DId You Even Finish The Game?

I'm just curious about how some people felt ORAS "lived up" to all the hype in mid-2014.

I myself was very excited to see that there was going to be a re-release of RS. I never particularly liked RS, but I did like the mechanics it introduced as well as a handful of the Pokemon.

However, I actually never finished RSE. I would get to Fortree Town, and the game would just "die" for me. I'm currently stuck there since December 2014 in ORAS and cannot get motivated to finish the game.

I thought the graphics would have made it a lot easier to get into the game. I thought, given that I enjoyed the premiss (being in Geography, the environmental ambitions from both sides really drew me in), that I'd actually be able to finish it this time. Especially with my completed DEX in X&Y and all the new Pokémon choices available Gen IV-VI, I really, really though that I'd enjoy the remake whereas I never finished the original.

Did ORAS live up to your expectations? Or did the reality fall short?

For people who played RSE and didn't like it, did you get that same sentiment with ORAS, or did you fall in love with the remakes (thereby changing your opinion about RSE altogether)?

If you didn't play RSE, did you enjoy ORAS and what it had to offer?

I'm more interested in seeing how many people played RSE and still didn't fall in love with ORAS, especially if it's a chore to finish the game, as is my case. I tried really hard to actually like it. I thought it would be easy given, again, the updated graphics, the appreciation for the premiss, the WiFi trading capabilities, the double daycares... I love contests and secret forts, and May's sprite is so adorable, but I don't know. Something was missing. Either that, or I've grown too old now and the magic is gone. Kinda like Christmas :(

For the record, I don't find it "too easy". The post-game legendaries, well, I'll probably never get there. The "drive" to play just disappears, and I'm wondering if it's happened to anyone else in ORAS.

It'd be great to see that ORAS changed a lot of other people's perspective on RSE, though. Alas, this was not my experience.

Crady February 1st, 2015 11:01 AM

I'm not demotivated or anything (nor does it bore me) I just defeated wallace, After pausing for like 2-3 weeks lol.

Planning to finish the game by this month.

Pendraflare February 1st, 2015 11:21 AM

I didn't really have "expectations" entering the games (except the Battle Frontier, but it's not just me in that boat). When I first played Omega Ruby, I got through it very quickly, and I only just finished my second playthrough, with Alpha Sapphire, last Friday. But I can understand what there was that people didn't like here.

Nekochen February 1st, 2015 11:36 AM

Well for me Ruby and Sapphire were my favorite. I loved the layout, the gen 3 pokemon, and story just everything. That was my childhood. In the old sapphire game I had over 600 hours logged from beating the game and completing my pokedex. I loved it so much. I'm sad my sapphire game was stolen along with my old ds lite but at least they finally remade gen 3. I been waiting all these years for remakes and now I can finally play them again <3

Howmander February 1st, 2015 11:53 AM

I had absolutely zero expectations, because as Star Wars Episode 1 showed the world, the creators of anything and everything don't have psychic abilities and cannot read every fan's mind in the world and make their product exactly like how the hundreds of millions of fans think it should have been made! ;-)

Now, Ruby and Sapphire were my very first pokemon games ever so because of that I loved them, everything about Pokemon I learned from Ruby and Sapphire, and I never played gen 4 or 5 so my entire experience with pokemon has been RSE, then XY, then Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby and because of that ORAS simply blew me out of the water. It was like a decade long wait for the real "third version" sequel to Ruby and Sapphire and there's not a single thing I dilike about it. I haven't event finished X and Y yet (999:59 hours and I only just got to the second gym because in that game I LOVE the breeding and berry growing that I literally spent all my time on that) but ORAS I did make sure I finished. The cut scenes really made it way more enjoyable than the original, and everything was so much bigger and more immersive that I just couldn't put it down.

Blueredemption February 1st, 2015 12:05 PM

I finished the game a week after starting it, so as far as motivation goes i had more than enough :P. As for expectations, i didn't really have any for it to meet. RSE never really made an impact on me when i was younger because i started with FRLG. I can see how those who played the originals in their prime may or may not have liked the Revamp enough to keep playing, but the only problem i had was the fact that grandma Winstrate didn't say she was going to smack me like in the past xD

antemortem February 1st, 2015 12:15 PM

RSE probably died for you around Fortree because it seemed like there was little to do with so much in-between the gyms. And I mean, there wasn't even that much - you had Team Magma/Aqua to battle at the Weather Institute and then a rival match thereafter to keep you busy. But then again, the route did feel a little stale and... idk, I thought it was always fun, and 5-7 badges is usually the most exciting point in the game. I did finish ORAS, though, and was more pleased than ever with the conclusion of Magma/Aqua.

Nah February 1st, 2015 12:19 PM

Very few games ever live up to the pre-release hype.

I've cleared the main story and the Delta Episode if that's what counts for completing the game. Spent a lot of time breeding, catching legendaries, and doing the Battle Maison. Will probably keep playing for quite some time.

I suppose I was expecting just a little bit more out of ORAS, but it's a big improvement over the originals imo.

That probably makes sense. The route from Mauville to Fortree is long, and then even after Fortree there's just so much space. It's not even the water. It's the space and the lack of stimulation.

I see my boyfriend (he's on his third playthrough) using Dive and getting to Groundon, Deoxys, etc. and it looks really interesting, but it feels like such a chore to push past all that emptiness to get to that point. And if I did, there'd be no replay value, since I'd be too stingy to redo the game only to get stuck at Fortree again.

