The Prism Cup (Challengers Welcome)

With the unanimous support of our members, I'm proud to finally announce the 3DS Division of the Prism League's first tournament, The Prism Cup!

The premise of the tournament is simple. Leaders and Elites will retain their typings from the Prism League proper, and challengers can pick two the available types in our list on a first come, first serve basis:

Typing List

The Trainer who receives the Prism Cup, as well as the 2 runners up, will receive some very rare Pokemon including shinies, event-only legends and hidden abilities, and generation-locked level up moves such as Extreme Speed and Defog that are breedable in the current generation. Due to the number of them, I've also committed the prizes to a spreadsheet:

Prizes

Rules Unique to the Cup:

Spoiler:
- Participants may select a different team for each round of the tournament, based on their opponent's typing, dissatisfaction in previous matches, etc. This is allowed in order to provide a concession to typing underdogs (Dragon and Ground vs. Ice and Fairy, as an extreme example), as well as format fluidity for all typings. Nonetheless, we all have our signature Pokemon that we run, and should you be suspected of counter teaming against those signatures, you will be disqualified.

- Since we are all type-locked, participants will be permitted to use type-changed Mega Evolutions so long as the final form includes one of their chosen types. EX: if a participant's types are Fairy and Electric, they may use Mega Audino. The Pokemon will be required to mega evolve during the match, failing to do so will result in an automatic disqualification.

- Each participant will declare a preferred format (Doubles and Singles are allowed). Should your format match your opponent's, that will be the format for the match. If you do not have a preference, the battle will be in your opponent's preferred format. Should a disagreement arise, or if neither opponent prefers a particular format, the match's format will fall to a coin toss: Heads for Doubles, Tails for Singles.

- Each round will last for a single week. You will be responsible for coordinating with your opponent to secure a match within this time frame. Results will be tallied at 22:00 MST the on the final night of each round (Friday). If results have not been posted by 22:00 the night prior to conclusion (Thursday), a participant may claim their opponent absent for the match. The opponent will have until the end of the round to contest their absence. In the event that the absence is contested, victory will fall to a coin flip. Otherwise, the participant who attended the match will win by default.

- More to be declared, this is open to discussion.

League Standard Rules:

Spoiler:
-All battles are 6v6

-This league will be using most of Smogon's ORAS OU rules, which can be found here.

-All Pokemon on this list are banned from both divisions. Any challengers who use these Pokemon will be disqualified.

-Dark Void is banned in all Double battles.

-Both league members and challengers must save all battle videos and post them here so we can confirm a challenger's victory.

-In the event of a disconnect, attempt to battle again, unless it is clear who the winner was. Take a picture of your PSS screen immediately after the battle ends as proof of who was the one to disconnect.

-Follow all the rules of the PokeCommunity.

Registration opens today and will end on May 16th or when no more types are available, whichever comes first. Please respond with your preferred battle format in order to be counted. Challengers, please include your selected typing as well.

The tournament's first round will begin on May 30th! Let's hit the breeding ground and get those teams started, folks.

I'll take it! InnnnnnnnnNNNNNNN HO

Edit: I've been instructed to include my preferred format in this post. :J

In case you all didn't know.

It is triples

lol no it's doubles, double battles.

Charcoal Embers April 29th, 2015 8:01 PM

Looks like I am going to be with the big boys/girls here. XD Hope I don't choke and mess up. XD

While I prefer Singes, Doubles is never not an option. And I will be using the Grass and Normal Types.

skyburial April 29th, 2015 8:04 PM

Aaaaaand I should mention that my preferred format is Doubles.

ScraggyTrainer April 29th, 2015 8:07 PM

Definitely in. I would like to use fairy/fire and my preferred format is doubles

rob_thijs April 29th, 2015 8:13 PM

My preferred format is not singles and hell no not doubles. I'm going for the Triple Battles. GLHF

Or I'm I just a fool and do I have to choose between doubles and singles?

Hey Scraggy, if you want to use this typing you will have to officially switch to it through the main Prism League thread and go through the approval process. You'd be joining this tournament as a leader with your Psychic/Fairy typing until then.

