Are you serious?

Here post your are you serious moments. (or alternatively WTF moments)

I got to the contest stage yesterday only to discover that pokeblocks are made automatically now. seriously? It was one of my favourite things to do in the old ruby/sapphire :(.

also mauveville......

Migit78 November 30th, 2014 3:46 AM

My biggest annoyance in the game has been mentioned numerous times on this site already. But I'll bite and repeat them.

1. No saving between Rayquaza and Deoxys. With a battle and multiple cut scenes. Was so frustrating.
2. [email protected] megas look terrible compared to there original versions.

As I never played the original (played parts on emulators) I quite enjoyed Mauville. It broke up the norm for the Pokemon world which doesn't really ever happen. Game Freak can be a little stagnet with their ideas.

Still plenty of this game for me to explore as I've just done the main quest line.
Haven't tried contests, battle island, soar, secret hideout and who knows what other features of the game so I'm sure more will show up

Candy November 30th, 2014 3:52 AM

#1 Feebas is made easier to find.

Sorry folks, but I'd like a challenge to get my Feebas, especially since I had one back at Sapphire, as well as back at Pearl, and both I caught by searching for Feebas tiles. It makes me happier to brag that I caught them myself.

#2 Ash collecting

OH GOD I JUST WANT THEM GLASS FURNITURE AND HOW LONG MUST I WALK THROUGH THE ASH JUST TO OBTAIN THEM?!

Plus the originals makes the amount quite clear, it's pretty much randomized right now. :/

morrison November 30th, 2014 4:13 AM

oh dear no clear glass furniture guidelines? oo.O

It's more to:

Originals: Hey, you need like # steps left.
ORAS: Hey, you need like # grams left.

And here I'm left confused as to how many times I have to go through the volcanic ash just to reach that amount.

Altius November 30th, 2014 4:37 AM

2 moments from me...

The flute maker no longer says "huff puff" but rather "klink klink". It really pisses me to be honest, and I don't know why.

Latias suddenly appearing in front of you and Steven. Lol what.

Pendraflare November 30th, 2014 2:43 PM

I think they changed the "huff puff" to "klink klink" as they thought something smoke related might have not been very kid-friendly.

But I think i'll give mention to how sweet it is that late in the game you're able to Fly on [email protected] without needing the HM.

edit: Whoa wait, are we talking about bad things about the game? But in that case, if I had to choose, the fact that Professor Birch is stupid enough to be chased by wild Pokémon a whopping four times in total, and not learn from his mistakes. =P

Alfieri November 30th, 2014 2:46 PM

The easier method of making Pokeblocks and catching Feebas are a major godsend, you folks are crazy. >.>

I don't see the point of giving yourself unnecessary stress over a Pokemon just for bragging rights, or having to constantly time buttons or swirl around in circles with your stylus just to get a good Pokeblock/Poffin.

Lilycove November 30th, 2014 2:50 PM

[email protected] megas.......

ptisnjunk95 November 30th, 2014 4:21 PM

After my Gallade KO Wally's Mega Gallade, he offers me a Dawn Stone and... "If you have a male Kirlia as one of your partners, I hope you use it on..." Really? o.O

Shut up, my Milotics are my precious babies. I have the rights to brag about them, especially back at the DPPt era. Not to mention I've managed to catch a shiny one at Mt. Coronet, though a guy, but still worth bragging rights. :v

But yeah, the easier method of Pokeblock-making is a godsend, cause I'm quite terrible at it.

Another thing is the amount of teleportations May and Wally made. Especially Wally and Route 118. Can't I just surf through the south and train with the swimmers there?

destinedjagold November 30th, 2014 11:38 PM

I was fine with Latias suddenly appearing in front of Steven and I, but I was "are you serious" when Latios "joined" me. -,-
As much as I like the [email protected], getting one that easy and early was so "wtf" for me.

Latios went straight to the PC. :/

Chalifoux November 30th, 2014 11:49 PM

For me? Well, I just finished fighting Steven at the League for the first time, and I had set my mind to win in a most epic manner by using Final Gambit on his already badly poisoned Mega Metagross with my Staraptor. But it still had near-full HP, so I decided to switch into my Cofagrigus, thinking Hex would damage it just about enough to leave it in yellow, all ready and set to be annihilated by Staraptor.

