a Pokémon FireRed Hack by MrMacBeth First one actually...

Introduction:

Hello to everyone and welcome to my first ever hack presentation thread! (so exciting, isn't it?) Please let me introduce my work in progress: Pokémon version 6 (I guess it would be named "6 Edition" in English), based on Pokémon FireRed. My objective here is to make a hack that's challenging without ever being unfair to the player. To do so, I didn't want to fall into the obvious trap of irrelevant level gaps, so I balanced the stats and movesets of often overlooked Pokémon somewhat, implemented a handful of fakemon and of course gave strategically built and balanced teams to crucial characters. Finally, even outside of the battlefield, I tried (time will tell if I succeeded) to diversify the puzzles and make them harder than in actual Pokémon games. Doing so, I am actually expecting the player to never feel safe in this world and consequently to invest oneself more deeply in the storyline, which is everything but kind-hearted (don't misunderstand me: there will be both drama and humour, but don't expect the latter not to be based on pure nastiness and/or bad taste). To sum it up, I might have too high expectations, but who knows? I might be able to pull it off and stay committed until the end!

You could have collected badges, defied the Pokémon League and maybe become Champion, like a few chosen ones.
Player Characters

Violette

But it went wrong right from the start, when you and your childhood friend, Violette, were sent on your journey and were soon confronted by members of the Amethyst Cult. Even though those guys had been mocked for years for their shaky beliefs, they recently took a turn for the worse, becoming more and more active and violent. Maybe it had something to do with the recent unexplained surge of Ghost-type Pokémon and with those so called "purple rifts" rumours were going on about...

Amethyst Cult Grunts and Logo

And to top it off, instead of being exclusively accompanied by Violette in your quest, as you expected, fate brought upon you the presence of THOSE TWO JERKS the professors asked you to rescue in the fang creek to start your adventure... Obnoxiousness at its finest...
"THOSE TWO JERKS" aka Moraude and MacBeth

Explore a region filled with history of war, politics, superstitions and mysteries in order to "be the very best" (and if possible shake off your nuisances of companions...)!

Features:
  • Discover the region of Methora, an eclectic land. From the icy peaks of Palciel to the fields of red grass of Schwarzhul to the paradox of Platineth, torn between technology and traditions, you will never get the impression of visiting the same place twice!
  • Face the challenge of a game thought to be nuzlocked by top trainers!
  • Introducing about 100 brand new Pokémon as well as balancing those already existing (chosen from Gen 1 to 6)

Examples of fakemon

  • Two new types added to the original rom: the always-necessary Fairy type and a mysterious one created just for this game, with very, VERY limited distribution!
  • 10 badges to collect, kept by ferocious gym leaders, having powerful, strategically built teams at their disposal!
  • And many others (physical/special split, etc...)...

OMG!!!! The maps look soo good!!

Keep up the good work!

MrMacBeth December 18th, 2014 12:48 PM

Thank you! Mapping is actually what i like most in Rom hacking and consequently put the most effort in.

Fun Size December 18th, 2014 1:02 PM

Wow this hack looks really nice. Like TheRealOCD said the maps look amazing. I also like the character sprites. They look like they could be from a real Pokemon game. Your Fakemon look nice too although the ones that look like Vespiquen, Gardevoir, and Deoxys are bugging me but that's probably just my fault.

I'm excited for the challenge and I hope you are able to finish this.

MrMacBeth December 18th, 2014 1:06 PM

The one that looks like vespiqueen is actually her evolution and the gardevoir-looking one is the mega form of a third alternative evolution of kirlia. So the look alike feeling is definitely voluntary ;)

For the third one, however, I just realized the resemblance right now... I will have to do something about that ^^'

PS: They are all made from scratch though.

