Pokewalker: Are you using it?

Pokewalker was introduced in the fourth generation. It's a device that served as a pedometer, but also had a lot of really cool functions. You could have your Pokemon get experience just by walking, but you could also get various items and Pokemon just as well.

So, did you use it, are you maybe still using it?

As for myself, I am finishing my first SS run, and havent used it YET. I am however planning to use it. My current plan is to get a Pokemon, probably shiny from Platinum, trade it to SS and carry it with me in Pokewalker but I have yet to see.
I was thinking about getting a Shiny Eevee, evolve it into Umbreon and carry it with me for sometime and then transfer it to the latest generation. It would be a tribute to my cat that recently got loss which I miss quite a bit.
After that, I'll just carry some cool Pokemon for fun :D

Aslan December 25th, 2014 1:37 PM

Nope, I never had one in the first place as my games were downloaded onto an R4. I remember it being really popular at school during the initial release of HGSS though! If you ask me, I love how it not only encourages exercise but also rewards the player with items and experience. I'm also a fan of being able to take your pokemon with you, even if its not the exact same thing as the anime or games. Overall, it was a really cool addition and one that I'd of love to have if given the chance. :]

Hikamaru December 26th, 2014 1:08 AM

Sadly I didn't use it, but that's mainly because I found it a hassle to get started and the battery died since then.

Xebelleon December 26th, 2014 1:12 AM

Had used it. Battery died and its replacement has never been a concern. By the way, I actually removed the dead battery just in case of issue.

Got a Surf Pikachu from Yellow Forest. Naive with HP Ice of some power. I'm fine with that

Bounsweet December 26th, 2014 1:50 AM

The PokéWalker was sooo amazing that it's been a sole reason for me restarting my SoulSilver game once in a while. I love fitness to begin with, so for Pokémon to develop its own pedometer so that I can play little mini-games and carry my favorite Pokémon around with me? Ugh, it was heaven. Sadly the battery has died twice on me already now, and I haven't been bothered to replace it because of the new Pokémon games I've been playing.

I really wouldn't mind replacing the battery whenever I decide to restart SoulSilver or if I miraculously get a good deal on HeartGold.

Warspirit December 27th, 2014 10:55 PM

omg the mere mention of the Pokewalker's name makes me sad. I washed my darn thing back in 11th grade on accident :( Then I tried to fix it but it never worked again. I wanted to buy a replacement so bad when it first happened but I got over it. I used to wear it to school, even though people would pick on me, and it was the coolest thing to me.
I heard somewhere that the Pokewalker is one of the most accurate pedometers.

curiousnathan December 28th, 2014 1:35 AM

I used it for about a week and then lost interest and then actually lost it. I've only just recently found it while cleaning my room, but I don't plan on using it...ever haha.

mikey December 29th, 2014 11:41 AM

I used it a lot in the beginning when it was new. I liked it a lot. I used it on my runs. I eventually lost it and never found it. If I do, I may use it again because I still play HGSS a lot. Idk.

Jakeings December 29th, 2014 12:43 PM

I used it when it first came out, but ended up giving it to my dad who walks the dog every day to get the maximum perks :P

Dedenne1 December 29th, 2014 7:05 PM

lost them lol
but I did use them before when it first came out haha mostly when I biked or hung out I kept it in my pocket it was kinda fun :)

a lot of pokemon you couldn't find were in the pokewalker so bonus!

Guardian December 30th, 2014 2:02 AM

Feel free to vote "Yes" if you used them before but not now guys ^^

Pendraflare December 30th, 2014 4:52 AM

I don't have my PokéWalker anymore, and even when I did it was never something I properly understood. But if I still had it, it would at least be a decent pedometer (although nowadays I have my 3DS for that).

Judge Mandolore Shepard December 30th, 2014 7:03 AM

I actually did use the Pokewalker. I recall I was able to get a whole lot of steps in before the battery died. Course when the battery died, I lost a Magneton.

