr. Mime could handle most anything at made grinding much easier for Psyduck.

Misty:
Team:
Psyduck/Gouda (Level 25)
Moves: Scratch, Confusion, Screech, Disable
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 25)
Moves: Confusion, Light Screen, Magical Leaf, Substitute
Commentary: Very easy gym fight. Set up Light Screen and Substitute on Staryu to prevent Water Pulse damage and confusion from such. Mr. Mime's Magical Leaf really made it easy.

Lt. Surge:
Team:
Psyduck/Gouda (Level 32)
Moves: Water Pulse, Confusion, Screech, Scratch
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 29)
Moves: Psybeam, Light Screen, Magical Leaf, Substitute
Commentary: Another easy gym sweep by Mr. Mime. I let Psyduck take care of the trainers around Vermillion and just let Mr. Mime handle the gym with Psybeam. Set up Substitute to prevent Thunder Wave from Raichu and easily mopped the Lt.

Erika:
Team:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 38)
Moves: Water Pulse, Screech, Scratch, Confusion
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 38)
Moves: Psybeam, Light Screen, Magical Leaf, Substitute
Commentary: Once again, another easy gym sweep by Mr. Mime. Everything in the gym, excluding Exeggcute, was one-shotted by Psybeam. I've started to notice how much higher the duo is than the rest of the trainers, and I hope it remains that way until the end. I would like some sort of challenge, but not so difficult that it is a pain to beat the E4.

Koga:
Team:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 47)
Moves: Surf, Confusion, Ice Beam, Scratch
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 45)
Moves: Psychic, Magical Leaf, Light Screen, Substitute
Commentary: Incredibly easy gym battle, complete Mr. Mime sweep without any damage taken.

Sabrina:
Team:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 53)
Moves: Surf, Confusion, Ice Beam, Brick Break
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 57)
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Magical Leaf, Safeguard
Commentary: Nothing too difficult, just hard finding something to take down Alakazam and his decent Special Stats since my duo consists of mainly special attackers. I blew all of my money on the Ice Beam and Thunderbolt TMs, so now the duo is finished with their final movesets. The rest of the game will just be sweeping.

Blaine:
Team:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 54)
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Confusion, Brick Break
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 57)
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Magical Leaf, Safeguard
Commentary: Swept the trainers with Mr. Mime and Blaine with Golduck. Just as easy as I expected.

Giovanni:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 56)
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Confusion, Brick Break
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (Level 60)
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Magical Leaf, Safeguard
Commentary: Swept the Nidos with Mr. Mime and the rest with Golduck. Another easy battle.

ELITE FOUR AND CHAMPION GARY:
Team after completion:
Golduck/Gouda (Level 62)
Mr. Mime/TheRiddler (62)

Lorelei: Swept with Mr. Mime and Thunderbolt. Few problems aside from tanky Lapras.

Bruno: Swept the two Onix with Golduck's Surf and the rest with Psychic from Mr. Mime.

Agatha: Swept with Mr. Mime's Psychic. He has surprisingly high special stats.

Lance: The main reason I put Ice Beam on Golduck. Somewhat difficult with the Outrage spamming Dragonite and the fact Ice Beam couldn't OHKO any of the actual dragons.

Gary: Mr. Mime dealt with Pidgeot, Venusaur, Alakazam, and Gyarados. Golduck dealt with Rhydon and Arcanine.

Since Fire Red has been completed, I am now moving on to HeartGold. I expect this to be the hardest game due to having to defeat Red with only two Pokemon, but thankfully this Gen is much kinder to Golduck. I will update this post with the log of the game and will notify when I complete it. Afterwards, I will move on to Omega Ruby.

EDIT: Sorry it took so long to to add the log. I wasted an ENTIRE day grinding for coins in the game corner to buy the TMs for Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. But alas, here is the mostly completed log of Heartgold.
EDIT 2: All 16 badges have been collected! All there is to do now is grind for Red! Expect an update later tonight for his defeat!
EDIT 3: Red has been beaten! The team ended up being Golduck Lv. 86 and Mr. Mime Lv. 88. Snorlax was the hardest by far of his team due to his massive bulk, and the rest were somewhat challenging but manageable with abusing their weaknesses and hail.

Spoiler:

Falkner:
Psyduck/Brie Lv. 11
Moves: Water Gun, Tail Whip, Scratch, Water Sport
Mr. Mime/ The Joker Lv. 11
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Guard Swap, Copycat
Commentary: Continuing with the tradition, I named Psyduck after a type of cheese and Mr. Mime after a Batman villain. Anyways, its been a while since I've last played a Johto game, but I'm starting to remember why I took the long hiatus from them. Not to bash on the game, overall it's great, it just isn't a favorite of mine.

Bugsy:
Psyduck/Brie Lv. 20
Moves: Water gun, scratch, Confusion, Tail Whip
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 20
Moves: Confusion, Double Slap, Barrier, Copycat
Commentary: Now I DEFINITELY remember why I do not like this game. The grinding is horrendous and took over an hour to get both of them to level 18. Thankfully the gyms can steer them in the right direction faster with their abundance of exp. which is why they both went up 2 levels. Also, this is the first time I have ever had one of the duo faint. After getting a Barrier up, Scyther critted Mr. Mime and got a OHKO with U-Turn leaving Psyduck alone for the entire battle.

Whitney:
Psyduck/Brie Lv. 24
Moves: Water Pulse, Ice Beam, Confusion, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 22
Moves: Confusion, Thunderbolt, Light Screen, Barrier
Commentary: Not too difficult. Mr. Mime's barrier comes in handy at stopping heavy hitters like Miltank this early on. NOTE: This is why the log was so late, as I spent hours trying to get Thunderbolt and Ice Beam for the two.

Morty:
Psyduck Lv. 28 Moves: Water Pulse, Ice Beam, Confusion, Headbutt
Mr. Mime Lv. 29 Moves: Psybeam, IB, LS, BARRIER

Chuck:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 34
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 32
Moves: Psybeam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Mr. Mime OP. A single Barrier wasn't even necessary as Mr. Mime OHKO'd both Primeape and Poliwrath. He is truly the sweeper of the duo.

Jasmine:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 35
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 32
Moves: Psybeam, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Golduck finally had his chance to clear a gym by himself. OHKO on everybody with Surf. I'd say he's the bulkier of the duo.

Pryce:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 41
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 40
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Not a challenge at all. Easily destroyed with Surf for Piloswine and Thunderbolt for everything else in the gym. I've also noticed how much easier and more balanced levels are in this game when it's just a team of two.

