I still think Trainer Customization is the most important feature that needs to be brought back. It gives so much uniqueness to the playerbase, and considering how the newer games tend to focus more on global interactions, it makes more sense to see everyone's unique avatar rather than the same two faces over and over again. |
15
Just the fact that's it 50/50 your opponent looks exactly like you... Creepy when you think of it, right? Like you've been cloned, imitated or it's actually a Ditto. |
16.
If I recall correctly, Game Freak claimed that trainer customization made Kalos so special. -_- |
17.
Hopefully it will stay, seeing as they've already given the fans a taste of it. Now what Pokemon are we on? Guess I'll have to check lol. |
18
I'm pretty sure trainer customization will be back in the next game(s), especially if they're set back in Kalos. The only reason they weren't in ORAS I believe is because it wasn't in the original Ruby & Sapphire. |
19.
I personally hope that trainer customization will carry on for generations to come. |

Sounds like a very lame excuse. That'd be like saying that only Italy has good ice cream. |
So, we're on to Growlithe, right?
11 Another question regarding the player character (hope we haven't had it already): Do you always play as your own gender? |
12.
I play as my own gender in Fire Red/Leaf Green, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Black 2, White 2, Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, and Y. But in other games, I'd rather pick the female character. |
13
No. I play as the better-looking character. Like the girl in B2W2. |
14
I just play as whichever I prefer, if I get the second game then I'll just play as the opposite gender. |
15
I don't know what Pokemon we're on so I'll just upvote yay! I always tend to play as the male character. They just have a better design. Or, if there's no preference, I just pick the male character because that's the first choice and I just want to get started playing. |
15
I play as a girl when I played FR and EM. But when I play hacks and some games like Harvest Moon, I go with my gender. |
17.
I usually play as a guy so I can name my character either "Shark" or "Nasch," but I do recall playing as a girl in B2/W2, because her design was sooo much better. And HAN, don't worry about repeating super-old topics. I doubt the things we talked about on page 5 are even relevant anymore (lol), so I'm sure they could re-open some fresh discussions. |
18.
If DCCs/chatting threads couldn't have the same topic again after they had it the first time they would all die. They strive on topics repeating over and over again. :B I bounce between choosing the male character and the female character depending on what I want to name my character. Though in XYs case because the female's customization is just so much better I think I've only picked the male once and honestly the next time I do it will probably when I'm doing a character run or something. vOv |
19
I personally chose male characters a lot to represent my own gender, even though at times I want to choose another one if I got Y someday, because I heard that the female gets the customization the most. |
20.
It really is. I've played through my Y plenty of times and I still can pick a different outfit each time I play the game. I doubt I would be able to do that as well with the male though I am considering being the male in my next runthrough. Haven't decided if its going to be a challenge or a character one yet though. I still have to wait until XY finishes until I can do my XY!Ash Run. |
11.
Now it's Arcanine's turn! Arcanine is one of my favourite Fire types from Gen 1. |
12
I'm quite sure they removed trainer customization in ORAS due to the player character having an already established design. |
13.
Guess we'll find out next generation whether that's the case or not. |
14.
I dislike May's new design. If you ask me, it makes her look more like a whore than an actual Pokemon trainer. If we still had trainer customization, it would've been less of an issue for me. |
15
I actually thought she looked kinda cute redesigned, but I get why people would think otherwise. |
16
I think the artwork for the protagonists in ORAS looked great, not much different to the originals. On another note, I came across this article on Twitter about a Yellow Remake. At first I thought it was legit and everything, but then I realized it was posted a day before april fools. D: |
17.
what kind of whore wears a headband like that???????? I was really a fan of their ORAS designs as well! I mean, the official art made them kinda skinny and such but that was just the style's fault, really. man I would really love a Yellow remake. Pika Pikachu~ |
18.
I always thought Brendan had white hair back in Generation III, haha. |
19.
I always thought of it as a hat but I did like the fanart with it interpreting it as hair! |
20
Thought it was hair at first too! But it didn't bother me much because he's still cute. xD |
11 - Poliwag!
Yeah I could never really tell, but it was confirmed 11 years later in the remakes I suppose. ;] |
10
Nah it's totally his hair. No question about it. |
11.
Like Poliwag |
12.
Poliwag is adorable I love it and it was Red's "starter" Pokemon in PokeSpe and it can evolve into Politoed who I also adore. The sentence above totally makes sense. |
13
I feel like I'm liking all these mons... |
14
That's what an ideal Pokémon fan would do: gotta upvote 'em all! except the cocons |
15.
