Do you still believe in one another?

I asked Dipu/Andy if I could make this thread and given it's posted it's likely they didn't hate it, or something. Hopefully it doesn't sound silly.

Anyway, welcome to the new winter solstice/Christmas/Hannukah/New Year's/Kwanzaa/Post-Holidays DCC! Unlike the current weather outside (unless you're an Aussie or live in South America or something), General Chat's Daily Chit-Chat has always aimed at being a warm, friendly place to drop in and post about something (or anything) interesting. Like everything though if we didn't have rules it'd be like before those Greek deities created the titans or something so bear in mind this really short list of guidelines/rules/whathaveyou before jumping into the pool:
  1. Check the topic at hand, and unless it's dead or something go with the flow of the current topic. You can reply to a dead topic if you're interested though, but don't go bringing up past conversations or anything.
  2. Be sure to follow PC's main rules. The people upstairs would get really mad if we were anarchists about forumming, so you gotta listen to what they have to say about... things... ahem. Don't take this one lightly.
  3. Until the siege for the 4/25 rule is over, you still have to follow it, no exceptions. Sorry if you have a GIF or something, we'll feel bad for you though. We'd almost sort of probably agree with you on that, most likely. Don't quote us on that.
  4. Just as a reminder, don't be a meanie to others about things. If you disagree with something really strongly put it in Notepad or on a blog, not here.

Soooooo... how were the holidays for everyone? Who got socks from their grandparents? lol

maccrash December 23rd, 2014 4:13 PM

SO MY NAME IS MACCRASH AND I'M POSTING FIRST IN THE NEW GENERAL CHAT DCC.....

HOW DO I FEEL? REALLY GOOD ABOUT IT

AND MY GRANDMOTHER'S PROBABLY GOING TO GET ME LIKE JEANS OR SOMETHING

ALSO THIS IS MY 1,111TH POST WHICH FEELS BOTH SYMBOLIC AND INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING THAT I WASTED MY 1,111TH POST ON THIS SHIT

Hikamaru December 23rd, 2014 4:16 PM

My first post in the new DCC!

So uh, we only just got the snacks for the Christmas lunch. My family are always late when it comes to these, but at least I have something better if one hasn't read my latest blog post yet.

Alexander Nicholi December 23rd, 2014 4:19 PM

:3

My mother's friend Kris is thinking of getting me a Visa/MasterCard gift card for Christmas, which would accompany the keyboard I'm getting from my mother as well as money for a mouse. And I have my RAM chip as well. \o/

Speaking of which, I'm going to take a break and write some poetry. Those are my gifts.

Sheep December 23rd, 2014 4:21 PM

omg new dcc hi

Still no Christmas tree.. guess there won't be one in the house this year. D: Though I know mom's just getting us prepaid cards loaded with some money since she has absolutely zero clue on what everyone wants, lol.

Poki December 23rd, 2014 4:21 PM

I'm forced to celebrate with my family tomorrow.

someone kill me pls

I know how you feel, my family never puts our tree up these days because we're lazy.

Pokestick, good times. December 23rd, 2014 4:31 PM

Long time no DCC!

Christmas is in going strong. Got a tree, got wrapped gifty things, got cheesy christmas music.

No snow though.

Alexander Nicholi December 23rd, 2014 4:42 PM

oh my god is the anticensor not fucked anymore? :D

yussssss

Her December 23rd, 2014 4:44 PM

is it customary to make new dccs so frequently now

Alexander Nicholi December 23rd, 2014 4:56 PM

I've always liked the idea of having a new DCC a few days before Christmas, as IMO refresting the DCC adds to the newness and novelties of the holidays in general. We wouldn't want an old and crusty DCC to give us the Christmas blues, would we?

It's good for the time of the year, at least I think so.

Pokestick, good times. December 23rd, 2014 4:58 PM

It does feel strangely comfy already, so you might be on to something.

Sir Codin December 23rd, 2014 4:59 PM

You can now choose to have things uncensored now, but don't overdo it.