Clair:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 46
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 47
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Another Golduck sweep. Ice Beam really wrecked house and got insanely lucky on Kingdra. Freezed the first turn, second turn was bland, third turn I hit with Headbutt and got the flinch as Kingdra thawed out, froze with Ice Beam AGAIN as she healed, and got crit Ice Beam the next turn to bring home victory. Sometimes the RNGods just look down and smile.

E4/Champ:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 51
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 53
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary:
Will: Nothing too special. He got lucky with Confuse Ray hax at the beginning on Mr. Mime, but Mr. Mime pulled through and swept with Shadow Ball.
Koga: Almost embarrassing how easy he was. Psychic OHKO'd his entire team and took less than 5 minutes to sweep.
Bruno: A little higher than Will level difficulty. Confusion from Golduck didn't get the KO on Hitmonlee so some HP was lost, but a switch to Mr. Mime easy cleaned the rest of his team.
Clair: Probably the hardest out of the entire E4+Champion. I had nothing to stop Umbreon from setting up, so it took well over 10 minutes trying to hit it after 6 Double Teams. Eventually pulled through and got the sweep with Mr. Mime. Thankfully, the rest of her team either died to Psychic and Thunderbolt from Mr. Mime, or Surf from Golduck.
Lance: Pathetically easy. Thunderbolted Gyarados and swept with Ice Beam from Golduck. OHKO on everything.

POST E4: NOTE: They will be out of order from their actual positions, as I fought/fight them as I find their gym. For example, Lt. Surge is first because he's the first Kanto gym leader I fought, even though Brock would normally be the first gym leader of Kanto.

Lt. Surge:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 51
Moves: Confusion, Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 55
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: First gym leader of Kanto! Yay progress! I definitely was not expecting such high levels from his team and they took me off guard, but Mr. Mime came through with a nice sweep at the end.

Sabrina:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 51
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 57
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: I've finally found the TM for Psychic! Oddly enough, Mr. Psychic is now a fisherman in this game... Anyway, I feel bad for there being such a huge gap in levels between Golduck and Mr. Mime. Mr. Mime was the clear sweeper, but I had to switch to Golduck after Sabrina's Mr. Mime mimic'd my Shadow Ball and made me eat a crit one in return. Surfed his way right into victory.

Erika:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 57
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 57
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: I felt bad after seeing the huge gap between Golduck and Mr. Mime in levels, so I decided to grind Golduck up about 5 levels to be closer to Mr. Mime. Golduck got a surprising amount of KOs in there with Ice Beam and swept Erika's entire team by himself. Not bad.

Janine:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 59
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 57
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Somehow she managed to be even easier than Koga in the Elite Four. Golduck swept with Psychic and made her look like a fool. That's what you get for using two Ariados, Janine. They suck, just like you.

Misty:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 59
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 60
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Pretty much self explanatory with Mr. Mime's Thunderbolt. Swept her team and used Psychic on Quagsire.

Brock:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 62
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 60
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: This, too, was very easy with Golduck's Surf. He even managed to OHKO Omastar and Kabutops. Looks like he's a higher level now than Mr. Mime! Oh how the tables have turned!

Blaine:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 64
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 60
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Another perfect Golduck sweep. Surf was a OHKO on everybody.

Blue:
Golduck/Brie Lv. 65
Moves: Surf, Ice Beam, Headbutt, Psychic
Mr. Mime/The Joker Lv. 61
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Barrier
Commentary: Surprisingly more difficult than I expected. Really underestimated Exeggutor and thought I could KO with Ice Beam. NOPE. Leaf Storm was a OHKO and forced me to switch to Mr. Mime. Swept pretty easily afterwards aside from Arcanine.

woopermanstrikesback May 1st, 2015 7:15 PM

2/6 Gens are now complete in my Ultimate run! HG was likely the hardest mainly due to grinding, so I'm expecting some faster updates! I'll now start on Omega Ruby and trade over the duo as eggs, and the Exp. Share will be OFF for this run! I will update this post with the log, so get ready!

EDIT: The log is started! So far it's only Roxanne beaten due to a family emergency, but have no fear! More is coming!
EDIT 2: Sorry for the delay! Things have been pretty busy at school at whatnot, so progress will resume shortly. Now there's just a single badge left to get!
EDIT 3: Game complete! Steven has been beaten! Complete log below.
Spoiler:

Roxanne:
Team:
Psyduck/Gruyere Lv. 13
Moves: Water Gun, Confusion, Scratch, Tail Whip
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 13
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Power Swap, Copycat
Commentary: Once again, the duo is named after cheese and batman villains! I also find myself missing the automatic Running Shoes from Heart Gold... Anyway, the gym was a piece of cake with Psyduck. Water Gun one shotted Geodude and took 3 shots to KO Nosepass. Not stellar work, but it got the job done.

Brawly:
Team:
Psyduck/Gruyere Lv. 16
Moves: Water Gun, Confusion, Scratch, Tail Whip
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 15
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Psywave, Copycat
Commentary: I want the duo to be closer this time in levels after the huge gaps that occured in Heart Gold, so I let Psyduck beat the trainers and Brawly's Machop, and Mr. Mime OHKO'd Makuhita with Confusion. I'm so unfamiliar with Mr. Mime's level-up moveset in this game. Since when did he learn Psywave and Mimic at the same level? Oh well, definitely not looking forward to the Elite Four this game, especially since the first 2 could easily beat the duo. For now, I'll just focus on the next gym!

Wattson:
Team:
Psyduck/Gruyere Lv. 25
Moves: Water Gun, Confusion, Aerial Ace, Screech
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 24
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Charge Beam, Reflect
Commentary: EXTREMELY difficult battle, probably the hardest in the entire challenge so far. Thunderwave spam ruined any possible sweep with Mr. Mime and Wattson Volt Switched more than Elesa did. I also forgot that Mr. Mime became Fairy, so I had to deal with super effective Magnet Bombs from Magneton. Grueling battle that took 15 minutes to complete. Hopefully things look up from here.

Flannery:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 33
Moves: Water Pulse, Zen Headbutt, Aerial Ace, Screech
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 34
Moves: Psybeam, Barrier, Reflect, Charge Beam
Commentary: It's a long way from Wattson to Flannery what with the Team Magma antics. Easy sweep though with Golduck's Water Pulse. I feel like my movesets are almost identical for each gen and I don't want that, but then I realize that it's the most optimal sets for each. I'll decide later if I want to change it up.

Norman:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 35
Moves: Water Pulse, Zen Headbutt, Aerial Ace, Screech
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 36
Moves: Psybeam, Barrier, Charge Beam, Reflect
Commentary: It's convenient to have the rival take you right back to Petalburg. Truly made it a much easier journey. During the fight, I had to get a little creative since I had no SE moves to abuse (A.K.A. spam Barrier and Reflect then use Charge Beam for boosted S.A.). I was able to OHKO the last Slaking at +4 with Psybeam. Gonna take the sea route and grab Ice Beam for Golduck to deal with upcoming Dragons.

