Boom. Quite the megaton, no?

I think at some point it'll be "Windows 10" and "not Windows 10" when it comes to Windows market share if this works out well. (No, it's not a subscription. Once you switch, it's forever.)

Ooh. This is certainly an interesting development. I'm curious to see what brought it about, and I might be making the switch myself if certain factors come into play.

I'd rather wait to see what it's like and if there are any problems with it that are addressed by other users before I ever make a switch. I'm too comfortable with Windows 7 and apps that are only compatible with XP/Vista/7.

Was expecting a free upgrade from 8.1 but a free upgrade from 7 is a real game changer. At least if there are any compatibility issues with 10 they can be resolved in the year of it's availability. The new features look like they're finally unifying metro and desktop layouts, and giving windows phone a revamp should give it a edge other mobile OS'es. I like that they're focus is also on smaller tablets, so W10 should make the £70 windows tablets more intriguing than android offerings.

Hopefully they'll streamline W10 more so that it doesn't suffer from the instability that 8.1 still has.

I wouldn't mind to do the free upgrade to Windows 10 if I wanted to, but I need to check if there are some compatibility issues or not at first, or if all of my data will be kept intact. I don't want to find some troubles after switching, for sure.

^ This pretty much. I'd wait till it cools down and see what other people say about it.
I'll also probably upgrade one of my laptops to Windows 10 and test it out for a while to see if I like it or not.
If I don't then at least it's just one laptop that's got it like my one PC that has Windows 8. If I like it, then I might as well switch all of my laptops/computer to it.
No doubt, if I like Windows 10 more than Windows 8, I would will upgrade my one Windows 8 computer
into Windows 10.