And for fuck's sake, use your words properly and only when necessary. Just because you can see the word "asshole" now doesn't mean you're allowed to call someone that. The Mods will still slap you with a disrespect to members card, unless on the off-chance that the mods democratically decide that the person you are insulting is indeed an asshole and even then, that's rare.

Yukari December 23rd, 2014 5:15 PM

Being able to see all that profanity is going to take some getting used to.

But it's better then seeing Pokemon names instead.

Aisu December 23rd, 2014 5:54 PM

I want to catch that damn Primal Kyogre in Alpha Sapphire for Christmas.

El Héroe Oscuro December 23rd, 2014 6:01 PM

Once everyone gets over this initial wave of "omg I swear now" I can see the use of them dying down tremendously. That being said I'm still pretty happy that we got the censor removed.

I tried to get cottonheadedninnymuggins added to the censor list but I was outvoted ):

I just saw that movie for the first time this past week, haha. Not bad but I'm not sure if I'll add it to my normal holiday rotation every year. Had some funny moments though.

That was the first time you've watched Elf?! Well...I mean better late than never I suppose. I'm quite disappointed in you though for waiting so long to watch it till now tsk tsk.

What was your favorite part?

maccrash December 23rd, 2014 6:23 PM

first of all I've seen Elf like 600 times at this point.

second of all my band covered a lot of songs 2nite and I recorded them with my shitty iPhone speaker. should I post em

As long as it doesn't sound like a blown out speaker, then go for it.

Alexander Nicholi December 23rd, 2014 7:17 PM

Elf is great. Ugh, but I haven't seen it in a long time, so I can't remember a whole lot of my favorite moments...

I really like Gladiator and King Arthur though. I need to watch the former a few more times so it's not as emotionally heavy. Or maybe I need to not be so depressive, I dunno. Both are legendary movies about legendary legends, and also... Hans Zimmer. He always makes good music, I like to think of him as a Beethoven of our time.

Aisu December 23rd, 2014 8:09 PM

I never saw the movie Elf before.

Elf is pretty funny, but it isn't really a favourite. My favourite holiday movies are probably the old Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, and A Christmas Story. A Christmas Story is freaking great, man.

I have seen it waaaaay too many times now.

Immediate family every year since release in our holiday rotation. But then when visiting extended family... it's a movie that appeals to everyone and very little kids love it, so it comes up a lot. I'm awfully sure it's going to be playing Christmas Eve and Day when I'm visiting people

Alexander Nicholi December 23rd, 2014 9:42 PM

Elf was a riot when it first came out, and since I don't see it enough it kind of still is to me. Will Feral was funny in it. Huuuuuuh

Also, that stupid dog is out tomorrow, and I'm finally getting my fucking cat. At long last, I do not have to have a house where a 60 pound puppy goes around terrorizing my leisure. I'm so excited I'm probably going to compress Arthur all to hell <333333

Mark Kamill December 24th, 2014 3:22 AM

If you want good Christmas feels from a movie, go watch Love Actually. I don't watch corny rom-coms that much, or at all to be honest, but the combination of Bill Nighy, Alan Rickman, Hugh Grant, and Liam Neeson is too much for me not to watch it. Personally love british comedy, and that's why it was an exception.

I had Love Actually some years ago, and was told by family it wasn't any good. Then again those people weren't good for much either and I tend to like your opinion on things, so if I could I'd try it. British humor is great.

It was a lot like a horror-comedy I saw called Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. What motivated me to watch it to begin with was Alan Tudyk and the genre label, and even though I usually don't like horrors that much at all through and through I really enjoyed it. The humor had an amazing depth to it that I really liked.

Shining Raichu December 24th, 2014 6:08 AM

AAAA I watched love actually the other night specifically for Christmas. There's nothing that puts me more in a Christmassy mood than that movie.

It's just such a charming movie and it's the ideal Christmas movie because it's actually not about Christmas, it just happens to occur at Christmas time.