Winona:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 45
Moves: Surf, Zen Headbutt, Aerial Ace, Screech
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 44
Moves: Psychic, Barrier, Charge Beam, Dazzling Gleam
Commentary: As soon as I stepped on the Abandoned Ship, I realized that I couldn't get the TM for Ice Beam until after Tate and Liz, so there goes the idea of sweeping with Ice spam. Without even knowing it, I found a Fairy-Tale girl and got Dazzling Gleam for Mr. Mime. Yay exploration! Anyway, the Institute was easy and Mr. Mime swept Winona with Charge Beam on everything and Dazzling Gleam on Altaria. Might be awhile until the next update since there's so much story to do after this. Until then!

Tate and Liz:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 51
Moves: Surf, Zen Headbutt, Aerial Ace, Screech
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 51
Moves: Psychic, Shadow Ball, Protect, Dazzling Gleam
Commentary: Not gonna lie, I used a pretty cheap tactic for this battle. I replaced Charge Beam with Protect on Mr. Mime and used Surf with Golduck to take down Lunatone and Solrock. OHKO on Solrock but Lunate survived with about 1/4 of its life, so Shadow Balled it to death. Pretty easy win (because of how cheap I am).

Wallace:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 54
Moves: Surf, Zen Headbutt, Calm Mind, Ice Beam
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 54
Moves: Psychic, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, Dazzling Gleam
Commentary: Lots of moveset updates. Calm Mind and Ice Beam for Golduck (actually went back to the Sea Mauville to get in with the newly learned Dive). Thunderbolt for Mr. Mime rather than lackluster Charge Beam, but I will miss its Sp. Attack boost. Wallace was easy, Thunderbolt everything and Psychic Whiscash. Now I'm off to the Pokemon League and about to finish up the third game!

ELITE FOUR:
Sydney:
Commentary: Incredibly easy. Dazzling Gleam swept his entire team without a single problem.

Phoebe:
Commentary: Somewhat difficult. Dusclops/Dusknoir was bulky so they were able to survive a Shadow Ball and spammed Confuse Ray. Annoying, but manageable.

Glacia:
Commentary: Somewhat difficult as well. Glalie, while mediocre, was left with a sliver of health after Psychic from Mr. Mime and set up Light Screen, making matters tedious and annoying. Hardest of the bunch.

Drake:
Commentary: Very easy. 6 Calm Minds on Golduck and swept with Ice Beam.

Steven:
Team:
Golduck/Gruyere Lv. 61
Moves: Surf, Psychic, Calm Mind, Ice Beam
Mr. Mime/The Penguin Lv. 62
Moves: Psychic, Shadow Ball, Thunderbolt, Dazzling Gleam
Commentary: Average. Foolishly forgot to switch Mr. Mime for first so had to try and set up Calm Mind and sweep. Got as far as Metagross with Golduck, but Giga Impact from Mega Metagross creamed Golduck. Mr. Mime cleaned up with Shadow Ball and thus ended Omega Ruby.

ThatRandomGuy217 May 2nd, 2015 12:13 PM

So I got further and earned 4 badges, and I had no problems with any of them really...
Snorlax made a splashing impression after demolishing Misty... welp, at least I tried to be original.
Dratini than makes his first major appearance when he wrap spams My rival to death, and Lt. Surge follows shortly after that.
Made it through Rock Tunnel with no problems except PP.
Crushed Rival using the combination of Dragonair's Wrap + Thunderbolt and Snorlax's Bubblebeam against Sandshrew.
Erika was easily defeated by Dragonair's Wrap + Body Slam Combo.
And now I'm currently about to take on The Rocket Base to get that Silph Scope.

Current Team
Snorlax Level 36
-Psychic
-Ice Beam
-Body Slam
-Submission
Dragonair Level 36
-Wrap
-Body Slam
-Thunder Wave
-Thunderbolt
HM Slave
Charmander Level 10 (Cut)

Snorlax Stats:174 HP/102 Attack/64 Defense/37 Speed/68 Special
Dragonair Stats:109 HP/84 Attack/65 Defense/70 Speed/72 Special

And that's it but I'm gonna try to beat Yellow tonight and move on to Crystal. If I do at least get 8 Badges than I'll update again.

With Omega Ruby completed, I'm halfway through the challenge! I'm moving on to Platinum next, so I'll update this post with the log of the game.

EDIT: Log has been added!
EDIT 2: Sorry for the delay again! But once again, I needed to grind for money to purchase TMs!

Spoiler:

GYM LEADERS:

Roark:
Team:
Psyduck/Swiss Lv. 14
Moves: Water Gun, Scratch, Tail Whip, Water Sport
Mr. Mime/Two Face Lv. 12
Moves: Confusion, Guard Swap, Power Swap, Barrier
Commentary: Following tradition, the duo is once again named after cheese and a Batman villain! They're off to a fantastic start as well! Psyduck OHKO'd everybody in the gym, including Cranidos with a critical hit! Grinding was much better this time around, as Mr. Mime actually had Confusion. Hopefully this is a sign of good things to come!

Gardenia:
Psyduck/Swiss Lv. 23
Moves: Water Pulse, Confusion, Scratch, Water Sport
Mr. Mime/Two Face Lv. 22
Moves: Confusion, Barrier, Light Screen, Reflect
Commentary: Another easy sweep! Mr. Mime dominated with Confusion and beautifully confused Cherrim, the only real problem due to being plain Grass. This run is going really well so far!

Fantina:
Psyduck/Swiss Lv. 32
Moves: Water Pulse, Scratch, Screech, Confusion
Mr. Mime/Two Face Lv. 29
Moves: Psybeam, Substitute, Light Screen, Barrier
Commentary: The RNGods are really on my side this time! I set up Light Screen on Duskull to lighten the blows of Mismagius. Psyduck and Light Screen soaked up Magical Leaves and dealt back Water Pulses, even getting Confusion hax on her! Mismagius hit herself every single time, so it was no problem sweeping with Psyduck. Confusion easily took care of Haunter. Things are looking really good so far!

Maylene:
Team:
Golduck/Swiss Lv. 35
Moves: Water Pulse, Confusion, Scratch, Screech
Mr. Mime/Two FaceLv. 35
Moves: Psybeam, Substitute, Light Screen, Barrier
Commentary: Mr. Mime returns to the sweeping throne! He Psybeam'd his way to victory and OHKO'd both Machoke and Meditite. Lucario took 2 to go down, but it wasn't too bad. Overall, pretty easy battle!