I had a 'bout in X&Y where I stopped playing for about six months. Most recently, about three months due to exams, holidays, etc. but the first 'bout was due to boredom. I'm trying to do another playthrough in Y, but it's taking a while - not as bad as ORAS, though, where even the first playthrough is a chore for me.

I'm making sure to pickup all the WiFi and code events, though :pink_boogie: I'm'a try to push through it over the reading week. Maybe there's a certain "turning point" later on that makes up for the emptiness I'm experiencing right now. Everything up to Flannery was super awesome, but then, as I mentioned before, the game just goes ploof and straight-lines.

TCB February 1st, 2015 1:04 PM

The only main expectation I had before ORAS's release was the return of the Battle Froniter. That didn't happen, but seeing as this was a remake of a pair of games that were SEVERELY outdated compared to its successors I been dying to see what GF could do to it. For the most part they succeeded; the Hoenn region is more vibrant and I can remember it being in the original games and really empathized the 'abundance of nature' motif it had going. It didn't feel like I was trudging through the game compared
to RSE.
As for beating the game; I did so for my original copies of Sapphire and Emerald (in the latter I gotten all the Silver Prints from the Frontier and haven't gotten farther since) and completed the maingame of AS in a week.

To be honest though, which visually the region looks great, it really became a victim of itself due to its mapping; that's what X&Y did better that your movement felt so in place of the world because of the 8 way movement (yeah you were on roller-skates but still). In ORAS it sometimes feels...empty, ESPECIALLY on the route towards Meteor Falls.

I'll go out on limb and say HeartGold and SoulSilver were the only games in the series that REALLY lived up to my expectations and then some.

blue February 1st, 2015 1:08 PM

I was hyped for about a week, then I took a long break. I definitely expected myself to be way more engaged than I was at the time of the release and afterwards. I started playing again a few days ago and I'm actually really into it now, there's still plenty to do and I haven't even started with Omega Ruby yet.

Guest123123 February 1st, 2015 5:11 PM

I finished the main game + Delta Episode in 8 days. It not only lived up to the hype for me, it exceeded expectations. There were only 2 things I was disappointed by:
1) Battle Maison instead of Battle Frontier
2) The non-Hoenn legendary themes weren't updated

The first of those took me a while to get over, but it didn't ruin the game for me at all. Hoenn is my favorite region to explore, because of the environmental diversity and so many optional areas. I loved the Sea Mauville backstory, Mauville City's new look, seeing everything in 3D, E4 rematches with mega evolutions, unique personalities for Aqua/Magma leaders and admins (their dialogue was interchangeable in the originals), and the updated soundtrack.

RedJ February 1st, 2015 8:00 PM

I always really liked the areas around Fortree, but I can see why other people wouldn't since as far as actual things happening there's a whole lot of nothing...and Route 120 has that one trainer with the lone Milotic. That battle was more frustrating than it really should have been and it nearly killed my motivation to play.

As for the game itself, I was disappointed by the lack of certain things that could have made the games so much better (improved Safari Zone, Gym Leader rematches, Battle Frontier even though I've personally always hated those, ESPECIALLY Emeralds), but aside from those things OR/AS met my expectations and have managed to take X/Y's spots as my third favorites in the series (behind HG/SS and B2/W2). I never beat the Pokemon League in the originals because I was a dumb kid who thought spamming Hyper Beam was the answer to everything even though it didn't work, and it became harder for me to get into them once I moved on to the other games so I really wanted a more up to date version. I haven't been playing recently, though, but that's more a combination of burnout after playing it all the time from release until around Christmas and there being so many other games I want to play coming out. I'll probably get back into it closer to summer or they announce the inevitable new Pokemon game coming later this year.

morrison February 2nd, 2015 12:47 AM

I liked it, I dont play often asa i have other things to do but I liked it :)

Hikamaru February 2nd, 2015 1:10 AM

I managed to finish the main story in Alpha Sapphire in 21 days from starting it, which has been slower than previous playthroughs I've done lately but that may have been because I was busy with other stuff.

Still, it was great to see the first Pokemon games I ever played finally get the remake they deserved, and I was feeling all the memories as I was playing.

Nakala Pri February 2nd, 2015 6:04 AM

Yeah, I finished it! =D Haven't got into the Delta Episode yet, but I did ace the Elite and totally smack Flannery's hot cross buns. >:p

I wasn't actually THAT excited for ORAS, but it was a really amazing game! I mean, I wish contests were better (the 3ds camera is a NIGHTMARE) and making Pokeblocks wasn't automatic but it was still good! Would have been better if there was something fun to do between leveling up and challenging Gymmies. Whatever! It ruled! They made an awesome remake! =D They should be proud! 1000% better then X/Y. XD

atomtanned February 2nd, 2015 6:25 AM

I haven't finished it yet, but it takes me a long time to play through games. I no longer have the time to focus on one game and finish it quickly. When I do get time to play games, I don't always feel like opening Pokémon, especially since some parts of the game require grinding - not how I want to spend my time if I've only got a small break to play! So I jump around a lot between games, but I will eventually play through the main storyline at least. I'm still working on my Pokédex in X nearly a year and half later!

giradialkia February 2nd, 2015 7:03 AM

I dunno, I thought it pretty much lived up to expectations. I thought the storytelling was pretty excellent - they managed to fit Mega Evolution into the plot MUCH better than they did in XY, and maybe it's because they didn't have to go out of their way to introduce the concept. They managed to subtly add elements here and there that just clarified the story too, like how Rayquaza had placed a seal on the Seafloor Cavern.

