Classic, really without permadeath there is no challenge.
The resetting for a character death because of permadeath is no different from going to the last checkpoint when you die in super mario bros.
If there's no challenge at all then what point is there in playing it at all, you might as well watch a Let's Play if you only want the story.

Laguna April 27th, 2015 11:27 AM

Hey guys, I'd like to sign up because I like Fire Emblem (duh), I've played all the GBA ones, Shadow Dragon and Awakening and can't wait for FE14 =3

Username: striderviper
Preferred Class: Swordmaster, I like using Guy and Joshua and Lon'qu and other swordmasters I might've forgotten, 'cept Say'ri, she's mediocre.
Favourite Character: Well, I like Hector from FE7. As in, a lot. As in, he was on my profile picture before I got this one and it was awesome.

As for whether I like casual or classic, I played FE7 first so classic for me. There's nothing wrong with using casual imho, but I like the added challenge since there's actual consequences to screwing up.

Pinkie-Dawn April 27th, 2015 2:08 PM

I pick classic, because everyone's belittling easy difficulty and want Dark Souls/Battletoads level difficulty, so I must go with the flow too, unless I'm playing Lunatic mode.

Nah April 27th, 2015 2:12 PM

Usually I do Classic, but I'm one of those people who restarts the chapter if someone dies. Because fuck losing a valuable unit to bullshit hax or some other shit.

RedJ April 27th, 2015 5:25 PM

I stick with Classic, but if a character dies then the only way I'll reset is if I need them for a particular pairing. If I ever play Lunatic, though, I'll probably go with Casual because I can barely make it through Hard, so I can only imagine how painful Lunatic would be.

Salzorrah April 28th, 2015 1:24 AM

I really hate when someone dies, and I was just about to finish the chapter too :/ I just ragequit, then come back haha

Lumina April 30th, 2015 7:56 AM

What's this? A club for one of my favourite game series?

Username:
Abba
What's your preferred class?: Dark Flyer (Galeforce ftw)
Who is your favourite character? Lucina, Severa, Noire, and Ephraim. You can't make me choose one.

tbh permadeath is the only fun way for me to play. Having it turned off just makes it way too easy, you don't have to put as much thought and effort into your moves. Yeah, I always reset if I lose a unit, because lol fuck that I'm not losing my guys, but it still keeps the difficulty in that I now have to restart the chapter, and this time think of a way to not have someone die.

That is, until the mid- to end-game, of course. By that point literally everyone on my team is unkillable because of how many times I've reclassed and maxed levels.

I'm currently at Chapter24 in FE:A, on Expert/Classic. Gonna try a Lunatic/Classic after I beat it.

Only ever played Sacred Stones and Awakening tho. Still fave :^)

Pinkie-Dawn April 30th, 2015 12:38 PM

We finally know the name of the dancer from Fire Emblem If; her name is Aqua, not to be confused with Kingdom Hearts' Aqua mind you.

Salzorrah April 30th, 2015 9:58 PM

Oooh, I wonder what would Aqua's role be in the story... I'm guessing she has a tie with both kingdoms perhaps?

Lumina April 30th, 2015 11:52 PM

Does anyone ever even use the Dancer class?

Salzorrah May 1st, 2015 12:06 AM

I do, with Olivia. But I usually use her with Donnel coz support :] And you can actually make her fight, so that's a plus.

saifors May 1st, 2015 1:48 AM

The most useful Dancers Are Ninian and Sylvia, Ninian for things like Ninis' grace and Fila's Might, and Sylvia because she dances for all 4 units around her. Tethys and Fee are pretty good too, Olivia is best of reclassed to swordmaster.
By the way, http://serenesforest.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/hoshido-w-amiibo-150x150.jpg Amiibo confirmed

I made Olivia into a Dark Flyer, does that count? lol

Salzorrah May 1st, 2015 2:59 AM

I never reclassed Olivia coz she's pretty good just with the sword. As long as she is paired with another guy.

Judge Mandolore Shepard May 1st, 2015 5:43 AM

When it comes to using the characters of the Dancer class this is how much I use them:
Ninian - hardly ever
Tethys - hardly ever
Olivia - only enough to unlock the Paralogue to get Inigo

Lumina May 1st, 2015 5:49 AM

I just used Olivia to get Galeforce on Inigo, I never use her for anything else ever. In my opinion, one of the most useless units.

Aren't dancer units in general useless in combat?

Yeah, but I mean useless in general. Yeah they can give one unit an extra turn, but I always have my units rush the enemy, which means a dead dancer.

Nah May 1st, 2015 6:31 AM

Funny thing about Dancers is that they have an amazing ability, giving a unit the ability to take action again after already doing something. It's kinda like Galeforce, and we know how good that is. But then there's the fact that all Dancers (and similar classes) are always so ridiculously weak and easy to be killed, which makes it very hard to make use of their great ability.

saifors May 1st, 2015 11:54 AM

Olivia is without a doubt the most useless Dancer, mostly just because she's Awakening's dancer, and she very easily becomes obsolete because of your-regular-neighbourhood-game-breaker GaleForce.
Also Awakening favours rushing the chapters over taking your time and strategizing, making her only useful in the first 1 or 2 turns by letting another unit move slightly farther, as a result she won't gain much experience, previous dancer's could at least act as a dodge-tank after a certain amount of levels, but mostly because other FE games allow them to keep up (even FE4 with it's maps that are so big that by the end of the game you've literally explored almost the entire continent).

Euphoric May 1st, 2015 1:17 PM

Only time I use Dancers is for the arena glitch.

Salzorrah May 1st, 2015 10:13 PM

I disagree, I find Olivia somewhat usable, if not useful. As long she is paired with someone, it's fairly easy to level her up, plus her supports are pretty cool, I guess.

saifors May 2nd, 2015 12:41 AM

So apparently there's been an interview with If's dev team and hese are the key details:
Quote:

The Nohr campaign features diverse victory conditions, such as seizing a location, breaking through enemy lines, defending your base and maps with turn restrictions.
Up to Chapter 5, the game is exactly the same, but the rest of the game–5/6ths of the game–follows a completely different story depending on your campaign choice.
The concept of choice was heavily inspired by the player’s choice between Arran and Samson in the first game, Dark Dragon and Sword of Light.
Players who purchase the download version can play up to Chapter 5, but then must download the Hoshido or Nohr campaign to continue–the first campaign can be downloaded for free.
The third campaign (DLC) is roughly halfway between Hoshido and Nohr in difficulty. You can also adjust the difficulty partway through the game.
Sounds like Nohr is getting quite a bit of fun stuff in exchange for no world map.
So far it's really looking like Nohr is like all FE games while Hoshido is just Awakening 2.0 (even though they advertised it as traditional FE).
Definitely going Nohr, way more variety and more promising.

Salzorrah May 2nd, 2015 1:55 AM

What if if's main storyline is actually the third campaign? That would be sick tbh. I mean, like you said, Hoshido is basically an Awakening 2.0, and Nohr is the traditional FE game. I wonder what twists would they add in the neutral campaign haha.

Nah May 2nd, 2015 4:10 AM

I don't get though why they're making the 2 campaigns play kinda differently. Why not just use the good aspects of both traditional FE and newer FE?
