Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso
Synopsis Episodes: 22 Status: Currently airing Genres: Drama, Music, Romance, School, Shounen Piano prodigy Arima Kosei dominated the competition and all child musicians knew his name. But after his mother, who was also his instructor, passed away, he had a mental breakdown while performing at a recital that resulted in him no longer being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Even two years later, Kosei hasn't touched the piano and views the world in monotone, and without any flair or color. He was content at living out his life with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari until, one day, a girl changed everything. Miyazono Kaori is a pretty, free spirited violinist whose playing style reflects her personality. Kaori helps Kosei return to the music world and show that it should be free and mold breaking unlike the structured and rigid style Kosei was used to. More information: myanimelist So, any of you trying this one out? I think it is worth checking out, m8s. Initial Impressions:Amazingly vivid art. Good background score and very fun characters. And gives off a Nodame Cantabile vibe. That can't be bad, can it? ;) credit to Lilith for the layout. Thanks sis! :p |
Shounen with Shoujo animation?
I'm sold. |
Noitamina = will watch.
Shame on you torrent, hurry up |
This is madness, the characters have lips and noses.
|
Story seems like a pretty boring one tbh but I suppose it's worth a watch maybe it will be surprising.
|
This is either going to be fantastic or terrible.
I'm hoping this turns out to be both fun and touching which it will with good character work and execution. I guess it's on my list to watch but I still haven't fully gotten through the Summer anime yet haha |
I'm definitely going to watch the first episode when I have time, it looks like it could be interesting, and the art looks nice. :)
|
I'm really liking it. I said this is giving off Nodame vibes, right? Come second episode, they get even stronger. Kaori's style of music is the same as what Nodame does - she plays beautifully but messes up the tempo and the dynamics of the piece - so much so that it doesn't even seem like the piece that they're supposed to play. And Arima, like Chiaki, picks up on that. <3 And then there's the scene where Kaori's hands are shaking after her performance when she asks Arima about how he liked it and Arima looks at it and then goes all poetic at her. Which was sweet. <333 The art's been great in ep 2 as well with a few exceptions (that scene with Arima and Watari....yeeeeeeaaaahhhhhhh). Kao-chan's performance was great and, overall, I was left with the feeling that I need to see more of this asap by the time credits rolled. Which is great. But sad. Since I HAVE TO WAIT FOR ONE FRIGGIN' WEEK UGHHHH. >_>'
Scene at the end implied quite a bit instead of actually telling us everything due to the camera placement, I feel. Kaori probably understood what Watari's really busy with. And, for some reason, I feel that the whole date with Watari thing is a cover for our "Yuujin A"/Friend A to get acquainted with Kao-chan all planned in secret by Tsubaki. ALSO, another thing of note - Watari's dialogue with Arima in the music room was interesting - "It is only natural for the girl you love to love someone else, right?". Referring to Tsubaki now, are we? :p if this keeps on going like this it'll be AOTS for me. |
Doesn't really feel like Nodame to me, even with the quirky girl and music themes. Pleasant show though despite it being about as cookie cutter a s high school romance anime can be.
Brace yourself for baseball suffering. |
It probably wouldn't be as good as Nodame since Nodame has a lot of character and heart to it. And the music, too, took the center-stage to a much larger degree (at least in the first season) than in this. It isn't in my top 5 anime of all time for no reason. But the similarities are enough for me to get reminded of it anyway. :p
Art here is, though, much more captivating than Nodame for me personally. I just love this. The vibrant palette is just my cup of tea. |
Art wise it is a win for Nodame for me, although this is really nice to look at too.
The piano CGI is a lot nicer in this. The difference between A-1 and JC Staff I suppose. |
That, and it is probably the difference in the years too I suppose? It has been a few years since Nodame came out. Production houses are probably getting better at CGI, I suppose? I'm not sure. I mean, I think JC Staff did CGI in the final season (little as it my have been...) much better than it did in the first season.
But I digress. I'd agree with the fact that the CGI here is nicer to look at though, yes. |
Integration of CGI into an anime is an art, some people are better at ti than others. I'd also guess that there are some pretty hefty budget differences between studios. As for the actual advancing technology, I doubt much has changed.
|
Oh, it is an art, yeah. Which is why I love shows that pull it off amazingly without looking awkward (Initial D <3). But, like I said, CGI in the final season looked much better than the one in the first season - which makes me think JC aren't as bad as they initially seemed. :p
But yeah, this having a higher budget than Nodame wouldn't surprise me. |
Yikes, up to date with the manga. Well, as much as I can be.

It does seem to be a bit cookie cutter romance, but I haven't seen too many romance shows that I like so I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. I like Kaori and the music theme, the second episode was pretty good. The kids are pretty cute. n_n

According to people on forums who have read the manga, the story deviates from the norm quite a bit and becomes more than just a "cookie-cutter romance". Let's see if that's actually true.
So far it has been very charming, though. Episode 3 was a pleasant watch, again. But god damn it, some of Kaori's lines and some scenes - not a good sign at all. I think I might know what Laptrap may be referring to. And if it is true, I don't like that. I'd cry. :( |

Also some good news, apparently this adaptation will be the entire series. So there really is no need to bolt ahead with the manga like I did. |
Yes. Yes. All of my yes. A complete adaptation is what I wanted. Couldn't have asked for more. Hopefully Parasyte gets it too and I'll maybe have two series I can hold really close to my heart.
Although that depends on whether or not they're deteriorate in the future but...probably not. Parasyte is highly regarded while Shigatsu has won awards or something. High hopes. Although I'll have to brace up for the sad stuff. I'll cry, definitely. |
I agree. Im really getting a Nodame vibe from this. So, it's going to be a complete adaptation? Hopefully this will end up good.

Episode 3:
Ok, expected tenkai (development) is expected =D But... DAT ENGRISH :DDDDDDD Holy damn, I didn't expect Risa to be that bad :DDDDD Hell, it was cute as any Engrish but... oh damn :D |
Oh god. I'm not ready to cry. I haven't cried since After Story.
Also lol yeah, the English was amusing as ever to listen to but it wasn't awful. But it will never be as funny as Kuroko no Basket's English. I don't really get the "not hearing the piano anymore" but I'm still going to roll with it. I think next week's will be a good episode. |

I really like it so far. I'm so glad that I picked this up this season.
Also, episode 4's cliffhanger. Not a good sign. |
People have been bashing this show on randomc for a while now. Because apparently pushing Kousei the way they've been doing all this time now is "bullying" and is wrong.
Not that I care. I don't see it that way. All the "bullying" I see is done for comic relief and the "pushing" is basically being done to bring him out of that suffocatingly dark shell he has closed himself in. So I'm alright with it. Series is top-class. I await each episode eagerly. |