What's more, the Delta Episode exists, and I have something to say about that.
Spoiler:
It's kind of the greatest thing ever. Not only did they flesh out Rayquaza's lore to a significant extent, but for once, they've given a bit of information about the timeline. The fact that there are now two separate Pokémon 'universes' is just awesome; I for one was expecting them to have to reintroduce Mega Evolution into all the older regions and so on, but with the revelation that Mega Evolution simply exists in one world, and doesn't in another, we just can't know what to expect from future games now. Just like the revelation of B2W2, they're throwing curve balls and their 'formula' isn't so predictable any more.

But to get back on topic, I totally finished the game in the sense that I've beaten the League a few times and have caught most of the 'sky legendaries'. Think 'finishing the game' has a different meaning when it comes to ORAS, since
Spoiler:
you literally choose what you want to do. Wallace says you can either go and take on the League, or just go and work on the Pokédex. It's pretty huge to me that they've made the National Dex available before beating the League, as well as increasing the number of Pokémon that appear in each route.

Flowey February 2nd, 2015 7:39 AM

I don't think I'll ever finish any Pokemon game, let alone Omega Ruby.
To fully finish a Pokemon game, you gotta catch 'em all, get all the items, defeat all the trainers, finish all contests if the game has it, etc.
No, just ain't happening... At least, not here.
Also, I never played R/S/E, never had a gameboy console... Only nintendo device I've ever had, and still have, is my 3DS

matt15rsp February 2nd, 2015 7:49 AM

Gen 3 was my favourite but it did take me a while to finish Omega Ruby. I got to the elite four then didn't play for a while and the same thing happened with the Delta episode

Altius February 2nd, 2015 7:55 AM

Completed the main game but stopped after champion rematch. I never bothered to play with the Maison and Wally rematch.

Did have a lot of fun soaring around and finding secret bases. Huge improvement over RSE in that department. Thank wireless for that.

SvelteDonut February 3rd, 2015 5:59 AM

I managed to finish (e.g. Delta Episode) both in the span of a week, and I still play quite a bit on both games. Currently I use AS for breeding and OR for training and Battle Maison.

PoK3Matr1x February 3rd, 2015 6:41 AM

I beat the elite 4, 3 times within a week, so yeah...

EJ February 3rd, 2015 6:56 AM

Yea I honestly didn't finish. I got to the 6th badge, paused for 2-3 weeks, restarted the game, and now it's been on pause before the first gym.

It's been a month or so since I touched the game. I wanna go back to it. Any advice?

Pinkie-Dawn February 3rd, 2015 9:23 AM

I've beaten the game at a very slow pace, due to me EV training my team and constantly soft resetting for the right natures.

Sabrewulf238 February 3rd, 2015 9:26 AM

I haven't finished it yet (just after catching Kyogre) but I don't think my break had anything to do with the game itself. I attempted (and am still attempting) a 7 pokemon team on rotation and it just didn't feel right (I like the Pokémon themselves, just not having a team of 7)....but I came this far with it so I'll push through. I don't like swapping Pokémon in and out of my team very much.

The last time I played I was worrying about whether I should evolve Lombre or wait until it learns Hydro Pump. It's things like that, fussing over little things that can also make me take a break from a game.

I started playing again today, just getting ready for the last gym and soaring around.

Sounds like my own quarrel :(

I'm trying to become motivated by the prospect of ORAS Move Tutor EMs, but if you're not a breeder, it's really not that wondrous.

The second half of the game is so drawn out it feels. Lulls me to sleepy.

luo xiang February 3rd, 2015 9:35 AM

I originally played RS when it was released, and to be frank, i liked it more than the rest. RS had a awesome feel to it, and it brings alot of good memorys. I personnaly think oras is fine and did not fall short. The story is meh, but that be said i dont play it for story.(i didnt when i was 12 either). I play to catch pokemon and fightwith My favorites. What i remember most about pokemon when i was younger is we didnt get together with my friends after school to discuss how cool the "plot" or "story" was. No, it was to kick butt with your kadabra and boast about it to everyone. (Only to be destroyed by another kadabra/legendary xD)
in hindsight yes the game was not perfect. But the story isnt what made pokemon. Now we r older and demand more substance. :p

YellowTemperance February 3rd, 2015 9:50 AM

The very first Pokemon game I had ever played to finish was a copy of Sapphire that I got for my birthday, I believe, from a very good friend of mine. I remember it fondly, only stopping once after getting stuck progression-wise in Lilycove City; I had no idea I could surf out to Mossdeep at the time and scrambled to find a Pokemon I could use to surf. I eventually finished the game, very proudly, with the Wailord I had captured to surf in my team at the end.

Alpha Sapphire was a refreshing wave of nostalgia for me, almost like it was my homecoming to the region that meant the most to me. And it lived up perfectly to every expectation I had of the game. I had so many new goals in mind for my own personal completion records: Not only did I beat the Elite Four, I strived to beat the Delta Episode, to accomplish a second victory on the Elite Four with my most prized team lineup spiritually ported all the way back from Generations IV and V, to achieve a Platinum Rank in my Secret Base--something I had never done before regarding Secret Bases--and to collect all the Mega Stones I could, as well as pick up and find every Plate for my most treasured Pokemon, an Arceus I got off the Dream World in Gen V. I accomplished every goal I had set for myself along the way, and I've very proud to say it was a complete blast for me every step of the way.