Lol I like how your adding new evolutions and I'm glad I could help. :)

Dedenne1 December 18th, 2014 1:23 PM

Really Great! I mean its great!
I love custom sprites and this game looks super good the maps have no errors the fakemon are good and i love challenges. I have some things u may want to include in starter post or just answer for me.
To what gen will pokemon be from example gen 1 to gen 6 which is all.
Will there be mega evoltutions?
Fairy type pokemon?
Is there a nuzlocke mode? (Some of my favorite games are automatically in nuzlocke mode :))
Btw i saw ur adding new evolutions add that to the top post because its amazing and itll definately attract people who like fakemon!
Good luck and this is being added to my list of support!

esperance December 18th, 2014 1:34 PM

Wow. You're quite good at spriting, and your maps look great!

I look forward to seeing how you do when you work on the scripting.

Dr. Seuss December 18th, 2014 1:38 PM

A Wiccan pentagram o.O

To be honest I don't like when the people use a maps with custom style tiles and the default style, looks weird, but your maps looks ok.

And I like the purple palletes of the hack, gives a really creepy style, btw good look!

Jukai December 18th, 2014 1:55 PM

God, I can already see potential in this. This looks pretty sweet for your first hack. Looks like you did alot of planning.

Can't wait for more!

also, oh my god, is one of the fakemon a NEW DEOXYS?

joltjolteon December 18th, 2014 1:56 PM

Everything is looking awesome, I will keep an eye on this project. Good luck!

MrMacBeth December 18th, 2014 2:06 PM

Fun Size:As I said in my starter thread, any help is appreciated :D
What can you do?

Dedenne1: 1)Thanks a lot for the kind words!
2) Most of your question are answered in my post, but np, i will precise ;)
a) there will be fakemons and pokemons FROM ALL 6 generations, but only selected ones, considering that I don't know how to increase the max number but if someone has a good tutorial about going beyond 386 pokes (+25), I'm interested!

b) Yes, there is mega evolutions (official and invented), but they are treated as regular evolutions, which means there will be only one evolutionnary stone of this kind in the game, to keep the limit from 6th gen of 1 mega per party.

c) Yes, Fairy type is here as well as another custom type, with VERY limited distribution.

d) No nuzlocke mode, because I don't know if it's possible on GBA, but if it is I WANT A TUTORIAL, BECAUSE IT WOULD BE A DREAM COME TRUE!

e) I will add that to the feature paragraph ;)

f) thanks for adding my hack to your list of support. means a lot to me!

Itari: As I said, the esthetics part is what i like most about hacking, so it's always a pleasure to read that ;)
As far as scripting goes, I will have to learn it more extensively, but I'm rather confident so far... so far...

G0ld: a) a pentagram for bad guys, seems legit!
b) I actually wanted to change the tiles for the Pkmn center and the shop, but my tilesets were already filled to the brim, so, I guess it will have to remain this way, sorry!
c) With a ghost type being the main legendary of my game, it felt appropriate. Moreover, I like when the menus, etc... are coherent color-wise. makes me think of Persona ^^

Actually, here is an artwork i just finished of the foresaid legendary. It's not great, but I will work on it ;)

http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/677299bigbigamphoetus.gif

"Korean-named person": I actually did a lot of planning! It had been a long time I wanted to do my own hack, so I had time to think about it and HERE IT IS!

Joltjolteon: Thanks (sorry not to be more original here ~_~)!

Also love your pokemon saiken hack btw.

*Firstly just so u know on the bottom of every post is the little quote button that can quote a message in the thread directly as im doing now also theres a button that looks like 4 boxes for multiple quotes. :)

Ik for a fact there is a way to increase the pokedex above that number i cant say ik for sure on firered hacks but i believe there is one.
Theres ways to make a nuzlocke mode well its not a "mode" in hacks but by different coding you can make the pokemon "die" after a certain amount of faints i dont remeber what hack it was in where my machop died after 4 faints and i was like whatttttt? In atomic reactors "game" not hack he has a nuzlocke based system i believe similar were after a certain amount your pokemon will essentially "die".

Anyways...
Really a new type? Thats so cool!
I dont 109% even if you can insert all pokemon recommend it haha i think just some legends and a good amount of pokemon from other regions like u said hand picked :)
Idk if this in the above post but are the starters u choose from(i believe u choose starters haha) fakemon? Thats usually the best and most fun XD
YAY Megas! And Custom? Wow this is just a great hack haha :)
Np its in my list (in my bio because its too big for anywere else) and im like picky on anything i put in there so your is just that great :p

Smeargle December 18th, 2014 3:27 PM

Very interesting, I like the stories concept and the ideas for the hack.
The custom art looks well done too, You seem to be pretty far into developement as far as mapping goes. Are all of the cities you've shown complete with events?

