i think snoop had another epiphany and realised reggae was not for him or something
i can't remember the full story but he doesn't go by snoop lion anymore |
Either way, I preferred the D-o-double G. I wish I still had his casette tapes

Sparkles went away early because we ran out of glitter. Sorry people.
:T :P My own new year was spent....at home...doing pretty much the same thing I normally do. I know, it's boring. I think the highlight was when it turned midnight and suddenly there was the normal bunch of rattling and banging outside. For at least a good minute. Seems like a few people were more excited than normal to make noise this year. |
I was celebrating the New Year with some of my friends, and was having some great time, even though I celebrate it until about 10 PM that time. So, I'm in home, and hear many fireworks and all, long before the New Year. I guess many of us want to celebrate it quite early, right?

Reading all the hangover threads makes me glad I didn't drink all that much xD
I feel for you guys! Make sure to drink plenty of water! |
But it's not New Years Eve until you've thrown up Blue Curacao on your mother's Persian rug.

AND I'M RUNNING WITH THE D-R-E |
why would anyone say anything bad about Donkey Kong Country in the first place
it's perfect |
Some of my favorite games are RCT2, Pharaoh, Caesar III, Age of Empires (RoR + AoC/AoEIIHD), Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Minecraft (no hardware or bandwidth for that though), and ofc Pokémon. I'm pretty much 100% #PCMasterRace say for those pokemans
Oh, and I also like RuneScape. I'm a total oldfag about it, though there are people farther back than me. I quit at the end of 2011 and joined around 2007 so I'm not a tr00 oldfag but nonetheless I hate EoC like pretty much every other human on the planet |
Donkey Kong Country sucks.
. . . jk don't kill me pls |
DONKEY KONG COUNTRY IS A FUCKING MASTERPIECE AND I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE
|
Speaking of Donkey Kong, I've seen a couple of game hosts picking Tropical Freeze as their game of the year, despite hearing mixed opinions from the DK community due to the lack of Kremlings. One of my relatives also stated that the only way DKC will get a true revival is if Rare is back.
|
My dad likes to refer to Donkey Kong as anecdotal reference that I should go along with his undeniably conservative idea that video games are somehow extremely unhealthy. He's the most conservative Democrat I've ever seen, and he calls it King Kong because like all people dying of terminal old they mix up names between action movies from the 1950s and arcade games from the 1990s because fuck memory for things amirite
|
Idk if Rare could save anything. Everyone looks back at games like DKC, Banjo Kazooie and so on and just think of Rare as this company that churned out masterpieces...but they're more of a company that got lucky with some amazing franchises. Look at all those horrible LJN games they developed *shudder*. Besides, aren't the main people that made those same games amazing a part of various Nintendo 3rd party groups?
Also, DKC2 is the otp...one true platformer. |

I had more of an issue with Donkey Kong Country Returns than the old games. The game got too easy with the amount of lives you could get. It's a pretty game though, if that still counts for anything.
|
There's nothing wrong with Retro's work on Donkey Kong Country. Kremlings is simply cosmetic. The game play is there, solid, and refined.
|
I don't know, depends on what you mean by "retro" because we're getting to the point where a lot of 3D games are now getting lumped into the category.
So how far back are we talkin'? 20 years? 30? |
Would you call modern games with pixel graphics - such as Rogue Legacy to paint a picture - retro"? What fits under the definition or classification of a game being "retro"?
|
I'd classify anything that people saw as old-school, such as the 80's and 90's game systems, to be "retro". Even some of the classic arcade style games are what i'd deem such. That may not be much of a description but it's what I see that as.

Super Mario World best platformer anyone?
Anyone? No? Okay. http://i629.photobucket.com/albums/uu18/xHBWx/tumblr_lweqj7EFLC1qennrl_zpsebtplld5.gif |

Movie Bob/Game Overthinker disagrees, for he finds Super Mario Bros. 3 the best Mario platformer, as well as best platformer in general, since Super Mario World was held back by the SNES's limitations due to being one of the first titles for the system, unlike SMB3, which didn't have those limitations. |
me: plays bayonetta and live vicariously through her
|
I want to start a new Fallout 3 game, as I have not played it in a while, but dammit I can't seem to get off here and stop talking with you fine people.