I find myself now more occupied with finding things to do. Contests don't interest me, and completing the Pokedex has never been a goal of mine in the first place... I think I'll head back to X and leave completing a Living Dex or anything to it. My adventure in Hoenn, barring the acquisition of some upcoming events--Hoopa, an eventual release of Volcanion, I'm looking at you two--is over for now.

Vegeta™ February 3rd, 2015 2:18 PM

Nope. Still standing outside the elite 4. All i do is sit on the chair and battle random people lol

If you're talking about once you start using Surf and have to go to Fortree City and from there on to the islands like Mossdeep City and Sootopolis, then i'm sure there are people who can relate to you with that from the original games.

In my recent play of Alpha Sapphire, I basically did another marathon through that part of the game after playing most of what was prior rather slow.

TheSonicMaster662 February 4th, 2015 9:48 AM

This Game Was Beyond My Expectations. I've already beaten the game and post game and I'm currently working on catching the legendaries and training for a rematch against the E4 and Champion.

Bounsweet February 4th, 2015 11:11 AM

I played the hell out of it in the first two weeks or so that it came out, I was playing it for many hours a day in the first week, beat it almost exactly a week after it came out, and then played around with the ending. I just restarted it again a few days after Christmas, but I only just beat Wallace a couple days ago, so I haven't beaten it yet with this playthrough. I think I just burnt myself out on it with the first one lol.

I do agree though that the game gets a little stale by the time you reach Fortree. It's always been like that for me ever since Ruby and Sapphire, I play the game like a beast the first time but with all my following playthroughs I get serious burn out around that area. It's pretty weird, actually.

K-A February 6th, 2015 12:05 AM

i didnt really feel motivate in my first play through of the game(I was excited at first but then i thought its just the same thing as the RSE), i didnt bother paying attention to the script stuff, i just went in and just steamrolled everything with the team i used when i played Emerald version(It really didnt help that they gave me Metagross right off the bat like that), i felt that i didnt do the game justice by not paying attention to the stuff they did, so i deleted my first one(after transferring all the pokemon i caught to the pokebank Legends and All) restarted my game Picked a different Starter and picked pokemons that i wouldnt normally pic(Decatty with normalate is pretty good) and talked to everyone i met and just went with my own pace and payed attention to what they were saying, and my second playthrough was a better experience.

TL:DR First playthrough was a chore: Restarted and payed more attention so second playthrough went better

Twilight-kun February 6th, 2015 2:47 PM

Yep, I finished my Ruby game

Took me a few years to puzzle out the Regi though (First time I ever used the internet to find something out about pokemon)

Ruby holds the title of being the first pokemon game where...

I ever got a pokemon to level 100 (Rayquaza)
Solo'd the Elite Four with one Pokemon (Rayquaza)
Played the game with each starter (Mudkip: Easy; Torchic: Medium; Treecko: Hard)

Alas, I lost my cartridge during one of my moves, which is a shame, so I was looking forward to playing the remakes...and got saddled with Alpha Sapphire

*sigh*

Why does Sapphire have Lotad? Should've been in Ruby...

Oh I haven't been a breeder since Diamond & Pearl haha. Maybe if I build a team out of pokemon I never use I might get excited.

It's interesting because I never played Ruby and Sapphire so I was excited to play these enhanced remakes but really I ended up being quite bored.

Altairis February 6th, 2015 5:33 PM

I've beat the game and completed the Pokedex! It lived up to my expectations and went beyond. I never would have guessed that Soaring and the Delta Episode would be available in game, though they only thing I was disappointed about was lack of Battle Fronteir and Gym Leader rematches, obviously. But everything else was stellar.

Would you say the Delta episode is worth giving this game another shot? I've heard some good things about it but not too much where it got spoiled. I really do want to enjoy this game!

Hmm, well if you already have the game and are wondering on whether or not to finish it, I would say go for it. There wasn't a WHOLE lot to do in it, because it's mostly an unexpected game extra, but I really liked it :] It provided insight on some characters and the history of Mega Evolution, so it was also interesting.

I'll give it a try then. Thanks!

Pendraflare February 7th, 2015 7:33 PM

I know Altairis already mentioned the Delta Episode, but I thought it was worthwhile. Even though most of the way is basically just going to different locations while you spam A and fend off some Team Magma/Aqua opponents, the climax of it is just awesome.

Belldandy February 9th, 2015 10:08 AM

I might move my breeding there, if I can manage to finish the game and complete the PokéDEX again. I have quite a bunch of Pokémon in bank, most legendaries, so it should be easier this time around. I really like May's sprite. That's really all that's motivating me to do anything.

The lack of post-game is very discouraging, though.

Will try to get another badge tonight... Maybe. Hm.

Chikara February 9th, 2015 5:05 PM

Honestly, I stopped playing right before battling Wallace :T

I'll probably finish up soon, it was just that the game lacked any kind of difficulty, so I lost interest after I caught Kyogre ;_;

Pendraflare February 9th, 2015 5:29 PM

It's a bit on the off-putting side, because I heard that they said there was going to be some massive post-game that was coming, but without the Battle Frontier, I think that was what a lot of people were really turned off by since they only had the Battle Resort and legendaries. And without much to do other than what XY had beyond the DexNav and mirage spots, I can understand why people don't like it.