Crasher Wake:
Team:
Golduck/Swiss Lv. 38
Moves: Confusion, Scratch, Water Pulse, Ice Beam
Mr. Mime/Two Face Lv. 41
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Light Screen, Barrier
Commentary: Mr. Mime sweeps again! Thunderbolt, while pricey and tedious to obtain, was definitely worth the wait! It carried him through the whole gym and took down all of Wake's team (Except Quagsire who went down to a Psychic).

Candace:
Team:
Golduck/Swiss Lv. 53
Moves: Surf, Scratch, Zen Headbutt, Ice Beam
Mr. Mime/Two Face Lv. 48
Moves: Psychic, Thunderbolt, Shadow Ball, Light Screen
Commentary: Didn't use Mr. Mime nearly as much as I thought I would have. Golduck sweeped most of the gym including all of Candace aside from Abomasnow. Mr. Mime got a lucky Psychic and lowered his Sp. Def, but took Wood Hammer and fainted. Golduck cleaned up with Ice Beam and got us the 7th badge!

I will be playing Pokemon Ruby with treecko's evolutionary line, and a Mawile. I have no hacking devices, but since Mawile is obtainable almost immediately after the first gym where I'd be using trecko only anyways, I feel this is a fair set up. On my most recent playthrough these two Pokemon worked pretty well together, so I'm going to see if the two of them can finish the whole game, despite neither one being particularly good. If I even make it to the elite four, I'd consider the playthrough a victory.

Will update as I progress.

ThatRandomGuy217 May 10th, 2015 2:08 PM

Sorry I have not posted in like a week or two. I've just been busy with life and other stuff, but now I'm ready to start posting again. I beat Yellow which gave me no trouble throughout the rest of the game except when trying to manage my pp at the elite four, as I forgot to grab my elixirs and ethers out my pc x_x but either way Yellow is complete. Now onto Crystal. Hopefully this won't be hard when it comes to Red...

Hey man, are we allowed to use roms such as perfect soul silver, emerald Z, Blaze Black 2, etc? They are base games that are a bit more harder due to more pokemon available and a revamped move/learnset?

Yes, you can use those in both Single and Ultimate, as long the region and story are still pretty much the same.
Full Hacks however (new region and story, like Light Platinum) can only be used in singles.

"If a Pokémon is traded to a Trainer who is not their Original Trainer, the Pokémon's affection will reset to 0 (enjoyment and fullness are unaffected). If the Pokémon is traded back to its Original Trainer, though, its affection will be restored to the value it had before the Original Trainer traded it away." - Bulbapedia

Given your X game isn't the OT (I assume), try trading and then trading back to see if that resets it.

NOTES:
Due to there only being no Dawn Stones obtainable before the E4, I will be hacking in a pair of them just before the 3rd gym, as all main evo stones (Leaf, Thunder, Water, Sun, Moon) are obtainable by then through the Underground. I will probably also hack in a Heart Scale or 3 due to Luvdisc not being obtainable Pre-E4, and imma need like 8 of the things tbh. Also this will be slow to start due to my Ultimate Monograss.

Should be good prep incase I try an ultimate solo of some sort (likely Gallade tbh)

Derp, I meant Alpha Sapphire.

And actually, no. I bred the eggs on my X version and then traded them to Alpha Sapphire and hatched them there so the OT is the same as AS. <.<;; So there's no way to reset it.

If one of these apply, you may hack at the beginning at level 5 or lower, or as an egg. (HAs and Egg Moves are allowed, as for IVs, idc)

I read that as you are clear to go, given it's what I just did lol

Uhhhh anyway... Ill just throw out a baseline with natures and nicknames and such, and to set a post format. leggo.

Diamond Duo-Species Challenge (0/8):

Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Change the starters using UPR to make Snover a starter
- Boot game, name myself Inigo and my rival Rugan
- Get a female Snover first try. Yus.
- Do obligatory pre-game crap, nickname her Buttercup.
- Check nature. Serious (Spd>Spd). Not the worst that could happen, I'll take it.
- Activate my AR and acquire Westley the male Ralts on like the 10th Ralts encounter (anyone seeing a pattern in the names?)
- Check his nature: Serious again lol. THIS IS FATE.
- Grab those Dawn Stones while I'm at it. Not using them until 3rd gym tho.
- Realize my AR is still on and I forgot to turn off the exp boost cheat. Oh well, it should even out after the first Rival battle.
- Beat up said Rival after the Jublife crap.
- Save the game.

Team @ Route 203:

Thanks!
I'll get started as soon as possible.
I'm about to update my other challenge.

Have the two eggs transferred - now doing about 8,000 runs around Aquacorde Town until the two eggs hatch
Edit - the eggs hatch, here's the proof from my 3DS XL

Zorua - it evolves at level 30, so for a short while it will have to be Zorua.
(bred male Zoroark with a female Zoroark)

Eevee - will make it evolve as soon as possible.
(bred male Espeon with female Sylveon)

The other 2 Pokeballs
one of them belongs to the starter, Fennekin
the second Heal Ball belongs to a Stunky from the other PokeCommunity challenge, mainly so I could transfer a Fire Stone

Both of them will go to the PC Box once I get to Santalune City, can't access the PC until then.

So far:
- Aquacorde Town, transferred eggs and hatched them
- Santalune Forest, battling the trainers
I"m following my tradition for all games battling all trainers (including those in gyms), not running away from wild Pokemon (I will attempt to catch the Pokemon I don't have), sort of document how my gym battles went.

ddrox13 December 21st, 2015 9:08 PM

Diamond Duo-Species Challenge (1/8):

Since I'm already hacking in my pokemon, there is no shame in hacking in a couple HM slaves and a few M-Balls to catch them with, is there? WELL TOO BAD!

Also, you are only doing it right when your AR codes have such names as "this is cheating" (Ralts encounter), "this is cheating more" (999x Dawn Stone), "Oh please..." (Shiny Giratina encounter) and ofc "GIMME DAT BOOTY" (Shiny Rayquaza encounter)

EDIT: I went ahead and did more things. Post updated.

Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Reach Oreburgh City
- Find Roark in the mine
- Go to gym, beat trainers, etc.
- VS Roark: Easy gym. Buttercup takes down Geodude and Onix in an Icy Wind apeice, and Cranidos decides to spam Pursuit, which allows me to 3hko it with more Icy Wind spam
- Realize that I will need HM slaves and look up how to get all 8 HMs onto 2 pokemon.
- Hack in a few M-Balls and a Shiny Rayquaza and Giratina to serve as HM slaves. HUEHUEHUE!!!
- Beat up the Galactic scum in Jubilife.
- Made my way up to Floroma Town and did the Galactic crap there.
- Mars' Purugly is absurdly powerful. I end up grinding all the way to Lv20 with no decent way to do so
- Oh yea, Westley evolves into Kirlia.
- VS Mars: On the 10th try, Buttercup is finally powerful enough to defeat Purugly with a barrage of Icy Winds and Headbutts
- Forest, etc.
- VS Gardenia: I C Y W I N D
- Facerush my way to Hearthome.
- VS Rival Rugan: EZ
- Blow past the Veilstone gym, and head down to Pastoria.
- Spend 6 years underground Heart Scale farming
- Blow a pair of Dawn Stones and a metric ton (2) of Scales to get ready for gyms
- Head back north to Vilestone
- VS Maylene: P S Y C H O C U T
- VS Wake: L E A F B L A D E
- Do the Celestic Town crap
- Head to Hearthome and call it a zzzzz

Next update!
Mozart, male Eevee, evolved to Flareon via the Fire Stone, I know that Zorua will take a whle (still has 18 levels to go through)

Santalune Forest & Route 22:
Not much from battling trainers and catching a few Pokemon.

Against Viola:
Zorua vs Surskit
Spoiler:
Milo comes out disguised as Flareon, so Surskit assumes it's a fire type so it starts off with 'Water Sport' had Milo give an intimidating stare with 'Leer'. Next up that water bug goes for 'Quick Attack' had Milo attack with 'Pursuit' - same thing done with second turn. That second pursuit was enough to make Surskit faint.

Flareon vs Vivillon
Spoiler:
Forgotten that Water Sport was still in effect so fire attacks where weakened. Vivillon started the battle off with 'Infestation' Mozart the Flareon attempts to take it down with 'Ember' wasn't too effective due to that Water Sport. Same thing with the second turn... finally before the third attacks Water Sport ended, this time, Vivillon attacked with 'Tackle' finally, 'Ember' from Mozart is enough for Vivillon to faint.

Team members:
Milo, the Zorua:

Mozart, the Flareon

Diamond Duo-Species Challenge (Complete!):

*Grabs easy button*

Important Events:
Spoiler:
- Wait I haven't updated since Fantina? Crap.
- VS Fantina: I won. Easily.
- VS Rival Rugan (Canalave City): See above.
- Train on Iron Island for as long as it takes to beat all the trainers
- VS Bryon: Buttercup took out Bronzor, and Westley took out the other two with a trio of Drain Punches to the mouth
- The galactic stuff happens
- VS Candice: D R A I N P U N C H
- More Galactic nonsence, Cyrus provides no resistance
- Mt. Cornet. Cyrus again provides no resistance.
- M-Ball Dialga
- VS Volkner: E A R T H Q U A K E
- VS Rival Rugan (League): Easy. I'm overlevelled.
- VS Aaron: Also easy.
- VS Bertha: Easier than the last two.
- VS Flint: Flint causes no problems until Infernape, who outspeeds and KOes Westley for the first time since the Jupiter/Mars double battle Buttercup gets off an Icy Wind, and a Revive allows Westley to grab the kill of the now slower Infernape.
- VS Lucian: Ok, now we got ourselves a problem. First of all, we are apparently no longer overlevelled, because Cynthia's G-Chomp is 16 levels higher than Rugan's Heracross. Subsequently, Alakazam outspeeds both members of my team. A few Revives and a lot of Shadow Balls later, I finally beat the man.
- VS CYNTHIA:
  • Buttercup v Spiritomb: Spiritomb decides not to go for any SE moves while Shadow Ball 2HKOes
  • Westley vs Gastrodon: L E A F B L A D E
  • Westley vs Roserade: P S Y C H O C U T
  • Buttercup (w/ support from Westley) v Garchomp: Garchomp easily takes out the damaged Buttercup. Westley comes in as death fodder to Max Revive her, and Icy Wind and Ice Beam take out the Lv66 dragon.
  • Westley (w/ support from Buttercup) v Lucario: Westley is still KOed, so Buttercup becomes the death fodder to revive Westley, who uses Close Combat
  • Westley v Milotic: L E A F B L A D E
- CHALLENGE COMPLETE!

FINAL TEAM:
http://pkmn.net/sprites/dp/big/478.png
Buttercup (Froslass) Lv58 @ Spell Tag
Female | Serious (Spd>Spd) | Snow Cloak
- Icy Wind
- Shadow Ball
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt

http://pkmn.net/sprites/dp/big/475.png
Westley (Gallade) Lv60 @ Fist Plate
Male | Serious (Spd>Spd) | Steadfast
- Leaf Blade
- Earthquake
- Psycho Cut
- Drain Punch

Ft. BAWK the Shiny Rayquaza (Rock Smash/Fly/Surf/Waterfall) and DAHKNEZZ the Shiny Giratina (The rest of them)

This was probably my best Diamond run ever. Gallade is so OP ingame with access to so many coverage moves upon evolution, and Froslass is always fun to use. I think this is a good time to either do a Gallade Solo Run or come up with my own challenge.

Haven't forgotten challenge - where I am so far: in Cyllage City Gym

Such a hard time with Grant. Both team members are so weak to Rock types - already lost 3 times to Grant.

This includes hacking/trading of all things, not just the two challenge Pokemon. I know it may not seem obvious, but given the fact it says "Hacking and Trading is forbidden, except in these cases" and HM slaves do not fall under these cases.
Same for the Dawn Stones, as you can get them pre-E4. There is one in Mt. Coronet, and as many as you want via Pickup.
If needed, I can add it to be more specific in the OP. There are a few other things I need to make specific anyways. :p

However, I was planning to add a "Rules-Free Mode", that's pretty much the same as the "Freeplay" mode in the monotype thread.
I can add your challenge that if you want?

I know that feeling. I've always had a hard time with him. {XD}

Anyways, I'll get around to updating this and my other challenges hopefully later today.
I haven't been around much because of my job, but since I've been getting more time off work, I may start doing challenges again. :p

Whatever... Not entirely sure how that matters... I never actually ended up using them to revive either member anyway.

The Dawn Stone in Mt. Cornet is only available in Platinum, not Diamond. There is another one pre-E4 in Plat as well. Pickup theoretically is an option, but to have even a 4% chance of finding one your pokemon needs to be the level that my main pokemon finished the game at. Also if I need more than 2 party slots on HM users, Pachirisu isn't the best HM slave.

1. I realise it's not a big deal, but rules are rules.

2. Sorry, my mistake, I haven't played D/P since Plat came out, so it's been a long time. Also, bulbapedia has it wrong (I checked other sources as well to confirm), so it's not entirely on me, lol.
And I do agree that pickup at that point is kind of stupid, so I guess the Dawn Stone thing can have a pass.

