Those trailers look amazing. I just wish I knew japanese.
|
Okay, I have new topic for you guys.
If you have cleared PMD's storyline, your character and your partner are given a chance to be able to evolve. Did you manage to evolve your character and your partner, or not? And why? |
I never actually evolve them. It doesn't feel right somehow to, I don't know. I may plan in evolving my EoD team into Quilava and Raichu, but I dunno....
|
I'm wondering if I'm making an odd choice, but I might not give my character and partner in Gates To Infinity evolve, because I think it would be a bit out of place, so I'm glad that Everlasting Team Skill that I just got recently may come in handy. Besides, I wanted to keep my partner as Oshawott as always. :)
|
I've never actually reached the point where I have the opportunity but I don't think I'd like myself or my partner to evolve. Like DyingWillFlareon said it somehow doesn't feel right and I think you go through so much with these characters and bond with them that even though evolving them can make them stronger and is part of a Pokemon journey I'm not keen on it for myself or partner in PMD.
|
Yes, I evolved them. I didn't see much reason not to. Besides, my partner, Charmander, could learn Heat Wave once evolved into Charizard, which is one of those awesome moves that hit an entire room. I wasn't attached enough to the basic Pokémon and extra powers are always nice. Still, I have enough to think back of the later part of the game and PMD is the only reason why I like Swampert.

Okay, I think I should go with a new topic.
Starting in Gates To Infinity, moves are having ranks which means when you use the same move over and over, your move will become stronger, more accurate and have more PPs. Plus, the move growth is shared among your team! If you have played GTI, what's your opinion on this feature? And if you haven't played GTI yet and planned to get Super Mystery Dungeon, are you looking forward to use it? |
Ooh maaan I love that feature, but it makes it worse on me having to choose a moveset. XD
"Tepig would like to learn Flamethrower" Me: Hmm but Ember has more attack than it so I'll keep my current moves thanks though Flamethrower would have had more attack eventually. Yeah. |
I've been enjoying move growth mechanic of PMD: Gates To Infinity because it makes moves stronger when I use it a lot, which is almost like leveling up each of Pokémon themselves, and I like it when my comrades who happens to use the same move will use it in its upgraded form straight away.
Btw, there has been a batch of PMD anime specials in English Pokémon YouTube channel lately (even though Japanese YouTube channel has released them months earlier), so I think I'd share these for all of you to watch. Please note that the latter 2 videos (of Gates to Infinity's) are taken from Nintendo channel instead, for reasons. Team Go-Getters Out Of The Gate! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAOmQ-foqeg Explorers of Time and Darkness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0PlwsTLoM0 Explorers of Sky - Beyond Time and Darkness https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5wGtHkCY0Y Gates to Infinity Animation Specials https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEjujJDAhRE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMY8rFreuqI So, I'll give one question or two: Do you have seen all of the PMD anime specials before? Which one of them is your favorite, and why? |
It sure has been a while since I was last here!

I've never actually seen the PMD anime specials so I'm definitely going to check those out!
So I have a question which given the place I'm posting this in probably know the answer but truthfully, if I have Explorers of Time, is it worth getting Explorers of Sky and/or Explorers of Darkness? |
Why have I not seen this before? Mystery Dungeon's my favorite spin-off series in Pokemon.

Man, can't believe I never saw this club. Best spinoff, better stories than the main series.
Username: Thief Pokémon Species: Shiny Poochyena (Mightyena is my favourite Mon, and Poochy - now a Mighty - was my first shiny 9 years ago in Emerald). Team Name: Team Lunaralos Answer the current topic! Looking forward to that thing Starry posted a little way up the page, about the moves and their power/PP. I never experienced that since I couldn't stomach playing through more than the GTI demo. It never felt like a PMD game to me, but this upcoming one looks far more promising. Just a shame my country (UK) doesn't even have a release date yet. :\ Nothing annoys me more than non-simultaneous release dates (or at least have them within a week or two of each other). |
Heyyy Thief, welcome aboard! ^^