But what do you know, Hex murders the thing, and it took its HP bar a little bit less than 2 seconds to reach zero. It was incredibly anticlimactic (for a second there I actually thought his Metagross was made of glass).

If you want to know why Hex "murdered" that Metagross, it's due to the Steel-type losing its weaknesses to Dark and Ghost in 6th Gen, so yeah it actually gained new weaknesses as a result of that.

YellowTemperance December 1st, 2014 4:17 AM

Can I vent a moment and say I'm not very pleased with the fact I have to do Contests to get AS' Lucarionite? There's only one thing I really wanted from the Contests, and that's Cosplay Pikachu. I don't like that I have to port over my Lucarionite from X to AS just so I can consider myself relatively complete on my Mega Stone checklist.

I'm not as bummed about the Garchompite, however. That's tied to a feature I actually like.

Hikamaru December 1st, 2014 6:39 AM

I may not have played the games yet, but I can still leave my "are you serious" moment and well, it's an interesting one.

The tall grass on Route 119 and 120 (it's very notorious in the former route) looks even more concealing now compared to the originals (and I always thought how it was bad in Emerald thanks to your character wearing green in their clothes), but in general the design of the tall grass in 6th Gen is much taller-looking than previous generations. This Tumblr post pretty much sums it up.

It also kinda bugs me how they've now changed Routes 118, 121 and 123 (and the Safari Zone) to have tall grass, given they didn't look that way in the originals. Game Freak shouldn't change grass patches entirely, because the last two remakes never did that.

Creator Limbs December 1st, 2014 12:06 PM

Nothing really bothers me about the remake.

Like, everything I hated about the originals was changed and/or made better.

Oryx December 1st, 2014 12:17 PM

You can't pick words from a list anymore for things and can type in whatever you want. One of my great joys was coming up with ridiculous things based on the word lists. People might think that more customization is better but I preferred it the old way. :(

CuteLittleBlack December 1st, 2014 1:35 PM

What bothers me most is suddenly we can ride our bikes into the tall grass.. That wasn't possible in the previous games and it annoys me.. Also the [email protected] megas look terrible..

blue December 1st, 2014 2:28 PM

No complaints about the games so far, still trying to adjust to Mauville though..

Apparently it was a change implemented in 6th Gen as a whole, not just OR/AS. I never tried riding the bicycle into tall grass but I imagine how weird it looks. Kinda defeats the purpose it originally served... which was blocking bicycles in the first place.

CuteLittleBlack December 2nd, 2014 1:24 AM

Oh yeah, also the music in Slateport reminds me of christmas songs :P Anyone else noticed that too?

Origin Green December 2nd, 2014 4:50 AM

SPOILERS

Not being able to save before catching Deoxys!

Azu December 2nd, 2014 4:53 AM

#1. I knew the cave to give the letter to Steve by heart. Sadly, they changed it into an easy stroll to get to Steve.

#2. Mauville confuses the heck out of me.

[Haven't continues yet, so I'll take the time to add some other points later.]

ΩRαS December 2nd, 2014 4:56 AM

Since I refrained from knowing anything about these games until I got to experience it for myself, my 'WTF?' moments so far are..

• Mauville City - When I arrived I was amazed with how drastic this was changed and also confused getting around (still have that problem).
• That either Latios or Latias just join your team rather than having to battle them.
• That my Rival May (Brendan) hasn't been a challenge at all so far, her Pokémon are always below mine even when I haven't used the Exp. Share since turning it off in Rustboro City!

MarinoKadame December 2nd, 2014 6:05 AM

I battled Brendan with his pokes being 2 or 3 more level than me and he was still not that hard.

Oh just wait until the end of the game (which is my annoying moment):

Spoiler:

May/Brendan's Pokemon are EXTREMELY underleveled. Like, level 48-50. YOU JUST FOUGHT PEOPLE WHO'S POKEMON WERE WAAAAY STRONGER THAN THIS! I want a challenge from them, not a ****** last battle!

That's the one part of the game that I just wanted to beat my head in over.

I finally know how the ORAS mechanics work.

