I usually like to pick Torchic when I play through Hoenn, so that's what I went with for AS. For OR I picked Treecko so I could mix things up a bit.
Treeko, and I've been rather disappointed. I gotta stop getting my hopes up over Grass types.

AS: Mudkip
OR: Torchic Soon, I'll reset OR and get a treecko too, but those 2 are cutest! |
I will always choose Torchic. I can't even imagine a play-through without him.
Torchic was my go to in R/S/E and in ORAS. Fire has always been first choice and I couldn't have been happier with Torchic.
Blaziken was a badass back in the day and nowadays he's top notch. |
Torchic. I think it has the best final evolution and it's preevolution is very catching to the eye.
I chose Torchic strictly for sentimental reasons (it was my starter in the original Sapphire version). If I ever replay the games I'll definitely pick a different starter, though, just to try something different.
I picked Mudkip because the Mega looks so awesome and hilarious at the same time. I feel as if Torchic was the least picked starter in ORAS since the whole Mega Blaziken event occured in X/Y (nothing against Torchic fans)
Typically I tend to lean toward fire starters, but this time around for some unknown reason I went with Treecko. But oddly I'm satisfied with this choice.
I picked Treecko, but I went back and got the others from friends and basically decided which one I liked best, which ended up staying Treecko. I flip flop with types though, sometimes I prefer water, grass, or fire. It doesn't really matter to me at the end of the day, so long as I enjoy the pokemon and they're good in battle. It's a combination effort for me.
Mudkip as water is probably my second favourite type I normally go with water starters, when I started speed running omega ruby I was so happy that you speedrun half of it was mudkip :D
I picked Mudkip every single time I ever played Ruby so for Alpha Saphire I figured I'd go with Torchic. I like Torchic and Combusken. Not sure on Blaiziken yet.
I picked Mudkip for Omega Ruby. Way back in the day when I first got Pokémon Sapphire I picked Torchic, though.
I picked Torchic for Alpha Sapphire. For my Nuzlocke in OR though, I rolled a 6 so had to go with Mudkip.
Originally I picked Treecko because I rarely use grass types and I wanted to try something new, and I'm happy with my choice, but I also wish I could've had Torchic as well since I've always wanted a Blaziken.
I just saw results... why is everyone hating torchic!?!?
I had to choose Treecko, I've always been a sucker for the Grass starters.

I picked Torchic, always was my favorite of the Hoenn starters. On my Omega Ruby I picked Mudkip though. I really never liked Treecko, but I do like his evolutions.
I'm actually surprised not a lot of people picked Torchic. MegaBlaze is pretty powerful later in the game and useful. I find fire type pokemon harder to come across

Since I already have the event speed boost Torchic from my X version I chose Treecko this time around. I'm loving Mega Sceptile.
I choose Treecko as my starter during Omega Ruby. In terms of design i prefer Blaziken much more between those 3 starters. I wonder if people voted out of their fav or over what they really choose in-game xD I wonder what other people voted as their fav style and design in the 3 starters.
Mudkip has always been my favorite so I picked Mudkip as my starter. I loved Mega Swampert too!
I like mudkipz :mudkip;):
I chose Mudkip because I have always chosen the Water-type Starter Pokemon. The Water type is my favorite type and Mega Swampert is awesome!!!
Treecko, as I like it the best design-wise, and I really like Sceptile's mega as well! I also picked it as Sceptile is one of my all-time favorite Pokemon. :)
On Omega Ruby I picked Torchic. I've always loved fire starters and back when I first got Ruby I picked Torchic and Mega Blaziken is pretty amazing. For Alpha Sapphire I picked Trecko because who couldn't pick the adorable grass pokemon!?!?!
I chose Mudkip!
I had chosen the adorable water-type when I first played Sapphire on the GameBoy Advance and decided to stick with it for Alpha Sapphire. Although I must say, I like Mega Blaziken's and Mega Sceptile's designs better than Mega Swampert's... I don't know--something just seems off about Mega Swampert. |
I picked Mudkip, because I picked Torchic in Ruby and Sapphire. I believe I picked Treecko in Emerald.
I picked Torchic, just like I did in my original Ruby. :19:
Out of all three starters I choose Treecko for OmegaRuby and Torchic for AlphaSapphire.
Treecko is my favorite out of all three starters though. |
Originally in Sapphire I also chose Mudkip in my tradition of picking water starters as my first one and when I started ORAS I wanted to relive the memories of my first Sapphire gameplay so I chose Mudkip again. The fact that it was a water type but immune to electric attacks kind of just blew my mind.
Mudkip is the cutest<3 and strong!!!
I decided to go with Treeco but I haven't really used him much. I wanted to try playing without using my starter so right now with 3 badges in, my team is Electrike and Wingull.
I chose Treecko, because it brought back a lot of memories from my first game; Emerald,
He masked a lot of firsts for me in Emerald, My first Lvl 100, My first beating of a league and many others. He even beat Red in Soul Silver when my uncle transferred it. Which he then started a new game :(, That was oe of the worst days of my life, I am using a Blaziken I got a torchic though. Maybe I can use Swampert, I do have a mudkip so... |
I chose Treecko even though I chose Mudkip in Pokemon Ruby. Over the years, I have really grown fond of Treecko, especially since it has become the underdog when compared to the other two starters. Underdogs tug at my heart strings.

