Groudon or Kyogre?
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140128204723/pokemon/images/2/20/Groudon_XY.gif http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20140131075330/pokemon/images/7/75/Kyogre_XY.gif The mascots of Ruby/Sapphire and their re-makes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, are Groudon, the titan of the land, and Kyogre, the titan of the sea. They also got new Primal forms, letting them show off their full power. Which one do you like better, and why? |
Oh, this is a close one, but I'll have to say Kyogre. I really like both of them, but because of the fact that I own Sapphire and Alpha Sapphire, and Kyogre was once a member of my Ubers team on Black 2, Kyogre gets the nod. I can't choose design-wise, and they are very equal.
|
Now, I like Kyogre, because its design is just awesome (A legendary orca whale that created the seas? Sign me up!), but I'm afraid Rayquaza gets my take-a-third-option vote here. He's just so majestic and powerful, especially his shiny form.
|
Personally, I prefer Groudon.
Call me sensitive, but in my original playthrough of Emerald, when I saw the outerworld sprites of the Grou/Kyo fight, seeing Groudon on the tiny little island made me so sad. It looked like Kyogre was just a bully for the most part. Above all, Rayquaza remains the king of Hoenn though. |
Groudon gets my vote I know a lot of people choose kyogre coz of the typing but I love groudon he looks more scary even in his primal form and in love with his new move
|
Why is a lame green eastern dragon and a lame orca wannabe with huge fins winning over a RED DINOSAUR LOBSTER HYBRID THAT LIVES IN VOLCANOES
Primal Groudon, mother****ers http://cdn2.scratch.mit.edu/get_image/gallery/533004_170x100.png?v=1411043709.72 |
When it comes to Groudon and Kyogre, I have always been a fan of Kyogre. So my vote goes to Kyogre. Plus it looks very awesome.
|
I've always liked Groudon more, as the land titan concept is more interesting to me than a radically designed orca. Not that Kyogre is badly designed, but I just find using Groudon more fun, especially since its primal form makes it even more deadly.
|
I would've chosen Kyogre if it weren't for the Ray-ray option in the poll.
It's more to a type preference than anything. Also, Kyogre has an overworld surfing sprite. Groudon doesn't have anything simillar to that. |
Honestly i love rayquaza but in my opinion id choose Kyogre over groudon
1 more powrful 2 type preference 3 better sprite :) |
Although for looks I like Rayquaza best, I just love Kyogre. (Is definitely not influenced by owning sapphire as first Pokemon game or alpha sapphire)
|
I've always leaned towards Kyorge. Hello mythical whale!!!
Also I've always found it kind of cute in a way and I guess graceful. |
I've always liked the three members of the Weather Trio pretty equally in the past. Usually I decide on which game I'm getting based on the mascot legendary, but since I didn't exactly favor one over the other, I went with Alpha Sapphire since I have Ruby. And riding on Kyogre is fun (though not that smooth underwater because Game Freak forgot to make things a little bigger so Kyogre can fit through).
But, I gave my vote to Groudon in this poll.....BECAUSE HOLY **** THAT PRIMAL FORM IS AWESOME. Been using Primal Groudon on Showdown and it is fantastic. Can't wait to transfer my Groudon to ORAS, give it the Red Orb, and start wreckin' ****! |
For me it's Groudon not only did I play Ruby/Omega Ruby but in my opinion its design and primal form look far better than that of Kyogre's, not to mention it just likes to chill in burning lava! I transferred my Adamant EV trained (Flawless) Groudon to Hoenn and with that Red Orb everything is getting #rekt!
I wouldn't however back Primal Groudon to win against Primal Kyogre after gaining that dual Ground/Fire typing unless Groudon managed to hit with a "lucky" Solarbeam or something.. I've been educated, not a good Pokémon trainer when I don't even know my own Pokémon's ability.. |
I voted Kyogre, since its Primal design looks better than Groudon's (Groudon looks kinda off-colored) and I do love Water-types, and will probably be playing Alpha Sapphire as my main version this time around as opposed to Ruby in the original games. And Kyogre gets its own model when you use Surf as well, and I definitely want to ride on that big blue thing.
However, both Precipice Blades and Origin Pulse are cool-looking moves on their own. |
I've always liked Groudon more, in fact since the originals.
But Mega Rayquaza is just... unrivalled. |

It really depends on who wins this weather war, though. EDIT: beaten |
Now this is a total toughie!
