You just found out you are moving out of your country.

So, what would be your first place to go? What country do you love to live in most of all? Why?

For me, it would either be Japan or the UK. I love both countries. Japan is the home of anime and stuff so... that'd be a plus. I also love the UK because it seems like it'd be really cool because the culture is pretty neat there.

Alexander Nicholi January 18th, 2015 11:18 AM

Once there's fibre in Singapore (I think there is now), I'm off. I hope to God I don't end up homeless.

For the sake of argument let's say I got my dream job of being mobile IT. I make... $4K a month. That's about $50K a year, give or take, in USD. I would love to go and live in Delhi, Amsterdam, Tokyo, Kyoto, Sydney, Singapore, Hong Kong, Rome, Geneva, or even some place like Hamburg or Paris. Anywhere I'd go I'd be in the upper part of town, in a condo/apartment with plenty of access to luxuries.

maccrash January 18th, 2015 11:24 AM

Norway. or anywhere in Scandinavia. somewhere in the middle of the countryside.

kyuubi93 January 18th, 2015 11:57 AM

Canada. It's not that far from Murica' and I have cousins that lives there, so it's an easy choice. I visited there when I was a young child and would love to be there again.

Kura January 18th, 2015 12:34 PM

Probably back to Canada? Or somewhere Scandanavian because of English and gov benefits. As for other English speaking countries.. I'd have to think. Not the US because of their horrible benefits. I'd visit Singapore, or HK, and Australia or NZ and see what it's like first before deciding as I don't know anything about how it'd be there. Ireland's economy I heard isn't great right now. I wish Dubai didn't have so much controversy because it looks beautiful and rich but I'd feel really unsafe there.
If I could speak other languages.. that'd be a tough one. Probably Germany, though. I'm not big on France, South America, and I heard that Italy and Spain aren't doing too well. Everyone says Japan.. but actually living there? No thanks.. I don't want to get overworked at my job. You work like 6 days a week and have 0 holidays. I'd love to visit, though.

pkmin3033 January 18th, 2015 1:38 PM

...but I love my country! I can't imagine leaving! Excuse me whilst I freak out for a few moments (or, more likely, a few days, or right up to the actual event) whilst I try and process this.

If I had a choice, I'd either go to Japan - for what I would hope are obvious reasons; it's the center of anime and video games, I'd be in paradise...I can't speak a word of Japanese, but I would be willing to learn.

Failing that, I'd quite to go to New Zealand; it has some truly beautiful scenery and, if I can't go to the center of everything I love in life, I'd like to surround myself with unparalleled natural beauty with a climate not too dissimilar to home...one thing I couldn't cope with are increased temperatures. I'm not an active and outdoorsy person by nature, but that's primarily because I've explored pretty much everywhere that's easy to get to in this area. Put me in New Zealand and I probably wouldn't go online for any longer than an hour a day at most, I'd be too busy exploring the surroundings.

Entermaid January 18th, 2015 2:22 PM

So many place I want to go and visit, but these would be places I would love to live.

Denmark
Netherlands
Switzerland
New Zealand
Japan

Gardevoir the Dragon Slayer January 18th, 2015 2:32 PM

I would be happy with:

Japan: Great Culture, interesting language, Brilliant public transport, Anime and Games are a draw.

Germany: Great Architecture, language and Countryside.

Iceland: (not sure about winters however) I love it there is crazy, but great.

Belgium: Its such a nice place to be lovely people as well, plenty of Chocolate and History to take in.

I Also wouldn't mind The Republic of Korea, Australia, and would be happy with most of Europe.

GhostTrainer January 18th, 2015 4:23 PM

I'd go to England, considering that I already have family that lives there.

zakisrage January 18th, 2015 4:59 PM

Probably New Zealand since it's not too far away, or Argentina or Lebanon because I've got family there. I'd probably do well in any Middle Eastern country that isn't ruled by Sharia.

