Church

so
it's certainly been a while since i posted in here
i suppose since i'm making good on my glorious return to pc i should allow you guys to know a bit more about me
or rather, allow you guys to find out more about me on your own behalf!

some stuff about me i guess
  • my name is adriana
  • i'm 21
  • a chick
  • i've been on pc for far too long and too many different names, though i imagine the site would know me best as either libra or harlequin
  • i'm currently studying history & politics at university, although a) uni is out for the year thank god and b) i'm considering changing the politics part to education
  • why education? because i'm going into teaching anyway, but i figure i need more to my name than just a degree from a teaching college
  • although i've mentioned in a couple of threads about my rather pervasive anxiety issues, i feel no such boundaries when it comes to teaching. i love the delight i get from enlightening others, the thrill that comes from making a person understand a fact they otherwise would not get without my help. i love the thought of seeing the people i teach grow and become all that i want for them to be.
  • needless to say, i'm an idealist when it comes to that stuff. a hardened cynic in many other aspects of life, but surprisingly alive and i suppose naive when it comes to teaching.
  • what else is there... i suppose i should mention i'm transgender
  • i don't mind answering questions as so many people are totally ignorant of many aspects of being transgender. but try to be polite and not too invasive about bodily parts and what not.
  • i'm generally a reserved and withdrawn person by nature, but i totally adore and love the few i let inside my inner circle. being a very self-aware introvert, i do not care for most people because people just tend to be annoy me. not in some Holier than Thou matter, but really just... people frustrate me very easily.
  • though i love kids more than anything. i truly want to be a mother more than any other goal in my life.
  • i tend to treat a lot of people like they are my kids, either out of affection or because it's a long running joke that we know better than to question. i'm really quite motherly when i can be bothered interacting with the person.

i tried to put some variation into what i typed out as i have a feeling none of you know **** about me, but if you have any other questions, feel free to ask
just don't be stupid

Shout out to Libra for being a 10/10 member

My question, is there a reason that made u decide to return?

El Héroe Oscuro December 11th, 2014 6:11 PM

Who are some people you miss from your haydays on PC/who are you happy to still see around the site?

MurkMire December 11th, 2014 10:09 PM

Hi there, nice to meet'cha. :D

Two questions...

What thread did you normally peruse?

What made you choose the name, "Aphrodite?"

a member; a legend; an icon

Quote:

not really
a morbid curiosity & desire to see how things had changed
i did always love watching the regular noam chomskys and simone de beauvoirs posting in the debate section anyway :)

luke, ursula, forgotten memory, poopnoodle/outfox and scarf
i can't really remember anyone else i'm fond of but i miss those personalities on here
and by personality i mean those who live a little
although the average pc member isn't exactly known for social graces i feel like a lot of the personality has gone from the members over the years
or maybe i'm just jaded

as for who i'm happy to see around
sydian, patchisou yutohru, gold warehouse, cassino, hikamaru, shenanigans, sodom, curiousnathan and oryx
i'm also glad to see klippy around even though the last time we had any interaction whatsoever was 2010 at the latest and it wasn't exactly on positive terms lol
i think i'm glad to see him around because i enjoy his friendship with juli

i feel so aged lmao

ummmmm i dont really understand this but i p much exclusively post in culture & media, general chat and discussions & debates lol
i do enjoy pokemon but i don't have any desire to post about it as it's interest has faded a bit to me over the years

i'm a being of undeniable beauty obviously

curiousnathan December 13th, 2014 7:12 AM

What has been the biggest challenge you've faced in your life so far?
Money or Love? Brain or Beauty?
A quality you admire greatly in yourself?
What do you look for in a partner (intimate)?

ummmmm
probably having to deal with the fallout of telling my parents i like guys

that or the second demyx battle in kingdom hearts 2

Quote:

Money or Love? Brain or Beauty?
love i guess
since i'm going to be a teacher i've reconciled myself with the fact that i won't exactly be raking in money lol
hopefully i'll be able to marry well but that defeats the point of the question :( i need a sugardaddy who i dont need to touch ever

ummmmm
i'm vain as **** so i value other people's beauty quite highly
but i need to be able to have an intelligent conversation too :(
i have too much vanity despite my asexuality i need a hot person sorry

Quote:

A quality you admire greatly in yourself?
my answer to your first question spells it out
that is, i'm quite candid and able to talk about my own demons while also being able to make a joke whenever necessary
i'm very open about all things relating to me and i find that i'm able to use it whatever advantage i seek, usually comforting other people
and when that's combined with my rather limitless ability to make a joke it makes a quality i do like in myself
laughing/making other people laugh is my defense mechanism and i've perfected it over the years to a form above art
so long as i'm not exhausted at the time i usually have a funny comment or two up my sleeve

i guess i gave you two answers but they make a whole!

Quote:

What do you look for in a partner (intimate)?
although looking for a partner is the last thing i'm doing right now, someone who understands my boundaries and understands that i can't do a lot of the physical forms of intimacy that he must be accustomed to
i find that's usually the biggest border since most people want or need physical intimacy in order to feel that the relationship is real
i'm not ruling out doing stuff for them, but stuff like being naked or heavy fondling or w/e constitutes as deep physical intimacy is off the table for the initial stages of the relationship
asexuality is a ***** but i suppose it also tests whether someone is here for the long run

naturally i also look for intelligence, beauty, ability to make me happy, etc
my stance on physical beauty in regards to my asexuality is that even though i'm not attracted to or turned on by them, i want the possibility of being physically attracted to them
if i can't get that then i'm probably not going to remain interested

i'm quite self-centered i suppose lol

it's been a month! hello! is it me you're looking for!

Dragon January 13th, 2015 6:16 PM

Sooo, you said in the OP you're considering going into teaching; did you plan on what grade level you wanted to teach for? o:

High school and up! I love kids and can make any child adore me, but I'd go crazy within a week if I had to teach children. Either that or I'd be so strung out on stress meds that I'd fall asleep in the art supplies or something, glue connecting my eyelashes to the crazy glitter. Love kids, but collectively they are Satan and I have no time for it!

I'm gonna be teaching history anyway, possibly a politics class at a university depending on what my résumé is like in 15 or so years, but history will be my mainstay. I'd go into depths about my reasoning for wanting to teach, but I believe this comic sums things up nicely.

Polar Spectrum January 14th, 2015 12:42 AM

Do you think your identifying with being transgender will cause you any difficulty being employed in children's education?

It's... certainly an issue I've put thought into. But honestly, it's something I'm putting out of my mind for another year because I really don't fucking feel like thinking about how transphobia will impact my career.

curiousnathan January 14th, 2015 1:21 AM

Will you ever suppress your identification with being transgender in order to find suitable employment?
How do you maintain such silky-smooth skin?
What is one quality you dislike in people?

Polar Spectrum January 14th, 2015 2:28 AM

Well, I'm a girl with pride. Arrogant, it could be said (it has). But I'm also a realistic girl: many people will not be comfortable with me and may go out of their way to damage my career prospects. I can't provide a suitable answer at this point of time, but I suppose I'll have to do what's necessary if my situation does prove to hinder me.

Quote:

How do you maintain such silky-smooth skin?
Minimal, but strategic, exposure to the sun, cold water to the face every night at 9pm and a little dab of moisturiser every three days or so.
And prayer.

Quote:

Outright dishonesty to me. Interestingly, I don't totally decry the quality. I prefer total honesty considering I am typically quite truthful and unashamed about my comments, but I'm very fickle at times and enjoy watching things unfold so I let things slide by for my entertainment. But I do not care for lies. There is a difference between withdrawing yourself from a situation and lying. When engaging with me, I expect a person to be as forthright and truthful as I am. If I find out you have been otherwise, I will be more than glad to drop whatever I am doing and call you out for it.
I would rather the person stand on their own two feet and tell me if they have a disagreement with me, have a bit of pride in themselves and their thoughts. Otherwise their thoughts are as useless as their sense of self.