I love Kyogre but Groudon is totally BadAsh Then end of the day as he say Ray Ray owns the day! Remembering the cheesey grace music as Rayquaza descended to stop the two pokemons loving quarrel ah good times So rayquaza wins for me. Although PERSONALLY I am not a fan of his Mega form. |
Kyogre. My fav legendary design. Groudon is just another cool looking dinosaur/dragon looking thing but Kyogre is a blue killer whale....and its black shiny is amazing.
|
As a fan of Water Pokemon (And no, I'm not Misty XD) I prefer Kyogre. And after Articuno (Ice counts as frozen water?)it's my favourite legendary. When I was a child, I hated Fire types, so I would have hated Groudon now because of that, now it's OK
|

I got Alpha Sapphire for Thundurus, and am having some serious buyer's remorse. Groudon is terrifying on the field - Kyogre falls to a Thunderbolt from half the pokes on my rotation. |
I prefer Rayquaza way over anything else. But I go for Kyogre since it's Kyogre vs Groudon. I think its design is better than Groudon who just looks like a beefed up Barney to me. I do prefer reptiles over whales/aquatic life but Groudon just isn't for me. I always disliked him since Mystery Dungeon and he was being mean.
Also because Kyogre is blue and I love blue. |

|
I voted for both because I don't really have a preference, honestly. I say I like Kyogre better sometimes but that's really because I like blue and Sapphire was my first Pokemon game. I like both of their designs and their glowing Primal forms look sick. However, I meant to vote for the last option because I really do love Rayquaza a lot more!

Godzilla with the power to make entire continents.
Or Orca. Not much competition there. I like rayquaza more than both, but voted for groudon, to answer the actual question. Kyogre's primal form just can't keep up with groudon's now that he only has a ground weakness. |
Definitely the best pair of mascots for any pair of Pokemon games IMO. My favourite legendary has always been Kyogre though since playing Sapphire.
|
Groudon for looks and Kyogre for usefulness and sheer power.
That said, I almost always go for looks, so I voted for Groudon. Come on, look at it, it looks so threatening. Kyogre looks like a derpy whale or, depending on the angle, a giant man boob with wings..XD |
DEFINITELY Groudon over Kyogre!! I find a spotted whale slightly more boring then a massive titan Pokemon that can heat up the world until it's like an overdone piece of popcorn.
What can Kyogre do? Drown everything? Being crisped is more scary then drowning. But I prefer Rayquaza to them both. Even though it's Mega-thingy is like Alakazam's old pal from the bingo club, I like it's Oriental design and I always found it was one of the more forgotten legendaries, making it even more interesting! :D |
As much as I love Groudon, I'd have to say that Rayquaza and its mega form take the cake, IMO.
|
I really love both Legendaries and Gen 3 is one of my favourite generations, but I mean come on your asking me to choose Willy or Godzilla basically.
Ground on can destroy anything and now that his Primal is resistant to water he is a monster. Yes I did buy AS first but that is because I prefer Aqua to Magma. However when I pick up Ruby you can bet that Groudon will be a mainstay in my team. |
Grou-wow is clearly cooler, but Kyogie is typically better in battle. Though the new abilities change that.
Gordon was lv.99 in my Ruby 12 years ago. |
Well, when I was younger I was immediately drawn to Groudon, although my preferences have shifted over to Kyogre...for one thing, it has nicer plushies. Groudon plushies look horribly squashed and deformed. For two, I've always found it more useful. I guess the new abilities change that, but I don't play competitively, so it doesn't make much difference to me.
I prefer the rain to the sun anyway, that probably has something to do with it as well. Groudon brings with it weather I can't stand. But in terms of design I think they're about equal. As version mascots go, I'd say they're better than Reshiram/Zekrom and Xerneas/Yveltal, but not as cool as Dialga/Palkia. |
Groudon for me. It just seems more unique to me than Kyogre, which kinda reminds me of a whale.
|
Sapphire was the first Pokémon game of the 3rd generation that I played and thus I am heavily biased towards Kyogre, but I do really like Groudon's appearance as well.
|
Initially, I wanted Kyogre back in RSE days. I never had the chance to play Sapphire so I got sick of Groudon, and wanted a Kyorgre. But now, I'm more for Groudon because of OR and its Primal form.
|
I like them both, it's all on the person as well.
|
Groudon and Primal Groudon. I love the oozing lava monster look more then the see-through orca. Not to mention primal groudon gets rid of the moobs.
|
Kyogre is superior in EVERY way. I love its design too. Groudon is quite the cool legendary as well though, definitely not bad. Just not as amazing as Kyogre.
|
I voted both! Kind of surprising how there were only three others before me who didn't want to pick between the two.
