Favorite Pokémon Tournament 2014 - Ground

http://i.imgur.com/0CDpySe.png

Welcome to the second annual Favorite Pokémon Tournament here in the Pokémon Polls board, where our goal is to determine the favorite Pokémon of the users here at the PokéCommunity! This will be a tournament that lasts several months, where we'll pit almost all the Pokémon from different types together to determine a winner. After we know the winner of each type, we'll add all of those Pokémon to a final poll, where the winner(s) will be crowned champion, and be known as PokéCommunity's favorite Pokémon!

If you haven't had the opportunity, please read the Rules/FAQ to find out more about the tournament:

Spoiler:
  • Every week, two new polls will be stickied at the top of the Pokémon Polls board. Each thread will include a different elemental type, and the list of Pokémon to vote from.
  • You aren’t required to pick just one Pokémon- you can vote for as many as you like to ensure your favorites get through. The Pokémon with the most votes at the end of the week will face off against the other winning Pokémon in a final poll to crown the champion!
  • In order to preserve space, we’ve grouped all of the applicable evolutions in a Pokémon family together. Some Pokémon (ex.: the Nidoran families) may be exempt from this rule.
  • For every poll, at least one runner-up will be added to a wildcard poll before the finale. This will give these Pokémon a shot at redemption, and one more opportunity to win the tournament.
  • In the event of a tie at the end of the week, Brendino will have the tie-breaking vote. Pokémon tied for first that aren't selected will be immediately entered into one of the wildcard polls.
  • Furthermore, members who vote and post for a majority of weeks during the tournament will receive an emblem depicting the winning Pokémon!
  • If there are any questions that you need answered, feel free to leave a comment in this thread or send a VM to Brendino to get it sorted out.

NOTE: Because of the limited number of poll spaces, not all eligible Pokémon have been included. If you want to vote for an unlisted Ground-type, check the "Other Pokémon" option represented by a (?), and leave a post with your vote.

Now that you know what the tournament is all about, what are you waiting for? Polls will remain open until October 11th, so get voting!

I voted for Dugtrio, Marowak, Rhydon, Rhyperior, Gliscor, Steelix, Swampert, Flygon, Garchomp, Krookodile, and Excadrill. I love their designs, and how helpful they can be in battle.

Aside from them, I also happen to like Nidoking, Quagsire, Gastrodon, Seismitoad, and Diggersby.

Nah October 4th, 2014 5:52 AM

My votes for this one went to Groudon, Garchomp, Krookodile, and then I selected Other for Gastrodon.

I think Krookodile is one of the coolest Ground types in existence, and its pretty good too. I like Garchomp because of its design, it's part Dragon, and y'all know how good it is in a fight. Groudon's cool as well, and it's Primal form just makes it better.

Gastrodon I find rather amusing....dat noise it makes. Not to mention that it seems to confuse the hell out of people who've never seen one before.:
-Gastrodon used Scald!
-Must be a water type, use Thunderbolt!
-Gastrodon is not impressed
-Ground type then? Use Hydro Pump!
-Gastrodon slurps that **** up with Storm Drain.
-Gastrodon continues to wreck opponent before they figure out it's Water/Ground w/Storm Drain.
^That has legit happened to me a few times on Battle Spot.

Logical Cabbage October 4th, 2014 9:04 AM

My 'other' vote is for Gastrodon because it is awesome! I prefer the west form over east though. But Storm Drain is awesome! Say no to water and electricity! It takes about 5 grass knots to send my Gastrodon to the red zone! I love it, I love it, I love it! Whoop whoop to Gastrodon!

Garchomp because Gible was so cute! And because Garchomp is good in speed and attack! Don't get me started on the mega form!

Tranpinch stages gets my vote cause I love them! They're terribly awesome!

The Mudkip stage for being badass and cute! Mega Swampert is cool!

Groudon can't be left out at all, can't he? He'll kill me in his Primal Form.

Bellsprout October 4th, 2014 9:15 AM

I'm going the boring route and listing because I've already explained most of these.

Sandslash line, Steelix line, Both Nido lines, Golurk line

imo sandslash is so forgotten, but I love that little thing so much!!