Walking/cycling on grass does NOT collect any ash! You have to go through the stacks on the ground (the piles where some ninjas are hiding) to collect ash. Each stack will give you about 5 -20 grams.

It's silly to be honest. I prefer the original mechanics a lot more.

The new ash mechanics downright suck. I liked just simply walking through the grass in the original games because you collected ash much faster that way. Seriously Game Freak did you really have to make it harder to collect now?

I couldn't seem to find that one kid who makes the ashes-eyelashes pun on Route 113.

Edit: I guess I haven't been to the new Route 113 enough; he's between the secret base spot and the glass maker's house. He used to be below and to the left of the house, shortly before the tilled fields.

Yeah it's weird, but we also reverted back to Psychics being male-only this generation as well. In fact, Hex Maniacs are now viewed as the female equivalent to Psychics if X/Y was anything to go by.

cmtthws92 December 2nd, 2014 6:11 PM

For me, it's making Pokeblocks. I spent a lot of time in the contests in the originals. Watering it down like that kinda turned me off.

Also what about the overabundance of legendaries? Legendaries are suppose to be special and challenging to catch, not normalized and easy to catch. I didn't mind about the free Latias on Southern Island though. Remember the time they gave away a level 100 Arceus on the Wi-Fi Mystery gift feature (which I still have)? I considered it like that.

curiousnathan December 2nd, 2014 6:43 PM

Having Latios/Latias simply join your team rather than you having to battle and catch them really ticked me off.

BUT I have to say I'm loving the Gym Leaders -- Flannery and Norman crushed me multiple times - they have seriously been a challenge.

Bounsweet December 2nd, 2014 8:06 PM

Contests as a whole have me going "serious?" tbh. No limit to feeding PokéBlocks, they're made automatically now, and once Master rank is unlocked, it's unlocked for all of your Pokémon. Like, what is even the point of making it this easy. I have like 3 Pokémon with a Contest Star (beat all 5 Master Rank categories) ribbon, or on their way to earning one... :\

Also the way that you collect soot is kinda wtf, I used to go through so many Max Repels going back and forth on that volcanic ash route, now they're just random piles spread across the route? Pretty lame...

That actually made me happy.

I'm kind of ticked off that Altaria and Dusclops aren't available in the wild and you have to evolve their previous forms to get them. I used to love searching the Sky Pillar for Altaria.

IAmTheDippy December 3rd, 2014 1:49 PM

Mine would be seriously underestimating the Elite 4 on the second run. I remember easily wiping the floor with them on the original using Rayquaza and a few others. I didn't expect them to be on a level playing field this time. I only wanted Deoxys! Haha, another one was probably to be expected; after 35 or so tries, I finally caught Deoxys with a quick ball.

Starry Windy December 4th, 2014 12:07 AM

The fact that I'm unable to slice and dice the grasses in Hoenn nowadays. That's weird, considering I was able to do such when I was playing the original RSE.

This is one of the problems with Pokemon going fully 3D. The Master Rank Contest winner paintings aren't as pretty as they used to be. Such a letdown especially when compared to the original versions, where I had a prized Roselia who looked so beautiful (well she did win the Master Rank Beauty Contest hahahaha) on that rainbow background.

I really enjoyed cutting the grass down since it gave us another reason to use Cut other than on small bushes, but then this feature got removed in 4th Gen and never returned since. Now I know that I'm definitely not going to be enjoying the now 5 routes with the tall grass (Routes 118-121 and 123, along with the Safari Zone) because a lot of the tall grass is bunched together at once (Route 119 being the worst offender here, 120 does come close though) and it'll be very hard to see where you're going because in 6th Gen it looks like the grass is fully concealing you.

Game Freak should not have removed this feature in the first place back in the days of Diamond & Pearl.

classiccartoonsftw December 4th, 2014 10:54 AM

I was surprised by the new Granite Cave. I thought you had to traverse through the deeper parts of the cave to get to Steven, just like in RSE. But instead, it turned out that you could reach Steven almost instantly after defeating Brawly, and you couldn't get in the deeper parts until you got a bike.