Kyogre is dear to my heart since Sapphire was my first version and I trained it a lot as a kid. It was very bulky and fun to use, especially in secret base teams when I mixed records with a friend constantly to get our data over in each other's games. I'll always prefer it design-wise. Groudon has really redeemed itself in ORAS though, with its awesome ability and overall design in primal reversion. It's really creepy to boot so I just.. want to love both and will love both. Such awesome mascots. |
While Kyogre has never been my favorite legendary, I've always had a bit of a "that's one cool ass fish" mentality about it lol. I hold it high respects as Sapphire Version is probably one of my most nostalgic Pokémon games lmao
|
Quote:
You are not going to choose the blue fat whale instead of the cool lava dino xD |
I'll have to say, KYOGRE, THE BEAST OF OCEANS, THE RAGING KING, Sorry Groudon, even though your just a Ground type, you're not loveable to me, and Kyogre has a wonderful design, and it's primal form is just incredible, let KYOGRE RISE! LEVEL 100 KYOGRES!
|
I love them both, which is rare for me in terms of legendaries. And I love both of their new primal forms too equally. If I had to choose, I guess I would pick Kyogre. Idk, its a hard decision for me lmao.
|
I love both Rayquaza and Kyogre. Now that Rayquaza has a mega, it's even more awesome than it had been in the past. Above all, it's my absolute favorite legendary.
|
Groudon for me since I don't like the color blue... so even though I like Kyogre's design better - but since it's blue I always tend to say I like Groudon better.
|
Groudon, man. Kyogre's still cool and I have nothing against them, but Ruby was the first pokemon game I really had to myself (my brother and I also shared a copy for Crystal for a while), and I generally just prefer Fire types to Water. His design is also just a lot better, imo.
|
Kyogre usually stomps Groudon flat because of typing. Groudon was giving solar beam with no need for re-charge to help deal with Kyogre, but unfortunately was given Atk>Sp.Atk build so it doesn't really do a lot. If Groudon had also been a special attacker it would have been a total monster!
I like both. I prefer Groudon but admit that Kyogre is factually superior in most regards. |
Groudon because he was my first legendary that i got by myself. :D
|
Kyogre because I love his design in primal form! Because he is a water-type pokémon, he is blue(my favourite colour) and because he is "The titan of the Sea", and I love the sea :)
|
I always thought Kyogre looked cooler. Though it's my bias of Sapphire being my first Pokemon game.
|
Groudon. Because land. Because Magma. Because Fire type.
Look at Primal Groudon once and you'll agree. ;) |
I think a lot of people are mistaking a pokemon being able to beat another specific pokemon as it being better.
Pidgeot can easily dominate blaziken without even mega evolving, but that doesn't make it better overall. |
Groudon for sure. I love it's type and to me I like it's overall look. Along with red being my favorite color.
|
Rayquaza due to its awesome design and its fairly powerful!
|
I've never been particularly fond of this trio. They're not bad, but they're also not great design-wise.
Groudon is flatout ridiculous to me. It's overly bulky and it looks like a cheese grater. I like the coloring, but such a Pokemon was never deserving of a pretty version name like Pokemon Ruby. I personally think they should've been more gemlike, like Palkia and Dialga. It doesn't have majesty - just ferociousness. And I suppose that's fine for being a magmatic land Pokemon, but it's just not my thing. Not saying I hate its design though. I'm just... eh about it. I chose Sapphire my first time around because of Kyogre and Latias being available. Kyogre looked prettier and more artistic. (And it has a more variable Primal form. I prefer its form more.) But then it opened its mouth... and it lost all of that majesty. With its mouth open, Kyogre just looks like a stupid whale. I thought prior to that it just had no mouth, or a tiny mouth. I'd prefer that to be the case. So if I had to pick out of these two, I'd chose Kyogre. (Though I still went with Omega Ruby because I love rubies and the color red. And also, my fiance had to have the blue version.) But I prefer Rayquaza the most out of the two. Though it also suffers from that awesome design with a stupid feature that Kyogre has. Its mouth. With that open, it looks like an old man with his gums out. And it also looks unpleasantly mechanical whilst being fully organic. (Also like Kyogre and Groudon... I just don't like their overall theme aesthetic.) I wish it'd be more feathery or have wings or something, to better make me think of the sky. It is very streamlined, but still. At least its Mega Form is the awesomest by far out of the three. It looks more epic than most legendaries. And that boosts it way up there. Though honestly, I'd have to say I prefer Xerneas and Yveltal to these two. (Or Reshiram/Zekrom.) |
I've always been a Groudon fan since the days of the original Ruby and Sapphire. I like the edgyness of his appearance.
|
I don't really like Kyogre for some reason :p
Don't know why though... |
Quote:
I'm really excited to see Groudon here now. |
Rayquaza gets my vote, due to the fact that its a dragon and dragons are my favorite type. Out of Groudon or Kyogre, I would have to go with Groudon due to it being in my game. I never had the pleasure of having Kyogre on my team.
|
In addition to Groudon being cooler than Kyogre by a long shot, Groudon no longer stays behind Kyogre's shadow now that it has Desolate Land to switch-in.