Poki December 24th, 2014 6:27 AM

My cat is so cute <333

He likes being brushed but he's not yet close enough for me to hug him, but soon enough I'll loosen him up for him not to claw me anymore. He is entirely jet black with these beautiful green eyes, and these awful people here haven't given him anywhere near enough litter to where he's rationing his bathroom trips :(

I'm going to take really good care of him for sure. he's very cute :3

A little rap battle for the holiday season:

Deltios December 24th, 2014 1:52 PM

Sit down, y'all, because I got a wonderful story to tell here.

Okay, so I went to running training today, nobody being there, me waiting a lot etcetera, and I must say
Thank the teachers for making me wait and not being there, making me run on own initiative
Basically, on the road home, near the Foody's (some shop with various vending machines)
I wanted to stop there in order to get me some Pocky (Technically Mikado in Belgium, but it's a renamed Pocky, so I'll identify it as such), but what I found instead made my face light up
I found my bike, stood there, unlocked, with ducttape covering the engraved part on the hull. I attempted to take it along, and to the police office, but one person ran out, claiming it was his bike
And, well, the argument seemed endless. Eventually, he started threatening to knock me out and stuff, throwing "false punches" (basically, punching with the intention to miss)
He kept insisting that it was a christmas gift he got, and that it cost him 1500€ and he kept demanding me 800€..
He acted surprisingly violent when I called the police (who couldn't help me nor connect me to our city's police)
Then I delivered his proof: I ripped off part of the ducttape, him trying to punch me while I'm doing so, yet hesitating to do it
And still, he kept insisting it was HIS christmas present thus HIS bike (at this point we can all assume he stole it one month ago)
I did something that made me feel horrible: I punched him in the face. After this we kept going, him giving up after I punched him twice more.. (Man, I hate hurting people, even in situations like these...)
I rushed to town, cycling with my recovered bike in one hand
I was basically panicking, went to the police office, locked my bike, pretty much hyperventilating
The officers were nice enough to help me out, asked me for proof, at which I said it was engraved and told him I had my ID card with me
Through my ID card, they could verify that it was indeed my bike.
So they loaded it up, went to the Foody's and went to my house after that
And, well, my bike's finally home, but I can't help but feel horrible for what I did..

And I must say, I was terrified and still am.. They threatened to knock me out full blast. And even though it's "just a threat", what if it actually happens?
Anyways, I finally got my bike back after a long while.

Well, I took this from my deviantart journal (essentially a blog) so that might explain the "out of place" bit.

And really, thanks for not saying "cool story bro"
I really dislike that phrase. <_<

Alexander Nicholi December 24th, 2014 2:44 PM

You know, the weirdest thing about my interaction with this cat is that he's scratched my hands up a good bit to where I'd expect minor scarring, but it didn't really hurt at all and I don't feel them like I would normal wounds. It's strange :O

I really like him. He's a good cat, and he'll get used to me. I am the cat whisperer.

As Will Ferrell is in Elf though, it's a pretty safe guess that it's not that good :P

Alexander Nicholi December 25th, 2014 1:53 AM

The already tight family house is overcrowded for Christmas because the drive is too long to justify us going home. It's really early right now and I went to bed with the others, I'm fully awake though. The cat already likes hugs ^^

£ December 25th, 2014 3:46 AM

Merry Christmas, PC. <3

I hope you all find as much enjoyment as you can find in today. I'm having two family meals with my family today and tomorrow, which... could be pretty bad, actually.

The most Christmas-y thing we're likely to watch is the Doctor Who special I'd imagine. Never seen Elf, tbh. I'm not exactly well versed in Christmas films.

Alexander Nicholi December 25th, 2014 3:54 AM

Oh yeah! It's that time, right? It's still early here. The scent of partying is in the air here... it kind of smells but I like it too. There's so many people here, all family. It's great.

