For the Charmeleon one char plus chameleon.
~Ultimate_Trainer~ |
some hilarious things here :)
|
Forretress could be from "turret" + "fortress"
Milotic: lotic means calm water or moving water (I forget which, the other being lentic); not sure where "mi" comes from |
darkrai□dark+cry
this one is for fun shaymin□CHI-CHI-CHA-CHIA |
I think the Gardevoir line is missing
Garden(??) + Devoir(french for "must" or so I remember) and... Empoleon - Emperor + Napoleon(leader) Torterra - Tortoise + Terra(meaning earth) Infernape - Inferno + Ape |
Salamence is actually Salamander + Menace, but without the A.
|
Or it can be Salamander + Commence.
Turtwig-Turtle+Twig Piplup-Pip+plup ??? Chimchar-Chimp+Charcoal Grotle-Grow/Ground+ Turtle Prinplup- Prince+plup Monferno-Monkey+Inferno |
Gyarados - gy (as in gynormous) arados (as in the end of some dinosaur names)
well, that's just a guess :\ (yep, total noob :P) |
OK here's the possible Gardevoir line
Gardevoir - Garden + Devoir(french for must Kirlia - Curl - Lia??? Ralts - Rats? + Waltz Gallade - Gal? + Blade And the DP starters Turtwig - Turtle + Twig Piplup - Pip + plup Chimchar - Chimp + Charcoal Grotle - Growth + Ground + Turtle Prinplup - Prince + Plup Monferno - Monkey + Inferno Torterra - Tortoise + Terra(meaning earth) Empoleon - Emperor + Napoleon Bonaparte Infernape - Inferno + Ape |
For pikachu it means for Pika in terms of Japanese it is Pikapika which means to sparkle. And chu is a noise that a moise makes. And it is official Moltres=Molten+Tres(3)
Zapdos=Zap+dos(2) Articuno=Artic+Uno(1) |
Ahh... I'll do this cuz I'm bored.
Mismagius - Mischievous + Magic Bidoof - Bide + Doofus ??? Bibarel - Bide + Barrel??? Frosslass - Frost + Lass Gliscor - Glide + Scissor Tangrowth - Tangle + Growth Do ya think Swampert can be Swamp + Expert!?!? |
First off whoever put in Darkrai's name in is wrong.
Turtwig=Turtle+Twig Grotle=Ground+Turtle Torterra=Tortoise+terra(Latin for earth) Chimchar=Chimp+Charred Monferno=Monkey+inferno Infernape=Infernal+ape Starly=Starling Staravia=Starling+Avian Staraptor=Starling+raptor Budew=Bud+Dew Shinx=Shine+Sphinx(or lynx) Luxio=Lux(light)(and/or Luxor)+Leo(lion) Luxray=Lux(light)(and or Luxor)+x-ray Roserade=Rose+Masquerade Cranidos=Cranium(Hence the moves are mostly head based like Zen Headbutt) Rampardos=Ram(or Rampart)(Hence that it uses its head to ram enemies) Shieldon=Shield+don(means tooth) Bastiodon=Bastion+don(means tooth) Burmy=Bur+Wormy Wormadam=Worm+Madam Mothim=Moth+him Combee=Honeycomb+bee Vespiquen=Vespa(meaning wasp)+Queen Pachirisu=Pachipachi(meaning electric crackling)+risu(meaning squirrel) Buizel=Buoy+Weasel Floatzel=Float+Weasel Cherubi=Cherry+Ruby Cherrim=Cherry+Blossom Ambipom=Ambidextrous+Aipom Drifloon=Drift+Balloon Drifblim=Drift+Blimp Buneary=Bunny+ear(hence the usage of it's ears) Mismagius=Michievous+Mage Honchkrow=Honcho+Crow Glameow=Glamour+Meow Purugly=Pur+Ugly(lol) Chingling=(Named after chimes of bells) Stunky=Stink+Skunk Skuntank=Stink+Skunk Bronzor=Bronze+mirror Bronzong=Bronze+Zhong(a zhou dynasty bell) Bonsly=Bonzai Chatot=Chat+Parrot Spiritomb=Sprit+tomb Gible=Giblets+Nibble Gabite=GabuGabu(means guzzling down)+Bite Garchomp=Gar(named after it's snout which is replicant of the fish)+Chomp Munchlax=Munch+Relax Riolu=(A pun that if you realize in Lucario it is the last 3 letters and the first 2 letters put together) Lucario=Oracle+Lupus(Latin for Wolf) Hippopotas=Hippo Hippowdon=Hippo+don(meaning tooth) Skorupi=Scorpion Drapion=Dragon+Scorpion Croagunk=Croak+Gunk Toxicroak=Toxic+Croak Carnivine=Carnivore+Vine Finneon=Fin+Neon Lumineon=Luminescence+neon Mantyke=Manta+tyke(child) Snover=Snow+Cover Abomasnow+Abominable+snow Magnezone=Magnet+zone Electivire=Electric+volt+wire Magmortar=Magma+mortar Leafeon=Leaf Glaceon=Glacier Froslass=Frost+lass(hence it being a Female evo) Rotom=(A pun of saying it backwards which would spell Motor) Azelf=Aztec+Elf Cresselia=Cresent |
Hmmm... I always thought Shieldon was Shield+On as in the SHIELD is "ON" its head, or it could be a combination of the words SHIELD and MastodON(which is an ancient species of elephant which lived around the Ice Age). Or the name could be poking fun at those (in)famous HeadOn commercials they show during daytime TV and 24 hour news channels.
I also thought Bastiodon was a combination of the words BASTIlle(which was a French prison, and it's face plate looks like a castle) and MastODON. I could be wrong though, since I just checked Wikipedia on this. Stunky could be the words Skunk+Stinky or Stunk+Stinky put together. I believe Skuntank is a combination of the words Skunk+Tank. I'm definately not sure about this, but I think Shaymin's name combines the two words Shy and Mini. |
Well if you look above I got most of the Sinnoh name meanings.
|
Yeah Daisuke is right you didn't get Darkrai's name meaning right,
Darkrai's name comes from Dark+Kurai which is Dark (English) and Kurai (Japanese word for dark) |
Actually, ~Daisuke~, Azelf is for Azure + Elf. Azure is blue in Spanish, and Azelf is a blue Pokemon.
|
My bad I looked at it wrong. Your right I was looking at serebii and couldn't get it.
|
Mismagius may mean Magic too.
Skuntank is Skunk + Tank. -_- Mesprit - Mesmerize(its a word, idk how to spell) + Spirit Uxie - ??? + Pixie EDIT: I found Dusknoir - Dusk + Noir(french for Black) |
Solrock: Sol(sun in spanish)-Rock
Lunatone: Luna(moon in spanish)-tone (stone) |
Any one knows what the name Rekkuuza means? Something to do with sky I think.
|
did you mean rayquaza? its a combo of ray and quasar
|
No, it doesn't have anything to do with quasars (there are no quasars where he lives, they're out in the space). Kuu is japanese for sky. The Pokemon lives in the sky, right? I would like to now what the rest of the name means. Maybe you're right about 'ray'.
|
well, his japanese name has a different meaning than his english then
|
Actually just to clear something up...
Mesprit = Me (Because Mesprit is connected to the main character) + Sprite (Which is a fairy) |
Quote:
erm.. also Clef as in double clef and for gyarados could come from gyakusatsu massacre/slaughter, and gyakkyō, hardship/adversity. Both words relate to the creature's violent nature and the hardship it experienced before evolving. The dos may just indicate that it's the second in its evolutionary line i think dos means the same for all poke's tht have it at the end ariados.. |