And Clefairy and Jigglypuff for some reason |
16
Never forget that Clefairy almost became the mascot of Pokemon as a whole. But they had to choose something that was gender-neutral in terms of appeal, and that's how Pikachu surfaced. |
17
I've never liked Clefairy, so I'm glad they never went through with that. Pikachu is a great mascot. 8) |
18
Aw, Poliwag. The cute water type! |
19
Poliwag is really cute. I remember liking it a lot after I read through Special and was obsessed with Red for a few months. |
20.
clefairy i thought it was jigglypuff?? or maybe i'm just getting them confused because jigglypuff is still really popular in japan. if anyone knew me a few years back (like... 2009-2010 back) i was obsessed with Red and my first two or so years on this forum I had nothing but Red themes. it's why my ego emblem is red though i'm considering changing it to the character more people associate with me now (guess whoooo). |
11.
Hmm, well Kirby is a pretty successful pink mascot, but to be fair, I think Kirby is cuter than Clefairy by a noticeable degree. |
12.
Wigglytuff is pretty cute though..... But ya kirby beats Clefairy i dint find clefairy that cute. Haha |
13.
I personally love Clefairy but yeah totally agree that Kirby is cuter. And I mean all of its abilities are pretty cute too. ♥ |
14
We're talking about the pink Normal-types? I don't think i've used Clefairy seriously, but I would like to, what with it being Fairy-type now and all. |

Poliwhirl and Poliwrath are so much alike. I think some more effort could have been put in making some difference between the two |
15
Perhaps thats why they introduced Politoed in Gen II. |
16.
I love Politoed I think it's adorable and I totally want a shiny one someday. |
17
oh my gosh Politoed is a cutie guys. I normally don't care for frog Pokemon but he is totally a favorite. http://pldh.net/media/pokexycons/186.png |
18.
Since we happen to be talking about a split-evolution line, I think this topic should be relevant: What's your favorite method of evolution other than leveling up, and why? |
19
Politoed's adorable for a frog pokemon but I have to hand it to Red for his Poliwrath in the manga. Both of them are pretty cool but at the end of the day, I think I like Politoed better simply for being cuter. :D @ Revise: Honestly anything other than trading! It's much more of a chore than other methods due to needing another person or console. As for my favourite one, uh... stones I guess? They're not too hard to find throughout the story, depending on which one you need. |
20
Agreed with Aslan. Trading is such a pain because I'm an antisocial gamer xD I thought that Leafeon's and Glaceon's evolutionary conditions were quite cool. They should bring that back for future pokemon evolutions :3 |
9
That's one advantage of playing on emulators, I can trade with myself. #foreveralone But my favorite other evolution method would be stones too, as long as they're obtainable infinitely by any means. |
Primeape, right?
10 It drives me crazy when I want to evolve my Pokemon only to find out it needs to be traded. D: |
Poliwrath: 9
Nope, it was Poliwrath already. Maybe it should be mentioned in front of the number to make it less confusing. |
Oh. Yeah, that would help!
Poliwrath: 8 Hmm, Poliwrath... not my favourite Poke. |
Poliwrath: 7
Poliwrath is well usable in-game as a mixed sweeper, but to me it just feels like a second Poliwhirl, which for some reason doesn't have the same typing. |
8
I like Poliwrath, one of the better Fighting-types IMO. |
Poliwrath: 7
Poliwhirl is a cuter Poliwrath without the same typing, which is a shame. I never really got their swirly stomach/mouth things, though. xD; |
8.
Poliwhirl is such a cute Pokemon. I like it way more than Poliwrath. |
9.
Voting up for Poliwrath because of Red's Poli. That's pretty much the only reason lmao I love Politoed so much more. |
8
SCREW POLIWRATH. Chuck's can go die in hell. |
9.
I actually don't remember having much trouble with his Poliwrath. My sister actually beat it with a Poliwag (with some help I think though??) on her HGSS it was hilarious. |
10.
I'm assuming items were used in that scenario? Because dang that does sound hilarious. xD |
9
Meh pokemon. Awful name and a very awkward to look at design. |
8
I never had trouble with Chuck. His tactic relies completely on Double Team and Focus Punch, but with a simple Aerial Ace, there's not much he can do. |
9
Poliwrath wasn't a bad evolution for Poliwhirl! I actually liked it though I'm probably not going to use one anytime soon. Chuck's pretty hardcore if we consider that he trains underneath a waterfall all day and looks like a professional wrestler. Still, I think a lot of gym leaders are pushovers though that might have something to do with wanting to overlevel my pokemon before every fight. :( He's actually not too bad though! His fighting types had some insane damage provided they could land Focus Punches and he had some really cool pokemon on his team. hypnosis is pain though aaa |
10.
I never said Poliwrath was bad. I just like Poliwhirl more. |
11
I like Poliwrath! I used to use him back when I first played FireRed. |
Poliwrath: 10.
He never proved helpful to me in battle. :c Maybe I just can't use him. |
Quote:
I don't remember it completely but I do remember it consisting of hypnosis and then double-slapping it silly. :') |
10.
^ lol poor Poliwrath, I feel for him. |
11.
The Poliwag's name was Red which made it even better. :') |
Poliwrath: 10.
Aha. xD |
9
So... What Pokémon are you currently training (in any game)? |
10.