Went with Mudkip since i liek mudkipz it was what I picked in Sapphire and I figured I might as well have continuity.
I honestly couldn´t really decide between Treeko and Mudkip, because I like them both, but I chose Mudkip since it was my ever first starter in Emerald. Now that we have ORAS and you can have as many of the starters as you want I mostly picked Treeko because of the several HM moves it can learn. The only one I never picked was Torchic because I simply never liked its design.
Mudkip just like what I had done in Ruby. Alpha Sapphire I haven't really played it because I haven't found a good challenge I want to do in that game so it'll be whatever suits the challenge if I even decide to keep my starter.
I remember that I chose Mudkip in my first Pokémon Emerald and, when I received Pokémon OR, I choose Mudkip again. Now it's a great Swampert.
Just picked up AS today (along with a New 3DSXL!! :D) and I picked Mudkip. Mudkip and Torchic are probably the ones I like best, design-wise, however, I never really got too attached to the Generation 3 starters. I might be putting Mudkip in the computer soon in favor of something more fun to use....
Finally finished AS so I can stop avoiding this board for spoilers!
Since I went with Treecko my first time around in Sapphire, it only seemed natural to go back to it for AS. If I play through again I might pick Torchic next time, but Treecko will always be my favorite of the three. |

I picked Torchic in my Alpha Sapphire file since i wanted to experience having Mega Blaziken in my in-game team, with that delicious Speed Boost the Mega-fied Blaziken has, which usually sweeps a lot of in-game trainers far up the backside.
It wasn't easy picking the starter that i want since Gen 3 was indeed the gen that had amazing starters with variable strengths and weaknesses, and which all of them looked really cool when fully evolved. The kind of Pokemon that one can easily be proud of. I could have gone Mudkip or Treeko as well but I wanted to make a nod to the starter that i picked in Ruby (Gen 3) so i went with Torchic, the starter that got me playing the games again. |
I used to always choose Treecko because Sceptile is in my top 5 favourite Pokemon but, I decided to use Mudkip in Omega Ruby because Swampert is badass. I hate Blaziken so I wasn't going to choose Torchic.
I am seeing a lot of people who picked a certain Pokemon because they picked it on their first run-through. Did anyone do the opposite of that? Blaziken rules but I am thinking of picking a different one...
I choosed Treecko. Sceptile is one of my favourite pokemon, so it's naturally for me to take Treecko. The other two are also very nice, but I decided to take them another time.
in my ruby version i choose treecko but in the omegaruby i pick torchic to make a little change :P
I did three runs, all with different starters. My favorite starter was Treecko. I find it quite a challenge to go with Treecko (according to Mudkip being the easiest and Torchic "medium"). And I really love Sceptile's Mega evo, not only because of the design but also it is a Dragon-type, which I love too. Eventhough in OR my fav starter is Treecko, I'm used to picking Torchic as favorite in Emerald back in the days.
Definitely picked Mudkip because I chose Torchic every single time I played the older versions and Treecko is a joke.
Torchic! Because Blaziken is my favorite Pokemon.
Do I really need to say? I'm gonna get all 3 eventually though.
I picked Mudkip first out of a throwback to the past. Mudkip was my starter on Pokémon Ruby, which was the first Pokémon game I ever completed. That Swampert eventually became the first Pokémon I ever levelled all the way up to 100. It was completely awesome and I've never loved a Pokémon as much, my friend deleted the save file it was on (along with my first ever real shiny not named Gyarados Dusclops). It was genuinely a harrowing experience. |
Had to go with the ever-faithful Torchic/Blaziken because you cannot ignore the fire-fighting combo moves along with balanced stats at high level. I had one in the original Sapphire that kicked some serious butt, but during Ruby I trained a Swampert that stole my heart. This along with Sceptile's sweeet Mega evolution has made it forever hard to choose between the three.
I picked mudkip. It would seem mudkip is in the lead at the time of this comment. I’ve seen other websites with polls like this one. From what I have seen on most of those polls, mudkip often ends up winning the most popular vote.
I used all 3 Starters. My in-game choice was Torchic (I always pick Fire on my first playthrough of a Pokemon game), but I've bred and traded Treecko and Mudkip. I like all 3 Starters and used all 3 equally in the original games, so when I first heard about Ruby and Sapphire getting remade, I thought it would be unfair to only use one of them and decided to start the journey with all 3.
I went with Torchic, since that's what I picked for my original Ruby file, for nostalgia's sake.
I choose Torchic because Mega Blaziken has the best ability.
Treecko because I love grass types <3
Mudkip for AS, Torchic for OR
I chose Mudkip in OmegaRuby & Treecko in AlphaSapphire
I chose Mudkip in Omega Ruby because I grew tired of using Blaziken and Sceptile. I've been overusing my HA Blaziken on Battle Maison challenges in my Pokemon Y and I already chose Treecko in my Sapphire run when I was a kid. I decided to have a change of pace by choosing Mudkip as a starter and didn't regret it as Mega Swampert is power in my team.
Treeko because I knew Team Aqua would use water type Pokemon and Treeko could one hit KO most of them. Did hesitate a bit because Mega Blaziken is awesome and mudkip's line was cool but Treeko won out. If I ever get Omega Ruby I will probably go for Mudkip.
I picked Torchic for my first go of AS, I just couldn't say no to the thought of Mega-Blaziken lol :p
Treeco all the way baby. I don't know why but Treeco grew on me, I literally didn't choose my starter for about 15 minutes because I was thinking about who to choose.
Mudkip.
I can't work well with Treecko and Torchic for some reason since wayyyy back. And Swampert is all-awesome. |