Quote:
You're not alone on waiting, though! Despite the fact that I live in the U.S, I highly doubt that I'll be able to get the game on its release date. In fact, I have no clue when I'll be able to get it at all, ahaha. |
The only reason I can get it is because my grandmother sent FORTY DOLLARS in the in bday cards earlier this month. That with the 5 bucks I had already I can afford another game on release(the other one having been ORAS) and I'm so excited. ;w;
Serperate release dates are too annoying.... They shouldnt even be allowed..... *sob* I tried to watch them, but I haven't gotten through them all yet.... |
Quote:
This goes for everyone, too! In Super Mystery Dungeon, you can choose to either handpick your starter or take the personality quiz. Which method will you use, and which Pokémon do you hope to play as? |
Well, at first I WANTED to do the personality quiz, but then I saw my Snivy figure and Fenniken pin and.... Yeah I want to play as Snivy with partner Fenniken. XD I really shouldn't have picked them already, I watched the 3ds store treehouse video playthroughs of the beginning and now know a little of the canon personalities, I've already got flipping backgrounds and character development for them this is not ok. -w-U
|
Quote:
The personality test is indeed very fun, but considering there's only one save slot, I'd rather set my priorities on beating the story with characters I can relate to... which happen to be Bulbasaur and Charmander! Those two have been my team in both the Rescue games and the Explorers games, so I want to run through another incarnation of that team just to continue their legacy. ^.^ (Now if Sewaddle was playable, I would probably reconsider... XD) |
I'm going to do the test, but reset the game and play as Snivy anyways. XD How can I pass up the test??
|

Quote:
And I love the personality tests so I'll definitely be going with that just to see who I get, but I'll probably go with Osha for me, with Riolu (maybe Bulby) as my partner. I always loved the Vulpix/Riolu combo in T/D/S but it looks like they're going with almost all starters this time around (although the choice variety is nowhere near as horrendous as the GTI ones, jeez). Does anyone know if certain 'Mons are gender-locked still? One of my friends said something about us being able to choose the gender of your partner, so if that's true, I'd guess male players aren't locked out of playing as Chikorita now etc. Also, I wish there was some way of transferring the PMD 'Mons to our main series games. I know it'd be a bit weird since they talk in PMD and our own character is human, but I still think it'd be nice if we could see them in Amie and whatnot. xD |

One day, I wish we could have multiple save slots, as I don't really have the heart to delete a precious adventure log. ;_; Of course, buying another copy is always an option, but my wallet would scream at me haha. :p Quote:
Spoiler: Maybe this video will help!
While it's technically not confirmed, I think it's safe to assume that you can pick their genders. In the video above (at around 3:02) when the person is picking their partner, the game asks "If you were to give them a compliment, what would it be?" The only options are "Cool" and "Cute," so let's hope that's actually referring to the Pokémon's gender, which it's almost implying. :D Quote:

But yeah, multiple saves would be perfect. I never had that problem with T/D/S since I have all three versions, so 3 save files. But I only had 1 save for Blue Rescue Team, never had Red Rescue Team, and didn't bother with GTI past the demo. ... Man, I'm really in the mood to restart all of my PMDs now. Shame there aren't really enough people active around here for us to do a mass restart or something. xD Quote:

Since we're on a new page now, I'm just gonna post this topic again if anyone has missed it on the last page:

& Yeah it's frustrating, they decided to region-lock their most expensive console/games yet (well, aside from the U) whereas Sony and Microsoft haven't region-locked this gen at all. I've never bothered with Xbox but I do love Sony. Not as much of a Nintendo fan these days, but I still love 'em for their handhelds and Pokémon/AC/LoZ. Quote:

Btw (casually stalked your profile for all of 30 seconds), is your birthday really on 06/06/1996? xD Mine's 02/02/1996, so I've always loved having mine on the same number for both day and month haha. |
Quote:
And yep, it's pretty ironic how we get region-locked now when it finally feels like the Pokémon Company (and even Nintendo as a whole) is starting to become more globally united than they were before. Let's just hope that all of this region-locking was a bad experiment and will be done away with for the next handheld. :p Quote:
But omg yeah... I've never cried at a video game before either, yet Explorers of Time/Sky managed to have me crying more than once for Arceus' sake! (To make things worse, the soundtrack hit me right in the feels...) Aside from the main story, the most unexpected tears came from "Igglybuff the Prodigy," one of those special episodes. If anyone hasn't tried it yet, I really recommend doing so! ^.^ Regarding GTI's plot, I have no clue how it turns out either, considering I haven't played it yet. I understand that it would be incredibly difficult to top the Explorers games' story, but I definitely hope that it's at least at Rescue Team's level (which is pretty simplistic itself). Upon replaying the Rescue Team games a while back, I admit the story wasn't "the greatest," but it was still nice, likable, and most importantly, consistent. Quote:
As for other main series features that could be incorporated, I think it would be amazingly awesome if Mystery Dungeon had more global interaction (like the Player Search System in X/Y). This is only a rough idea, so I'm not yet sure how it would be executed, but imagine if you had the ability join other players' guilds around the world (after beating the main story of course), and once you reach a certain rank, you would be able to make a guild of your own. One can dream, right? :D (And yep, that's my real birthday! I know how that feels, hehe.) |
Do you have seen all of the PMD anime specials before? Which one of them is your favorite, and why?
I've only seen the first. I like the Pokémon as characters a lot more than the human characters from the regular anime. It's a shame they haven't made a full series, because those one-off episodes don't have enough plot as I'd like to see. Comparing the PMD games with the main series raises your expectations regarding the plot and story. Quote:
In Super Mystery Dungeon, you can choose to either handpick your starter or take the personality quiz. Which method will you use, and which Pokémon do you hope to play as? If I would have the game at this very moment, I would probably just pick Fennekin, because it's an adorable Pokémon and I really want to play with it sometime. But personality tests are a fun thing too, it made me play with Mudkip which I hadn't used before and possibly wouldn't for some time otherwise. Quote:

The only problem is that Ranger was developed by "Creatures, Inc." and HAL Laboratory, which are both affiliated with Nintendo, while Spike Chunsoft (the developer of Mystery Dungeon) is independent from Nintendo. Ah, well. Maybe they might work something out in the future! Quote:

Did you ever see that site (a Dutch-owned site, I think) that let you register your Rescue Team and accept/request rescue missions from other players via passcodes? It was one of my favourite things for a while but like all good things, it ended. :c |

But yeah, I wouldn't go through the hassle of importing without having a reliable method to actually play it. Waiting sucks but eh, at least the rest of Europe and Australia will suffer along with me. xD I'm gonna grab my game in a sec~ And wondermaiiiiiiiiiiil. Love those generators. I'll be surprised to find anyone who didn't use them tbh (unless they didn't know they existed). They were so helpful. |

(I personally love getting the Goggle Specs through Wondermail, since it can be aggravating to wait for it to randomly appear. xD) Quote:
Of course, it shouldn't interrupt the flow of discussion. Just discuss things with other members normally, and whenever you have a log that you wanna post, add something like this to the end of your post: [SPOILERtitle=Journey Log #X] Spoiler: Journey Log #X
No one has to do this if they don't want to, but I was thinking that it could possibly make things a bit more unique! c: |
Quote:
And that's perfect. :D I used to do that kind of thing with a group of my online friends a few years ago, but most of them have drifted away from Pokémon now (at least the spinoffs). Even if other people aren't up for it, I'll do it anyway. xD Currently taking the quiz to get the right starter, will update properly when missions begin. EDIT: Oh and I just double checked, but apparently SOS passcodes still work even though the DS wifi servers were shut down, so with any luck we can just post a code here for help if we need to. :p |
Quote:
And yep, I like those types of missions too, along with outlaw missions (which I find pretty awesome). However, I'm not a big fan of missions where you need to bring your client with you, because I get really scared that they're gonna die on me or something, haha. :P Quote:

And yeah, the higher-ranked Outlaw missions can be pretty difficult if they summon Monster Houses, but I always make sure to have at least one Foe-Hold Orb or Petrify Orb on hand no matter what, since those are indispensable for dealing with Monster Houses. :P (Though the most annoying outlaws are the ones who try to escape, especially if they're Ghost-types. <_<) Quote:
I noticed that you level-grinded quite a lot, hehe. That's not a bad thing, as it will certainly give you the upper hand later on, but I think I'm usually slower than that with my team's levels, aha. Jeez, now I can't wait to start myself... If I can't hold my temptation, then at the very least I'll probably take the personality test to see what I get. I am pretty picky with my starters though! :P Quote:
Edit on November 5, 2015: Well, it looks like I finally had a bit of time to start Explorers of Sky again! Now it's time for me to write one of those Journal Log things. xD (If this somehow becomes a problem for the club, then I'll make sure to stop posting these here!) In Super Mystery Dungeon, you can choose to either handpick your starter or take the personality quiz. Which method will you use, and which Pokémon do you hope to play as?
I think I might have a different set of teams unlike the last time in Gates To Infinity (Pikachu and Oshawott), and it will be partly chosen manually instead of by quizzes because I have some of it set in stone after I saw the glimpse of the story in Nintendo Treehouse, so I'll gonna pick Chespin as my partner. I'm still not sure what to choose as myself as of yet, though. |

