The Pokemon OR/AS 'Should-Change' Thread
Hello! I hope you read this and tell me about your thoughts about the subject matter as well as what I will discuss to this community.
Well, I am now playing OR and it seems like some of my expectations have not been met yet. I have played Pokemon RBGY Versions from the very first year they have been available in the market but I have never had what I hoped for in this very recent generation. And now the points: *The Battles Are Too Easy. They should have made it much more challenging by beefing up the AI system in move selection as well as Individual Values. The problem here is that 80% (if not 85-90%) of your story mode, you end up one hitting Trainers' Pokemon because players just do the "Weakness Switch" on them and they will go down in flames very easily. Any Pokemon are subject to this, even the 'cool-looking' ones, the 'strong-looking' ones and even Legendaries. This is absurd. It takes away the thrill we have had when it was in the older generations. Bottom line is that we become 'very overpowered' at an early stage of the game. *Even Number of Pokemon in Trainer Battles- Seriously, right from the very beginning, the first ever Gym Leader (Brock of Kanto) has only 2 Pokemon. It is not very realistic and noteworthy to defeat him with 6 Pokemon in full health. There should be implementation of "Even Numbers of Battling Pokemon" even just in Gyms. If a trainer will put out 3 Pokemon, then the Player should only use 3 Pokemon. Because that is how battles should work. It would be one heck of a better gaming. We do NOT need Nuzlocke if these things will be included in the game. There will be no need for them at all. *Use of Trainer Items- Have you seen Ash use a Revive to wake his fainted Pokemon while battling a Trainer? Well, I haven't. And I believe there is no need for usage of items whenever in a Trainer battle. Why? Because what is the use of battling a Pokemon if you will just use 10 Hyper Potions just to stay alive to knock off the EXP out of the more powerful Pokemon? Your Pokemon will be much happier if he/she will be able to defeat the said Pokemon without the use of items. I will not be proud of my Pokemon if he/she has won being revived 20 times. *Legendaries- Oh the Legends.. wait.. are they not just Pokemon that exist in almost every game in every Pokemon Players all around the Globe? Well that makes them... common Pokemon. Yes, that's right. What I really wish is that they implement a ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD Pokemon. One that can be won through WIFI competitions and the winner will defend the Pokemon ownership. Seriously. They should just be trophies and not just be given away easily. Do not get me wrong. I do not want 'all' of them to have only one original in existence. Some mild legendaries can exist in 50s or 100s but not 100,000s. That is just insanely out of the question. This takes away their Legendary title. *Lack of Pokemon Present in the Overworld- It is the Pokemon World after all. Why do we see only few of them available in houses or in other maps? There should be Pokemon running around in towns, cities, malls. They may have improved in the latest version about this but to me, it is not good enough. So far these are the main concerns I have. I have some more but my brain is a bit exhausted from the day's work. I will update soon and let you know which part of the Pokemon Generation should have/ should change. |
These aren't legitimate criticisms in ORAS, especially the first one since anyone can beat a Pokémon game if they know what they're doing. The real criticism here is still the lack of type diversity, causing the gym leader/Elite Four's rosters to be lackluster. They could've added more Pokémon alongside of the cross-gen pre-evolved/evolved forms to fix this major issue, but they didn't. Don't even try telling me their teams change postgame, because I wanted those changes during the story mode, so my OCD doesn't kick in from this major flaw. It baffles me that the recent gen games get criticized for being too easy because of the rosters but praise the older games for their difficulty, even though the fact that Hoenn's Elite Four are still using mid-evolved forms of their ace Pokémon would've actually made me easier than the newer gens' Elite Four. Because of this issue, I sincerely hope that ORAS doesn't outsell XY, causing Game Freak to give the idea that fans only want enhanced versions of the old games rather than new experiences that fixes the major problem the old games suffered from, which is type diversity.
|
As far as legends go, it was mentioned in another thread, but some people think one of the reasons almost all of them are available here is so they can be used in VGC tournaments, which require Pokémon obtained in XY or ORAS, none from the DS games. (That and it aids in letting the newer players complete the Pokédex without having to transfer.)
And for the record, Steven's Champion team has 30 IVs across the board, but that's a different thing to address. |
You guys DO understand this is a game set up for 6 and 7 years old to be able to beat, right?
|
ah the ever present "it is too easy" cry. If you want a harder game play games that are harder. Pokemon is an all audiences game pretty much and there are people who enjoy not having to grind to hell to play through. If you want a harder game then nuzlocke it or similar.
I only just got it so cant say much yet on other issues. I would like if the sky had a more representative colour . I can't stand the BSOD colour of sky. Also it seems to be quite windy all the time... |
The only thing I'd like to change in OR/AS is to include the Emerald Battle Frontier instead of the Battle Maison.
|
I have to agree with Pinkie on the lack of Pokemon diversity in ORAS. I was hoping that they'd expand the Hoenn Dex in ORAS, and it really doesn't seem like that's the case. The Mauville Gym is still filled with Voltorbs and Magnemites. Battle Girls with a Meditite are still in Gyms that aren't Brawly's. Team Magma and Aqua still only use the Poochyena, Zubat, and Numel/Carvanha lines--Oh wait they sometimes use Grimers now, such a huge difference. And lemme guess, Glacia is still gonna come at me with 2 Sealeos and 2 Glalies? I wanna see some different stuff.....
@the thing about the games being too easy: http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=8484353&postcount=11 So I don't have to type that all out again. |

In regards to the other topics, the main reason to blame for recent Pokemon games being easier is likely changes in Experience mechanics (such as 6th Gen's overpowered Exp. Share causing overleveling at times) but also, if you're someone who has played Pokemon games for a long time, you get smarter which means you know how everything works and that makes the game easier as a result. For those who want to step up difficulty, we do have Nuzlockes and the like for that. Legendaries being easily available in-game? In 6th Gen you can essentially obtain every non-event legendary (and also every starter as well) just by trading between X/Y and OR/AS. There are some solid claims backing this up, such as eligibility for VGC Tournaments which require Pokemon generated within 6th Gen (like what Pendraflare said) or to help newer players complete the Pokedex by implementing this "anti-frustration" feature, because not everyone can get Pokemon Bank. I also agree with Pinkie-Dawn's post especially regarding type diversity in regional dexes. Some regions (like Sinnoh and Hoenn in particular) greatly lack specific types and that means type specialists who use the said lacking types can end up with dupes (aka different members of the same evolution line) or in the case of Volkner and Flint in D/P, Pokemon that aren't even their specialized type. I guess it's a little cliche, but it would be amazing if GF started to make "Drayano-ish" games
|
I personally just have a few complaints:
Exp. Share- I hated the new mechanic for the exp. share. It's way too easy to level up your team now. You can pretty much just use the first pokemon in your party and never have to switch. No Battle Frontier- I don't even need to explain this. I know the game hints towards an Emerald remake but the frontier should already be in ORAS in my opinion. There was no need to leave it out, it was a huge disappointment for me. Trainers Are Too Easy- If I can OHKO a trainer's team without grinding for lvl gains then you know something needs to be done here. Yes, this game is for all ages but that doesn't mean there can't be a challenge every once in awhile. I'm breezing through this game like it's nothing and that's not what I had expected for this remake. Cosplay Pikachu- Im probably the only one that thinks this but I just hate the idea of a pokemon who is good in all contest themes without you having to do anything and can transform into whichever form you need it to be in. It makes the competitions too easy. If they are going to give you something like that, why not make you put more effort into getting it? I won one competition and got it, woah what an accomplishment. No Character Customization- Need I say more? X and Y had the right idea with you being able choose how your trainer looked. I know this is a remake but can we at least change outfits? It's really not that big of a deal but I was expecting a little more than what was given. That's all I can think of right now. I was very impressed with the game all-in-all. The Dex Nav is just an awesome feature and flying is super fun (: That and it was nice to see the Hoenn world recreated in 3D, I think they did a very good job with it. |
Quote:
I would love to have something like that in Post-Game on a hard difficulty setting. But nothing like that in the main-game. |
Steven got more awesome is that a plus? Oh yes it is. I just like the games for the enjoyment of it, i'll let it get hard during online battles. Frankly I feel exp share helps more with post game. Still at least you can turn it off which is why I dont really mind it so much. At least they gave us rematches with trainers and the E4 this time. Why I can agree with most things said. The games are an improvement. Plus secret bases are so cool.
|
Sadly, only points already discussed in the past and the weaknesses of this thread was put to light and not the other points given.
|
I'm genuinely bugged that the NPC Trainer's Pokemon rosters are still weak. This is one of the biggest flaws of the original RSE, and they haven't bothered to fix it. Gym leaders got it the worst. I would be fine if they had their Emerlad roster, but for some reason they stuck with their vastly inferior Ruby and Sapphire roster. Tate and Liza battle in Emerald was such a vast improvement over R/S because of the addition of Xatu and Claydol.
But it's not like these these remakes ever really tend to fix the original's flaws. HG/SS kept G/S/C's ******** level curve. >_> |
I'm pretty in love with these games and don't have a lot of complaints, honestly. I just wish the music had a little more BOOM! to it, but it's still a nice soundtrack regardless.
About the legendary thing, ever since generation IV, people have been crying "too many legendaries!" And I understand that they should be in smaller quantities, but I think the reason for so many in this game is so that we can get pentagon legendaries. Makes sense to me since, from what I understand, they have to be XY/ORAS born (pentagon) to be used in tournaments and such, as well as what the traders online value. So while in the sense that legendaries shouldn't be given so freely, it doesn't make sense. But for the new pentagon system, it makes perfect sense and I think that was the intent on putting in so many. It would be nice if challenge mode from BW2 would make a return, but even then, I didn't find that all too challenging if I'm being honest. I guess it depends on the player. I haven't had a hard time with Pokemon games since...my first playthrough of Diamond and Pearl. I've just been good at them since then and considering the target age range, it makes sense that they're on the easy side. |
On the note of NPC trainer rosters, I think Gen V and XY's trainers actually had pretty strong teams, especially in areas like Frost Cavern, Victory Road, and the Veterans in those games. In those games, or at least XY, I would go so far as to say that trainers are more cumbersome than Gym Leaders. It's weird, but that's what i've been thrown.

Take what I have with a grain of salt as I haven't played the game. But based on the information that has come out there's a lot that I'm disappointed about.