Pepperton February 10th, 2015 7:12 PM

I thought it lived up to the hype, and I tried to make it last a few weeks to enjoy it more, but finished within a month or two of its release. I didn't mind the difficulty, actually. Maybe that's because of my team choices, haha d:

Oblox February 11th, 2015 9:14 AM

Id have loved it to be harder (gyms and elite 4 are stupidly easy) but i think with any pokemon game its what you choose to do after the story that makes or breaks the game as basically theres not a lot of content within the game itself.

Fill pokedex
Breed your perfect pokemon and raise to 100

Im currently working on the second of the above in ORAS then ill be going back to play X to finish the top option. After that...who knows. I may try out some battling or more breeding for double/triple teams.

Lunarose February 11th, 2015 12:13 PM

When I first heard about Pokemon ORAS, I was super hyped. Especially with some of my favorite Pokemon getting megas, like Altaria.
Once I got it, I'd get really distracted with smaller things like the dexnav or wonder trading, taking my time with everything and enjoying it since that's how I like to play Pokemon games. I hate speeding through them, I did speed through Emerald years ago and now it's not memorable for me anymore.
Paused for maybe a week or 2 at a gym and stopped playing, might have been the middle of the game. I officially completed it sometime in December, like a month after I got it lol.
The Delta episode wasn't that appealing to me.

I feel like the older I get, the less interest I have in these games or maybe they're just getting too repetitive or stale for me now. I can tell that many others might feel this way too without even realizing it. But I guess it depends on the person too. I just hope someday Pokemon can do something really unique, I'm not a fan of remakes in general anyway.

Belldandy February 11th, 2015 12:40 PM

The Delta Episode is really lonnnngggg. I didn't do it, but my boyfriend has twice now and God it's drawn out. Right at the beginning they won't shut up LOL Honestly 5-10min of just "B" "B" "B" "Hold B to go Faster" BBBBBBB!!!

I have so much homework, too, that there's no way I can focus on touching the thing :pink_frown:

I finished the game there are a few legendaries I still have to catch though.

I do want to mention, that although there were a lot of spam A+B parts of the game like Generation V and XY did, I think it works because there was a lot more involvement in the game based on Team Magma/Aqua and the rivals, so that's one of the biggest things that made it different was a more expanded adventure than the originals had.

KENSHlN February 13th, 2015 8:26 AM

I felt like the story was a bit too dry. (for a place that has 'too much water') xD
The idea of Team Magma and Aqua about their special motives has a ton of potential.
I don't think it was executed the best. So I feel like the game gets boring because of that.

But if you finish the pokemon league for the first time, the delta episode is the best story driven thing I've seen in the games. And that's the 'new content'
And I just hope pokemon keeps growing towards that direction. ^_^

No idea, you'd have to ask around the help section; sorry

agree; it's almost like GameFreak's attempt at an ORAS post-game was a rehash of the same tedious intro to.. just about every Ranger game ever

TheGhosteon February 14th, 2015 5:39 PM

I feel like I'm the only person who loved ORAS and has no complaints, other than no Battle Frontier, and even that's not really a big issue for me. I had Emerald when I was younger, so maybe it's because I didn't experience the originals. Either way, I did finish both Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, and enjoyed both of them a lot.

Nobie February 17th, 2015 10:14 AM

Finished the game + delta episode in 2 weeks. After that, I transferred the legends I have on my X then stopped playing. I intended to have a living dex but I got bored halfway through that I just played it for the sake of finishing it. I don't know if it was the game itself that I got bored of or something else. When I had X, I played it for months; I even completed the national dex. I think there's nothing major of a difference in ORAS that motivated me to play longer than I should've.

Santalune Forest February 17th, 2015 4:52 PM

I beat the game two days after I got it on christmas.

It's safe to say I enjoyed the game. I don't see why everyone is saying it's worse than X/Y, that it's stale, or how it ruined their childhood. The minute I saw those R/S graphics in the beginning and that pang of nostalgia hit I was hooked. Stepping out of that van, I was prepared for the adventure of a lifetime.
And what an adventure it was.
The first pokemon game I actually played was Emerald, so it was really different for me. I loved it. Seeing some of my favorite Gen 3 pokemon in 3D was amazing. So yeah-- I finished the game. And I enjoyed it every step of the way.

alzam February 17th, 2015 5:37 PM

It took me about a week to beat it. I loved the free roam with latias and latios and the intro to the game was a huge plus, but other than that I think I got way over hyped about it. Would have to say enjoyed playing X and Y a lot more. Its always fun to play remakes and relive the old games tho!!

Aisu February 17th, 2015 7:17 PM

I finished Alpha Sapphire; it was interesting, even if wordy at times, and this "upgraded" third-gen is on par with the Ruby I played as a kid. And, well, I beat the game for the Delta Episode, if nothing else.

Psychic February 17th, 2015 7:41 PM

I bought Alpha Sapphire on release day and haven't progressed past Fortree. For awhile it was because I didn't want to progress any further without finalizing my party, but I've now done so and have even levelled them all appropriately. I've been going back and playing my older Pokemon games a ton, mostly just collecting trade fodder for the GTS. I'm not sure why, but I just don't really feel like playing AS. :x

Nakasu February 18th, 2015 3:41 PM

I beat the game about 2-4 days after I got it, cause I was playing with the DexNav trying to get my competitive team and catch every Pokemon on the route before I move on.