Brendino October 4th, 2014 1:54 PM

Just a heads up- since 3 of the 10 votes so far have been for Gastrodon, it has now been added to the main poll, rather than staying clumped with the Other Pokémon category. Happy voting everyone!

Entermaid October 4th, 2014 2:41 PM

I also am voting Gastrodon! I never knew others love the Gastro too. I am hoping they have a Gastrodon in ORAS with a new variation(s) based on the original beta sprite that was originally going to be released in the original Ruby/Sapphire.

Star shape spikes!

My votes are: Gastrodon, Camerupt, Flygon, Garchomp, Piloswine

Honorable Mentions: Sandslash, Marowak, and Nidos.

Harmonious Fusion October 5th, 2014 9:27 AM

For this round, I've chosen Marowak, Swampert, Flygon, Groudon, Nidoking, and Torterra.

Ground is another one of those types where I like its attacks better than its Pokemon.

Pendraflare October 5th, 2014 7:31 PM

Of the ones present, I picked four - Rhyperior, Mamoswine, Krookodile and Golurk.

Rhyperior is one that has come a good way from Rhydon, which I always liked even in the days of RBY. Solid Rock and a ton of attacks make it pretty enjoyable to use.

Mamoswine i've discussed before, in the Ice favorites thread. I don't think I need to discuss it again.

Krookodile is another cool one from BW, despite having a grueling six weaknesses it comes with a good Attack stat backing it and two very helpful abilities. I've used it in the Unova games (BW especially) before and it almost always does me good.

Finally, Golurk, another one from Generation V that I came to like. It's really cool and has interesting typing, and the tutors from B2W2 made it more enjoyable with Iron Fist. Good stuff.

There are plenty of Ground-types that I like, I wanted to mention Gliscor but that thing always annoys me competitively which kept me from doing so. >_>

Groc October 5th, 2014 9:17 PM

Trapinch, Groudon, Sandile, and Golett.

Trapinch is a mean little bugger with a nasty bite. And despite clearly being bugs, his evolutions are Dragon type. He's proof that looks can be deceiving, and Flygon is all-around awesome.

Groudon is one of my favorite Legendaries. A massive dinosaur that occasionally sleeps in volcanoes? He wakes up to do cause devastation and do battle with other giant monsters? He's Godzilla!

Sandile gets my vote because he's a crocodile. Crocodiles are cool. Also, he's got shades. Gotta love the shades.

I've always liked robots, and golems are basically the magical equivalent of robots. Plus, with Iron Fist, Golett and his even cooler evolution Golurk are masters of punching. Who doesn't dig robots punching things?

Hikamaru October 5th, 2014 11:22 PM

The Ground Pokemon who shook me enough to vote them:

Sandshrew line: My fave 1st Gen Ground-types, with fairly good stats on the board. Also it's really adorable and I do love my cute Pokemon.

Drilbur line: I'm totally in love with these moles, as they are my fave 5th Gen Ground-types. Excadrill is a powerful physical attacker but don't let its small size fool you, it's something to be feared.

Swinub line: A pig that becomes a giant mammoth? Yes please. Ice/Ground is also a nice type combination that covers a lot of stuff offensively so no wonder it's prominent competitively.

Sandile line: Ground/Dark is another interesting combination type-wise, and they are shown to make their work thanks to strong physical moves combined with really good abilities.

Marshtomp / Swampert: Mudkip line is my fave Hoenn starter and unlike most Water-types, it's actually a good choice to fight Electric-types, due to the weakness it has as a Mudkip becoming an immunity as it evolves. Definitely using my beloved Mudkip again in OR/AS!

Synerjee October 6th, 2014 12:40 AM

I chose Garchomp, Flygon, Krookodile, Excadrill, Groudon, Gliscor, Swampert, and Mamoswine. All of them are full of power, decent speeds and great designs. Used quite a few of them in-game and they have never disappointed me.

Sabrewulf238 October 6th, 2014 3:25 AM

Voted ? for Numel and Camerupt.

Mawa October 6th, 2014 8:46 AM

I love the ground type!!!

Well... Marowak is my favorite pokemon, followed by Rhydon, and when I was younger I loves Sandslash!! I am a fan of steelix too since a few years.

I love Krookodile, Gliscar and Mamoswine.