Xela December 4th, 2014 11:32 AM

The new Granite Cave was a shocker to me. I was fully prepared and everything to go through a dark cavern and face trainers, only to meet up with a simple walk to the cave painting. Kinda disappointed, to be honest.

The other thing that made me go "WTF" was how they renovated Mauville City. I was so confused on where to go and I was stuck there for an hour or so. I really do not have the best navigation skills.

Oh and the last thing that I was disappointed with was the removal of the Berry Blender. I was hoping we'd be able to do that with friends online. :c

I'd wager the removal of grass-cutting is because LoZ complained of features in the 4th gen games and onwards. The Pokeradar was around in DPPt, we had shaking grass spots in 5th gen (you'd have to code something extra if you tried cutting grass when Audino's dancing about in it), and XY had the Pokeradar again. And ORAS had the DexNav as well.

Agreed, and already posted as such elsewhere. At least you can go back later and explore it, but I wanted the challenge of the place, and catch an Aron and Sableye earlier than that too.

Didn't like Wally's forced teleportation after beating the 5th gym; I wanted to use Surf in Petalburg for those items, darn it! Still needing rock smash to go north of Mauville is annoying, your rival is still too happy and present-giving for my liking thus far, and I miss the berry mixing minigame. =(

Hika stop editting your post I got 3 notifications for it haha.

Those paintings are one of the reasons I keep replaying the same contest with the same Pokemon in hopes of getting them displayed in the museum.

And we had a similar thing happen with shiny Lapras in X/Y... it never showed up as shiny in the overworld. I guess they didn't want to waste more space by doing a simple recolor of the model.

Tsutarja December 4th, 2014 5:07 PM

When I first arrived at Mauville City, I was flabbergasted. I kinda wish they kept it the way it was from RSE, but I like it.

Altairis December 5th, 2014 11:56 AM

THE BERRY BLENDER. Wow I didn't even remember it until now. That is really disappointing, I wanted to play with my brother ;_; Maybe they removed it because they didn't just want to make it a local-only thing, and maybe making it a wifi-connection activity would be too difficult? Not entirely sure. I guess we'll just have to use our older RSE copies to blend berries together ;;

Death December 7th, 2014 12:27 AM

Just really random, but I'm currently trying to get Mr. Gates, my sableye, to win all the master rank contests. I'm starting with Clever contest first and noticed that even if Mr. Gates has never entered the Cuteness Contest, all ranks were available. So, for the fun of it, I selected the Cuteness contest fully expecting the lady to tell me that I need to win the contests before entering the Master Rank.

I was surprised when she told me my entry was accepted.

Even more so, when I won with not a single cute move on Mr. Gates.

Mr. Gates and I am really confused as to how this happened, but, hey, a ribbon is a ribbon.

Interviewer's note: In short he means that they didn't include the BF because only a very small part of the players would have fully appreciated and made use of this feature; nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging.

Ok 3 more since i am farther in the storyline
Granite caves mural i mean in the originals i was like there has to be more to this place its gotta be significant well apparently GF thought so too.
Were is the berry blender?!?!? Why no berry blender i dont want an automatic i wanna play the game that is ultra frustrating bothersome yet fun!
Also battle frontier i am mad at but hey i cant really be mad a out it when theyre not even supposed to be in RS but when they make an emerald remake and they dont make a battle frontier thatll be the last straw GF! Lol

SilverRot December 7th, 2014 6:10 PM

Mine was when I realized the background for the beauty/other contests is from your cam.
I kinda freaked out, cause I painted an airplane on my wall last year, and... Suddenly there is an airplane in the contest. I was like.
:O Why do they know this about me?!

And here's one that wasn't mentioned yet, remember how some Ninja Boys disguised themselves as trees and then surprised you for a battle? In OR/AS, it seems like they no longer jump out of the disguise aka they now battle you while still hiding, as I discovered in a video from an Alpha Sapphire LP by YouTube user MunchingOrange. That is just so disappointing.

Yep, you gotta go up and talk to them now.

Also I don't know if it's a bit of dialogue I missed but sometimes when I'm pretty positive I battled somebody, I can come back a few minutes later and battle them again slightly stronger?

Seems like an easy way to farm EXP and money.