I feel like an awful gift giver because I have no money to throw at thoughtful gifts for my family. Distressed about that I ended up talking to Rodger and later my aunt about finding a job, and things are looking pretty good for me as far as options go. My cousin's boyfriend works at an Apple tech support place and is making $27/hour on Christmas today to help macfags with their My First PCs, and the $10/hr base pay made my eyes glisten a good bit, I'll admit. As much as I want it I'm definitely not going to bank on it, though. There's plenty of repair shops around the capital looking for a nerd with basic people skills to be a sales monkey and I can so do that.

moon December 25th, 2014 4:37 AM

Christmas is already over for me lol. I had a good one! Loads of food and booze.

moon December 25th, 2014 5:02 AM

I don't really understand. Did you get a cat and a mouse?

Galmar December 25th, 2014 7:42 AM

Great Christmas for me so far. I'm currently playing Omega Ruby and posting via my new laptop :)

Judge Mandolore Shepard December 25th, 2014 7:50 AM

It is a fine Christmas for me so far. Course I have not opened any of my presents yet, since I have to wait for eight other relatives to get up and arrive. So it will not be until after 11 AM when I will be opening my presents.

Aeroblast December 25th, 2014 8:01 AM

Such an ordinary Christmas I'm having right now. Not really complaining, though, but at least I'd feel better if there was a white christmas today here.

Pinkie-Dawn December 25th, 2014 8:58 AM

I've got a CD of the Megas and $220 for Christmas. My family is throwing a party soon, and my cousins would hopefully come and play Smash with me and my brother. I'm also listening to nothing but Christmas songs on youtube for tradition's sake.

TRIFORCE89 December 25th, 2014 9:07 AM

Merry Christmas~

The holiday of chocolate and video games in my household

Sir Codin December 25th, 2014 10:38 AM

Christmas is still on for me, but I got lotsa stuff already. Might get more stuff when my cousin comes, but here's da loot so far:

- Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
- Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide
- The Rise of Tiamat (D&D 5e Adventure module)
- Smart Phone Car Holder
- Razor
- $50 iTunes Card
- $100 Best Buy Card (for Pokemon Alpha Sapphire and Far Cry 4)
- Cologne
- Shark Idol carved in some country by some natives
- Dolphin Idol
- Grocery money
- GPS
- Clothes

Not a bad haul.

moon December 25th, 2014 11:48 AM

I played beer pong last night. On Christmas eve. With family. What... How...

Bellsprout December 25th, 2014 1:11 PM

i'm the happiest lil christmas girl!!!

Aisu December 25th, 2014 8:24 PM

Last minute Merry Christmas tho. Merry Christmas you guys!

Pinkie-Dawn December 25th, 2014 9:41 PM

I never had the chance to eat anything from my Christmas party, because I got full from eating tortellini for dinner. I feel so ashamed in my own hunger.

Mark Kamill December 26th, 2014 3:31 AM

No presents, but I did get 10 euros tips at work cause the customers were generous due to Christmas. I made maaaad bank in other words, compared to the two euros I get daily.

moon December 26th, 2014 3:31 AM

Is it time to start talking about the new year soon instead?

Yukari December 26th, 2014 7:21 AM

I dunno, I mean Christmas is over. At least everywhere I know of.

Alexander Nicholi December 26th, 2014 7:56 AM

That island between Alaska and Russia might still be doing Christmas. Probably.

That said, my cat is really comfortable with me and has helped a lot with stress and things. I dunno what it is about him, but no matter how awful I feel he makes me feel warm and happy inside. I like rubbing my nose against him like a cat would. We also got his litter and food sorted out today, which is great.

Christmas could be a lot worse I guess. Best to look at what's positive, right?

Pepperton December 26th, 2014 9:02 AM

This year my Christmas was uneventful, even a bit annoying as my allergies were acting up, but it was a nice night in with the fam watching movies and enjoying each other's company. I think overall, it was a good time.

moon December 26th, 2014 9:46 AM

I have now finished my christmas celebrations! Twice with my family, with different parts of the bigger family, and once with my boyfriend's family. Got a lot more great presents than I had expected, ate a lot of good food and drank a lot of good stuff. Yikes, best christmas in a long time!

