Pokémon Choice Quest - Chapter 61. A shocking sensation

Spoiler: April Fools edit by Meadow

Hiya folks. I present you Pokémon Choice Quest, a game following the template of the many Choose Your Own Adventure games here.
Everyone together plays a character following its adventure in the Pokémon World. How? That's up to you!
  • There are constantly several options what to do next. Everyone can vote once for the option he/she likes mostly, motivation isn't necessary, but is encouraged.
  • These days a new poll appears every week, but it can be more often if I feel like. (read: have time)
  • The cycle continues.
  • Beware: You can actually die when you make bad choices or risk to much. In case of such situation you return to a previous 'check point' and the death count is raised by one.
  • All general and Pokémon Trivia rules apply.
  • Note: I'm a human too and might not be active every day, so don't go crazy when the game isn't updated.
  • Have fun!

You wake up with a strange feeling. Today will be the day you will start your journey as a Pokémon trainer! Screw those kids who start exactly on their birthday, today feels just like the perfect day for this. You jump out of bed and get dressed.
When you leave your house just after finishing breakfast you realize one little detail: you don't have any Pokémon. How should you be a Pokémon trainer without Pokémon?

What do you do?
  1. Meh. Why even care about Pokémon? You can handle stuff yourself.
  2. Let's get back in and beg Dad to give some Pokémon.
  3. There must be a lot of wild Pokémon outside, let's take a look.
  4. There's a lot of junk in the shed, maybe there are some useful items there.

Aslan May 4th, 2015 12:13 PM

Okay let's see what's inside the shed! Who needs parental help anyway?

Squirrel May 4th, 2015 1:23 PM

Love the look of this, should be exciting to play! I'll sticky it for now so you can get the first few days off to a good start and hopefully people will get into a rhythm from there :D

As for now, I think we should go for #3! I'm sure there are a lot of cute Pokémon walking around the town ;)

blue May 4th, 2015 1:44 PM

Great idea for a new game. 8)

#4 seems the best course of action, I'm pretty sure there are some Pokéballs lying around in that shed!

Sylphiel May 4th, 2015 1:45 PM

#4, let's go for the shed, better make sure I'm definitely prepared for going out there!

Guardian May 4th, 2015 1:48 PM

I'd go with 1, but who the hell says "why care about Pokemon" after saying they want to become a Pokemon trainer?! Oh that's right, hi Silver and Gary. Sorry cant hear ya from this champion throne of mine lol.

Let's go with #3 this time. I wouldnt mind a Growlithe or even a Pidgey for starters.

cRaCkZ May 4th, 2015 4:37 PM

#2 if my dad is a powerful Gym Leader :)

Dedenne1 May 4th, 2015 7:34 PM

1. Meh. Why even care about Pokémon? You can handle yourself. If you dont have a cute poke you cant survive in this world
2. Let's get back in and beg Dad to give some Pokémon. Your father could really care less and no more crying to daddy!
3. There must be a lot of wild Pokémonn outside, let's take a look. (DING DING DING)
4. There's a lot of junk in the shed, maybe there are some useful items there. Im looking for a pokemon....not items I'll go to the Pokemart for those.

I mean comeon whats the worst thing that can happen in the tall grass?

Guardian May 4th, 2015 9:05 PM

Ikr, nothing can go wrong in the tall grass, you might even bump into a Dratini or something. *hint hint HAN hint*

Percy May 4th, 2015 9:36 PM

This looks like fun!

I'll go with choice #4

NoOneAtAll May 4th, 2015 11:25 PM

Option 3 didn't sound too bad, but as I presumably have no pokéballs... I'll go with #4.

2. Looting your shed
Location: Bluestream Forest

You walk through your backyard to a small shed, you open the door and switch on the light. Let's see, what of this can be useful? After some searching you find a butterfly net that might be usable to catch your Pokémon. You decide to take a hammer and a bucket too. Who knows when those might come in handy.
You leave the shed and walk to the town square. "Bluestream Town", a sign says, which happens exactly to be the name of your home town. Sadly there's not much to do here, so you decide to walk towards the forest nearby. It looks like many bug Pokémon swarm around here at the moment.

What do you do?
  1. Bug Pokémon? Butterfly net? Let's do this!
  2. There must be an excellent view if you climb in a tree.
  3. Forests are boring, quickly running through is the best option.
  4. Maybe going on adventure alone wasn't the best idea ever. Let's return home and watch television.

Guardian May 5th, 2015 1:48 PM

4. Lets return home and watch television! This wouldnt be Pokemon Trivia sub forum if we did anything the normal way, including a Pokemon Story!
Also, bug Pokemon? Uh-oh, not if I have a vote.
ALSO, hammer? Are we catching a Rhydon or a bug lmao!

Squirrel May 5th, 2015 3:04 PM

I'll go for #3, run through the forest and hope we trip over something cooler than a Bug-type along the way!

Astinus May 5th, 2015 3:30 PM

I like the sound of option 1! We have the tools to catch a bug Pokemon. Let's get one so we have protection when we run across something else.

magicarp4thewin May 5th, 2015 3:36 PM

#2 find the biggest and sturdiest tree possible and look for a Pokemon you wouldn't be embarrassed to own ... And that bucket might be useful for scooping up an aquatic pokemon... Maybe a nice magikarp lol

Sylphiel May 5th, 2015 3:36 PM

#1~ I have a butterfly net and BY GOLLY I'M GOING TO USE IT!