I enjoyed the game, but I kind of expected a little more out of it. It was very well done, I honestly enjoyed this game.

Fun Size February 19th, 2015 12:27 AM

So far in the game I've reached Mauville City, but I just sorta died once I reached there. I've really gotten bored with the game and to be honest it hasn't lived up to the expectations I was expecting. I don't know why I feel the way I feel but it's just not giving me that "WOW" factor that Pokemon games should. Even though I want to keep playing just to finish it, I know that I won't really enjoy the game for what it is, so I'm just taking a month long break. Yeah I know it's a long time, but if you've ever grown unmotivated to do something and you wait a long time and come back to it, the feeling you [might] have is amazing! And that's the feeling I want with ORAS.

Dracowyn February 19th, 2015 11:13 AM

I always loved the RSE games. Hoenn has always been my favorite region after all.

And I felt these remakes made it even better. I tried not to rush through it but I beat it in 3 or 4 days anyways. In my opinion it really lived up to the hype.

Currently I'm taking a break cause I'm mainly busy on smash game-wise. But after that I'll continue hunting for shiny legendaries. Already did Regice and Lugia, now I'm trying for a shiny Kyurem.

blue February 20th, 2015 3:31 AM

I finally completed Alpha Sapphire last night including the Delta Epsiode, and that was probably the best storyline I've ever seen in any Pokemon game. The characters, the cutscenes, the depth, all of it was just spectacular. I'm really looking forward to seeing where they go with the next game or games, the Delta Episode has opened up so many possibilities.

Arylett Charnoa February 21st, 2015 1:11 AM

Eh. I never finished the old games either. But I moreso lost motivation because of the grinding I had to do before the Elite Four and how I utterly couldn't be bothered to. And when I got these games, it was around the time Diamond and Pearl came out, and they were honestly much better to play due to the newer features, better graphics, and more Pokemon. (As well as the Special/Physical split. I don't like playing anything before that.) So I dropped the original Sapphire completely.

As for this one, I didn't play through Omega Ruby too quickly. But not too slowly either. At around the same pace I finished Y, but a bit slower than that.

Just finished Delta Episode a few days ago. It was okay, but it left me feeling empty and with no real sort of emotion or investment. It feels like they were trying to make a good story, but the execution and characters was primitive. It's like these games are taking their baby steps to make a nice narrative and I'm happy about that, but I'm more looking forward to when they refine it into something I can actually be immersed into. (Like Black, Black was pretty good in that regard, although still not the best.) It was... a decent game, but I didn't really have that many expectations for it. I usually don't for a Pokemon game, because I know exactly what I'm going to get due to the fact that they change so little across iterations. And I pretty much got everything I knew I was going to get. Soaring was the only thing that really got me super excited.

Now I'm going to catch all the Legendaries in my Omega Ruby before finally putting it down to go back to my older games and Y so I can get things transferred across generations and organized. I'm more excited to finish White 2 (which I never got around to completing) than I was Omega Ruby, to be honest. Probably not going to be playing much of it once I've completed that task. I just don't like Hoenn that much. Y will go back to being my main game when I restart it and play through it again.

I'm just mostly excited to move away from ORAS and to whatever the inevitable third version will be of Kalos. Already want to get to the next Pokemon games.

Sandslash Fan February 23rd, 2015 2:49 PM

I love it so far. Just beat the 5th gym leader (our dad I guess) and just loaded it up for about an hour before I have to do RP gaming. I loved the original Ruby game as well and I would probably have played it for much longer than I ended up doing.... the battery died :(

I still enjoyed the heck out of X/Y (the only version where I completed the Pokedex), but hopefully I am just as drawn into the endgame of this version too.

Harmonie February 24th, 2015 6:49 AM

I do not recall having any kind of motivation issues with the game, nor the original Ruby. In fact, my first play-through of Ruby was my best friend during a several hour trip. lol.

Regardless, OR/AS did not do much to make me change my opinions of R/S/E being the weakest entries in the series. I prefer almost everything about X/Y over OR/AS.

mac098 February 24th, 2015 8:51 AM

I finished the game roughly 10 days after release main storyline and delta. I went and transferred all my Pokemon over and then caught the legendary pokemon. I haven't really touched it since december because I've lost all motivation to play it anymore. It just stopped being fun for me. I've gotten every Pokemon game to this one and I put it my bottom 3 of the series. I was hoping for a battle frontier but oh well, ill survive. Maybe ill pick up and dust it off and start playing again.

SaniOKh February 24th, 2015 12:37 PM

I put this game down after beating the Fortree Gym...

...wait for it...

... during my sixth playthrough of the game.

No motivation issues for me :) .

Belldandy March 2nd, 2015 10:28 AM

Did anyone find that the double daycare made any sense for ORAS? I might try to finish it and get the PokéDEX done just for that if it's actually any more efficient. It seems more efficient, but flying back and forth and trying to keep track of two things at the same time... It seems overly complicated lol

Nah March 2nd, 2015 10:34 AM

Having the 2nd Daycare right next to the IV Judge was great. Not that flying takes a whole lot of time, but anything to cut down on breeding time is good in my book.

Pendraflare March 2nd, 2015 10:40 AM

I think they might have included that given that the second Daycare is right near one of the most notable places in the game to train your Pokémon and battle strong trainers at (the Battle Resort). That might not be much to warrant such inclusion, but I guess they wanted to include it. Oh, and so they could have a Daycare run by little children.