Oh, and Rayquaza now appeals less than it did before, I don't know why but it certainly isn't because of its new Mega Evolution, it's probably another reason, maybe I'm getting bored of it or something? |
Ray-Ray's where it's at ;D
But to answer the original question, I actually like both. Both of their patterns are stunning and the concepts both intrigue me. I just can't choose between a dinosaur or an orca. D: |
I like Kyoger more cause of its design
|
Obviously, Rayquaza owns the throne (Now with its unique way of Mega Evolution).
In my opinion though, Kyogre is far more appealing than Groudon. 10 of a hundred reasons why Kyogre: - Definitely cuter than Rayquaza and Groudon. - Elegant. Look how it swims. - Can smile at you in the Pokemon-amie enthusiastically. - Shows more signs and marks of Primal Reversion. It's written all over the fins and body. - Blue. It's irresistible. - Lets you ride on its back. (Although only during the chase) - Primordial Sea. Everyone loves rain (Especially when classes are suspended). - Reminds you of the sea and the beach... aaahhhhh... - Cute cries. It's squealing. - Looks like a levitating blue Airbus. Origin Pulse. |

Kyogre...though I voted Rayquaza cause I love that thing. But Kyogre between Kyogre & Groudon. Just cause I had Sapphire originally. Def like Groudon's ability a lot more, but oh well.
|
I like both, but Groudon is my third favorite legendary overall behind Mew and Ho-oh; as well as my second favorite from Hoenn right behind Torchic.
|
I like all three of the legendaries, but I have a liking for water type Pokémon. I can't say anything about Groudon though because I've never caught him/her or used him/her in battle. I like the new designs on all three of the Pokémon-it makes them look even more ancient & powerful than they did in R/S/E. I love love love Rayquaza though, so that's who my vote went to. I just love how he/she looks & his/her moves are great! I just love Rayquaza vv much.
|
Been diggin' Kyogre since 2003. :D
Its screech in the title menu has got to go when I soft reset for shiny Cresselia, though! |
I prefer Kyogre because I'm fond of blue color, and it have excellent design and color, and I liked it even more when it enters Primal form.
|
I prefer Kyogre. Although Groudon is a bit more powerful now thanks to his Primal Reversion, I like Kyogre's theming and aesthetics much better. I don't know what it is about Groudon but he just seems kinda derpy to me. :P
|
I've always loved Groundon so definitely Groundon
|
Groudon, because his Primal Ability cancels out his weakness to water
Kyogre already resists fire-types, which means making them useless is bordering on redundant Plus, Thunder gets 100% accuracy in rain, so good job making it even easier to hit you! Rayquaza has a special place in my heart due to the fact she was my first pokemon I ever got to level 100 Plus, she was the first (and so far, only) Pokémon that I solo'd the Elite Four with Yeah, I give genders to legendary pokemon, sue me... |
Groundon>Kyogre Everywhere !
|
I will say that the Weather Trio is probably the best designed/coolest bunch of legends in any generation of Pokemon games. But Rayquaza is one of the best designed, most powerful. and all-around coolest legendary Pokemon to ever grace this franchise. Then I prefer Groudon, then Kyogre, imo. When it comes to ranking the trio, that is.
|
Out of the three, I love Rayquaza the most. It's really cool and unique. Plus, it stops both of the other two from destroying all living things. xD I also enjoyed it's mega form.
|
This is one of the hardest choices of Pokémon to choose from to me. At times, it just changes really. Usually I'm a Kyogre person, but then I think about the qualities of Groudon. I'm going to have to go with the (un-original) both on this one.
|
Typing-wise? Kyogre. Water's kinda my RL element. Design and gamplay-wise? Groudon. It's always been one of my favourite legendaries because of its simple but effective design and its power and versatility. Gotta love that Drought! Game Freak gave it some love in ORAS with a signature move, new typing and a hideously powerful ability. I gotta say I like Groudon better.
|
Overall it would Rayquaza all the way for me out of the three since even though I never played the original, Destiny Deoxys always had me holding it close to me for a while.
Between Groudon and Kyogre though, I'd have to choose Kyogre. Not much towards it besides me liking Kyogre's design better than Groudon. |