I play a bit too much AoE. I should really get back to development.

I don't like Super Mario Bros. 3. The levels are tiny. And I think I'm the only person on the planet who doesn't find its visual aesthetic to be the definition of the Mario series. I like the new power ups like the Racoon and the Frog.
Super Mario World is refined. It is a little bit more on the easy side, but the physics and level design is bliss. Plus Yoshi. Hidden exits. Great music. |
the thing about DKC is how beautiful it looked. it's easily the best-looking platformer from that era. and the fucking MUSIC was also incredible. and to add to that it was just great fun.
I never actually played Super Mario World much, but I love SMB3. |
The only Mario-related game I play is on SNES and only works some of the time. I'm grateful that the system itself still works at all, though.
hi I'm back <3 |
I REALLY liked Super Mario World, that one was good stuff. But Super Mario Bros. 3 was too difficult and I never actually finished it.
oh dear goodness not again |
I downloaded Super Mario Bros 2, and The Lost Levels on my 3ds, but I never even came close to beating either of them because I have the attention span of a goldfish.
now you don't have to miss me, pendraflare :D |
Super Mario Bros. 3 comes at a close second for me in terms of 2D Mario platformers. It isn't as refined as World, but it's still a blast to play with another person and mock each other for fuck-ups.

I hate Mega Man and have never played a single game. I didn't even choose Megaman as my Smash Bros character.
|
I remember watching a Mega-Man cartoon I think but I don't think I ever played the games. :o
|
I never got into any Megaman games except the Battle Network ones for GBA. Gah those were the days, I miss it sosomuch sometimes.
|
The Megaman cartoons were the best.

megaman
i always hated that because it seemed dumb to me as a kid even though i'd then go and watch sonic x as if a bunch of animals driving a spaceship with a green alien on their way to different planets to find chaos emeralds was any less dumb |
Quote:
And regarding the cartoons, I wasn't fond of how they made some of the characters buffed up, not to mention turning Proto Man into a villain. P.S.: Sonic X is way worse than the Mega Man cartoons *points to Chris* |
I like the older games but I've never seen the cartoon...I saw very little of the Sonic cartoon as well
|
According to the Nostalgia Critic, Sonic SATAM is the only Sonic cartoon worth watching, because every other variation are mediocre.
|
I grew up on the Mario cartoons. I have fond memories of those. The Zelda ones too.
I saw very few of the Sonic ones, although I own this book somehow http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/sonic/images/b/b3/SecretAdmirerBook.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width/200?cb=20110819214637 I watched more of Sonic Underground growing up then I did SonicAM. Which isn't saying much as that was still negligible. I caught more of the Donkey Kong Country show than I did anything Sonic And a whole lot of Pokémon. |
Sonic SATAM bored the crap out of me. Then again a lot of video game cartoons from the 80s and 90s make me cringe. I used to love that shit as a kid though. I'd watch a bunch of them back when Yahoo had old cartoons online. I guess a lot of cartoons just feel horrible with age, not all but a lot.
|
The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was just plain wacky and nonsensical. Then again, maybe that's why I liked it so much.
|
Given how much of a Nintendo fan I was growing up, you would think I would have watched more Nintendo/other video game based TV series as a kid. Other than Pokemon, obviously.
|
Everybody here is talking about all these different video game cartoons they watched growing up, and I'm just here like: Pokemon.
I did love my cartoons as a kid, though. Scooby Doo, Tom and Jerry, Samurai Jack, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z... You know, the good cartoons they used to play on TV. Ugh, I sound old. |