Eruption March 4th, 2015 8:18 PM

I usually complete pokémon games about two days after the release date after barely putting it down from the moment I buy it, but OR was very different. I always felt like the R/S/E games were very good, but for some reason I just stopped playing for two months after I beat Norman. Eventually I got round to just finishing the story, but then I've struggled to motivate myself to do any post-game compared to X were I played for quite a bit after the E4.

I wouldn't be able to put my finger on what caused the lack of motivation to be honest, it might even have had nothing to do with the game. The main game was very easy, but that's the same as all pokémon games except maybe FR/LG.

PlayRoughh March 4th, 2015 11:46 PM

of course i did, best game.

slim spazzy March 5th, 2015 6:09 AM

Usually it would take me like 4 days of solid playing to get through the storyline of any Pokemon game, However Alpha sapphire took me at least two weeks to get completed. For some reason the game felt quite dry.. true i liked the aesthetic design, I had really high expectations. I was really pumped for a revamped battle frontier.. but alas some dreams and hopes will never come through .

Shak March 5th, 2015 11:55 AM

I think its a mixture of the game being too easy and aging. I beat the elite 4, played a little bit of the whole deoxys quest then just put the game down, but now I dont know what I've got to do so I just gave up on it

Sheep March 6th, 2015 11:32 AM

It was definitely worthy of the hype imo. I played through the entire story within a week or so and loved every moment of it, especially the Delta Episode and Steven's more fleshed-out character. Though I've still yet to break 300 hours in the game which really impresses me since I somehow managed to get 310+ in X and can't even recall what I was doing that took up so much time (which isn't a bad thing, I suppose)?

Hoenn's my favorite region and these remakes were a step up from the originals, which didn't have many notable characters or as many Pokemon to use.. not to mention the DexNav is wonderful. Very satisfied.

pkmin3033 March 7th, 2015 7:31 AM

I finished the story, but not the Delta Episode...I might go back and do it somewhen, but I'm more likely to do it as part of a replay. It might have been due to having to wait the extra week, or the fact that Hoenn was my least favourite region, but Alpha Sapphire didn't really captivate me as much as X did...it didn't feel quite as momentous as HeartGold/SoulSilver did as a remake.

...of course, I might have felt differently if I had played the Delta Episode, but that I wasn't motivated to play it at all doesn't speak well for the game in my opinion. Sure, it was fun as all Pokemon games are, but it wasn't exceptional or memorable. Merely passable.

Dedenne1 March 7th, 2015 8:53 AM

So after the games release i played quite a bit up to victory road but not in 2 days like i usually do. It took me 2 weeks to do that i lost drive to play as often and idk why finally i got to beating the entire game and delta episode but i wasnt giddy or happy the game was just missing something and it was incredibly easy like doing something u have to do with no challenge. I was kinda disappointed with Oras and i hope they begin to add difficulty in the future gens.

Meganium March 7th, 2015 9:24 AM

I need to get to the Delta episode, which is where I stopped at in OR. It's not because I no longer had the interest, it's because I had other games to play and those got in the way. xD I hope to finish it asap since I heard the episode was really good.

JJ Styles March 9th, 2015 1:49 PM

In my opinion, ORAS definitely lived up to most of its expectations though of course like any pokemon game nowadays, i can't say that its the perfect game of this generation. It still definitely has some of the flaws it left over from its contemporary such as the really broken EXP share, and the fact that the gym leaders were basically copy-pasted from classic R/S, because honestly, I thought that the Emerald versions of the Hoenn gym leaders were a huge improvement to their lineups (especially Tate and Liza, whose Emerald version is the most fun gym battle in any pokemon game i know of, but sadly, its a missed opportunity in ORAS. Seriously 6th gen version of Emerald Tate and Liza would probably be incredible). Also, it seems that this generation of pokemon games will now be defined to cater more for those who want to play competitive with the super training and all (much more efficient methods of EV Training) and a bigger focus on competitive interest, which sadly leaves a little less content for the CASSSUAAALZZZZ (or the players who enjoy the game more for the adventure and not for the player vs player interest) (may include myself but I live well enough for Battle Frontier and a bit of RU, UU, OU, and UBER battles with my friends and acquaintances)

Super training is great and all, but i find it hilarious to go super train on an E4 member's room to toughen up some stats on the go. (and yeah Super Training kinda makes playing through the game easier than it sounds. Optimizing and maxing out stats if pokemon as early as before Winona is kinda broken in a sense, especially if one is lucky enough to get dem SMOGON natures on their in-game team (Modest, Adamant, Jolly, Impish)

Now to be really on topic, as the thread title states, I definitely went on to finish the initial part of the game (8 Badges, Primal Mascot, 1st run vs the Elite Four and Steven), but i spent more hours exploring and catching more pokemon with the expanded DexNav after the Primal Mascot event. With an overall play time of 100:00 hours before tackling the E4 and Champion pre-Delta episode, I could say that I really did my best to make my money's worth.

So yeah, the money i spent to get a 2nd hand 3ds from a friend and the extra money to get the game (Alpha Sapphire here) was worth the pennies (and currency) spent.

FirestormProdigy March 10th, 2015 2:08 AM

I totally finished the game! It was even better then the original. But Im still a fan of vintage games so no matter what ill always side with R/S/E

DrumminBeatz March 10th, 2015 6:15 AM

I have not beat it yet no, it has taken a small backseat as I try to go for the nationaldex in X so I can has all dem Legendary Pokemon in ORAS shiny! Or at least easier to get them shiny. That and I like collecting soooooo XD But I do plan to beat the game someday :)

Frotton March 10th, 2015 10:41 AM

Well, I was expecting something else from this, but I have finished the game. I just prefer Pokémon X/Y.