Cherrim October 6th, 2014 11:47 AM

Stunfisk is my favourite ground type Pokémon. I love electric types, so I'm gonna be predisposed to liking an electric/ground matchup and this was no exception. It's also a fish!! My favourite kind of animal! I love how flat it is and how derpy it looks, and when it's shiny, it uses the same colour blue that all my other favourite shinies seem to use.

I have to admit, I don't think I've ever actually used a Stunfisk though. :(

Vinny Vidi Vici October 6th, 2014 12:54 PM

I really like a lot of ground types, but the standout to me is Gastrodon, the pink one in particular. I had one in my first playthrough of Diamond and I've loved it ever since. It's pretty remarkable that Gamefreak took something as undesirable as a sea slug and turned it into an incredibly cute pokemon in Shellos and Gastrodon, but they did it, and I think that's why I like it all the more. It's an underdog. Who would ever want the slug pokemon on their team? Well those who do opt for the slug are rewarded as while not the strongest offensively, Gastrodon can take hits for days. With access to Acid Armour (or Curse or even Stockpile) and Recover, the little slug has huge staying power, so unless you have a grass attack, you're not disposing of Gastrodon easily.

Golurks Were Meant to Fly October 6th, 2014 1:42 PM

Let's be real golurk is the best. It's a robot that can fly. If you ever watched the Iron Giant as a child you best be voting for Golurk. The feels that came from that movie. And golurk is a great pokemon version of the Iron Giant. It's also a very unique ground type in terms of design and typing. It has a good color scheem and its pre-evo is absolutely adorable.

Represent.

Candy October 6th, 2014 5:30 PM

My vote goes to Flygon, Garchomp, Stunfisk and apparently I forgot to vote for it: Excadrill.

Ground types aren't my personal favorite.

Flushed October 6th, 2014 8:41 PM

At the time of release wasn't so crazy about these guys, but the Baltoy and Golett line grew on me, especially Claydol and Golurk. They're not the most powerful, but Claydol has a cool design and Golurk's typing is pretty sick.

Proteun October 7th, 2014 6:29 AM

STUNFISK.

...

If any of you guys are watching YouTubers NateAndDookie, you'll know what I mean. Bounce.

Hiatus October 7th, 2014 6:03 PM

There's plenty of ground-types that I like, but on top of the list would be Garchomp. In terms of design, it looks a lot fierce, which, I suppose, is what they were aiming for (and were quite successful at). Competitive-wise, although it does have four-times weakness against ice (thanks to the Pokémon also being dragon-type), it stills manages to rise above and keep itself top-notch. one way or another.

Garchomp is quite powerful on its own, and access to moves such as Swords Dance; with those, it's able to become even more hard-hitting, causing it to become pretty easy to utilize. Once this Pokémon finds a way to set up Swords Dance, it'll be sort of tough for your opponent to counter it. It isn't so tough if you have the likes of Weavile on your team, however, but those kind of Pokémon are rarely seen used, sadly, which gives you less things to worry about.

Aside from that, I'm also pretty fond of Gliscor. As opposed to Garchomp, this one plays defensively, and could make quite a heavy wall at almost any given time. Plus, it's appearance is suitable as well (at least in my opinion), which makes me like it even more. Alongside, I'm also a fan of Golurk.

alisaie October 7th, 2014 7:56 PM

Voted for Trapinch line, Sandshrew line, and Sandile line. Flygon has been one of my favorites for as long as it has existed. Sandshrew and Sandslash are adorable and have been among my favs for a while and after Best Wishes! Sandile grew on me a toon so there's the reason behind that vote.

Firox October 7th, 2014 8:29 PM

Not much a fan of ground types - I have used and like before Sandshrew, Sandslash, Marshtomp, and Swampert.

Blastin'Tyruntz October 7th, 2014 11:34 PM

Grachomp, Gliscor, Krookodile and Zygarde (Zygrade?)
To me, the first 3 are just plain great, Krookodile being one of my favorite pokemons and Gliscor and Grachomp just powerhouses of awesomeness competitively.
The legendary was for funsies.

Altius October 8th, 2014 3:00 AM

Voted for flygon (obviously) and the mudkip line, because why not. Besides, I liek mudkipz.