How did you lose it? You can retrieve a Pokemon from the Pokewalker if the battery dies.

CoffeeDrink December 30th, 2014 8:44 AM

I think I'm going to start it up again. Question: when you restart the game anew, do you lose the events and event cards (I think Yellow forest was an event) and I don't want to lose it just in case.

Google is your friend.
This time though, I am lol. I checked few sites and it seems like you do, since with restarting the game you will consequently have to resync the pokewalker and therefore (probably) lose all the data.
I checked only few sites so be sure to search for the answer yourself just to be sure.

Red1530 December 30th, 2014 6:20 PM

If I can find my Pokéwalker and my DS, I would be using it.

Oreanna January 2nd, 2015 9:28 AM

I don't have one, but planning to buy one someday. That's what I get for getting a used game.

LilyAnn January 2nd, 2015 8:45 PM

If I still had mine, I would. I loved it. It was really cool and fun to use. But sadly, my washer ate mine and destroyed it. Still sad that I never really got to use it like I wanted. :c

Tek January 3rd, 2015 12:36 PM

Since summer '13 I've racked up 4 million steps and over 200 rare candies so... Yeah I use mine a bit.

And @ warsmith, yes, you will lose all your watts, steps, and routes when you start a new game. If there's a route you don't want to lose access to, you can keep a pokemon in the walker, start a new game without retrieving the pokemon, and then use only the "receive gift" function instead of "return from stroll".

I already have a Xatu that I've permanently assigned to Sinnoh Field for gathering rare candies :]

Zehn January 3rd, 2015 1:27 PM

Does it still work with the current gen, yeh I have mine still, it has a scratched screen and I don't use it

Thankyou for the information. I'll have to figure out how to keep Yellow Forest. Why does GameFreak do this? The events drive me nuts. Catch them all huh? Yeah right. . . now Yellow Forest will be lost to time.

Bellsprout January 6th, 2015 10:52 AM

Lol this is hilarious because I recently was going through my games and found my pokewalkers and I was like "omfg these things." So needless to say, no I haven't been using them... I actually forgot they existed.

I ended up losing my precious Aerodactyl to the Pokewalker because I forgot I had one on it and I restarted my game............ oh well

p!kachu January 6th, 2015 3:12 PM

I never had one. I bought Soul Silver secondhand to get it less expensive. I'm also waiting before I but Alpha Sapphire for the same reason.

PikaSamus January 6th, 2015 7:39 PM

I did for about a few months after I got the game. I lost it, though, and when it was found, I didn't use it and still don't, so I'm going to answer "no" on the poll.

magicalgirlj January 27th, 2015 6:36 PM

Yup it is awesome. I have been so busy lately at the Skills Development Center that I don't have time to use it. I think it is a great way to encourage kids and gamers to get of their butt and exercise.

DyingWillFlareon January 27th, 2015 8:41 PM

I missed out in HGSS hype, but last week I ordered a SoulsSilver from Amazon that included a Pokewalkr, like 70 bucks. The Pokewalker came in last week with the box and everything, but the game wasn't there.... The dude apologized and sent the game over saying it was forgotten so it's probably going to be in tomorrow but I've already played with the Gastly on there a couple times. XD
Going to retrieve those items and Pokemon and send them over to Diamond before I restart it though. At least Gastly, it grew on me. ^_^U

Astinus January 27th, 2015 8:48 PM

I just started using my Pokewalker again. I needed a pedometer for a competition I'm doing at work, and the Pokewalker is the most accurate pedometer I own. It's also the reason why I have both HeartGold and SoulSilver, so I could have two Pokewalkers.

That's a weird thing to hear. I had to replace the battery in my Pokewalker after not using it for months, and it kept all my information and my Hoothoot safe.

CoffeeDrink January 29th, 2015 5:42 PM

Got myself a brand spanking new 3V battery! Now all I have to do is restart the game and Poison my way to victory! I might do a Lyra run this time through and retire Gold.