-The first is easy, no Battle Frontier. Getting to play the game with a set of new rules that both you and the AI have to follow would have been really cool and probably would keep my attention longer. -The Mirage Spots just being battles rather than being areas to explore. They could have been able to add diversity and puzzles if they had turned these into explorable areas. (I know there are mirage islands, but I don't know if that counts as a Mirage Spot) -The inability to choose the team of Pokemon your lackies have in your secret base. You can't really make a gym like they were advertising because you can't make a coherent theme. I was thinking you'd be able to assign a roster of Pokemon you actually own to the other trainers. Which would have been amazing! -Less puzzles in the trick house. There's really no excuse for it. -The removal of the berry mixing game. I personally liked it. Make a reset block, like the reset bag from X and Y for EVs, and we're cool. -The removal of the Pokemon Center men. I guess the O-Power guy is supposed to replace them? But I really wanted to see what they would do with The Story Teller, Trader, Bard, Hipster, and Giddy. -Inverse battles still being limited to once a day. Why is this even a thing? I should be able to battle the character any time that I want... (I was also hoping to see him get upgraded to a Frontier Brain.) -Lack of another region. Reading this one you might immediately jump to 'The originals didn't have one >.>.' But that's exactly it. I was hoping ORAS could remedy what made RSE so lackluster for me and caused me to leave the Pokemon fandom way back when. (This one requires a lot more in-depth explanation to get where I'm coming from so please PM me if you want to talk about this particular point.) |
I don't have much complaints for the gameplay aside of the weaker NPCs/Gym Leaders. Basically, I'm more of a storyline/character/aesthetic person, so...
- They should've put back Frontier Brain and their redesigns (but they are probably too lazy for that, so). - Where is Juan? We all know the poor guy's an Emerald-exclusive only, but hey, at least they can put him back to the story in a similar role to Lisia (as a coordinator) or Alder in B2/W2. - I actually like having Pokemon center and Pokemart in one building, it's much more efficient and convenient too. - Character customization. I really like that feature :< |
My disappointments mostly lie with what Gamefreak changed from RS to ORAS, but there were some other things, for example:
- Teleportation: I know you could have selected No when your rival asked if you wanted to travel with them, but I honestly cannot imagine what made Gamefreak even put this option in the game. I accidentally beat the whole game without going to the desert, and I realize it's my fault but why would they ever include that option. It's like encouraging players to rush through the game instead of exploring the region =/ - Mirage Tower: Speaking of the desert, I wish Mirage Tower was back, and maybe there was some Team Aqua/Magma grunts in there. The Mach Bike puzzle would be easier because of the new controls, but it would still be pretty cool. - Lack of Juan: I didn't like how Juan disappeared off of the face of PokeEarth. He was a gym leader for one game, would have been nice to see him again. - Lack of Battle Frontier: I realize that it was still being built in Ruby and Sapphire but honestly who cares if the timeline is broken if we can have the Battle Frontier back, lol. That thing was awesome and challenging. - Handing us legendaries: It was nice, I guess, that we got [email protected] without chasing after it postgame but it was literally just thrown in there and handed to us on a silver platter. I don't care that we got access to a zillion legendaries in game, because it's awesome and nice that I don't have to transfer them all. - No Sandform Castform! :( - Split Pokemart + Pokecenter: not a big deal, but I don't really get why they did it regardless. - New Mauville: I really hate this design, not only is it kind of confusing but it feels claustrophobic to me, why is an entire city under one roof? Honestly, having played these games, I really LOVE most of the additions they did (DexNav, Flying, new characters), but I really do like Emerald's storyline a little better. I didn't really feel like Kyogre was going to destroy the world, kinda felt like it was just waiting for me. Seeing a Primal battle and having to go get Rayquaza would have been awesome, honestly, but that's just a personal preference. The opposite team in the game you weren't playing was also a bit weird, and I didn't really like how easily the evil teams gave up after literally achieving their goal. |

Even if they were too iconic for customisation, they could of at least gave us different color for the outfits, be it blue and green. also the contest outfit model is kind of useless if it's only to show off to Lisia and some seconds before a contest, they could of at least let us wear it the whole game.
The only problem with that is now everyone will look the same online, and if 2 people happen to have the same name only their class icon will make them different. And speaking of icons why they didn't even bothered to offer May and Brendan icons. |

I don't know why you're addressing me as if I represent the entire Pokemon fanbase as a whole or just addressing what I put in bold instead of what I said after, but okay. I literally said I didn't care amount the amount of legendaries, (in fact, I said I liked how we had access to all of them) I cared about how [email protected] were handed to us - given without capture. That was my problem, not the amount. I also don't understand how you drew the connection between New Mauville and the split Pokemon Center/Mart, because I explicitly stated that I didn't like New Mauville because it had a confusing layout and it felt claustrophobic due to an entire city being under one roof, I said nothing about me not liking it because it was a new building. Plus, the whole point of a remake is not to do things exactly as they were before. By saying, "they wanted to do it as it was before," you're ignoring everything Gamefreak put into the game that wasn't there - well, let's just toss out the Delta Episode, Primals, Mega Evolutions, new aspects of Secret Bases and contests, Pokemon that were introduced after Gen 3, because none of those were in the original game and thus shouldn't be in a remake, right? The whole point of a remake is to make the games better, plus at the end of the game it says "Based off of the works by the Ruby and Sapphire development team" (something like that) so Gamefreak took what they liked about Gen 3 and worked off of it, they didn't necessarily make RS on 3ds and then said, "What can we do to change this?" |
Well, apart from the obvious ones like the Battle Frontier, I was hoping for gym leader as well as rival rematches. I know Wally counts as one, but the original pair can mega evolve as well. It's a bit sad to see them able to mega evolve once in a rather sudden battle.
|
I don't know about you guys but, I came here for the trading system. I really hope there is some way to tell the gamedevs that the trading system without levels and communication is terribly inefficient. How am I going to know who to trade with judging by their faces? And how can I tell others I like or dislike his or her offering pokemon? I'm really confused about why they went back in the improvements they made in BW BW2 and XY. :(

May's new design irks me for some reason. I would've brought back her R/S design.