3. All right, I'll add it when I update the thread later.

Normally, I wouldn't have a problem with Grant, I would always have something to counter rock types - with the challenge, don't have much against Tyrunt. Looking back at your own challenge team, I can see how tough Grant must have been.

It's Time!!
Update Time!!
So far in the journey:
Spoiler:

In Lumiose City, first trip

Cyllage City

I lost 3 times to Grant, before getting lucky enough to win, this is how the gym battle, correction, gym battles went:

Round 1 - Lost
Spoiler:

Flareon vs Amaura
Mozart (the Flareon) managed to get the battle started with 'Fire Fang', that Amaura had to use 'Thunder Wave'. Next up Amaura moved faster and used 'Aurora Beam' and it turned horrible for Mozart unable to move due to Paralysis. Amaura went for another 'Aurora Beam' once again Mozart couldn't move. I ended up giving Mozart a Paralysis Heal while Amaura uses 'Take Down', had Mozart use 'Bite' didn't do much, Amaura had to use the attack of my worst nightmare 'Rock Tomb', Mozart barely survived with 4 HP. I gave Mozart a Super Potion, Amaura had to use 'Thunder Wave' once more. Amaura moved faster and used Take Down', Mozart was lucky enough to land a critical hit with 'Fire Fang' and Amaura faints.

Zorua vs Tyrunt
Milo (the Zorua) starts off with 'Hone Claws' to increase his Attack and Accuracy, but Tyrunt's attack of 'Rock Tomb' lands a critical and almost faints Milo in one hit, leaves him with only 2 HP. Gave Milo a Super Potion and Tyrunt decides to 'Stomp' on Milo, hoped that Milo could attack first, sadly didn't happen, Tyrunt attacked with 'Rock Tomb' and faints Milo
Flareon vs Tyrunt
Poor Mozart didn't even get a chance to attack, one super effective 'Rock Tomb' from Tyrunt is more than enough to faint Mozart

Round 2 - Lost
Spoiler:

Flareon vs Amura
Well, here I go again, can't get passed Geosenge Town without the badge. Mozart starts with 'Fire Fang' once again Amaura uses 'Thunder Wave'. So far looking the same as the previous battle, Amaura used 'Aurora Beam' and Mozart can't move due to paralysis. Amaura used 'Take Down' this time Mozart managed to move and attacked with 'Ember' lucky for Mozart Amaura gets a burn. Next up Mozart can't move due to paralysis while Grant uses a Super Potion. Mozart managed to attack with 'Fire Fang' which lands a critical hit and even better Amura flinched and is still burned, one more 'Fire Fang' caused Amaura to faint.

Zorua vs Tyrunt
Milo (the Zorua) comes in once more, ready to battle and attacks first with 'Feint Attack' the Tyrunt attacked with 'Rock Tomb' not so much health taken off this time, to my worst horror, 'Stomp' from Tyrunt lands a cirital and poor Milo faints.
Flareon vs Tyrunt
Mozart comes in once again, this time it managed to attack first with 'Fire Fang', I knew it wouldn't do much as Mozart didn't have much against Tyrunt, luckily it dodged Tyrunt's 'Rock Tomb', hoped for a crit with another 'Fire Fang' no luck, this time it couldn't dodge the second 'Rock Tomb' and Mozart faints.

Round 3 - Lost
Spoiler:

Flareon vs Amaura
For the third time, Mozart the male Flareon battles against Amaura, as you might guess starts off the same was as before, Mozart attacks with 'Fire Fang' and Amaura used 'Thunder Wave'. Mozart is unable to move due to paralysis while Amaura used its 'Aurora Beam'. Next turn Amura managed to move first with another 'Aurora Beam' once again Mozart unable to move from paralysis, Amura decides to 'Take Down' Mozart while my fire fox used 'Fire Fan' enough to faint Amaura.

Zorua vs Tyrunt
Not Tyrunt again!! This Pokemon is giving me nightmares.
Milo the male Zorua starts off with 'Hone Claws' but Tyrunt had to land a critical hit with it's 'Rock Tomb' almost faints Milo leaving him with only 6 HP. I used a Super Potion on Milo, while that Tyrunt unluckily for me lands another critical hit with 'Stomp' took off half of Milo's health, I hoped to attack first instead Tyrunt went and used 'Rock Tomb' caused Milo to faint.
Flareon vs Tyrunt
This battle went horrible again for Mozart, unluckily for the 3rd time in one match, Tyrunt lands another critical hit with 'Rock Tomb' being super effective made Mozart faint

after the 3rd loss, decided to head up to Route 10 and do some training. At the time I encountered Grant, Milo was at level 24 and Mozart at level 25. Both of Grant's Poikemon are at level 25, both have Rock type, which both my team members are weak to, especially Mozart.
After the training both Mozart and Milo made it to level 27

Round 4 - somehow managed to win
Spoiler:

Grant must be thinking. 'You again, I hope your ready for another loss'
Flareon vs Amaura
Once again, Mozart the male Flareon, starts it off with 'Fire Fang' and to our luck it burned Amaura, it strikes back with 'Thunder Wave' this time I used Paralysis Heal and Amaura used it's 'Take Down'. I decided to try something new, I brought in Milo
Zorua vs Amaura
Amaura with low health due to it's burn, Grant used a Super Potion, had Milo use 'Hone Claws' once again, Amaura used 'Thunder Wave'. On the next turn Amaura used 'Aurora Beam' to my unlucky moment Milo couldn't move due to paralysis. I ended up using a Paralysis Heal, Amaura's next 'Aurora Beam' lands a critical hit so I had no choice but to use a Super Potion, thanks to it's burn, it slowly takes away Amaura's health. Next up it moved first with another 'Aurora Beam' luckily one 'Feint Attack' from Milo leaves Amaura with low health and the burn faints it

Zorua vs Tyrunt
Tyrunt! We meet once again!
Milo starts off with 'Feint Attack' the next attack from Tyrunt to my horror lands a critical hit with 'Rock Tomb' went for another Super Poriton, Tyrunt attempts to 'Bite' down on Milo, good thin that Milo is dark type, so it didn't do much. Next up Tyrunt moves first with 'Stomp' Milo tries it's best with 'Feint Attack' and to our surprise, it lands a critical hit
To our joyous surprise it was barely enough for Tyrunt to faint!!