Bug Mono: Volbeat, Dustox, Masquerain, and Shedinja (though my Shedinja has the worst nature for it oops..... I really don't want to retrain a Nincada though 8|;;; ). Definitely gonna get Anorith as my last member when I get the chance. Random Pkmn Challenge: Fletchinder, Bulbasaur, Umbreon, Gallade, and Lapras! My last member when I get to it will be Dragonite. c: |
Poliwrath: 9.
Well I'm not currently playing a Pokemon game except Explorers of Sky, so I'll just say Shinx and Vulpix. c: I need a Grass- or Water-type for coverage, though. I was thinking maaaaybe Breloom. <3 |
10.
Breloom would be a really good addition to the team, but I believe it's pretty difficult to recruit in Mystery Dungeon (if I recall correctly). And yeaaah, I'm haven't been playing any video games in the longest time, let alone Pokémon, so I can't say I'm currently training anything haha. |
11
I'm currently training a Breloom on my OmegaRuby game! Along with a Swampert, Swellow, and a Vigoroth. Vigoroth is one of my favorite Pokemon. |
12
Still Poliwrath, eh? |
11
Apparently so. |
10
Yup, still Poliwrath, an back on 10. But the first post even thinks were still on Mankey. (hint Sora hint) I'm currently not actively training any Pokémon, but I'm preparing for the Summer Challenge and raise some of the team members. |
11
Hmm, I stopped training my Pokémon at the moment because I need to rest my hands atm. However, I wish you good luck at the Summer Challenge! |
12
Daaang I've missed a lot over these exam weeks, and not a single thing has been discarded since Jigglypuff? XD Sounds like we're on Poliwrath now so I'll vote him up! |
11
Welcome back, Squirrel. Wouldn't now be a great moment to update the first post? :P It appears we don't discard much here, actually. We're boring, aren't we? |
12.
I keep telling myself to update the first post but then I'm like 'nah I'll do it later.' And then I don't get to it. ok time to go shiny hunting for a munna. or vanillite. |
13
Shiny hunting? Wow I have two shiny Swablu that I got in Omega Ruby, one in a Luxury Ball and one in a Dive Ball. |
14.
I'm pretty sure the only shiny I've ever encountered in the wild was a Sunkern, while the rest of my shinies came from trades. =D |
13
I met a shiny Cubone using the PokéRadar, at the time I didn't even know that improved the chances of finding one. But as I saw the sparkling grass patch, I knew it would be something special. |
14.
Hey, it's almost the same case when I found my shiny Plusle, except that I didn't scan for the shaking grass via DexNav when I met it. I just got alerted for shaking grass when in middle of training Kyogre and then the fateful encounter happened. |
15
I found loads of shinies over different games. My current file of X holds the record for the most shinies I've found in one game, with 7. Latest shiny find was a Zigzagoon in Alpha Sapphire found via random encounter. Also, there has been two games where I managed to catch a shiny Graveler - Diamond and Soul Silver. Of the shinies I have my faves are my Duskull from Ruby, because she was the first shiny I ever found so that's why she's special. Then there's the Miltank I found in X, because I love blue shinies although I wasn't a fan of how the shade its blue color looked in 6th Gen (reminds me of how shiny Espeon's green got a bit darker) but still, it's one of my fave 2nd Gen Pokemon and I'm happy I have a shiny one of my own. And my third pick is another of my shinies from X, a Quagsire which I caught on a day that I was suffering a terrible breakdown caused by stress so finding it helped make me feel better. |
16
Seven shinies in one game?! I think the only shiny I've encountered other than Gyarados is probably Graveler! At the time, I was really happy only to see this come up on my screen: 'Graveler used Explosion!' :((( |
17
We're still in Poliwrath?! |
18.
Oh wow, I completely forgot about that shiny Gyarados, haha! In that case, I encountered two shinies in the wild! =D (So proud of myself. x3) |
17
Never had any luck in shiny hunting... |
18.
I actually caught my shiny Munna the night I made that post and the Vanillite the day after haha. Yay for Friend Safaris and Hordes! Also chain fishing which I've gotten at least seven shinies from (in fact I made a mono-type team with six of my shinies and conquered the elite four with them. ♥) After I'm done with the first Summer Challenge I might actually see about finding a shiny in OR since I have no shinies in that game yet (not including the shiny Pidgeot which I technically caught in X and transfered over to see its shininess as a mega) |
19
If we're not including the Red Gyarados, then the only shiny I've ever encountered (and caught) is Shinx. |
20.
I don't really care about shiny Pokemon myself. Diggersby is an exception, because I like shiny Diggersby more than the regular one. |
21. 10. I KEEP DOING THAT BUT YES TIME FOR ABRA.
There are some that I love as equally as it's normal coloring. And then there are some that I love more than their normal coloring. And then there are the pink shinies Like legit I want all of them. Gimme gimme. |
11.
I think Garchomp has the best shiny palette out of any Pokémon. |