Tabitha has been utterly ruined for me. If that fat guy was a new Magma admin altogether, and Tabitha was kept as he was, I could've tolerated it. I like the new Shelley, but again, I wish she was a new Aqua admin, and the old Shelley was brought back. Maxie looks a bit too much like a nerd in my opinion. I was more impressed with his old design. Why do we have to beat Wallace now before we can get the key for New Mauville? In RSE, we could get the Mauville key after receiving the fifth badge, which was perfectly fine. In RSE, we had to traverse through the deeper parts of the Granite Cave to get to Steven. In ORAS, we can reach Steven right away after defeating Brawly, but we can't even get in most of the cave before getting a bike! On top of that, Geodude is now rarer in the Granite Cave than it was in RSE! Yes, Zubat and Makuhita are cute and all, but when common Pokemon keep showing up while you want a rarer Pokemon, it can get annoying. The new music for Mt. Chimney sounds too jazz-like for a volcano. The old music was pretty epic and makes you feel like there's a reason to go and defeat Team Aqua/Magma. Mega Latias and Mega Latios are soooo unnecessary. I would've made soaring so that it could be done by Pokemon that can fly and carry humans on their back. Examples include Pidgeot, Staraptor, Talonflame, Salamence, and of course the [email protected] While I'm glad that Gallade and friends are in the Hoenn dex, I still wish Game Freak had expanded it more. As I've said numerous times before, I was hoping that the Gastly, Houndour, Shellder, Shellos, and Tangela lines, among others, would make the Hoenn dex. I also miss the Battle Frontier and trainer customization, but I don't think I need to explain those ones. |
I wish they hadn't made a lot of the pokemon trainers weaker in the remakes than in the originals. They were already pretty bad in those games. Lowering the levels was completely unnecessary. I mean we (those who were kids then) were able to handle that so it's not that hard. -.- I also really did not like how they got rid of the Battle Frontier. That was pretty epic and I was so looking forward to it. They could've made these games so much better...
|
Difficulty Switcher, where before you start your adventure you can have three or for choices. Easy, Medium, Hard, Advanced. All it would do is just boost some trainer's Pokemon levels...

In terms of in-game models, I was annoyed that Capt. Stern and Prof. Cozmo had palette swaps of the Gentleman and the Scientist. I feel like they could have used their anime designs to better distinguish them from other people. At least Mr. Briney's model used his anime design.

So unless you only play the first 3 gyms and then stop, the gym leaders are pretty much on par with the originals. What I don't get is why does everyone assume the games are easier and not that they are simply better at playing the game? After all, if you played the original (which would be up to 10 years ago depending on your age) why would you automatically assume your skill level would never ever improve ever in anything you ever play ever? No one stays at the same level, everyone always improves so instead of blaming the games, why not blame yourselves for having the secret ability of long term memory and being able to learn from experience? ;-D |
They should've changed the teams of the gym leaders more, and they should've added a new area to the routes surrounding Fortree, because I think that would be awesome and I always feel like it should be a more important part of the game!
|
Gym Leaders. I really thought we are going to have at least one new gym leader or even a new Elite Four. but, nah.
Also, more M-Evolutions. I really thought that revealing all Mega in the trailers leading to the game is bad as it leaves us nothing new in that area to discover. Also, M-Milotic, M-Butterfree, M-Flygon |
The difficult didn't really bother me, if you really want to make it harder, you have tons of options to do so yourself. Nuzlocke, avoiding trainers, not using the exp. share, using weaker/un-evolved pokemon. The diversity makes sense in-game with the whole environment thing, so that's not TOO bad, not to mention it IS part of the 6th generation; you're expected to connect with X and Y. The amount of legendaries is a bit much, but that's just the issue of Game Freak going nuts in gen 4 and 5 with an absurd amount of legendary pokemon that have added up over the years. I like the way the Hoopa rings give us access to pokemon from other times and places, though this does lead me to my only real gripe with ORAS: The lack of post-game content.
