Holy crap. This is amazing.

I sincerely apologise for being a self-entitled asshole. That applies for past, present and future discussions.

Nooo! Just tell them I'm asleep and I'll call them later. Genital mutilation is never the answer.

I'm looking into applying into other areas of hospitality, like hotels or something. They seem hella relaxing, plus I think they make a decent amount of money? At least, they make a lot more than I am lol. @[email protected]; So ye, a front desk clerk position doesn't sound all too bad.

Reminds me of RollerCoaster Tycoon, lol. Handymen make $50/mo, Security guards $60/mo, Mechanics $80/mo, and... Entertainers get $55/mo. Those wages are certifiable garbage lol no wonder you gotta move out

Be thankful I didn't drown you, because I do that a lot with bad employees. Unlike guests it's apparently not torturous at all to plop you on an uninhabited island, 'cause you never get tired o.o

Aww Derky! I know it's going to be hard, but you've learned a lot at your past job that will only help your future! Good luck with finding something though. I know you'll get something soon!!

Where there're hotels, there's tourism. And where there's tourism, there's business. Surely something around you that might be hiring keeps people coming?

Alexander Nicholi April 10th, 2015 4:34 PM

I was actually doing some Googling for a Python IRC services bot I'm writing, and Stack Overflow Careers had an ad with all of these computer science jobs. Heehee, it's so cute. It doesn't know I'm more interested in profitting off of people not knowing how to turn it off and on again ^^;;

Writing software is what I do for fun, like hell I'll work for that. Talk about ruining a passion. So, how about turning off your whole PC irreversibly with the monitor's power button, or irrevocably destroying your computer by emptying the recycle bin? Want to reply to that fake antivirus extortion trojan? Call me. :)

Not that I think I'll do poorly given my experience in the general hospitality industry, but I want to learn more about negotiating wages and see whether or not that actually reflects badly or whether the interviewer just doesn't care.

generally you don't ask about wages until the second interview... if there's no second interview, then you can ask whenever you meet with the hiring manager again or when you meet your potential new supervisor. it's usually not a good idea to ask about wages during the first interview unless they hire you right then and there.

So basically, it all has to do with the exact timing of the question and negotiation...so when I hear that I'm officially hired, then I start negotiating wages if applicable, right? Hopefully I don't screw it up. ;__; I also hear that it's better to give them a range to work with rather than exact figures.

yeah! when you're told that you're hired, you can definitely ask them about wages and negotiate if you feel they're wanting to pay you too low.

ranges are definitely easier for them to work with than exact figures, too.

Alexander Nicholi April 10th, 2015 7:50 PM

I'm just imagining how many desperate businesses are around here, waiting for skilled labour.

It makes me excited to work, because it means I'm not climbing an occupied rope.

Star-Lord April 10th, 2015 8:40 PM

I'm on the prowl for the job hunt too - Funny enough also in the hospitality industry, hotel preferred.

My situation is a bit trickier though unfortunately. The main thing being that I'm actually applying for jobs in another country. I've been issued a visa to work/live in the United Kingdom! So I'm stuck with doing all the bullshit of online job applications. I loathe them, I'd rather just waste the bloody money on paper for a printer/envelopes and hand them all in person. At least that way I know my CV has gone to the manager.

I can't even get an interview. I like to think that I have a strong enough CV to get into an entry level job in a new industry - I have two years of work at Tim Hortons, ranging from general fast food reception work to more of a supervisor/self-managed role. (Back of house duties, training, etc.) I know that I can apply my skills in a new field and kill an interview because I have tons of stories and anecdotes to back up my experience. Being a Canadian applying online for work in the UK ain't helpful though. :P

Although! I did get an email with an invitation to an open event for a restaurant. Problem being it's in the UK before the date I'm allowed to enter the country :(. I did ask for the possibility of Skype. We'll see.

Although tbf I'll even work at fucking McDonalds in the UK if I have to. It's still something new.

The most I'll do is prob take one bus to work and that'll be it. It's ridiculous that I currently have to take two or three (depending on my shift and overall bus schedules) to get to my current one, even though realistically by a car it's like 15 mins away. >.>;;

Sometimes the Department of Transportation wants you to go through hell and half of Georgia to get down the street. you know, to see the city and stuff!

Your tax dollars proudly going to waste. And your time.

I'm alive. It seems nobody is trying to hit 5k before the end of this month.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2015 10:32 AM

Looks like we have to kick people into action then :D

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2015 10:37 AM

Music or food.

mm food :D

Sonata April 11th, 2015 10:39 AM

I had some rotisserie chicken and potato salad for lunch. It was pretty good. The chicken was much better last night though. I ended up putting a little bit of barbecue sauce on it today.

Hikamaru April 11th, 2015 10:40 AM

Music is always something that ignites me in these chats. I'm probably one of those people here on PC who actually cares about the underground scene, because it exists and it's full of such great talent... and trust me, major chart hits have been dreadful lately.

Sirfetch’d April 11th, 2015 10:41 AM

I had leftover pizza for lunch! Was too hungry to wait on it to reheat so I ate it straight from the fridge. Mmmm it was so good too.

Hikamaru April 11th, 2015 10:45 AM

I never really get the chance to have big meals, but I am somehow good at making a quick pizza or two.