Bellsprout December 26th, 2014 10:16 AM

My christmas is officially over but I still have presents to exchange with some friends lol. Weirdest gift I got was 40$ to mcdonalds... Only things I ever consider getting there are hash browns or mcflurries neither of which I really need so I gave it to my mom

Poki December 26th, 2014 11:32 AM

Poki put a little too much wine in her cola on Xmas Eve.

Alexander Nicholi December 26th, 2014 11:48 AM

A glass of rum + coke really took the edge off of me so I wouldn't be so uptight. I really don't need more than that to have a good time.

I'm always so much more excited for the new year. In with the new, out with the old. *_* sparkle

But yeah $100 is more than enough for me as a gift. Bought a game off of Steam some hours ago.. the rest will probably sit around for ages as usual.

Livewire December 26th, 2014 8:30 PM

I wasn't really a fan of New Year's for a long time because awhile back as a kid (I was like 9 or 10) I ate too much Hor D'ouvres at a family party and pretty much puked everywhere the whole night, haha.

moon December 27th, 2014 12:19 AM

In 2015, my life will start, kinda. I finish uni and will need to finally find a proper job. No more students bliss. It will be really cool.

Ivysaur December 27th, 2014 12:51 AM

My life started last year and I enjoy it a lot even if it gets boring sometimes.

Maybe I'll go back to studying one of these years though. The itch is still somewhere.

Mark Kamill December 27th, 2014 1:47 AM

2015 is going to be the first year since 2013 where we as a family will be living comfortably, steady income, electricity and all that first world jazz we suposedly should have. 2014 had all that, but the first half was very rocky. So yeah, bring on amazing super fun 2015.

Evening December 27th, 2014 3:58 AM

There's a good chance that, 2015 will be the same as other years for me. In other words, nothing will change.
Gahd I hate it.

Shining Raichu December 27th, 2014 4:50 AM

You're 13, not much is gonna change in the way of every day of life for another 5 years or so.

You'll be the one doing changing, not your life.

moon December 27th, 2014 4:53 AM

Are you kidding? In early teens, each new year was special and different and let me evolve and become more... Me, I guess.

Shining Raichu December 27th, 2014 8:45 AM

The basic frame of the day remains the same - get up, go to school, come home, perhaps be social, do homework, sleep, repeat.

Hikamaru December 27th, 2014 8:51 AM

Since real life always sucks for me, I'm hoping 2015 will capitalize on the success I had this year activity-wise. I know I had a bit of a semi-hiatus back in August caused by computer issues (and also having a short hospital stint to remove a lump on my breast) but at least my activity started picking back up from there.

Let's hope the year ahead goes worry-free for me, fingers crossed.

2015 will be a continuation of the droll of family and whatnot. 2016, a few months in, is what's going to be great. I'm out of this town and my own, prepared or not. And I'm going to do myself proud.

To anyone writing "my life will start next year" or "on x year", I hate to inform you that you're all very much alive and you're all using your finite time on this planet whether you believe your life has started or not.

Use it wisely. I'm using mine on a Pokémon forum. No regrets.

I thought about using it on applied physics, but decided computers would be easier money and also more fun because it's basically as profitable as being a mechanic without the bullshit of oil and messes. After all this time people still don't know how to automobile and I imagine it'll be a while before people figure out how to computer.

The most important thing is that you're happy to do it and can consider it a year of your life that you don't regret.

2014 for me was a year I don't regret, even though I split it between working, the odd social event, and being mostly a hermit. I've been happy for the most part, so I'd call it a success. Slightly more ambitious "finally moving out" plan is going ahead next year which could be wonderful. Or awful. We'll see. I pity anyone that has to listen to me for the next six months.