Sonata January 29th, 2015 11:07 PM

I used it for about a month after the games came out. Unfortunately my teacher took it from me in the middle of class because he thought for some reason it might be a distraction and then he lost it in his desk. He ended up buying me a new one which was really nice of him because I had told him to just forget about it, but I didn't use it after that. It's still sitting in the packaging that he got it in in my room.

Synerjee January 30th, 2015 9:11 AM

I've never gotten the chance to use the Pokewalker as I've never bought physical copies of HGSS, but instead played them on emulators. I would like to use them though. Looks like a nifty way of levelling up your Pokemon while not actually training them, collecting items in the process.

Hiatus January 30th, 2015 9:08 PM

I was actually intrigued to see how PokéWalker would work when they had first announced it, and after getting a copy of SoulSilver, I gave the device a shot as soon as I was able.

It was nifty, in a way, as this had given us chance to level-up our Pokémon and whatnot while carrying PokéWalker in our pocket, if I'm not mistaken, but sadly, like almost everyone else on here, I eventually wound up losing interest.

When I'd first tried, I believe I transferred a Zubat. It got raised by around ten level, but unfortunately, I never got around to having the Pokémon taken back. It's still in there somewhere, if I'm not wrong. Though, I can't seem to turn the device on any longer; I might have to replace batteries for it work again.

RedJ January 30th, 2015 10:51 PM

I used it quite a bit when HG/SS first came out and I was conveniently still in school at the time, but I never used it again after I graduated and now it doesn't work anymore. Probably just needs a new battery, though.

Pachireecko January 31st, 2015 8:28 AM

I used it for at least a year after the games came out. At one point I used to carry two around with me after I bought Heart Gold as well. The amount of Cyndaquil I levelled to lvl 100 using those things......

Sheep February 4th, 2015 12:23 PM

I hardly used it myself.. but my friend did volunteer to take it off my hands and get steps for me during work. :D She brought it with her for two or so years and I ended up accumulating soooo many steps from that.. except it took her several more years to even return it and by then I'd already played HG/SS to death. Oh woe is me.

CoffeeDrink February 5th, 2015 3:09 PM

I recently started using it again. It's been four years since I said hello to that Pikachu. I'm rearing up to restart the games, as I feel I've completed all I can complete, and creating a new story and going through the games again will freshen my memory. Here's to walking.

harakuru February 12th, 2015 2:08 AM

Of course. It's the only way I know to get a Pikachu with surf or fly. And it's an excuse to finaly move your *** from the couch xD.

Altaria February 12th, 2015 12:17 PM

Unfortunately, no! My fiance was going to bring his from when he was a kid when he moved down here but sadly it got put through the washing machine before it made it here. *crai* I never got the chance to mess with it. Seems like they're nearly impossible to find nowadays. T-T

Meadow February 12th, 2015 3:21 PM

I actually have been using it up until a few months ago, when the poor thing finally died. I had a lot of fun with it, though, and I always brought it with me when I planned on walking long distances.

SiriusDusk February 13th, 2015 5:19 AM

I absolutely loved that thing but I lost it anyone have a link to a cheap one?

Psychic February 17th, 2015 7:56 PM

I love the Pokéwalker! I still keep mine in my purse today, so it goes everywhere with me. I have currently walked 4,151,729 steps in total, and have had to change the battery 2-3 times. I've been working on training my Meowth to level 100 (yay Pickup). A friend helped me unlock Winner's Path, so I use it to hoard Dragon Scales and Reaper Cloths. :D

~Psychic

CoffeeDrink February 17th, 2015 11:48 PM

Been keeping it in my pocket over the week. So far in the past three days I've accrued nearly 3000 watts. Pretty cool. Initially I didn't have a Pokémon in the walker, but Pikachu joined me! Lucky!