Sonata January 18th, 2015 5:10 PM

Canada or Japan. Please. Thank you. I couldn't stand living somewhere where we weren't up to date technologically but I don't really like anywhere too historically rich so Rome, Europe, Italy etc. are out of the question. Japan would be a great place to be since they have a lot of cultural things that I like but I don't really know about living there for good, maybe just an extended vacation. Canada though would have to be my number one choice. Free healthcare, nice people, beautiful scenery, sweater weather. Yes.

Pinkie-Dawn January 18th, 2015 5:36 PM

Either Canada, UK, France, or Japan for the scenery, amusement parks, and entertainment media. My only concern is the food, because I'm really picky on what kind of food I eat.

Sir Codin January 18th, 2015 5:36 PM

Probably these ones:

- Netherlands
- Norway
- Germany
- Canada
- United Kingdom

Bellsprout January 18th, 2015 6:29 PM

I live in the us, I really want to move somewhere tropical. All I want to do is swim in clear waters, drink/smoke on the beach, and eat exotic foods for eternity.

Brendino January 18th, 2015 11:57 PM

Realistically, I'd probably end up moving to the United States. Before I moved a few months ago, I could actually see right across to Washington State from my back porch, so it's not like I'd be moving across the globe.

If the logistics of moving anywhere I want aren't a problem though, I'd pick one of New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, The UK, Ireland, or Bermuda in no particular order. All of them are for different reasons, but at least I'd be comfortable enough with the local languages, since I know enough French, and could probably get by with learning a little Norwegian/Swedish from family that lives there (or, I could just go hunt down Rika and use her as my personal translator).

Hikamaru January 19th, 2015 12:01 AM

If I was ever forced to leave my land of Australia, I'd definitely pick Japan or New Zealand in a heartbeat.

Japan because it's the capital of cute and it's where all the good Pokemon stuff is, and I have relatives living in NZ so it wouldn't hurt being closer to them.

Skip Class January 19th, 2015 1:11 AM

Plz guys I don't want to leave New Zealand and y'all are coming here

Knowing me if I moved to another country, I'd probably come back - It's hard to leave xD
If I had to choose:
Japan: Not because im a weeb who likes Pokemon, Anime and all them Japanese Entertainment, jdramas, jpop or whatever. I just have a huge interest in the culture and mostly a lot art and design-wise in Japan. Also there's loads of places that seem really cool to visit and I'm all for the sightseeing. The people there seem incredibly nice and polite and Japan as a country seems great in general.

Australia: Since it's across the ditch and there's probably a lot of opportunities there if I find it hard to find work here in NZ. Also haven't been to Aus since I was a kid, and when I did go I loved it to bits and it would be awesome to go there again even if was to live there. Also don't like being toooo far from home, and Australia is quite close.

I'd also go and see other places like Germany, Italy and Canada, but I guess first two are priority.

Lotus the Cat January 19th, 2015 2:54 AM

Saying NZ seems like it's a cop-out because it's basically the same as being in Australia. ;)

I'd love to live in Vancouver, Canada, because it looks beautiful there, has good healthcare and is chill. I think the culture shock from Australia would be minimal in comparison to many other countries. I don't think I'd cope well with the cold winters though.

jinkies @ the posts about moving to japan because anime
i'm sure you'll be treated so nicely once you arrive

i dunno where i'd go
france is certainly an option given that it's my birth country and i still have citizenship, and therefore i believe i could get gender reassignment costs covered under the medical care system there. if i were to move there, i'd prefer to live on my own or in an apartment since i don't really talk to my relatives and i wouldn't wanna be a burden on my aunt since she has so much going on already. plus, she lives in nice with the rest of my relatives bar my grandmother and i'd rather live in my home city of paris if i had the choice. but, france is a shit hole and as much as the possibility of free medical coverage is tempting, i don't think i could calm my conscience enough to live in a country so publicly displaying its descent into hell.

as much as i loathe australia, it's close to new zealand and i know a few people there. but i'd only ever consider stepping foot in that country outside an airport lounge if i absolutely had to, for school or whatever.