The Delta Episode was excellent, don't get me wrong, but once you finish it, there's absolutely nothing worthwhile left to do. The story should not completely die. All we have left to do is catch some legendary pokemon and be disappointed by the lack of a battle frontier. At the very least, there should be new dungeons to contain all the legendary pokemon, not just a small island with nothing to interact with. There should be new lands to explore once you become a Champion. FireRed and LeafGreen gave us the Sevii Islands, Heart Gold and Soul Silver gave us Kanto. Diamond and Pearl at least gave a few new islands and dungeons to explore. The only thing I have to hope for is some kind of DLC involving Hoopa's rings and such, but that has pretty much been shattered by the discovered Hoopa Unbound event. I loved this game and the story so much that it disappoints me to no end that it just stops with no real conclusion. It's even worse that the Battle Maison is probably the least extensive post-game challenge...ever. Even Crystal offered different brackets for the Battle Tower. It would have at least been nice to hook up with more characters than May/Brendon, Steven, Wally and Maxie/Archie in battles, too. DLC for gym rematches, more Zinnia, Hoopa and so on would be amazing... |
I just came up with another few:
I don't get why Rayquaza doesn't need an item to Mega Evolve. This just makes Mega Rayquaza more OP than necessary. The DexNav should show a wild Pokemon's nature too. This would make competitive team building so much easier. Also, why no gym leader rematches? |
Tabitha's New design doesn't bother me much anymore, but there are a few minor annoyances
- You can't Soar to quite late in the game - No Battle Frontier (but i'm sure this isn't just my opinion -_- ) - The fact that there are 4 contest halls, and they all offer all ranks -Any Pokémon can enter any Master Rank contest as long as it's unlocked -Preffered old Pokémon making method - Many people feel the Safari Zone has been ruined -Cannot rematch Gym Leaders -No Friend Safari (Perhaps this should have replace Safari Zone?) -How easy it is to accidently scare of a Pokémon in DexNav That's Pretty much it for now (Although i don't understand complaints about the quantity water, as i personally like it as it made the region unique and makes sense the Ground vs Water kind-of plot :) |
Wow, okay, playing the game, there's a few things that needs some changing.
I think the Frontier was a good post-game thing, something that XY definitely lacked as it had no post game at all (unless you count the mini side-quest of getting Meg Stones.) I wished to see the Battle Factory again. Gym rematches should be a given. They grow with you. What's there to stop them from challenging you to a friendly rematch? Trainer customization had been one of XY's best perks. I understand that GF wanted to retain the nostalgia by retaining Brendan and May as the protagonist, but they could be the base figures. Also, I am disappointed in seeing the same Pokemon in RSE in ORAS. I mean, there have been three generations after RSE. Would it hurt to include more during the pre-E4 routes to add more choices to the party? I hate to be limited to Pokemon like Gardevoir and Breloom again. |
Quote:
|
Well, its true that retaining most of the original dex adds to the nostalgia, but I guess I could have a better playthrough if I had the choice of a Fletchling early game, or an Emolga before Mauville, or the Pan-brothers. Hoenn is supposed to be a drastically varying landscape, with a volcano sitting beside a desert that is bounded by a river to the east and a rainforest across it. All the whil being surrounded by huge bodies of water. I think the landscape says as much.
|
Im not one of those to say the game was too easy. It was to be expected, since Pokemon is aimed towards children. I wouldn't mind them adding Challenge Mode back for the older and more advanced Pokemon Fans.
Lack of Pokemon: I was expecting a lot of Pokemon to be in OR/AS. I found the lack of Pokemon disappointing considering the large amount of Pokemon you were able to find in X/Y. I was pl;anning on getting a Breloom with technician and have Bullet Seed on it, but unfortunately that's impossible because Hopip isn't catchable in the game. It makes me angry too see that most of the Mirage Locations have only 2-4 Pokemon that are catchable when most routes in the Hoenn Mainland have a good 10-12 Pokemon that are catchable, liked route 117. There could have been much more Pokemon added to the Mirage Locations. Lack of Overworld Pokemon: Since the 3DS is capable of doing many grand things, I expected to see much more Pokemon in the overworld. Since the DexNav has a wonderful ability to register the information of the pokemon you're near, it would be amazing to get Dex information like you do in the Anime, without having to catch the Pokemon. unfortunately there is a huge lack of overworld Pokemon, which really was a disappointment. The times you actually get to see a Pokemon in thee overworld, it ends up being a Wingul or a Skitty. I expected to see a huge diversity, not a direct copy from the originals. I do hope they keep the DexNav and that function to get Dex info from a Pokemon in the Overworld. Free Legendary Pokemon: This is something that should always sick as a Post Game thing. Legends should not be obtainable before taking on the E4 or finishing the Main Story of the game. I think instead of giving you Latios/Latias they should have given you the Eon Flute, so that you can call upon Latios to take you to places you've already visited, and have Mirage Areas accessible after the E4 New Timeline?: They pretty much established that this remake (unlike HG/SS and FR/LG which replace the originals in the timeline) occurs in an alternate universe or whatever. This pretty much means this game may be apart of the Anime timeline. Happening after Ash's Kalos journey...or during it. Minor: * Some layout are incompatible with the DexNav. Since Bagon is only catchable in a small area that is mostly covered by water, it means you have to surf to make the Pokemon show up. But most of the time when you land on the platform to encounter the Pokemon, the landing causes the Pokemon to run off. * The Battle Mansion is a copy paste, and no Battle Frontier. * Juan? * Less Trick Room Puzzles * TooMuchContent 7.8/10 Also..Did anyone else notice the strange error when talking to Phoebe? When she says "The bonds I developed with my Pokemon is Extremely tight." you can notice something strange with the Hero/Heroine |
Quote:
And there isn't an error with the protagonist just before the match with Phoebe. This article explains the presence of a ghost girl near the player during the player's first battle with Phoebe. Anyway, and to keep this on topic, here's something else I thought was disappointing apart from the lack of Battle Frontier: how the lake guardians' availability is so lopsided. To put things in perspective, Uxie is only available from 8-9 PM, meaning you only have one hour to get it. IMO, all three of them should be available at equal times (they can rotate every 8 hours in a similar vein to how the legendary beasts rotate every 20 minutes). |
Not the game per se, but i would like if free battle could have two options with and without legendaries.
