Windows HoloLens
Looks like Microsoft are delving into the popular world of VR. This is an augmented reality headset that uses holograms. It is planned to work with a range of programs, such as Skype, as well as games like Minecraft. They are said to be see-through lenses, have spacial sound to hear behind you, as well as advanced sensors. There is going to be a built-in high-end CPU, and GPU, holographic processing unit (whatever that is) and more. Sounds interesting, and if it's anything as good as the trailer shows; I'll be excited. What do you guys think? Just another cash-grab, or is it a step in the right direction for Microsoft and Windows 10? |
It looks cool and all, but until we find a way to get rid of that hideous headgear, I don't think holograms are so feasible in the real world.
I do like the idea, don't get me wrong. |
I was skeptical when I initially saw the video, but it seems to be the real deal, and though I can't remember where I read it, it seems the end goal is for NASA to be using it with the Curiosity rover by July of this year. It looks like a nice piece of tech. It's apparently not just a screen inside of some headgear, either.
I am excited to see if anything consumer-grade will come of this within the next 10 years. |
I just saw an article on this posted on DigitalSpy - the 'preview' video looks amazing, but I would be pretty surprised if it actually works as seamlessly and as easily as that ><. I think the suggestion that people will want to be wearing it around their homes 24/7 is a bit of an exaggeration too.