Edit: This is incredibly minor, but also how premature Brendan looks. I know they're supposed to be like, 12, but he looks nine, and May looks at least 13. Every time I see him it just bothers me.

MarinoKadame December 7th, 2014 9:57 PM

It's almost the same BS reason he give about no customisation because the game was about Adventure. Battle Maison is even more boring than Battle Frontier if he thinks Battle Frontier was boring.

Candy December 7th, 2014 10:05 PM

What?! Game Freak how could you?!

Pretty sure the older fanbase would love the challenge instead. It's way better than the Tower, the Subway or the Maison combined due to the added gimmicks, like the Factory's rental Pokemon or the Pyramid's exploration with a tiny bag to boot. I'd challenge the Frontier any time than a lame old Maison.

MarinoKadame December 7th, 2014 10:45 PM

And they could of added an Inverse Battle facility in it instead of the Mauville once a day one.

The only ones I liked were Dome and Tower and they just so happen to be nearly identical gameplay-wise to Maison, so there's that.

Nah December 8th, 2014 5:29 AM

Not gonna lie, I've never really cared for most of the battle facilities in the Frontiers; Battle Masion/Subway/Tower is enough for me. I suppose that I just like plain old battles without these fancy-shmancy gimmicks.

But not including the Battle Frontier in ORAS because you think that not enough people like it or you think that too many people find it "too hard" is a really stupid reason. Because clearly there's a lot of people that DO like it.

I REALLY do not understand why Game Freak is so ****ing inconsistent with including good features in their games....

Yep, the Trainers' Eyes was made far more convenient here than it was in the original games. There, not only was it unlikely that a specific trainer would want to rematch you, but early on if you hadn't battled them several times their levels would probably still be rather low. Here, trainers are much more likely to want to battle you again quickly, and their levels depend on your point in the game, which is indeed good for farming.

morrison December 8th, 2014 8:10 AM

also the first time i turned down the option to follow may or wally in game. i didnt second time and was wondering why. so much grinding undone as there was literally no reason to actually go into the desert. getting latios at lv 30 just out of the blue is a bit weird too.

the contest are way too easy atm too. i got master at first attempt.

I do lke the little more story mode with wally and may.

Sebastian_Sommer December 8th, 2014 8:52 AM

Not exactly a WTF moment but more of a minor 'are you serious' moment. While I was exploring Team magma's hideout for the stolen submarine, I learned from a random grunt in the archive room that Team leader Maxie and Archie were originally comrades from another organization. Now THAT sounded interesting, it's a shame that it's not mentioned again....

Edit: whoops, I mean the female grunt in the kitchen near the room with the beds

I don't even think that's the actual reason they didn't include it. They only had one year to work on the game, so maybe they just didn't have enough time to add a feature as massive as the Battle Frontier. GF for some reason likes to give weird explanations about why they remove certain features (see: character customization).

KamikazeSSoH December 8th, 2014 11:36 AM

This is not the Remake that i wanted it. its so bad.
Its so bad that 2 days in i beat the game and i was like. ''Oh Well'' and played the original
Ruby and after i beat the game i was like''That was great'' Theres a lot to complain. but i think they are making the new games more easy.
and the only good thing i loved it. it is. the comeback of white haiir up on this beeeatchhh"!!!!! <3

WishCookie December 8th, 2014 12:31 PM

One ''are you serious?'' moment I am able to come up with is Mauville City's design...I miss the old one. It took me 20 minutes to even get used to the design. I had such a hard time finding the bikeshop and where to exit.

Personally, I'd rather dumb fun luck than the BS hax luck that Maison is full of. There's a place for both, and they're an appreciated refresher from the Maison, which gets repetitive and tedious.

Pepperton December 8th, 2014 4:17 PM

An "Are You Serious?" moment on the positive side would be me defeating Wattson with an Aron and a Grovyle. xD

bobandbill December 8th, 2014 4:24 PM

A key point that the BF has over the Maison is variety. Rental battles among other modes mix things up and offer different challenges. Maison only offers singles/doubles/triples (iirc), and the option of playing with another person or an AI controlled character with that. That's not much variety.