Finally a big sigh of relieve!!
Team info:

Mozart the Flareon

Milo the Zorua - only 2 levels away from evolving to Zoroark

Firox January 10th, 2016 12:53 PM

Don't like to double post, been a few days no posts
Here's my next update

Along this journey:
Spoiler:

Geosenge Town
- encountered Team Flare again
- Milo evolves to Zoroark
- encountered Lucario once more, challenged Korrina too

Reflection Cave
- battled trainers

Shalour City
- explored Tower of Mastery
- battled Calem
- obtained Mega Ring, which won't be useful for me
- obtained the Rumble Badge from Korrina

Battle vs Calem:
Spoiler:

Zoroark vs Meowstic (male)
Milo the Zoroark tried to get started but forgot that Meowstic learns 'Fake Out' so Milo couldn't move. Next up Milo starts off with 'Hone Claws' to raise attack and accuracy while the cute psychic feline uses a Fairy move 'Disarming Voice' but just one 'Night Slash' from Milo is enough for the cute feline to faint.

Flareon vs Absol
Mozart, the Flareon gets the match going with 'Fire Fang' Absol attacks with 'Slash'. Next up a 'Fire Spin' is more than enough for Absol to faint

Zoroark vs Frogadier
Next up Milo returns for another battle, no offense to it's fans will battle my most hated Pokemon evolution, so this battle will be fun for me.
Unfortunattely that ugly frog gets started with 'Quick Attack', Milo attacked with 'Night Slash', luckily on the next turn, it was able to attack first with one 'Feint Attack' faints the frog

Gym Battle against Korrina:
Being a gym battle against a Fighting type gym leader, Milo would be a big disadvantage, but the way I am, I always let all Pokemon battle. It was mainly Mozart that battled.
Spoiler:

Flareon vs Mienfoo
Mozart gets the match started against my former 1st favorite Pokemon, that super cute fighting weasel.
Mienfoo does get the match started off with 'Fake Out' made Mozart unable to move. Once Mozart could move it attacked with 'Fire Spin' while the cute weasel attacked with 'Power-Up Punch' increasing it's attack too. Mozart bites down with 'Fire Fang' caused the poor fighting weasel to faint, sorry 'bout that, still love you.

Flareon vs Machoke
I was expecting Hawlucha to come in next, looks like Machoke will be the next victim. Mozart starts off with 'Fire Fang' to my horror Machoke knows a super effective move 'Rock Tomb' and I tought it was going to be the end of Mozart, it managed to survive with only 4 HP, I risk and had Mozart used 'Fire Fang' against a half health Machoke, luckily it was a crit and was enough for Machoke to faint.

Zoroark vs Hawlucha

I promised myself, that if I have 2 or more Pokemon per team, at least more than 1 Pokemon would battle, so I gave Milo the chance, knowing very well it would be a huge disadvantage. Good Luck Milo! Wasn't expecting the ending.
Milo starts off with 'Hone Claws' and Hawlucha did the same 'Hone Claws'. time to attack, 'Nigh Slash' from Milo, once again another 'Hone Claws' from Hawlucha. I know Dark attacks won't do much on Hawlucha all Milo knows for now are dark-type moves, Milo attempts 'Foul Play' which leaves Hawlucha with low health, it attacked with 'Flying Press' as expected, Milo faints - to my good luck, thanks for the Rocky Helmet, Hawlucha faints too

Team Info:
Mozart the Flareon

Milo the Zoroark

Sorry if it's been such a long time
Kind of distracted with other teams and forums.

Just took down Ramos

Before the gym challenged by Calem

Spoiler:
Zoroark vs Meowstic (male)
Milo gets off started with Hone Claws, hope that Meowstic would use a different move as Milo came out disguised as Flareon - instead psychic feline used 'Disarming Voice', taking off about 1/3rd of Milo's health - one single 'Night Slash' is enough to make Meowstic faint

Flareon vs Absol
Mozart next up, starts off with 'Lava Plume' taking out 2/rds of Absol's health away, it does 'Bite' down on Mozart, one 'Fire Fang' makes Absol Faint

Zoroark vs Frogadier
Milo takes on Frogadier as the last battle, 'Night Slash' takes only about 2/3rd of it's health away, it did attack with 'Water Pulse'. Next up the ugly frog thing starts off with 'Quick Attack' one final 'Night Slash' is enough for Milo to win

After that battle with Calem, it was time to take on Ramos.
Spoiler:

Zoroark vs Jumpluff
Milo starts off with the gym battle - disguised as Flareon due to Illusion, 'Hone Claws' once more, while Jumpluff did managed to attack with 'Acrobatics' making Zoroark reveal itself, one 'Night Slash' and Jumpluff faints

Flareon vs Gogoat
Mozart takes care of the next two Pokemon - Gogoat is the first to go down.
Lava Plume' gets the match started, it almost fainted Gogoat in one hit, did survive, and it used 'Bulldoze' taking off 2/3rds of Mozart's health away.
For the next 2 turns it was the same cycle
Ramos uses a Hyper Potion on Gogoat, while Mozart uses 'Lava Plume'
On the 3rd and final turn, one 'Fire Fang' leaves Gogoat at very low health but it also got burned, and Gogoat faints from the burning

Flareon vs Weepinbell
Not much to say about Weepinbell though, it fainted quickly by one 'Fire Fang' from Mozart.

No new move sets
Mozart the Flaroen is at level 40
Milo the Zoroark is at level 39

4 badges now.
Next up is Clemont

Just saying, it breaks the rules to do so, as it says any and all hacking/trading is forbidden except for a few exceptions, which this does not apply to one of said exceptions.

I think it's Route 9 where the fire stone is found - that route that leads to Glittering Cave
Didn't trade in anything

But you said transfer in the post I quoted, and your update after that, here, says you evolved Eevee before Viola, which isn't possible without trading.

Ahri March 4th, 2016 1:12 AM

Slight update:

Spoiler:
I grabbed a Vulpix from my Pokemon Bank and an Eevee from my Omega Ruby. Eevee was japanese and level 1, Vulpix was level 5 and apparently obtained via some Wonder trade ages ago. Anyways.... went through Santalune Forest using my starter, Fennekin, avoiding as many trainers as I could. Reached Santalune, boxed Fennekin in exchange for Vulpix and Eevee and backtracked to the forest. Then I realised I got mixed up and that Santalune Forest has no Moss Rock so I transfered the Eevee back to Omega Ruby and evolved it into Leafeon. Transfered it back and battled all the trainers I had missed.

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/0/08/Spr_6x_037_s.png
Vulpix
Level 7 ~ Female ~ Flash Fire ~ Adamant
Ember ~ Tail Whip ~ Roar

http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/b/b0/Spr_6x_470.png
Leafeon
Level 8 ~ Male ~ Leaf Guard ~ Adamant
Sand Attack ~ Tackle ~ Tail Whip ~ Natural Gift

Fun fact: My Eevee had Pokerus and now all the Pokemon I own on this save have it.

Whether you traded it in as an Eevee or a Flareon, it's still against the rules, since you can get a Fire Stone in-game.

