Okay I don't know what to think of that. But I assure you that I am really the gender I have listed. As far as you know. |
On that note...
130 ...How would you denote one's sex? Because female and male are both gender names, yeah? Doesn't really make sense when you think about it, considering most other animals don't have genders and yet we call them "male" or "female". It's an inherently sex-related term that in no way ties in with gender. And in terms of medical documents, one's sex is "male" or "female" (because that's what they denote), but it seems like simply through decades upon decades of sex and gender being used interchangeably it just kind of stuck. |
...
Okay then. 131 |

I was kinda confused by your post tbh. |
134
The sky is not blue The grass is not green Those are merely the labels we attach to that particular hue of the visible color spectrum we perceive It's just a label to help us understand it better Another reason why people fight over sexuality and gender that confuses me It's also part of the reason I don't call myself human, since I have nothing in common with such narrow-minded creatures |
135
Sex is biological, Gender is sociological. |
136
Well that's my point, so do they use different terminology? Because "male" and "female" are (or should be, at least) sex-related, but in that case what would refer to one's gender? |
137
Yeah, there hasn't really been a new term for what Gender you perceive yourself as in terms of the old dichotomy. |
138
"I am me." |

Stayed up all night over at a friend's place watching a bunch of films and discussing Chinese cartoons. Nyoro~n. |
140
I was just watching Babylon 5 and finishing the first season of Dan Machi. |
141
People were discussing Danmachi. I suppose I ought to give it a shot. |
142
You're not really missing anything |
143
Danmachi's a charming little show. Been a while since I watched it but the first 4 or 5 episodes that I did watch were pretty fun. I mentioned before...I think...how I shouldn't like some of the characters, such as Bell, but I do because damn if they aren't charming. |
144
I should look into older chinese cartoons someday ...someday |
145
Older ones are great- I'm a big fan of ones from the 90s and 80s. That was the age of super catchy theme songs and just plain different, more angular designs. I've never really understood how people said they can't do the older stuff; it's not like it doesn't hold up. It's only really difficult to get to when you go back to stuff from the 70s and prior. 80s going forward's still pretty modern, or at least easy to get into. |
146
The sub-par voice acting and animation limitations are a big factor too |
147
Yeah, but a lot of anime fans are set in their ways about dubs anyway, so it won't really matter. And animation limitations are still a thing. I mean, they're older but it's not uncommon to see stuff that surpasses what we have today ("Itano Circus" is a renowned example of stuff that just stands the test of time). It's really just a matter of budget and direction. Though, going with voice acting, despite it being a bigger field today, I feel as if back in the day we got a much larger variety of voices. Nowadays, regardless of language, voices fall into tropes, just as characters do. It's a shame, really. |
148
Some dubs get it right, but it's rare |
149
Yeah... I've seen some shitty dubs. |
150
Dubs in mid-2000s to 2015 are rarely bad. Early 2000s were basically the 90s in that they could be really good or really mediocre (or hilariously fun and unfaithful like Those Who Hunt Elves- the definitive version of the show). In the case of the former, Cowboy Bebop's a popular example. The latter...Project A-ko? I dunno. Maybe Ranma 1/2 is a better example. I love 90s/80s dubs for so many reasons, largely because back then writers actually had some liberty to have fun with the scripts or, the other way, they'd be so faithful that it's just the greatest, most robotic performance. This was bigger in the 80s than it was in the 90s, though. Ah, good memories. Pokemon's another notable 90s dub. Say what you will about 4Kids, but they went absolutely all out on the Pokemon dub, largely so in its first three seasons. They really wanted it to do well and resonate with a relatively large age group. |
151
I dunno, they did botch up a few lines *coughMewtwoStrikesBackcough* |
152
I didn't say it was faithful, just that they put a lot of work into it. We definitely got a much better experience than Japan did, overall. |

Spoiler:
I really like two-tone wings for some reason |