|
I have only a few problems and most of them are just minor nitpicks, because I think the game as a whole is pretty solid:
- Lack of character customization is the big Donphan in the room. I understand that they had to remove something for all the new features they put in. I also understand the need to somehow differentiate XY from ORAS to make it still relevant. If ORAS had character customization as well, they would completely eclipse XY, as they are superior games in every other way. I just hope they don't abandon this feature and that it will become a staple for future Pokemon games. - The removal of the PR Studio. Am I the only one who actually liked that little feature in XY? - Some features from Emerald didn't make it, most notably the Battle Frontier and Varrick from the Legend of Korra Juann. It stands to reason though, as they're supposed to be remakes of RS, not Emerald. And the Battle Resort at least still gives us back the Move Tutors form B2W2 as well as being the best place to hatch Eggs in the history of the franchise. - The story-mode legendaries all have insanely long cutscenes before and after getting them, the worst offenders being Latios/Latias and Deoxys. I know you can faint some of them on purpose and re-challenge them later with noticably less cutscenes, but come on! There's no way GF doesn't know by now that soft-reseting legendaries is a thing that people do. - This is more of an aesthetic thing, but the music of the Mirage Spot legendaries being the same, un-remixed themes from the respective games they first appeared in would imply that you're fighting the versions from those games. For example, the Entei you're fighting would be the same Entei as the one in Crystal and has somehow traveled through space and time. If that's indeed the case, shouldn't they be the same level you encounter them in those games and have the same moves when you fight them? I know that having a Lv 70 Kyurem before the Pokemon League would break the game, but these games brought us Mega Rayquaza, so screw balance! |
I have been waiting months for this game to be released (just like most of you guys), and in general, I'm certainly not disappointed. However, I do agree with some aspects others have already addressed about the ORAS games;
The Battle Frontier - Yes, of course it would have been nice if the battle frontier would have returned, because this was a huge challenge in the games imo (back in Emerald). I am aware these are remakes of Ruby/Sapphire, but to add some challenges to the games would have been nice, they could have done this by bringing the Battle Frontier back. I am aware Pokemon games are of course for a younger audience, but on the other hand it would have been nice to add some challenges we knew in the good old games for the "Pokemon veterans" among us. Obtainable Pokemon - I kinda like the fact they used Hoenn-only Pokemon in the main-playthrough of these games. When you have all 8 badges though, you will obtain a National Dex (yes, this early, surprised me). You can catch around 3 more different (and not native to Hoenn) Pokemon on certain routes. Also, the Mirage Spots and soaring through the sky are nice, to obtain legendaries and other Pokemon. BUT, on the other hand, they could have considered putting more Pokemon in the game (in the wild) from other regions, since this is Gen.6 after all, and there are over 700 Pokemon known now (so why not use them). Cosplay Pikachu - Like some others already stated, I too, don't like the cosplay-pikachu idea. They are so overdone to begin with, and they kinda creep me out. And WHY is it only possible for Pikachu to dress up? I know I would not want to use dressed Pokemon in contests, I just prefer to have my own Pokemon in there as they are... I understand this might has something to do with the contest props, like we knew from Gen.5, but still... The Cosplay Pikachu seemed a bit weird to me... Now, about the last thing that crosses my mind really often; I often read in different threads people share their minds about the lack of customization (Gen.6), roller skates (Gen.6), digging for fossils (Gen.4) and what-not, and why they didn't have a comeback in ORAS. It was pretty clear soon enough, customization would not make a comeback in ORAS. TO start with, EVERY region of Pokemon games had their own "features", remember? To name some, Generation 4 had digging in the underground for fossils and other items, and making an underground-base. Generation 5 had the Dream World (useless now, but still a unique thing in these games), Generation 6 (XY) had rollerskates and the customization. They wanted the trainer-customization to be Kalos-exclusive, don't get me wrong I loved customization too, but on the other hand it is clear these things are bound to certain generations in the Pokemon games. Just like we knew in the old R/S/E games; the secret bases, the different bikes, battle frontier (emerald)... They all made a comeback now in ORAS (except BF), we have now the opportunity to make new awesome secret bases, share these with friends, we can Dive again, we can even have the two bikes at once and we also have the new DexNav which replaced the Pokenav/Pokeradar, but still an awesome (new) feature. These features come and go I suppose, or get a nice (improved) comeback in remakes like these, but these are what makes some Pokemon games/generations unique. We get tons of new features in each game, so just be happy with what we've got. :) If you want to customize your trainer or dig for fossils, you still have something to enjoy in the "older" games! |

And although everyone here has mentioned the Battle Frontier, I never really cared about feeling a need for it to return...at least until I read Masuda's jarring response on why it didn't come, and now it may never return. And since (it was stated in another thread) that the average XY player was around 20, that should tell them something for their future projects! |
Quote:
I still think, though, that if ORAS had all the features it currently has PLUS character customization, then there would be no reason to go back to XY. So, in a strange way I'm also glad they didn't put it in, 'cause then people who bought XY might have felt like they were ripped off. |
I think it is ridiculousbto have suddenly 20 diff pokemon in one patch of grass after the deoxys episode. If it was left to me then you could have left the original rse pokemon in like in rse . for foreign pokemon i would have been fine with a daily changing safari zone instead.
|
^ Come again? Because i'm not really getting which post-game area you're referring to, because it's not the Battle Resort or any one of the Mirage Islands.
|
Gym leader rematches, give a ribbon for every contest rank like the older games, different battle frontier-esque area.