Well... All the mapping of the cities is done, but I have to redo some of them which dont satisfy me anymore.

Regarding the events, I know what I want, where I want, but it still has to be done.

Also love your pokemon saiken hack btw.

To be fair I was in a hurry, so i didn't said too much too, haha

I have time now, so I'll say/ask a few things:

1) Why the title of the hack is Version 6?

2) The purple rifts reminds me a lot of the cracks in space and time from Doctor Who. Are they related in some way?

3) The trees from bourg violet are looking amazing! But the inverted ones are bugging me a little, i think the change in color are enough to differentiate each other. Same for the ones from Nouvelle Adélie, although they contribute for the simetry on certain places.

4) Speaking of Nouvelle Adélie, I really like the artistic feeling of it! Specially the piano stage. Perhaps you plan an event for this part of the town?

5) http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/656626Sanstitre32.gif

The "A" reminds me of the Avengers logo. Very cool.

6) The fakémon looks incredible too, specially the alternate kirlia evolution.

Again, I wish you all of the luck. This project has big potential! And i'm glad you like my hack too, haha

OPSdoesLPs December 19th, 2014 3:58 AM

I think I fell in love. Yea expect this on my channel when its done oh my lord.

Many reasons, but the most crucial one is that it sounds cool to me and is actually my favorite number (for some reason) ^^
Story-wise, the number 6 more or less represents "evil" ("number of the beast" and other freakingly cliché things :P ) and also kinda looks like my title legendary (being a foetus with an umbilical cord). Finally, I was also thinking of dividing my story in 6 acts, much like a play.

Even though I'm a Whovian, No. The inspiration, at least estheticly speaking, comes actually more from the midnight channel in Persona 4. However, just like all the fictionnal metaphysical rifts, it will indeed bring the player and those falling inside somewhere else. where? you will seeeee...

(Not a fan of the beginnings of Matt Smith and consequently of the time-and-space crack storyline.)

I thought the same, but when you actually are on the emulator, it really adds depth to the small part of the world you see on your screen. Just a very personal opinion though ^^

The artsy feeling is absolutely the theme of this city, glad to like it. Originally, it was supposed to be centered on Drama only, but grew into that, much to my satisfaction!

Thanks a lot, but it's actually a shame I can't show my favorite ones, because they are important story-wise and I still want to build mystery :P

This looks like the kind of hack I would make love too. When it's done, I'll play it for the rest of my life.

Dionen December 19th, 2014 7:13 AM

heyooooo, Great start!
I would just recommend you not to get lost with the amount of tiles you are inserting, because even if they are beautiful they may cause some visual pollution in some spots and that may affect the gameplay. Also, your maps are kinda big, you should put some signs in them ^_^
Keep going! I love how you are giving life to the characters and the Never!Black&White references (maybe I'm seeing things)

JordanBlakeKelly December 19th, 2014 7:14 AM

This just deserves so much YES. This needs to be created. Im soooooooo down for this. Deffinantly expect this on my channel @Pokemon Patronus. I love stuff like this and this would just be the thing id love to have created. Dude. So much props to you for this.

Shhwonk December 19th, 2014 9:08 AM

Great job, MacBeth! You French folk are so artsy. Right away from reading your introduction, I can see this is gonna be a great hack. Perhaps, for me, the Introduction grabbed my attention and was the most interesting part of your hack. Not so say your screenshots aren't amazing (which they are!), but I'm most impressed by the features you plan to implement, and your overall take on the game's mechanics. I love how you are focused on immersing the player into the story and the difficulty. And dark humour is always a nice touch! :-)

Your sprites, the trainers and Fakemon, are all very well done. The logo is especially also awesome. And the tiles and colours are also very well done. This is a great-looking game.