I updated the rules to accommodate players without a preference :)

Will the format be declared some time before the battle start? Let's say your team is for Singles but you have to do a Double battle cause your opponent wins the toss.
You opponent clearly has an advantage cause the team for singles probally would not have support moves and protect on them.

This was one of the primary reasons behind the match selection clause:

"Participants may select a different team for each round of the tournament..."

I'd invite you to prepare Pokemon for both Doubles and Singles should you pursue the no-preference option. I'll announce the new matches in the same post as each round's tally.

I am in, obviously :-)

Going to be a lot of fun!

Woot! Singles as your preferred format, right?

Blueboi22 April 29th, 2015 9:20 PM

Count me in. Singles FTW

Krystia April 29th, 2015 10:18 PM

wait, are we using our own league type or we can choose?

Nah April 30th, 2015 3:17 AM

We made a separate thread for this?

Anyway, I guess I can't not be in this, so......

And yeah, Singles is preferred format

Charcoal Embers April 30th, 2015 3:58 AM

I'm just glad I got such a versatile type. I have TONS of options with normal. I already have a nice Combo for doubles that I like. :P

skyburial April 30th, 2015 5:54 AM

Folks, I am working on getting together some prizes for the players who place in the top 3. They'll be Pokemon that are difficult to obtain in the current generation. I can personally contribute Extreme Speed Dratini, Defog Scyther, and Chimchar and Timburr with Iron Fist. I'm waiting to hear back from some breeders, shoot me a message if you'd like to contribute to the winners' pot.

As ScraggyTrainer demonstrated above, leaders/members will use their assigned typings as of the final date to register. Challengers, who aren't normally type-locked, are allowed to choose from the remaining types so that they can participate.

The subject didn't really conveniently fit into league challenges or discussion of league rules, and I didn't want a lot of cross talk happening between this and other league matters.

ScraggyTrainer May 1st, 2015 8:29 AM

I can offer a modest ev trained 6 iv shiny male Gardevoir for a prize if I can get it cloned. I also have Shiny adamant ev trained Terrakion (not sure ivs) and Shiny 3 iv adamant entei. Wonder trade is a great place

skyburial May 1st, 2015 9:55 AM

I was going to breach the subject of prizes but it looks as though Scraggy gets to have that pleasure :)

I threw out the idea a few days ago of awarding the 3 players who place in Gold, Silver, and Bronze in the Prism Cup with Pokemon that are hard to find in Generation VI (previous Gen moves, Event-only, etc.) and the results have been astounding. We've got a total offering of 22 mons and counting, folks. Legends will be reserved for 1st place and the breedables will be dispersed among the 3 highest placing participants.

I'm editing a spreadsheet into the OP of everything we've received so far. Rob and Dylan, if you could please provide me with either your Gmail addresses or the missing details in your sections of the sheet.

Major shout out to Cakesu, whose generosity knows no bounds.

ScraggyTrainer May 1st, 2015 10:34 AM

All of mine are Kalos born. The Gardevoir has Trace for an ability. Gardevoir's ivs are erfect, Terrakion's ivs are perfect except for defense, and the Entei has 31 in Defense, Special Attack, and Sp Defense. The Entei's evs are 252 atk, 252 speed, 4 hp. Terrakion has 252 atk, 252 speed, and 6 Sp Atk (I think, not trained by me). Gardevoir has 24 def, 232 Sp atk, and 252 speed. Anything else you need to know?

skyburial May 1st, 2015 10:49 AM

Does the Gardy have any egg moves?

rob_thijs May 1st, 2015 10:52 AM

I think the prices should be discussed in a PM or VM.

Yeah I suppose. If you have new prizes post them here and then we can discuss them and old prizes in a PM. That sound good?

skyburial May 1st, 2015 11:23 AM

I am in agreement. Also, if anyone else has prizes to contribute, it will only make victory that much sweeter.

PicPax May 1st, 2015 7:29 PM

I assume this is where I post? Well, my preferred Battle Format is Singles and I decided that I would use my two favorite Types; Poison and Steel. Let's just hope I don't come across 20 Garchomps.

TGM May 1st, 2015 7:33 PM

I'll be participating.

My preferred battling type is doubles.