and a daily changing safari would be cool similar to soul silver safari zone. Not the failure that was friend safari. |

At least winning contests allow you to talk with NPCs and get some nice items, including berries. |

Well, another alternative to that is that you could always transfer said legends from previous games if you were willing to part with them (which, to be completely honest, I did with a few of the ones I have yet to get). And this doesn't really need mentioning, but there's the fact that most games don't require event Pokémon for completion.
|
HGSS had the best bottom screen layout design
Being able to toggle running Not having to navigate through an extra menu to use field moves (Heck, where's "This cave is pretty dark, would you like to use Flash? Would make it less of a hassle) Having two Key Item slots right there to choose from instead of pressing X then a direction (I once used the Eon Flute five times in a row when I was trying to get on my bike) And there needs to be a Mew event in-game We can get Latias, Latios and Deoxys with no effort, yet for Mew, you need to trade it all the way from Emerald... |
Here's another one I just remembered: why are there so few type-boosting items in the game? Some of them, like I think the Black Belt and the Silver Powder, can't be obtained at all, and there are the plates but they're really hard to get since they're all underwater and you can't use the Dowsing Machine there. So they should have given them all for the separate types...

One complaint I have is that the AI isn't as good as Gen V's...they seem to have kept it at Gen VI's easy level. Another one is that they left out the BF and just put in the battle Maison (I rather have the tower with the same modes thank you very much (just for the sake of avoiding copy and pasting)). Also getting the plates is too difficult... |
The thing that is annoying me the most right now is Pokemon started in 1996 and it's now 2015 and we still don't have a mass release feature! Why is this not a thing? It takes so much time to sit there and release one by one each pokemon for us breeders. It already takes a lot of time just to hatch all those eggs. I mean seriously. :l
|
I'd like to be able to release eggs. I often get them from trades. Thank god I have Power Saves, so I can just make them hatch and 1 step, and then release them.
Also, I disliked the copy of the Battle Maison. |
You know, the mention of mass releasing is something that i've never really thought of, that is something I think should be available because I know what it's like when I get a bunch of junk from Wonder Trade and want to release it but have so much that I need to drop. Not helped when you breed so many things...
|
Copying of the Battle Maison was the largest for me idk about u guys but i miss the battle frontier immensely :(
Also hopefully we can travel to the islands where mew lugia and ho-oh a re id really like to see navel rock! |
Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who prefers the Maison/Subway to the Frontier.....
|
Well, HGSS copy/pasted the Frontier from Platinum, except for making Move Tutors require BP while the latter didn't. But I could understand that some people aren't as much into gimmicks like what the Frontier tends to throw at you (and there's less areas that would probably be rage-inducing...). As I mentioned, I don't really care about it not returning here myself.

What should be changed in ORAS:
Expanded Regional Dex. The only expansions present are to current Hoenn families, which the trainers rarely use. Heck, Wally should have had a Magnezone and a Roserade on his team instead of Magneton and Roselia respectively. Battle Frontier. It would be nice to have, but not worth losing any sleep over it. Mega Rayquaza. Just nerf it so Smogon doesn't have to break the fundamental purpose of what Ubers is, a banlist, by banning it from there. Overpowered abilities on Mega Evolutions (will probably affect X/Y also). These induce a power curve of its own which can be somewhat comparable to the Weather Wars of Gen V. The -liate abilities in particular need nerfs - Why does a type conversion ability need to boost its power in the process? Parental Bond also needs serous nerfing while the other broken megas that don't abuse the -liate abilities (read: Gengar, Lucario and Mawile) get different abilities to make them more managable. Broken abilities on non-megas (will probably affect X/Y also). Gale Wings needs a nerf despite Talonflame not being centralizing enough to ban - It forces you to run resists or pokemon that are bulky enough to take 120 BP priority Brave Birds from Talonflame or make sure rocks are up to prevent it from safely entering altogether. Additionally, Protean needs to be nerfed too, so that Greninja will be more managable. What ORAS did change and should remain that way (in response to common complaints): Difficulty. The game is geared towards kids, so it should remain easy. A game of challenging difficulty to us would be a nightmare for kids. A challenge mode would be nice, but not really mandatory Mauvile City. I don't know about you, but I felt it was so plain in the original that GF felt the need to rebuild it from scratch. Something does feel off a little about its design which feels like a giant shopping mall, but it is at least different from the rest of the big cities we had. No roaming legends. These were incredibly tedious to catch in any of the games, far more than any non-roaming legendaries. The fact that they can run while they are asleep to is stupid. Though I suppose they could return if their encounter mechanics change (eg. catchrate increasing steadily for each encounter). The "teleporting" cutscene with May. The one with Wally is bad because it didn't ask if you wanted to do it, but the one with May is perfectly fine because it asks you wherever you wanted to do that or not. It is convenient because you can skip straight to the next gym without Fly/Soaring if you wanted to get right on with the game instead of taking the time to explore. |

In Japan, sales tend to be sealed by the end of the nearest Christmas season, as subsequent sales are minuscule in comparison. The figure for ORAS in Japan is 2.92 million, compared to HGSS' 3.74 and XY's 4.34 figures as of December of their respective release years (the numbers barely changed later). I doubt that the international sales will reverse this gap. |
I get that this is a "childerens" game but they could at least put difficulty levels and more than what they did with bw2. Only hard/easy mode. I would like a mode with a pure challenge like all gym leaders have 6 pokémon, the smartest ai and restrictions as in can't use items in trainer battles, locked in set mode, egg/tutor moves on gym leader/rival/e4 pokémon and also give them competitive viable teams.