Lastly, I think I can nitpick the nuances of your hack because it looks like you take it very seriously. My only critique is in the mapping style--it looks to me very chaotic and cluttered. There's SO MUCH going on in every inch of the map that it seems overwhelming, and it also seems like it would hinder the player's exploration. I understand your desire to fill empty spaces and diversify the tiles, but with the small size of GBA maps, less can be more. To add to that, it seems like you didn't utilise the sheer size of your maps (i.e., a lot of your maps are outlined by tons of trees/mountains), so you could have stretched out your buildings so they weren't so tightly compressed to eachother, or to other tiles. For example, a lot of doors have only 1 tile space in front of them; to me, that looks sort of claustrophobic.

With that said, I don't even think that's a big deal. You could say your maps reflect the hectic atmosphere of the game itself, because as you say, you expect "the player to never feel safe in this world." I guess my suggestion is simplify at least A LITTLE BIT. Otherwise...again, great job!!

jessicakill December 19th, 2014 10:23 AM

Hey your maps are simply stunning!

Although I'm not fond of fakemon, I might play this once it releases.

Keep going anyway, your hack looks very solid!

Shachar700 December 19th, 2014 10:34 AM

This rom hack looks very interesting

good luck, hopefully you'll stay committed till the very end ;)

I will do it in french AND in english, absolutely (will need a corrector though)!

1) I can understand this legitimate complain, but I have issues going against my very nature, loving every single hole filled (sounds wrong somehow...). I tried to keep the "travel areas" such as routes more clear on the other hand to keep the discovery pleasant and not tedious. ;)

2) I see one reference to Never black (the female main character) , but nothing else... hum... Can you enlighten me?

Good analysis! but as I said up there, I liked the things being compressed against each other, even though I force myself to set a large road in front of every building as often as possible ;)

PS: Thx to everybody for the support!

Bruh...This hack looks awesome! Do not abandon it! It will be great it if you keep working on it. :)

chaos_envoys December 19th, 2014 4:59 PM

I just love the fakemons!!!! Great ones!!!! Anyways, hows the progress of the hack? Like percent completed before betas or anything :)

Logical Cabbage December 19th, 2014 5:44 PM

I'm not usually into fakemon hacks, but I love what this game has to offer :) Can't wait to see it :)

The Undisputed Era December 19th, 2014 6:07 PM

The sprites for this hack are really nice, usually peoples custom sprites can look a bit tasteless especially in the pick your gender and Rival screens but yours looks like they actually fit in a pokemon game which is good to see.

My opinion of Fakemon is that they're all bad, there are 720 pokemon to choose from yet people decide to add their own and usually they look incredibly bad and or don't even resemble anything that could be called a Pokemon and a lot of yours look like they'd be better in another fantasy game and not a pokemon one, that being said they're very nicely designed.

My massive peeve with this hack is your maps, THEY'RE SO DAMN CRAMPED, it's like "Where am I supposed to look!?", there is just way too much going on and that is from looking at the whole map I imagine that once it goes into a single screen on a GBA it will look even more cramped, I understand certain towns/cities being cramped looking but for your beachy and resort maps they just have way too much stuff on them, if you toned it back a bit they would look so much nicer.

The storyline looks to be decent I'd like to see/read more of it maybe when you release an alpha or beta we can get a bit more info on the storyline and I have to say the idea of the "big bad organisation" being a cult is awesome and I hope that their pokemon will reflect who they are and what they stand for.

Good luck on your progress of this hack!

shadic249 December 19th, 2014 8:22 PM

If you need any beta testers I'd be happy to help with that! This hack looks amazing!

or19937 December 19th, 2014 9:32 PM

This... Looks... AMAZING!

I can't wait :D

Maps are so colorfull and I really loved the spriting.

MasterBallz December 20th, 2014 12:23 AM

Much praise to be had over this hack its a work of art.