i wish i could live in italy or greece, but i'd need to have a more than rudimentary understanding of the languages to stay there and currently i have 0% comprehension of either language that doesn't come from the assassins creed series. not to mention if i moved to greece i'd go broke within 45 minutes.

the uk is probably one of the more viable options although with my current bank account i'd have to live in a closet under the stairs just like their current supreme literary icon. i'd probably have the most realistic chance of 'making it' there out of all the other countries thus far.

realistically, despite how much i like to call it an awful country and demean it at every possible opportunity, i suppose i'd end up settling down in america for a few years. dunno what i'd do long-term, but i'm close to enough people there to have a place to stay for at least a couple of months while i get everything together.
i just loved broadway too much last time i was there to write it off completely

Saki January 19th, 2015 3:37 AM

As a Canadian I'd love to go to Japan... but the Netherlands would be a really good choice, or Sweden. The latter two being more like a legitimate plan and the first being just for the awesome experience (I want to eat some sushi there hehe). Japan has a fascination with North American as much as we have a facsination with them so I can't see being completely unwelcome there. In fact I am more likely to be unwelcome in a french speaking part of Canada hahah. No idea though.

Australia would be neat to because of the wildlife and warm temperatures. I also know a couple there there.... the UK is another choice. There are too many choices!

Dreg January 19th, 2015 4:18 AM

One place I'd mostly go is Croatia. It's a place where I've wanted to go, Split mostly. I know a tiny bit of Croatian which could help a bit and I'm willing to learn more.

Other choices:
Cyprus: even though it's economy isn't great, I'd still go there because of the sunny days as well as the culture.

Iceland: One place I've wanted to go to in the Winter to experience the Northern Lights... as well as the heavy snowfall. I've heard that you don't have to pay for your heating bills there because of the heat from the volcano, but it may just be a rumor.

Gibraltar: One of my most favorite places to go. Everybody is really nice there, also the climate in Gibraltar is excellent. Really love the place.

Circuit January 19th, 2015 9:00 AM

The thing is, this happened to me. Last May.

I got a phone call from a Manager of Siemens UK offering me a place in their European Scholarship Scheme for 2014 (after a test, interview and cv appraisal etc.) and I accepted. What this meant however, is that I would have to move out of the UK to Berlin, Germany, for 3.5 years. Now... When you're 18 and even moving out to Uni is scary, I'm amazed I still went through with it. Now I'm here, Berlin is a great place to live, and I really enjoy it here.

If I had the choice of course, Berlin would probably not be on the top of my list. My first choice would be Tokyo, Japan. I love the Japanese culture, and I'd be perfectly happy to live there to learn about it, and the language of course (have studied for 2 years, but of course, when not speaking it regularly it doesn't really go in). After that I think anywhere with a different language and culture to my own would have been great.

I Think you have to pay but its really really cheap because its Geothermal energy from the volcanic lava.
Electricity and heating my be cheap but the downside is everything else is really expensive becase its mostly imported and tax is really high.

Jayce January 19th, 2015 10:07 AM

I would say either Ireland or France. Dublin or Paris specifically. I went on a trip to Ireland about a year and a half ago and fell absolutely in love with Dublin, I've been dying to go back and would jump at the chance. But I've also been very attracted to Paris for a long time and I'm really interested in the culture there. The only downside is that I don't actually know French, but I figure I can work on changing that.

Ice January 19th, 2015 10:28 AM

I would choose America, England or Japan. Mainly because I have faith in my capabilities to English, so an English speaking country would be alright with me, and Japan seems fun, just because of how bizarre that culture seems to me, and how amazing the music scene is over there. But I probably won't, I've got all my friends and family here. If my parents want to move internationally, I'm going to get my own apartment in Nijmegen, Amsterdam or Alkmaar. I hopefully start with uni in a couple months, and will be living in a dorm, so I leaving everyone else behind would not be on my agenda. Although, if you're going to study you're going to meet loads of new people anyways, and to study English at an English university would be awesome too.