This was something I was rather turned off by. The Unova games and XY were often stopping you and pointing you in the direction of the plot, but at least they weren't basically trying to zip you through without letting you check out the optional areas what there was to offer. ORAS having parts that teleport you makes it feel like they just want to get you through the game as quickly as possible, as opposed to actually exploring the region, which felt jarring.

And I didn't like that you are instantly given the Latios/Latias without a chance to say no, I didn't want to take it right away and I was right to worry about that because I got the one thing I would rather have had anything else than: an Adamant nature. Boo.

Lol that's the worst. Mine was Lonely. Sadly went straight into the box.

You can talk to steven, and he'll let you leave and come back later
...I left, bred some ralts for synch, and came back.

I actually ran into something mentioning how Synchronize works 100 percent on the Lati, so I left and got my Modest Kirlia from the box (yup I was lucky to already have one ready). The biggest issue was getting the right Iv's. I know it has 31 on Special attack. I think it has 31 on it's defenses too.

Anyways the removal of the berry blender was annoying. I spent 15 minutes talking to people to see if anyone in game knew where the darn Berry Blender was...only to find out that they removed it. Grr, now that I know why that and the Frontier were taken away I'm seriously made at GF now!

I think the reason behind the removal of the Berry Blender and why Pokeblocks are automatically made at any time now, is because some people don't have a lot of time these days and Game Freak felt they needed an anti-frustration method for making Pokeblocks.

Anti-frustration methods ruining features people loved is something we all have to deal with in future games I'm afraid.

bobandbill December 9th, 2014 7:08 PM

Idk how accurate or valid a reason that is, but if you have time to beat a Pokemon game, then you have time to play a minigame to make Pokeblocks. =p

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire December 10th, 2014 7:56 AM

@BB Ikr?

Another think I was surprised about what when I wanted to see how Rayquazanite looked...only to see my Rayquaza was holding nothing...I then realized the implications of a Mega that can still use an item...

Why did you think Smogon banned Mega-Rayquaza from Ubers? :/

Let me just place another wtf moment when I learned that a certain event Pokemon is no longer event-exclusive.

KostK2Boss December 10th, 2014 12:23 PM

Here's one I discovered just today. I'm putting it in the spoiler for those who haven't beaten the games yet:
Spoiler:

The music that plays for the Raikou/Entei/Suicune battle is the exact same as in Crystal. As in, they play the original 8-bit song during the battle. I don't care how lazy you might think this is, I still love it!

Valkyrie Heart December 10th, 2014 12:51 PM

Am.. Am I the only one who thinks they made the credits like 5 times longer? o.o I swear, waiting for them to end was annoying. xD

Edit: Aaand the Safari Zone. The pokemon in there used to be cool. D: I get that it is free now, but..

And why did Japan get to have a shiny Jirachi event and we didn't. </3

Pendraflare December 10th, 2014 1:09 PM

^ In BW and XY you had to sit through the credits first time, and here in ORAS they made them very well detailed, using flashbacks from your adventure, such as what you used against the aces of every Gym Leader, the villainous teams and the Champion. And it stays in every future time you beat the league, unlike with B2W2 where you only saw the pictures first time.

And maybe America will get the Jirachi event, it's a longshot to hope for but it can happen.

Spinosaurus December 10th, 2014 1:18 PM

The credits made me realize I used Ninjask way more than I thought

Like even in the non-battle flashback it was always...there. I have no idea why. Hilarious.

That's the thing, I know they made them very detailed, but I wish you could at least skip over parts. Or, keep it as showing all those scenes only once. The option to see all of those details should be there, but that is what they should be- options. xD

Yeah, I am holding on for a Jirachi event. D: America needs Jirachi!

morrison December 10th, 2014 10:58 PM

Yes they have a beat it up machine for the secret base that is usable and a berry blender but that is just decoration. Also the new berryblender has only 1 mix. rainbow. no way to do brown or purple blocks :(

Let me just say that my Skitty/Delcatty, despite being with me for the entire trip, never appeared in the credits 'til the end when I defeated Steven's Metagross. I find that funny as well.

It was also a joyful wtf moment when I managed to knock out that MegaGross with Delcatty as well. Everyone else fainted, and for some reason the weakest member of my party ended up being victorious against it.