AmazingCharizard December 20th, 2014 8:58 AM

This looks very well done. Characters, the villainous team, the maps, you know what you're doing :) Keep it up!

narutodkurosaki December 20th, 2014 9:27 AM

OK.....I just saw this post and you have got me HOOKED and the map looks SO DAMN GOOD and the fakemons are not bad either as for your decision of a single mega evolution I can accept that because a whole team of mega evolved pokemon would be an overkill and killjoy.
So thumbs up to you man.
It would be great if you have a demo before you release the first beta.

OPSdoesLPs December 20th, 2014 11:06 AM

Lookin back at this post, and Im actually REALLY excited for this game.

Dingodile December 20th, 2014 12:09 PM

This hack is extremely beautiful. Will cry tears of joy when I get to play it!

MrMacBeth December 20th, 2014 6:10 PM

To answer every question:

1) I will probably do a demo, don't know when though considering that as a lunatic person I can decide to wipe an entire area I don't like it anymore out and it can be as time consuming as unexpected, so I won't give you a deadline for now.

2) I don't think I will have a need for beta testers, sorry. ^^ (not yet at least)

3) Ok, I heard some of you! My maps are cramped, I will try to somewhat restrain myself (just added a new map which btw is less "baroque"... To compensate, I made it more huge as f*ck though :P)

4) I will be away for a week without access to the internet, so dont expect any update until then.

Nevertheless, as I am generous, here is a new map:

For a better look, I recommend you to check it out on my Deviantart page though, where it can reduced.

Finally, once again thanks for the support (me saying that start becoming redundant ^^) and merry christmas!

I did look into this and depending upon what your base rom is u can have the player take the national pokedex at the beginning instead of just giving them the regional and that can increase the amount of available pokes plus i looked online and theyre are several hacks that have over that number idk how but you can ask spherical ice or Christos they most likely will have an idea :)

ThatBritishYoshi March 11th, 2015 10:07 AM

Can't wait for this hack! It's Generalsheep1 from deviantART, by the way.

Christos March 11th, 2015 10:18 AM

Don't post in threads that haven't been posted in for over a month, please. MrMacBeth, if you ever want this thread re-opened just send me or Spherical Ice a message.

Okay that was fast. Good luck on this, MrMacBeth!

MrMacBeth March 11th, 2015 4:58 PM

It's not because I can't post because of personal reasons, that I'm not lurking around ^^

For those still interested, I'm going to send a Big update and Apologies for my absence this WE

See you then ;)

Well, there's no beta yet and the OP hasn't been edited since pretty much the beggining (+3). I assume it'll take at least a year or two for the final version. That being said, I think it's a beautiful hack (sadly with fakemons which I hope won't seem to fake ingame) and I wish nobody would have revived this thread cause now I'm looking forward to play it.

He said he wasn't able to post because of personal reason. Which probably means he couldn't work on the hack. If anything it should take a year. And what do you mean by, '(sadly with fakemons which I hope won't seem to fake ingame,)' Which you hope won't seem to fake...?

Well, I meant ''too fake''. But isn't it clear enough though? Like I mean I hope they will look like pokemons and not digimons. Pokemons all have the same look.

Anyway, he just sent me a pm with the dex and now my concerns are gone. Most of them actually look like a more mature version of pokemons lol, should be fine.

State of Pokemon 6 Address

My Fellow Pokecommunity Citizens,

After several months away from this thread (Check the addendum for more information on that), I came back in order to inform all of you still interested by the Pokemon 6 project of its neverending evolution. Indeed, my dear friends, Even though We were set apart by fate (Check addendum again), I never stopped thinking of all of you and never gave up. I kept my work going.

And believe me when I say that a lot of progress was made!

Plan of this presentation:
I) Methora Region mapping
II) Character spriting
a) Trainers
b) Fakemons

III) What to expect in the near future?
Addendum
I) Methora Region Mapping

Mapping is going swiftly! Please take a lot at this Map of my beloved region:

As you can see, most of the map exteriors have already been finished, even though some places are still somewhat being tweaked. As far as the main adventure goes, its path has almost been finalized, minus the areas which need some reworking and the North-East part of the world. I also finished interiors up to the 4th badge out of ten.