Unless you have children or work in a circuit court or something, I don't think anyone has to listen to you. I'm sure a few would want to, though. After all you're a nice guy and a realist and everything, who wouldn't. <3

2015 will mostly likely be no real change for me except possibly graduation from college in December (finally).

2016 is where the fun will really begin.

Livewire December 27th, 2014 2:15 PM

The year will be whatever you make it out to be, so if you want to have fun and accomplish stuff, then get out there and do it. Or don't, it's your choice.

2015 will be epic because I graduate in May and a ton of cool movies come out this year, haha.

Aeroblast December 27th, 2014 2:21 PM

Must say it was a stressful year with lots of college work. Learned a lot of things, though.

It'll be more of the same until I graduate and get a job, probably.

such as BATMAN VS MAN OF STEEL or something like that!!

Yoshikko December 27th, 2014 3:25 PM

Lol 2014 sucked for me but I think 2015 will be good, lots of self exploration and recovery!! Also love what I'm studying so that should be nice.

Warspirit December 27th, 2014 3:51 PM

I know 2015 will be better for me. I cut a lot of things out of my life this year, for the better. I learned a lot of things this year too that'll help me in the future, as well as working on self improvement. Through the 2nd half of this year I have been the happiest I ever have been about life. It can only get better from here. I have a lot of things lined up next year as far as hobbies go, finding new, good people to hang out with and other personal goals. I'm really looking forward to the next year to further everything!

I imagine the earth will shake as you walk onto that stage

in the only graduation ceremony that amounts to anything in people's lives. Good luck knight person.

I'm looking really hard at good employment as of recently. My situation with high school has recently become as flexible as a purple girl on Willy Wonka, and with how marginalized it is like that a job is becoming really feasible.

My cousin's boyfriend gave me a number to call and check out this call center place in Wake Forest run by Xerox where you get paid a base $10 an hour with double time holiday pay and time and a half overtime to help Mac users with tech issues. While I may not jump to that immediately and they may not well take me I'm definitely seeking that so as to cushion myself for oppurtunities awaiting me in Virginia Beach. It's good money, and if high school is over soon enough I could do some weekend shit shift job on the side for a little extra cash as well. If I play my cards right I could have my life set out nice, and how I like it.

2015 will be the same old for me (college semester, searching for a relationship, buying stuff I like, family trip to a theme park), but hopefully I'll get into the Comic-Con this year in case I won't forget when they'll start selling tickets.

Sir Codin December 27th, 2014 7:48 PM

2014 was a terrible year for me for various reasons.

I'm hoping 2015 will be better.

Her December 28th, 2014 12:09 AM

i can't say i believe 2015 will be any better than previous years of my life

Same. The only good thing I got out of this year was attracting attention from so many new fandoms on Tumblr and also my activity on PC being the best it has been in the 3 years + 9 months I have been on this forum.

I think those two things will only get better come 2015. Who knows, something awesome may happen as well...

Sheep December 28th, 2014 9:16 AM

2014 was pretty all right for me.. I finished classes December 2013 so it's been great no longer having to go to school. Very high expectations of 2015 though, to the point where it almost worries me since I really want to achieve my goals.

2014 was a train wreck. Bring on the new year!

Alexander Nicholi December 28th, 2014 11:33 AM

I think a lot happened for me in 2014, and also the tail of 2013, but strangely I don't look back on it all that negatively. I've attained a lot of personal growth and had so much of my life uprooted and replanted since December last year, and I think it was a large case of road rash in the scheme of life, really.

It was incredibly depressing and taxing – the outcome of everything that's happened, I mean – but maybe it will brighten up later on. I've lost a lot and in that loss I've strangely enough gained a sense of wisdom out of it I suppose. I think it'll make things all the better on down the road.

Stormerbuzz35 December 28th, 2014 1:27 PM

I can't wait for the year to just end already. I've had nothing but bad luck this year. Yesterday I posted about my 3ds and fear of it getting bricked. Today I come home after spending day with my fan and find it was stolen out the charging dock. It was near a high window in my room. Low light of my year.
