I still play GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas because I haven't beaten them yet. I don't know that it's the same kind of deal, but I play the older final fantasy games more than I do the newer ones. I also play the old call of duty games a lot, like gamecube old. I really prefer older games over new ones.

Bounsweet January 26th, 2015 10:19 PM

I still play a lot of older games, I replay Pokemon Red and I play a lot of my PS2 games on the regular so it's whatever to me, I rarely play new games unless it's a game I'm dying to get first day or something. I love picking up an old game after going so long without touching it and reminiscing while I play it.

Ullion January 26th, 2015 10:35 PM

I've probably put more hours into Diablo 2 than I have into Diablo 3 since Diablo 3 has been released. Mind you, I play a mod for Diablo 2 that makes the game much better. :)

Sir Codin January 26th, 2015 10:43 PM

Most of the Final Fantasy games after 7 aren't as good as the old ones, and yet somehow keep getting sequels despite being financial failures.

Xebelleon January 26th, 2015 11:08 PM

I prefer Grand Theft Auto Four... Pokemon X > ORAS, first Borderlands, and Animal Crossing (gamecube). Still play DOOM now and then on my 360.

If you have a decent computer (meaning, any computer made after 1998), you should get it on PC. Controls better and the modding community is still active despite being older than at least half the users of this site.

Brendino January 26th, 2015 11:38 PM

I've got a fair number of sports games, but it's impossible to keep up with the yearly releases for each franchise, so I'm a bit behind on a number of them. Then again, if it's a sport like soccer/football where I don't keep up to date with all of the roster moves, I don't mind if it's outdated as long as playing it is still fun (just looking at my shelf, it looks like the newest FIFA that I have is FIFA 12, and I've got no problem still playing it, as I don't know 80% of the players in the game anyway, haha).

Satoshi Ookami January 27th, 2015 2:28 AM

I don't really play many games that have periodical sequels so in this case, I'm the same as Brendino.
Only sports games fall into category. So games like PES, FIFA, NHL.

Salzorrah January 27th, 2015 4:06 AM

I would like to say NFS Underground, NFS Underground 2, NFS Most Wanted (2005), and NFS Carbon is soooooooooooooooooooo much better than the newer NFS titles :x

CoffeeDrink January 27th, 2015 6:16 AM

I got ribbed for spending $15 on the entire Doom collection. I wanted to smack that man so hard in the mouth.

Ruma January 27th, 2015 9:03 AM

I still play the original Pokemon Sapphire, older Final Fantasy games, and Saints Row 2 and 3. Also Fallout 3, despite the fact New Vegas came out not too long after.

El Héroe Oscuro January 27th, 2015 9:14 AM

Call of Duty comes to mind when I look at this topic. Specifically, my friends and I still play Modern Warfare, World at War, and Modern Warfare 2 a bunch. As World at War was the first Xbox 360 game I had ever bought, it holds a lot of sentimental value for me (even though multiplayer is riddled with hackers nowadays.) Even with "higher graphic values", the newer Call of Duty games never really interested me - the first Black Ops was the last game I had ever bought in the Call of Duty series and I don't plan on buying another one...although there is a rumor going around that they are making a World at War II, which I'll most likely pick up if it's any good.

Gardevoir the Dragon Slayer January 27th, 2015 9:48 AM

One classic I love is the first Ghost Recon from 2001 for PC, I just love that game to bits. The one hit kill makes it great and more tactical.

Like others, I make use of sports games for a few years before getting a new one, for example am still using FIFA 2011 for XBox360.

Venitardus January 27th, 2015 12:01 PM

I still play turok on N64, pokemon emerald, and a lot of my ps2 games

Necrum January 27th, 2015 12:15 PM

Anyone who thinks that newer versions are automatically better, I direct your attention to the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

I daresay Sonic Colours and Generations are the best in the series, however.

The "older is better" mentality is toxic, too. I don't really care about a game's age, I care about its design

For what it's worth

My favourite 3D Mario is Mario 64, the first one.
My favourite 2D Mario is New Super Mario Bros U, the latest one.

I wasn't saying there wasn't good newer games, but we're also talking about the likes of Sonic Boom and '06. I happen to think that Lost World looks awesome, and I want a Wii U for playing it lol.

Dter ic January 27th, 2015 2:23 PM

Many PS2 games I owned come to mind. The burnout series in particular where Burnout 3 was the best iteration of the series by far. It had everything the existing games did and the new modes it featured enhanced the game. For whatever reason, the newer games in the franchise don't retain my much loved crash mode ;(

I still have SSBB which I play for the story mode even though Smash 4 exists inb4 someone mentions Melee

CoffeeDrink January 27th, 2015 2:58 PM

I also forgot I've been playing Unreal Tournament '04 recently. Then there's Alien Versus Predator '00 which I received for free from GOG, and I got Duke Nukem 3D Free off of Play Station Plus. And I still play all the Metal Slug Games, though I wish they released a collection for the Vita and the 3DS without any slow down. I even bought the Neo.Geo X Gold specifically for Metal Slug.

Looks like I'm gonna have to be that guy, then.

I do indeed play SSB4 quite a lot, but I'm guilty of still playing Melee simply for the exciting competitive thrill. However, unlike a lot of Melee players, I actually have full respect for Brawl and SSB4.

TRIFORCE89 January 27th, 2015 4:11 PM

A good game is a good game. Doesn't matter when or for what it was released

Sydian January 27th, 2015 8:16 PM

I play old games all the time! As long as the game is fun and I enjoy it, I'm not a stickler for when it was released, haha.

As for any preferences though, I'm not a huge fan of older Zelda titles. I'm just not very good at them and the interest just isn't there for me. I prefer older Harvest Moon titles to newer ones as well. The ones for the GameCube are a ton of fun, but some of the Wii titles I've played are a bit lackluster and run slowly, making them less enjoyable. With Pokemon, I think the series gets better with each release, though I enjoy all the games for the most part. I can easily go back to gen I or II after playing VI. Emerald is my favorite, for what it's worth. :)

Astinus January 27th, 2015 8:36 PM

I still play the Sims 2 despite having the option of playing the fourth installment.

A while ago, I played the SNES version of Final Fantasy IV, even though I have it for the DS. I wanted the classic feel of the game that I remembered, rather than a whole new experience with updated graphics and new features added.

probono January 27th, 2015 8:46 PM

morrowind and gothic 2

I never bothered with post-Genesis Sonic.

In fact, I don't even consider them Sonic games. More like "Onsic the Porcupine" games.

Also, this isn't so much of a game but rather a video game genre: First-Person Shooters. As far as I'm concerned, the last truly phenomenal FPS was Half-Life 2. Most shooters these days aren't as good as they were back in the day (with a few exceptions).