By the way, be sure that I didn't trade quality for quatity. Please, take a look at the 20th route (beware! It's huge):

II) Character Spriting

A) Trainers Battle Sprites

Even though the concepts of each important character had been ready for quite some time now, It took me many hours to finalize the ingame sprites. Nevertheless, I can finally say with pride that every major character got their sprite started from scratch, finished and implemented in the rom! In order to avoid spoilers, I won't upload any of them as of now (unless you ask kindly...) and I ask you to trust me on this one as you trusted me (I'm sure) on the quality of the previously-stated maps.

Regarding generic trainers, I plan on implementing lightly-altered 4th and 5th gen sprites to give them some uniquesness and improve the immersion feeling of the region. However, this isn't near ready yet. Please be patient!

B) Fakemon Sprites

Let's continue with the main focus of this update presentation!

Back in december, when I originally showcased the first fakemons designed for the game, the main focus was stolen by the Mapping which I won't let happen this time again. Believe me on that! I actually spent hours and hours in order to improve my spriting skills and I finally achieved results I'm not afraid of saying I'm proud of (For some reason, I think there is something really wrong with this sentence grammar :x )

But for such a subject, words are never enough, especially when I know many people are sceptical regarding the entire concept of fakemon!

BEHOLD! (... It might be a little bit too much hype ^^')

Pokemon 6 starters: (their evolution are hidden under "spoiler boxes" (?) for those fearing said spoilers

http://orig08.deviantart.net/c955/f/2015/074/0/3/pys1_by_dragon_du_22-d8lthzl.png

http://orig02.deviantart.net/ade2/f/2015/074/e/0/pys4_by_dragon_du_22-d8ltily.png

Finally, For the most eager of you, here is my entire fakedex, which is still in progress, but should be finished by the end of next month:

I REALLY hope you got convinced by those lovely creatures, because they were definitely the main focus while I was living as an internet hermit (Check Addendum for more information again. Again.) and showcasing them was the main objective of this update!

As a bonus, you can check those fanarts made by my newly-found friend on Deviantart, GothicRift, representing the first two stages of my grass starter:

II) What to expect next?

Trust me the next few months will be worth looking forward to regarding the evolution of Pokemon 6! After finishing my Fakedex, which should take me a few weeks, I plan on completely revisting the overworld sprites by changing all of them to 4th-gen looking ones (NO, NOT 5TH GEN!). And then, things will start getting exciting as my focus will turn to releasing a demo which will go up to the 3rd gym and a crucial plot-changing event.

I hope you are now looking forward to it, because I sure am!

II) Addendum
Well... Here is the last and most awkward part of this entire update. Why was I away for so long when I made it clear I was supposed to leave for only one week? I previously said it was because of personal reasons. Let me be more specific without getting into too much details. Right after coming back from holidays, someone close to me died (I neither expect nor want any kind of pity) and after doing what needed to be done in those cases, I had to go straight to my midterms (which I aced, of course, being myself ^^) and then go back to university for an extremely heavy semester (What did I expect from Law School?),actually much more heavy than what I anticipated.

So I had to make a choice between communicating about this hack or working on it on the remains of my free time. I chose the latter and have remained adamant about it, fastening on Deviantart because it was way less time-consuming (to start off... because now I have way too many watchers :,( )
Btw, here is a link to my DA page, where I will keep updating regurlarly: http://dragon-du-22.deviantart.com/

Don't misunderstand me either: I'm coming back on Pokecommunity TO STAY, but don't expect seeing me here everyday ;)

I hope, my fellow Pokecommunity citizens, I don't risk impeachment for that ^^ (Yes, I am shamelessly going back to the presidential theme of this comeback presentation just at the end to remind you of how awesome the introduction picture was)

Frenchly yours,

Self-proclaimed President MacBeth

Sefuree March 15th, 2015 11:17 AM

Thanks for the update! I've been waiting a long time for this.

First of all, the world map looks amazing! I also love route 20. You don't leave any big empty spaces and i love that!

The fakemon look awesome too! You really know how to sprite fakemon!

It's always a pleasure to see your updates and I'm looking foward to the next one and for a beta!

Good luck and keep up the amazing work!