I will admit to being quite new to the Pokemon franchise, having only been around for 3 years. But, when I got Omega Ruby, I started with Mudkip. Because. Internet memes. And I had already raised a Torchic in my X playthrough. And I really liked it! A lot! I named him Kipper. :3
In both the original Ruby & Sapphire as well as the remakes, I'd nearly always pick Mudkip. Partly because I liked the way Mudkip looked, and partly because Swampert with it's Water/Ground type ruled almost everything.
During my first playthrough of AS, I chose Mudkip (keeping true to my original play of Sapphire back in the day). However during my current playthrough of OR I've chosen Treecko due to me wanting to explore other options in regards to water Pokemon in the region.
I chose Mudkip since I loved how Mega Swampert has swift swim as its ability, and me being the kind to happily run Rain teams back in the Gen 5 days of OP Weather effects, Swift Swim sweeping was something that I really enjoyed.
I chose Mudkip because I wanted to try him out instead of the usual choice of Torchic.
I picked Mudkip because I wanted the muscles that is Mega Swampert. But next time, I think I'll pick Treecko because I haven't used it in a long time.
Normally I would always pick Treecko, but this time I switched it up and got Mudkip which I kind of regret since I felt like I would have enjoyed using Sceptile so much more than I did Swampert
I always pick the fire type in Pokemon games so i picked Torchic :)
Plus Blaziken is just freaking amazing |
During the original Ruby and Sapphire, my classmates had the games before I was given one. I was undecided on a starter. I actually based my choice after getting the R/S booster pack. In it contained the Sceptile holofoil card.
http://ep.yimg.com/ay/yhst-129348013119471/ex-ruby-sapphire-sceptile-holofoil-15.jpg I choose Treecko in the original and remake. In the original, my ID/OT was Nicole and my starter was named Scarlett (for the red coloring on Sceptile's body). In Alpha Sapphire, my starter was named Victor because both Nicole and Victor mean victory. Scarlett is also the ID/OT for my X/Y trainer. Am I just limited on names or do I create some cute meaningful way to synchronize my collection of Pokemon games lol. |
I chose Torchic, but I also traded in Cyndaquil, Leafeon and Umbreon
Mudkip because it has the only final evolution that I don't think is completely stupid.
In Omega Ruby I picked Mudkip because I picked Treecko in Sapphire and used Torchic for a bit in Y, not on my team but enough. Mainly because I had never used it before.
During my first time playing, I was forced to pick Torchic because my friends and I did not want to have the same starters. Torchic is easily my least favorite out of the Hoenn starters. I recently made a new file on my OR and picked Treecko. Treecko has always been my favorite grass starter and one of my favorite Pokemon.
I chose treecko and after 4 days of SRing, i finally got him shiny yesterday ;)
i picked mudkip as i always go for water starters.
I picked Mudkip because I never really used it in the original games. I figured I would make for lost time.
chose treecko because I love it with all my heart <3
I picked Torchic, fire starter represent!
I picked Mudkip, because I thought he looked the coolest of the three. Little did I know he would evolve into an absolute beast wrecking havoc all over Hoenn. >:)
Haven't u heard I liek mudkipz.
Even though Mudkip turns into a beast when it evolves, I went with Treeko. Treeko was the pokemon I went with in my very first Emerald playthrough and I wanted to bring back the memories in ORAS.
I picked Torchic in Omega Ruby, same as I did with original Ruby. And Mudkip in Alpha Sapphire, my other favorite starter. :)
Chose Treecko. Treecko is life
im surprised blaziken was the least picked. I guess mudkips water ground combo is too sweet to pass up for the stats it has.
i picked torchic because i had used the other two more recently in older versions of the game on my phone. ^^