Are we talking about old cartoons? I love that stuff. The Rugrats was probably my favorite. I find that it's still kind of funny to watch as an adult because you suddenly understand the adult parts of the show, like the time grandpa Lou rented a porno. Digimon was probably my favorite cartoon though. Digimon was my childhood. DIGIMONZ

Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! were two shows I grew up on. I always remember waking up Saturday mornings just to watch them.
|
I could never get into Yu-Gi-Oh. I guess I just saw it as a cheap knock-off of Pokemon at the time.
|
I used to love Yu-Gi-Oh!, but no one played by the rules. I mean, summoning three Gaia, the Dragon Champions in one turn as regular monsters? WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?
Also, how the hell do people play Pokemon TCG without prize cards? !!! |
Yu-Gi-Oh had too many rules and bans to follow and it was a waste of money to buy booster packs and decks so I gave up on it when I was like 10 or 11.
|
I hated Yu-Gi-Oh because of it tried too hard to be all "dark" and "edgy" to the point it was so corny.
"BELIEVE IN THE HEART OF THE CARDS" That's why I hated evil/dark Ash from the epsiode where he fought frontier brain Brandon in Pokemon: Battle Frontier. When ash was possessed by the king of Pokelantis i cringed HARD, such a poor attempt on trying to make a "dark" moment in the show. And I did enjoy most of the Hoenn Anime. Quote:

As far as Cartoon Network's old shows go, I like to present everyone this: Spoiler:

I miss that show that was like a bunch of young kids saving other kids from evil adults and their headquarters was like a huge tree, I don't remember what it was called

Dexter's Laboratory was and probably still is one of my fave cartoons. I was soooo disappointed when it ended... sigh. I wish it was still on TV here in the UK.
Apart from that though, I watched far too much SpongeBob and The Fairly OddParents as a kid. SpongeBob isn't so good nowadays, but I still love FoP. Some of the newer episodes are great. |
The only modern Cartoon Network show I still watch on a regular basis is Adventure Time. The show was a godsend to a heavily declining TV channel (When it first aired 5 years ago).
I've seen the horse with poo-brain episode soooo many times. And the backstory with the Ice King and the Great Mushroom War is just so deep. |
Regular Show > Adventure Time > Other Animated series right now
|
Yep, Adventure Time is pretty much my favourite cartoon at the moment. Regular Show is also great, but I dunno... I've grown to like AT more recently.
|
I really can't get into Adventure Time, I've tried watching it and I just don't get it. I prefer the 90s shows.
|
Are we talking about old cartoons?
http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/original/5/58127/1744388-smoke.jpg Let's Get Dangerous! (aside, I tried to get on a TV show recently to discuss how great and important older episodes of The Simpsons are. That didn't pan out) |
Darkwing Duck is awesome.
I'm also fond of the early Spongebob and Fairly Oddparents episodes. But who could forget THIS? http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kablam.jpg |
Ah, the memories of older cartoons:
|
I just recently stopped playing yugioh for mtg lol.
never tried pokemon tcg before. I just like the games! As for cartoons....thunder cats ho! Johnny quest....and all the Saturday morning stuff hehe |
Isn't thunder cats that one where it's done with puppets?

I really loved Star Fox 64, back in the day. Never played any other games from the series, for some reason.
That and Zelda OoT were the N64 for me as a kid. |
Starfox 64 was the only game I played at my cousin's house. Our cartridge was broke or something when we bought it and my mom never took it to get a replacement
|
The star fox game on GameCube was awesome, I'm still in love with it to this day,
|
Which one are you talking about? One of them really, really sucked in my opinion.
That said Starfox 64 was pretty awesome. But I, personally, enjoyed Zelda OoT and Super Mario 64 a lot more. |

I find it interesting how critic might love a game, but fans might hate it. |
I've never played a Starfox game at all, but I'd probably have to be introduced to the series to understand it.
|
I've never played a Star Fox game either. I've seen playthroughs of the 3DS version and I remember watching my cousin play through some of the Gamecube version. That's about all the history I have.