I've been keeping track of this hack's progress on dA and I must say, it's looking very promising. There aren't enough fakemon games out there, and your designs are particularly creative, especially the starters! I look forward to seeing more on this game as it develops. :)

Fun Size March 15th, 2015 4:21 PM

How have I not seen this hack till now? It looks awesome! Your Fakemon designs are some of the best I've seen and I'm excited to see the rest. About Route 20... are you sure it's big enough... jk jk the place is huge and I really like the map a lot. It really gives off an evil vibe which is probably what you want it to give off. Also I really, really, REALLY love your starters especially your water type one. It looks too adorable. Good luck with your hack Mr. President :P

Glad to see you didnt forget about me! As I said, I never stopped working on Pokemon Version 6 and put a lot of work into it especially my fakemons, because I considered my first presentation to be lacking in that area. So apparently, it's a success, which is much appreciated! And yeah, keep looking, the demo (for lack of a beta) is on its way!

I kinda expected to see you here. It's still great to see your support on a different website though! And trust me, I will keep developping, developping, developping and trying to make inventive designs (I especially have an idea about a water type so irrelevant that it might just work... looking forward to uploading this one!)

Well, I can't blame you for not seeing it until now, considering that I left this topic in a state of deep slumber for quite a long time. But, everything is fine now, I'm back. Please spread the good word!
Regarding my maps, yes, they are huge I know, but isn't being lost the best way to feel threatened? And Yes, it is indeed supposed to be somewhat evil (I would rather say oppressive and unpredictibable, but the idea is the same!)
Finally as of my starters, I put a lot of effort into making them. So I'm glad you like them (Nice choice btw (all three of them are http://www.pokecommunity.com/images/templates/smilies/cerulean/12.%20tongue.gif ))

Regarding the future of this thread, I would like to know how you would like me to update it. At the moment, I'm making fakemons on my DA page. Do you want me to also upload them here too or would you rather have fewer heavier updates?

Last but not least, if i feel able to keep doing "artistic work" and to learn how to somewhat script in little time, I'm left completely clueless regarding ASM...

Consequently, I'm looking for someone skilled at ASM who would kindly (bioshock reference, yeaaaah...) either make one (several) little (big) things for me or teach me more thoughouly how to do so!

Thanks for reading.
Thanks in advance for responding!

Frenchly Yours (I think I'm gonna love writing this),

I hope, my fellow Pokecommunity citizens, I don't risk impeachment for that ^^ (Yes, I am shamelessly going back to the presidential theme of this comeback presentation just at the end to remind you of how awesome the introduction picture was)

Frenchly yours,

Self-proclaimed President MacBeth

I think that the worldmap should be done with glazed/HGSS style and that second stages of the starters should get a 2nd type, ex: cygnaia looks like a bird so water/flying...

Regarding the map, I actually prefer the good old 3rd gen map, with à few slight changes, of course.
And about the 2nd stage of the starters. I do like them being one-typed only as long as possible (understand "up to their third stage") because it allows me to choose the typing of the 1st gymS freely, because no starter will be uterly destroyed because of à double weakness. (About the cyanaia line, I voluntarily and strongly refused to make them flying because it was indeed too obvious and the inspiration of the said line made the fairy type make sense ^^)

ÉDIT: I was actually talking about the origins of each starter line concept, before realizing I didnt explain those. Lemme right those wrong:

Each final stage is based off a different mythology:

- Necrusaeus (grass) is supposed to be the result of a mouse getting eaten by a serpent/carnivorous plant, thus becoming a cobra-sphinx hybrid based on Uraeus, a creature from egyptian legends.
- Okrami (fire) is inspired by Japanese folklore and loosely on the appearence of Amateratsu in the game Okami (not-so-subtle name, I know)
- Finally, Naialeda (water) is actually not a Puffin, which is an animal i even forgot existed , but a representation of both the Black Swan from the Swan Lake by Tchaikovsky (which is why it has a ballerina-corset-like body) and the holy swan Leda from the norse mythology.

Self-proclaimed President MacBeth

First off, that art before the actual update is amazing.