Same as the situation with Poke Fox, since you can evolve Eevee to Leafeon legitimately in-game pre-E4, you broke a rule.
The moss rock is on Route 20. I know it's late, but it's still pre-E4 and available during the game.

So I'll move your guys' challenges to the rule-free section later.
And I added this to the OP because this seems to be something that's unclear.

Ah, sorry about that. It was indeed unclear. Feel free to scrap my challenge. I'll start over with a different choice of pokemon since I never got that far to begin with. Just need to look at what's available and what isn't and maybe just do a bunch of wonder trades to add some more pokemon to my bank. Was actually considering doing a run using Absol and some other pokemon that doesn't evolve and now you got me the reason to do it xD

I'm signing up for this, Duo-Species is one of my favorite challenges!

(However, as a rules clarification, one of my Pokemon is unavailable before the 1st badge, and the other is not in the regional Pokedex, so am I allowed to hack both of them in or just the one? And as far as Moon Stones go, they're available in the Underground and via Pickup, so I can hack one in as soon as I could access the underground right? Because they are otherwise unobtainable in Diamond.)

For all it's worth, I'm playing Platinum on my 3DS atm and I can access the Underground just fine even without any sort of wi-fi. So I'm guessing you'll be spending quite some time down there looking for that moon stone since it IS obtainable in your game. Just my 2 cents.

You can hack in both Pokemon, the only requirement is that they're legal.

But for the Moon Stone. As Ahri said, it's available in-game, so no, you can't hack it in.

Ok, quick update because I'm really into challenges and such:

Spoiler:

Highlights:
Buneary evolving to a Lopunny from an Ace Trainer on Route 216.
After catching 14 Cleffa in Mt. Coronet, I FINALLY got a Moon Stone to evolve Nidorina.

Currently grinding to battle the Elite 4.

Current Team:
Spoiler:

http://pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/nidoqueen.gif
Stella the ♀ Nidoqueen | Lv. 55 | Rash | @Amulet Coin
Moves:
Surf
Earth Power
Shadow Claw
Sludge Bomb

Comments: I tried to make Stella a good mixed attacker, but all of the good TMs were special, so I'm thankful for all the coverage. She's definitely done really well, but I'm never disappointed in royalty.

http://pokestadium.com/sprites/xy/lopunny.gif
Bambino the ♂ Lopunny | Lv. 53 | Serious | @Soothe Bell
Moves:
Dizzy Punch
Ice Beam
Strength
Jump Kick

Comments: I didn't really know what to expect from Bambino, because I've never used a Lopunny before, and let me tell you something. The fact that he started with a base happiness of 0 was AWFUL. He didn't evolve until level 43. I was so frustrated. Despite that, Bambino is an AMAZING physical attacker and makes up for all of the problems Stella ever had. He has not disappointed me yet.

Just sayin', wouldn't it have been easier to just to dig it up from the underground? It's also free, since you don't have to use any items like Pokeballs, and you can make some good money by selling the other stuff you dig up, like star pieces, rare bones, etc.

Omega Ruby: 3/8
I'm in Fallarbor Town, and my team is:
http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/028.pngLv.26 @Quick Claw
- Aerial Ace, Rollout, Magnitude, Fury Cutter

http://www.serebii.net/pokedex-xy/icon/331.pngLv.28 @None

Probably would have lol, but Moon Stones are just as rare in the Underground as they are to be found on wild Cleffa, plus I had the amulet coin since before Hearthome City so I wasn't too worried about money.

I had a question regarding a trading situation. In Pokemon Gold the only legitimate way to obtain the Psych Up TM is to trade an Abra or Kadabra from Red/Blue into Gold. The Abra or Kadabra will be holding the Psych Up TM.

I was thinking of trying out a strategy involving Swagger and Psych Up on Wigglytuff, but the only legitimate way to teach Wigglytuff Psych Up in Generation II involves a trade. I feel like this is an unusual enough situation where it should be okay, since it's the only way you're capable of getting that TM. Unlike other item trades where you'd be giving yourself an early unfair advantage, this is the intended way to get this item, and it's even locked off from you until the Time Capsule event in Ecruteak. That gives the Psych Up TM a specific time and location in the game where you can obtain it, just like any other item in the game.

Would I be allowed to trade an Abra from Red to get the Psych Up TM?

thenickel09 September 16th, 2016 6:30 AM

Update: I'm a winner!
After tons of grinding (and some move reassignments) the Sinnoh Elite Four has been vanquished!

Final Team:
Spoiler:

http://media.pldh.net/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/031.gif
Stella the ♀ Nidoqueen | Lv. 65 | Rash | @Amulet Coin
Moves:
Surf
Earthquake
Shadow Claw
Sludge Bomb

Comments: MVP. She single-handedly swept a lot of the E4 and I was amazed.

http://media.pldh.net/pokemon/gen6/xy-animated/428.gif
Bambino the ♂ Lopunny | Lv. 61 | Serious | @Soothe Bell
Moves:
Return
Ice Beam
Strength
Grass Knot

Comments: So Bambino ended up faltering in the very end, his moveset and stats didn't measure up with Stella, although he was very helpful in dispatching a few of Lucian's Pokemon (lookin at u Bronzong).

Also, if its possible, can I play through all of HG or SS and consider the Kanto portion of the game as acceptable for the ultimate challenge? If that's the case then I'm gonna turn this into an ultimate, but otherwise I'm going to be setting up several single challenges then. (with Lopunny and Nidoqueen) (SoulSilver, Omega Ruby, Black, Y)

No, if you want to do a ultimate challenge, you will need RBY/FRLG.
(If you didn't know already, you can get RBY on 3DS VC)

Hi, I'm interested in doing an ultimate challenge :) but before, I want to check some things :

- Using two un-evolved Pokemon to finish all games without any evolution (not even Mega) is okay right ?
- Doing Fire Red/Heart Gold/Emerald/Platinum/White/White2 and Y is good ?
- May I hack them both at the start of the game the same level as a starter in game ?
- If both faint, Game Over ?

Also, I would like to know what I have to do to prove I've done these games legitimately ? That's it, thanks in avance for answering me :)

1. Yes.
2. Yes, any ultimate counts as long as play through all 6 regions at least once.
3. Yes, but make sure they're as legal as possible (i.e. no illegal abilities/moves/stats, etc.).
4. No, if both of your Pokemon faint, you just continue as if you're playing the game normally.

As for proof, it's not needed really, as someone has said recently, there's no gain in lying about it. :)
If you really want to include actual proof, just pictures is enough.

Thanks again for the answer, that's all I needed to know, but as for the fourth condition, it is self imposed :) Anyway, I'll do the Solo-Run ultimate challenge then this one :)