|
I somehow hoped that they would use the old Pokémon's cries again in OR/AS... I still haven't gotten used to most of the new cries, some (like Raichu for example) just sound so weird! Am I the only one who likes the old cries better than the new ones introduced in X/Y?
|
Pokéblocks. They turned a very fun thing into something so lifeless and dull. :( In Pokémon Pearl, when my siblings had the file, I'd always use all of their berries on making seriously crappy poffins! ^_^ I wish it was the same in ORAS ):<
Contests. The 3DS camera is nowhere near good enough for this. You're just playing against a pitch black background when you're in the Sun Room. XD Graininess. It was pretty darn grainy. Ravished Ravaged Path, for example. D: Not as bad as X/Y but I dunno, it was pretty unappealing. I wish they made it a bit smoother. But it is a seriously amazing game and I think that the faults are pretty darn tiny compared to the sheer awesomeness of the experience. >:^D |
And here's one that I thought of: there are so few trainers in the game that have movesets that rely on TMs and the like. So many trainers only use the level-up moves they have present as if they caught them at that level. Not even Victory Road's trainers have interesting movesets. And nor do the five trainers you can battle daily at the Battle Resort.
Now, I understand that they want to make the games easier, but they just really made a lot of the not important opposition to be pretty weak. I mean, say what you want about XY, at least trainers in those games (especially after the sixth Gym in areas like Frost Cavern) had strong moves on their Pokémon and made them more interesting to battle, for better or for worse (looking at you, Black Belts and Battle Girls). I mean, in the post-game, this one Ace Trainer on Route 111 has a Haxorus with Dragon Dance and Swords Dance...and Dragon Pulse. If that doesn't explain how lazy they got with trainers, I don't know what does. |
Well, to be honest like SoulSilver/HeartGold they only had dared to changed things that does not warp the timeline or story of original games. For example, the expanded PokeDex for both Trainers and Gym Leaders alike, or how Mega/Primal Evolution was introduced, etc.~
Yes, added storyline on how Kyogre/Groudon can Primal evolve is quite big and or even the addition of Delta Episode, but the story of them*OR/AS* just ends up similar to the original games just with more elaboration, much like so on TyranitarTube's reply video about DLC. The addition and implementation of some of the said changes is to attract new players as usual and or also as an added incentive to older players. For example reintroduction of other region Pokemon and Mega Stones after Cave of Origin arc. While some added changes like numerous legends from other regions is there to support a new added storyline; this time a whole game added with extra legends just to suit the story of the Hoopa. And or to exapand/elaborate on storylines from the original games; an example of this, we finally knew why Steven had to go off. But one can even argue that Mirage Island and Mirage Tower's story is also being elaborated through this. Adding features only visible in Pokemon Emerald at that time, which has deep relations with R/S will be quite confusing since Pokemon works in a timeline. The changes viewed in HG/SS such as PokeAthlon or two regions in one game was quite big, but it did not change or warp the story orginals. Instead we get elaborations on some storylines such as where did Giovanni left to, etc. Plus, some can even argue that one other reason for Battle Frontier not showing is that in the original Emerald, your first meeting with Brandon mentions of him just coming back from a journey, so going by timeline of the game, R/S timeline is still when he is still out on a journey. To complain lack of Overworld Pokemon is a bit aloof sounding since there are more Overworld pokemon in OR/AS than in the original games. If you properly checked, you should know there is a Lvl. 200+ Zigzagoon in the game, which you did not mention. The concept of Legendary is to attract people. IT DOES suit the story since the person plays as the protagonist of that world. As far as the game is concerned, each game is a copy of the same universe/world, communication between trainers is also seen this way since PC operators in the game; Lanette on the original game *R/S/E* stresses on how technology is improving that Pokemon can now travel in space/time through PC. Going by your idea more Pokemon players will cheat and or quit since not everyone will be good enough to win titles. The difficulty is to soothe larger population of new players, that is 15 and below, you may not find it difficult since you have learned from past games, but each game always tries to target new players, therefore they have to make it just right for them. Gym Leader badges is there to make it not too easy since an over leveled Pokemon will not follow its trainer. And more prominent characters or more powerful trainers always uses potion of all sorts, being limited at 2 mostly. The way you put your criticisms only target experienced players. Does a new player/intermediate player even have that much gold even by the time of Pokemon League? Or even that such high leveled Pokemon? The truth is their Pokemon will likely be under-leveled exactly why experienced Pokemon streamers usually tell their viewers and also guide books tell players what's the optimum levels Pokemon should be to successfully defeat a gym. If you are knowledgeable on this, you will realise that a level cap of 10 levels is there for the first gym Roxanne which has pokemon of Lvl 13, etc. going above this will mean you Pokemon will not follow you anymore. However, I do have an issue about AI being stubborn on not switching. And I do agree that having a 'Challenge Mode' like Pokemon B/W2 would be awesome. But for people complaining about how raising Pokemon became easier, EXP. SHARE CAN BE SWITCHED OFF. If anyone have a view on why Japan mostly have all events I'll happily address it by copy and pasting one of my comments in another thread. |