Secondly, it's nice to see you back with some updates! As usual, your stuff's looking spic and span, I especially like the dex. Keep up the good work, Mr. President

1) I was wondering if somebody actually cared about it! Thanks for relieving my burden! ^^

2) I'm back to stay this time! And regarding my dex (thanks for your appreciation btw), I try to steadily update it. For instance, here are my last additions to it (Not my best work so far, I've to admit... I especially have issues with Nefaryen, who will probably be redone some time soon)

3) Still need an answer: How do you fellow pokecommunity hack section members want me to display my updates? one by one, right after it's possible to showcase them or by "package" just like I did for my comeback?

4) Still in need of ASM support (At some point, I may get a positive answer ^^')

These look great! :D

Well, it depends on what you're updating us on. If you manage to get A LOT done at a time, then a package. But if you're slowly working on it, then of course one by one. I don't want you to feel that we need an update immediately when you have something done.

Looks nice. Contact me if you need some music files. I'd be glad to help since I am too lazy to make a hack by myself.

Thanks for the offer, I actually do need some music (among other things)! I am on my way checking your soundcloud ;)

Everything about this hack is incredible!! The fakemon look so real and the maps and characters are all so well put together!I can't wait to play it, keep up the incredible work!

P.S. - You're actually really good at English. I could barely even tell that you were foreign until you said you were French at the bottom.

1) Don't worry, I will keep working to make a playable version asap ;)

2) Thanks for that, I needed this kind of support! ^^
I never feel too confident while writing in foreigh languages. think too much, i guess...

3) While, I'm at it: New fakemon line (once again SPOILERS INCOMING!)

1) Thanks!
2) To be precise:

Regarding the mapping, more than half the region exteriors are finished. The interiors are still behind, but done at least up to the end of the demo i intend to release.
The scripting of the trainers is finished (even though, knowing myself, I'll most likely someday come back to it) and concerning the fakemon, I finished more than 50% of the MINIMUM amount I plan to implement and also got the permission from some "selected" DA spriters to use some of their designs.
Each detail of the story has been decided and finalized even before I started posting here, so unless something major starts bothering me, it can be considered done.
Music-wise, I don't understand anything, but another member of this forum started taking care of it for me ( thanks again, xGal!)
Finally, in order to improve and polish the overall gameplay and immersion experience, I'm on my way trying to learn ASM with the help of Daniils. Can't tell you yet how swiftly it will go, considering I didn't have as much time as I planned to work on it.

And of course, I still have to work on some graphical and gameplay tweaks (battle background, increase the number of attacks and pokemon, etc...)

I hope I was clear enough ;)

chaos_envoys March 23rd, 2015 5:54 PM

Awesome work!!! I really loved the fakemons!! So hows the hack progressing?? How far from the first beta? :)

I m going to sprite for a little longer and then start the demo-related scripting http://www.pokecommunity.com/images/templates/smilies/cerulean/11.%20wink.gif

If everything goes well maybe can expect this unpolished beta before summer. I can't promise anything for sure though. But keep in touch, I might ask for help if i get overwhelmed by this task

PS: Thanks for adding Version 6 to your "waiting for" list by the way!

chaos_envoys March 24th, 2015 11:02 PM

It's been on my waiting list since the first you post here MrMacBeth!! Your work is just amazing!!! I really like the fakemons.. IMO, it looks like gamefreak, but in different style..

I for one have had a neutral like to fakemon but when I saw your style of fakemon I got excited for this game and I also like the main character sprites and I love the antagonist team symbol it makes me thinking of an illuminati theme and I'm going to wait patiently for the great outcome. Keep up the good work. :)

1) After I win the 2037 french presidential election, everybody will have to call me that. It will be wonderful... My greedy hands are already shaking with excitement!

2) I actually got some review on DA, so I'm actually working on maybe improving the female sprites. "Maybe" being the important word here. ^^

Now this is a game I'm looking forward to playing: well-presented fakemon (I usually have an adversion to them but this is an exception), brilliant spriting, and maps that are bluntly gorgeous. This. Is. Awesome.