Sydian February 18th, 2015 7:40 PM

I honestly used it once and never bothered again after. :( Plus, I don't know which is my Japanese walker and which is my English one. Oops. lol Apparently, the PokeWalker is one of the most active step trackers though. Ayyyy!

Guardian March 15th, 2015 4:40 AM

Just wanted to pop in and tell you guys that I find Pokewalker awesome. I've been using it for a week or so now and its really cool. Im holding it in my jacket so it collects a decent amount of Watts, and getting Pokemon and items is pretty fun so if you have it, try it out!

Smileycorp July 13th, 2015 2:25 PM

This is too traumatizing to talk about :'(

Did anyone else lose one of their best Pokémon due to the pokewalker being easy to lose?

RIP Rotom lawnmower form...

I will always remember the day you beat red's Blastoise and pikachu...

I cri everi tim

:'(

Sun July 14th, 2015 1:35 AM

I have used it during the HgSs era, but I try my best to hide it as I don't want people seeing me with a PokéWalker.

Palmer-Granate December 9th, 2015 12:56 PM

That was the sole reason I went to Zellers, so I could purchase HeartGold, and the PokeWalker along with it. I remember catching a LOT of pokemon, Smoochum being a primary figure in my rush-and-brush squad.

I lost/broke it and still morn it to this day. Since I've had SoulSilver stolen from me, I'll buy another package, with another PokeWalker, if things go well.

Firox December 9th, 2015 1:04 PM

Mine is long lost - with Amie, DexNav, Soar in newer versions, don't think I plan on going back to the Pokewalker.

Did have fun using it - when I lost it, I also lost my high leveled Rattata.

Kaiyu December 12th, 2015 9:54 AM

When I first got it I used it a lot. Nowadays I don't use it as much. It's fun to have though. It reminds me of something I used to have when I was a kid.

Guardian December 13th, 2015 8:39 AM

I dont know how long this thing is supposed to work but I've been using it for 10+ months now and the battery is still alive lol. Also it's funny how getting Dratinis was never this easy :D

khaozz December 14th, 2015 12:13 PM

I still have my Pokéwalker, and I still use it, even to this day. In fact, I just took Burnsy (my Typhlosion) out for a walk a few hours ago!

Bounsweet December 14th, 2015 1:57 PM

I really liked it a lot honestly, it was a fun addition to the gameplay. I've had to replace the battery on it twice already and it's probably already died again, but I did use it a lot when I had it. If I ever get around to replaying HGSS for whatever reason, I would probably change the battery again to use it while I play.

Desert Stream~ December 14th, 2015 5:23 PM

I lost mine, but I used to use it.

Pond December 17th, 2015 4:21 PM

I no longer play HGSS, but when I did, I loved my pokewalker! I used it all the time, whenever I went out. It was so cool (in my mind). I had the gift dialga in it. c:

ßritto December 17th, 2015 5:55 PM

I think that it was an awesome idea how they wanted to promote exercise while rewarding you with Pokémon and even items, however I used to play my games through an R4 which meant that I didn't own any of the accessories which might of came with the offical games.

Itcheeee December 18th, 2015 8:47 AM

When I got to fnish the post-story bits of HG/SS, I'll probably carry the Pokewalkers safely sealed in my backpack. I wouldn't risk using the clip xD I used them for a while when I first got HG and later SS, but never really fnished unlocking everything.

Pebbles January 29th, 2016 1:56 PM

i used it all the time back in the day
loved the thing
cannot remember where it is now though, too bad

Electricbluewolf January 30th, 2016 9:31 AM

I'd like to re-use it, as being a dog walker I'd rack up so many steps it'd be unbelievable.

I recall I did have my Suicune on it before it ran out of battery-might have to rescue him soon

Otamajakushi January 30th, 2016 11:39 PM

I used it a ton, back in the day. Alas, I stopped using it during Gen 5, and haven't used it much since. I do plan on reusing it some day though!