Honestly? A google search. When translated, it's not a particularly interesting name, as it just means 'dark' in Italian. But it's a beautiful name that I chose for myself, independent of any connections to anyone I know and that's what I want. It's an elegant, but assertive name.
Shortening it to Adri is cute too.

What's your favorite flower?
What are some of your favorite video games?
What is something about yourself you are most proud of?

Um.... not something I've really contemplated. The rafflesia?

Quote:

What are some of your favorite video games?
Portal/Portal 2, Civ 5, Bayonetta, the Final Fantasy franchise, GTA IV, it goes on. I've never been particularly good at making decisions like these, it's apparently all part of being a Libra.

Quote:

Hmm... probably my capability for humour. It keeps me intact during all manner of crises while simultaneously showing just how funny a person I truly am. Perhaps it is why I'm perceived as overwhelmingly arrogant, because it's funnier to act that way. Not that I'm denying just how arrogant I can be at times, but oh well. The point being is that my capability for humour is a defining part of me.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Belldandy March 7th, 2015 5:47 PM

I'd just like to mention that I also have anxiety issues, but teaching for some reason isn't affected by it; I also feel overcome with an enlightened feeling to know that people are learning and that I'm helping to create a bridge between a student's passion and an end goal :pink_nod:

For PC, I joined in 2009; you're a '08er. What changes have you noticed in PC's demographics compared to when you first registered here and now?

Have people been generally supportive in regards to your gender transition?

I'm still trying to familiarize myself with neutral or proper / politically correct terms for this transition, so hopefully "gender transition" isn't a bad turn of phrase :pink_blush:

Hmm.... there'd be a friend I'd like to live with in Australia, but we'd have to live on our own and he'd be the only reason I would even consider moving there. Australia is a massive downgrade from New Zealand in nearly all aspects so he's the only draw. Otherwise, I'd probably move to somewhere in America. It's an awful country, but I think its the best place for me socially and emotionally. I have friends here in NZ, but I've always seen them as rather temporary. As for family, well, no harm will be done aside from me missing my younger two siblings. I'll be poor no matter where I live, so financial aspects are hardly a factor here.

That's how I feel about it too! The imparting of knowledge eases me in any situation, so it's only natural that it should be beneficial in this environment.

I find the crowd today has such little inclination to express original and/or dissenting thought that one must wonder about what is happening 'up there'. This has always been a problem, but nonetheless, it's more rife than ever. That's not to say I think the crowd here to be stupider - I think there's been a marked increase over the years, myself included. They're just unwilling to say anything that disrupts oh-so carefully constructed flow. People here are so ready to praise the uniform, the seemingly cloned personalities so common around here.

The clique system has all but died out as well - not entirely, but almost. I happen to be the only remaining poster of a clique which called itself 'Sweater' back in '09, but I broke off contact with them years back and I'd like to think that I've grown up significantly since then. One of them had a kid, apparently. That Is So Crazy. Deny it as they would, but the staff was significantly cliquey in the past. Much less so now.
I think its a lot easier to make friends and associate with others here that it was in the past, due to both the extremely forced replies in the serenely saccharine Welcome Lounge and the overall community atmosphere that has grown over the years. I find that those on here who tend to be solitary are those who have been here for many years and made friends in the past who no longer post anymore. Overall, I think people here will find a community if they let it find them.

I also think the staff are superior to those I saw as late as 2013. That's really all I have to say about that.

I suppose many people on here would find my stances to be bitter and conceited. I've always said I can be very self-centered and condescending, but I don't think I'm being irrational, just blunt. If I had such a huge problem with the community that I didn't wish to post anymore, I would do just that. I've done so many times.

Quote:

I'm yet to start hormones and the like, but those who know have been supportive, bar my grandmother. But she doesn't matter. Those who do matter have been good so far, if confused.