Bay March 10th, 2015 11:30 AM

I was able to finish Alpha Sapphire's main story and Delta Episode within a couple weeks. After that went to catch some legendaries and visited the Battle Resort a bit, though I skipped the Battle Maison for now. I haven't done contests yet, but I might try that next when I get back playing AS (distracted with other games and real life stuff at the moment haha).

There are some parts that I wished were added like gym rematches, better opportunities for certain characters, and better post-game material that isn't a copy/paste Battle Maison. Overall though I love it and I thought there were some areas the remakes did much better than the original ones like Steven and the Team Aqua/Team Magma characters fleshed out more. Your rival is still their very nice self but more tolerable than in the originals. I have the same feelings with Wally in that while I would like more appearances for him, I think he's better this time around. A few people mentioned Sea Mauville's backstory and I really liked that too. The Delta Episode has some very interesting concepts and I thought it's a good follow up to the main story.

stp March 10th, 2015 12:29 PM

I've been pretty lazy. I haven't even gotten the 4th gym badge yet. I was really looking forward to these remakes, but I'm super burnt out on Hoenn. I've played through Emerald too many times. It'll probably be awhile before I beat the game.

DarkWitch March 13th, 2015 1:02 AM

I've beaten the entire game including the Delta Episode, caught all legendaries and I also beat the Pokemon Contests as well. For me I really loved ORAS.

cream March 15th, 2015 11:17 AM

as a fan of rse, i can say that the hype was strong for oras. however, i still haven't finished the game. i played for about a week, then stopped right after beating flannery. i don't think it's because it didn't live up to my expectations, but more a question of lack of time and not being able to stay as focused on video games as i used to when i was a kid. :pink_confused:

i do plan on getting back into the game at some point, though.

MarcEddy March 16th, 2015 8:21 AM

I had it since november and it didn't beat it

nimbo March 21st, 2015 4:57 PM

I wasn't too excited for the game to come out and I haven't beaten it since I got it (which was when it first came out). I actually haven't touched it in months.

grassbladed March 23rd, 2015 5:13 AM

I haven't finished it yet, mostly because I'm not in love with the team I was using to defeat the gyms. So I'm trying to work out a better combination for the E4, but I got distracted flying around on Mega Latias and catching the legendaries. And then by Assassin's Creed and breeding in Pokémon X...

Frozocrone April 3rd, 2015 4:22 AM

I didn't play RSE (started with Pearl) so it was awesome to finally play Hoenn after my DS wouldn't accept the Game Boy cartridge.

That said, I'm quite a competitive battler and soft resetting for Latios (and soon to be Latias) for good IV's became so tedious that I contemplated filling up all my boxes. That is no small task lemme tell you that.

Now that I've got a good one (it's missing 1-3 iv's in HP and Def so nothing major) I've been able to continue with the story :) I do understand where people come from though...the water routes are a bit...long. I genuinely have more fun when I play X/Y.

Kenchiin April 3rd, 2015 6:07 AM

I must confess I haven't played the Delta Episode yet. It's like I'm not really in the mood for that...

Pendraflare April 4th, 2015 1:36 PM

Does anyone else feel like this is sort of like what happened with XY? Because the hype for that was massive, and then in mid-2014 its fandom started to die out. And i'm feeling like the same thing is happening here - we have the people who still think it's awesome, while we're also met with those who didn't even finish it.

Dedenne1 April 6th, 2015 3:52 PM

Ok I finally finished the Delta Episode and i think it was pretty worth it i really liked Zinnia haha but the story was so easy and fast i would have liked a better challenge haha but im just glad i finally finished the game!

Go Lane April 10th, 2015 5:11 PM

Personally I got hooked towards the end of the game. There I believe the plot really starts to flare and I found myself unable to put the game down from the 7th gym onward. Also, the Delta Episode is easily my favorite part of the game, really hope they (Game Freak) will continue on and incorporate some of the characters from ORAS into a future game.

Kitrigar April 17th, 2015 1:04 PM

I got AS on release day and it took until Feb 2015 for me to beat the game.
In Dec 2014, I got OR.. which I haven't beaten yet because it's not very fun :\

Don't get me wrong, I love RSE, but I think it's because I've played it so much in the past, it's just not fun anymore.
I love the new features and all, but the storyline is such a chore.

Charlie Brown April 25th, 2015 9:16 PM

I haven't finished yet but that's mainly because I've been really busy! I got it on the morning of release day (...partially so I could say I got it before most of the forum I was on at the time haha) but didn't play it much at the end of last year due to exams/travelling errywhere. Last month I played it pretty often and I've now got 6 badges, but then work and uni got hectic again. Things have quietened down a bit now so I should be able to finish the game soon :D

Golurks Were Meant to Fly April 25th, 2015 10:17 PM

If you don't count the delta episode then yes! But if you do then no, I haven't gotten around to it. Not gonna lie I find legendaries boring in general, so I'm not super inclined to go and do that portion of the game.

AquaMarine8 April 26th, 2015 4:47 PM

You bet!

Actually...this is my third time playing through my Omega Ruby, in addition to Alpha Sapphire. xD