I'm also pretty excited about Mega Evolution, but there's something that I feel is worth speculating about. Mega Evolution is considered the "bond between humans and Pokémon," but as we know, the Mystery Dungeon series is generally about the Pokémon themselves. That being said, do you have any cool ideas on how they might implement this? As for me, I think that since the player character is usually a human who transformed into a Pokémon, it is more likely that only the player and partner will have access to Mega Evolution due to their strong bonds with each other. However, the main problem is that they usually stay unevolved until after the story has ended, so there's still plenty of room for speculation. :p |

Anyway, I think it's appropriate to post a new discussion topic for now: What are your favorite Orbs/Seeds in the Mystery Dungeon games, and why? If you don't have any particular favorites, which ones do you find yourself using more often than others? |
I never did sign up for this club, did I?
Username: Laguna Pokémon Species: Aron Team Name: Strider Answer the current topic! I always make sure to have at least one Reviver Seed on me at all times, that's about it though. I don't really use seeds or orbs that much. |
What are your favorite Orbs/Seeds in the Mystery Dungeon games, and why? If you don't have any particular favorites, which ones do you find yourself using more often than others?
Pure Seeds and Reviver seeds i mean reviver need no explanation they help you get through dungeons but if im in peril like a monster house i can use a pure seed and go to the next floor pretty quick so ya thats like definately a fav of mine. Orbs i dont find myself using alot except for the petrify and foe hold orb for once again monster houses i mean seriously those things are scary D: i need my orb and seed support! |
This club seems amazing! uvu
Username: Kimochiru Pokémon Species: Jigglypuff Team Name: How about.... "The Wanderlust" Topic- What are you looking forwards to in SMD? Having got the game, I will say some thoughts as of now [aka spoilers]. So far the plot is decent, as it isn't rushed as much as GTI. So at least that's met my expectations! I'm in chapter 14-ish, and wow! It's so nostalgic! I almost want to burst with feels, seeing Igglybuff and Armaldo, Grovyle and Dusknoir, Wishcash and A.C.T., the Wigglytuff Guild, and Quagsire (hmm?) once more! It's the Connection Orb's old school throwbacks that really keep me going! All the while, SMD really did a great job developing the partner character. The mischievious, but passionate, personality is truly endearing. The background characters do not have as much depth as they did in Explorers of TDS, but they are unforgettable all the same. So far, I really like SMD! |

What are your favorite Orbs/Seeds in the Mystery Dungeon games, and why? If you don't have any particular favorites, which ones do you find yourself using more often than others? Lately I've been enjoying using Training Seed, because I can make my moves level up tad bit quickly. And here comes next question... For anyone who have played Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, what's your opinion about Looplets and Emeras, one of the new items in this game? |
Hello! I love the mystery dungeon series, so I'm glad to see there's a club for it. ♥
Username: Pond Pokemon Species: Cleffa, please! Team Name: Galaxy For anyone who have played Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, what's your opinion about Looplets and Emeras, one of the new items in this game? I found the idea of looplets weird at first, but they've been mega helpful and I absolutely adore them! |
Welcome aboard to the guild, Pond!
Personally, I used to not quite fond of looplets and emeras, but I find that some of its effects can mean good things. Type Bulldozer, Barrage, and Toughness, among others, are pretty good and can make it quite easier. Oh, and one more thing... you can use emeras as items to boost the stats when in adventure, as well! (Albeit not permanently) |
It is funny, I have played Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, but I have not joined this club.
Username: Judge Mandolore Shepard Pokemon Species: Honedge Team Name: Mandolorians For anyone who have played Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, what's your opinion about Looplets and Emeras, one of the new items in this game? When it comes to Looplets and Emeras, I find that they are quite interesting and are very useful for going through a dungeon. A few of my favorite Emeras are Toughness, Status Immunity, and Intimidator. |
Welcome to the guild, Judge Mandolore Shepard!
And I have a new question (it's been a while for this club to get one, isn't it?) In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, there are lots of rescue and exploration teams that you meet. What's your favorite rescue/exploration teams? |
Man, it's been a while since I was last here! Too bad I won't be able to talk about SMD since I haven't played it yet... But anyway, thanks for saving the club once again, Windy! ^^
(And welcome to everyone who joined! :D) Quote:
