Generation 6 Starters

Are the generation 6 starters final evolutions looking more like Digimon?

First I'd like to say that I've been a fan of Pokemon since the beginning with the show and red and blue versions of the game. I love pokemon always and probably forever. I have been stubborn to accept new generations but always end up liking them anyway. I haven't gotten to play X and Y yet to test out the new pokemon but i have an idea which one i would want first. Now rewind here a little, i remember long ago also liking Digimon around the same time Pokemon came out and i know that there are a lot of blunt comparisons (Charmander and Agumon). I definitely know Pokemon is the superior brand. So I'm not dissing Pokemon whatsoever, however i can't help but look at Greninja, Delphox and Chesnaught and notice they don't look like your typical Pokemon. I do know that these 3 are based on classic RPG classes. I get that. But if i take a look at Blastoise and go down the line of final evolutions of water starter types then come to Greninja i cant help but feel like greninja is slightly out of place in how a Pokemon should look. I know Pokemon does often have humanoid like Pokemon in the past like Machamp. Idk what I'm trying to say really i love the new Pokemon but am i the only one that kinda sees them as obscure? Like gen 1 water type final froms through 5 all look like creatures that could be tamed and take orders from me. Greninja looks like a person that would do what it'd like.

Nah , Digimon has more OP design with Huge size !!!
And also , Nothing will make me more happier then A Starter Pokemon with OP design & Ability that can crush Omegamon X and his ''All Delete'' like a piece of Tin-can.
Plus , Fans likes humanoid Pokemon such as Lucario.
Too Bad , Greninja nowhere near it !!!

I must confess the Grass starter reminded me of a Digimon at the start. But no, I think we are far from that (yet).

I don't really watch or play Digimon at all, but I don't think these starters look like what i've seen of them. As someone else said in the thread, Digimon are more bigger designed than most Pokémon are.

Actually Digimon doesn't have a size So Different Media make them as Big as they want !!!

This is a Digimon--

Do you think any starter Pokemon look like this ???

Hikamaru December 11th, 2014 1:00 PM

As Pendraflare said, I don't see anything Digimon-like about these Pokemon. Digimon characters tend to look much more advanced and detailed in design, while Pokemon like to be cute and colorful.

Nah they'd have to have names like SUPERMETALCHROMEDELPHOX

Brendino December 11th, 2014 9:14 PM

I wouldn't say they're looking more like Digimon- they're just a little more detailed than the starter Pokemon of the past like Charizard, Typhlosion, Meganium, etc. Granted, I'm not really a Digimon fan either, so I only know of a handful of them, but I can't say I've seen too many other people complain about this.

Thanks guys, just wanted to know if anyone thought that. i don't watch digimon anymore, i stopped watching it once it started becoming ridiculous. i can't even tell you the names of some of them from when i did like the show. however, when i look at Delphox, Chesnaught and Greninja i feel like they'd be really extremely smart beings that would like speak to their trainer rather than just say their name. you know? Anyway, thanks for the feedback on this.

Actually , Blastoise look more like Digimon with its Canon.
As Someone said in YouTude ''When Digimon Evolve They get more Weapon!''

Pokémon stands for Pocket Monsters, as most of us know, and I don't believe monsters don't have any standards for appearance; they could look more or less like anything, if I'm not mistaken, whether it be a cute, little puppy, or a huge sea-dragon. Though, this is sort of a personal preference, but I do agree that things would likely be better had their designs been more simple and straightforward (such as the ones from generations one, two, and three) rather than complex.

Arylett Charnoa December 16th, 2014 7:53 AM

Nah. I don't think so. Whilst I could see the final evolutions being Champion level Digimon, I could also see ones from earlier generations being able to fit into that requirement. Although admittedly less so. Things are getting more complex, but I wouldn't confuse a Pokemon for a Digimon because both styles still have their own unique quirks. (Such as the eyes are drawn differently in Digimon, Digimon tend to be more technical-looking and much more obviously human whilst Pokemon are more animal-like, etc.)

But even if they were, is that really such a bad thing?

People in the Pokemon fandom seem to treat Digimon like some sort of horror story. As though it is completely inferior and that if Pokemon starts to veer in any territory resembling it, then its quality is decreasing. I don't really understand that attitude. Me, I like all sorts of monster design. Simple, complex, etc. It doesn't matter. Either one can be good if well-executed. I have no preference as long as it looks good.

Personally, what I dislike more about modern trends is how they're veering more towards a cartoony style than the previous generations. I liked that more anime, psuedo-realistic look of the earlier generations. Cartoonish ridiculousness and exaggerated proportions aren't a thing I'm a fan of. But I still like the current designs, and for the first time since Johto, I like the designs of all the final evolutions in this generation. As a matter of fact, Braixen/Delphox have become my two favorite Pokemon of all time.
