Thoughts on the changes in Mauville?

I, personally, disliked the new Mauville. Someone mentioned that they should have made Lilycove the main city, like it seemed to be in RSE.

What are your thoughts?

Shishoki January 25th, 2015 6:26 AM

I don't like it either, Mauville was my favorite city in RSE. I was so dissappointed to see it's completely different D: I agree that Lilycove should have been the main city, if not Sootopolis.

Navenatox January 25th, 2015 7:03 AM

I can't say that I don't like it. I think the idea of it being one huge building makes it kind of unique compared to the other cities. Also now there are actually many new interesting things to explore, as opposed to the old Mauville which I always found pretty boring. In my opinion it was so empty, I never really felt comfortable there, idk.

What I do dislike, however, is that, because of the new layout, it takes you very long to get from one side to the opposite, pretty much like in Fortree City.

Starry Windy January 25th, 2015 9:01 AM

When I visit Mauville City for the first time, long after not visiting one in RSE, I was surprised and confused because it feels like a totally different city, but after a bit of navigation, I started to getting fond of it a bit. The revamp also makes Mauville City having lots of new stuffs, like Inverse Battle facility, a whole new park upstairs and all. I used to not liking the new Mauville City, but my opinions begin to change as I begin to visit it much often nowadays.

Altairis January 25th, 2015 6:44 PM

I like all the new stuff they added but I don't like the design at all. Why is everything indoors? It makes it all seem pretty cramped in my opinion. Though I'm glad they tried a new city design, I just hope they don't implement another indoor city because I didn't like it that much at all.

TheUnit684 January 25th, 2015 8:49 PM

I didn't really mind the change. Mauville was one of those cities that was just the Gym, two interesting buildings (bike shop, casino), and a house, so I'm glad they did something. I just don't understand why they went with what they did. It's kind of weird. And, no, Lilycove doesn't have to be the main city just because it had the department store. There are allowed to be multiple big cities (heck, Rustboro is a pretty decent size, too).

OmegaRuby and AlphaSapphire January 25th, 2015 9:30 PM

It was a bit strange to have a city be practically a single large building.
I expected it to be nicer looking.
It's also not as big as Castelia or Lumiose despite what some NPC's seem to think...

Stormerbuzz35 January 25th, 2015 11:00 PM

I like how unique it is and that they added more stuff, but I don't like how long it takes to get from one end to the opposite. The excuse as to why the guy closed the game corner was really meh. Couldn't GF have thought of something better or have him speak in braille and basicly say why? Yes that wouldnt make much sense, but with pokemon games I like to think I threw some of my conventional logic away when I threw the first pokeball.

jombii January 26th, 2015 7:27 AM

Well, there was nothing much to be developed in Lilicove. Plus, Watson already had the plans in RSE for the refurbishing of the city, right?

I personally like Mauville City, although it felt more like a building than a city.

Also, no more game corner.

Bounsweet January 26th, 2015 8:26 AM

I liked the old one a lot more, but I don't dislike the new one. I do like how they used it to help explain the whole multiverse thing, too.

blue January 27th, 2015 5:43 AM

I've really grown to like it now. At first I was sceptical about the massive change, but recently I've been exploring Mauville Hills and what not and I'm actually really impressed. The only problem is that you can't buy the vacant apartment there. ;;

Pendraflare January 27th, 2015 6:11 AM

I know some people don't like it, but I thought it was a nice little thing that they turned it into something esque to the terminal of a train station. Or an outlet mall. Although there were some weird angles I still liked exploring it.

Hikamaru January 27th, 2015 6:41 AM

I know the new Mauville City has its haters but I actually liked it because it was something new and fresh for a city design, and the name sounds like it has the word "mall" in it and the layout does look a lot like a shopping mall. I enjoyed it so much better than the RSE Mauville City for that matter.

Shiro January 27th, 2015 8:15 AM

At first I was frustrated because I couldn't navigate it very well but I grew to like it? I think the design is really neat and it's fun to explore for me!

matt15rsp January 27th, 2015 11:33 AM

I like it, I just can't find my way round very well

SvelteDonut January 27th, 2015 4:07 PM

I love the idea of the top floor. It sorta reminds me of the platform around Gen IV Battle Frontier.

Mauville Hills though, is a mess. It took me a while to find Wattson's apartment.

Alfieri January 27th, 2015 4:18 PM

At first I was overwhelmed and lost but now I really like it. It has everything the old Mauville had (besides the game corner because gambling is a no-no for 10 year olds) but with more cool stuff.

Twilight-kun January 28th, 2015 11:16 AM

First time through, I completely missed the Bike Shop and Game Corner (Hey, three free dolls!)

It abuses the camera terribly and you get all these jarring transitions that screw up the controls

I hate it nearly as much as I hate Wally's "Battle" music...

TCB January 28th, 2015 3:39 PM

I feel they did a good job in revamping the city; to give more of a busier vibe considering it's the only city in the region with four desinated routes from each cardinal direction. First time playing through was a bit of a hassle; the camera didn't help either. That and a couple of areas were changed around, so I stupidly thought that finding their original places roughly would help.

I do like the addition of the Mauville Food Court. Only gripe is I wished they also had Triple and Rotation Battle options.

CountessGardevoir January 28th, 2015 6:57 PM

It looks a bit cluttered, to be honest

There actually is a triple battle option there, but only during the postgame and for good reason. The Street Thugs who battle you in triple battles are super tough, and have nasty competitive strategies their teams are centralized around, such as a trio of Prankster Whimsicott, Imposter Ditto and even two Lickilicky with a Lilligant that all have Own Tempo, protecting them from the Lilligant's Teeter Dance.

ilias_ January 29th, 2015 7:59 AM

They ruined the city imo. I don't like it at all. It was one of my favorites back in RSE :(

Oh snap a challenge then? While Rotation Battles (barring the Battle Maison) are relegated to a lone elderly woman in the same city.

It's kinda of a shame Lilycove (which was supposed to be Hoenn's equivalent to Celadon/Saffron, Goldenrod, etc doesn't really feel bigger to compensate.

skyluigi2 January 30th, 2015 11:56 AM

I like the new Mauville City. For a start there's much, much more to do there than the old Mauville. Makes it seem more advanced, which makes sense considering Wattson is the Gym Leader there. Perhaps he rebuilt the city or something? Either way, I am disappointed in the lack of a Game Corner, but I wasn't really expecting one, considering we haven't had a proper one since Platinum (Diamond and Pearl in Europe).

Orithan January 31st, 2015 6:11 AM

The Mauvile in the remakes is many times better than the one in the original. The original, after having seen it in Touhoumon Purple, feels bland and generic. Though something does feel off about Mauvile City being like some giant mall.