Percy May 5th, 2015 4:17 PM

#1 seems the choice that makes sense, so I'm gonna go there.

Etherion May 5th, 2015 7:44 PM

Going with...

Bug Pokémon? Butterfly net? Let's do this!

Aslan May 5th, 2015 10:35 PM

why is there no 'use hammer' option :((

Let's use our butterfly net! I think the legendary Metapod resides in this forest.

Guardian May 5th, 2015 11:46 PM

I actually wouldnt mind catching a Venipede so go for it! Still, I want to mess up at least one of the polls so this one's it. But it seems like no one is up for watching TV anyway.

I bet you wouldn't think of me being embarrassed if you bumped into me riding a huge Dragon snake after splashing away a bunch of Metapods and whatnot now, would you!

Don't worry Sven, there will be plenty of chances to mess up everything. I'll make sure to have options available.

1. Bug Pokémon? Butterfly net? Let's do this! 5 votes

I really like how the first four votes were all different, but then everything turned on #1.

Hyzenthlay May 6th, 2015 6:50 AM

Oooh, I could catch myself a cute little Sewaddle! Can't go wrong with #1, for sure!

P.S. Nice idea, HAN!

3. Gotcha!
Location: Bluestream Forest

As a Pokémon trainer, you gotta catch 'em all. Catching at least one is a good way to start. "Go, butterfly net!" you shout as you raise the net in the air, looking for the nearest butterfly Pokémon to catch. Sadly your war shout scared off most of the wild Pokémon, not that there were any butterflies anyway, but you notice a Venonat watching you curiously. (Is he laughing at you?) You remember it evolving into a butterfly, so the effect would practically be the same. You don't take the time to think and swing the net towards the insect, which swiftly dodged it. After two more tries slamming the net around the wild Pokémon, you managed to get it inside your net. In your enthusiasm, you broke the net's stick. But that doesn't matter, you finally have your first Pokémon! Now it's hoping it won't escape the net.
As you walk further, nothing important happens. Most Pokémon still seem to be hiding from you. A Caterpie camouflages itself between the leaves, a Spearow flies away above the treetops, a Venipede shoots away into the bushes. Not much later you see the exit of the forest, while still holding a Venonat in a broken net under your arm.

What do you do?
  1. Look for a small room to lock yourself into, giving no escape possibilities for Venonat.
  2. Who said I had enough already of that forest? Turn around and go back.
  3. There must be a PokéMart in the next town, supplies would be helpful.
  4. Now would be a great time for a picnic somewhere in the fields.
Additionally, you can give a nickname to the 'captured' Venonat if you want. Suggestions?

magicarp4thewin May 6th, 2015 8:16 AM

Hmmm #3 seems to be the obvious choice... But that's no fun lol. I'll vote #4 and use the power of food to bond with venonat

(Still think we should've went with the bucket for a water type)

Guardian May 6th, 2015 9:41 AM

No! You go back into that bush after the Venipede!
Also, doesnt Venonat fight back while you're carrying in a cheap netlol?
This is really fun, dont mind me protesting all the time :D

Also, is it just me or we never actually told anyone we went on a journey?
Also, how old are we?
Real me would probably have a snack, but the more real me would go back and find a Pokemon I'd be satisfied with.
Also can you provide us with some info like what season at time it is? :)

Anyway, I vote for 2, turn around and get something more. I actually dont mind Venomoth and Venonat despite the color, but we could use more Pokemon.

Percy May 6th, 2015 3:47 PM

Choice #3 for me!

Guardian May 6th, 2015 3:54 PM

Why do everyone wants supplies, are we a Pokemon trainer or a Traveling Vendor? :P
Unless we need pokeballs though...

Squirrel May 6th, 2015 4:47 PM

Venonat is cool, I vote #4 so we can make friends with him by offering food :D Not sure on a nickname yet though... how about Scrambles because they always look so confused?

Suicune May 6th, 2015 8:38 PM

4. Now would be a great time for a picnic somewhere in the fields.

I'm not sure if we remembered to bring any food with us, but a picnic would be nice for bonding, and maybe an encounter! Not sure about a nickname, hehe.

Don't forget the options are things you want to do, it isn't specified if they will succeed. Who knows, there might not even be a PokéMart in the closest town, or even a town at all. Or the Mart could be trapped or taken over by the local evil gang.

I really doubt how effective that would be, as it has a bottom. The water can't flow through and will partly push the water Pokémon out of the bucket instead of enclosing it. I think using a butterfly net would be more efficient. ;)

You clearly demanded for a Venipede, so I had to give one a cameo.

It's stuck, so it lacks the room to Tackle. And anybody should know that butterfly nets are super effective against bug Pokémon.

This is the Pokémon world, there live Pokémon in other places too. And with "other places too", I mean like everywhere. What did you do in your playthrough? Sticking around in Viridian Forest because there still kept appearing other Pokémon and you got to catch them all?

Scrambles sounds good. :)
Other options are still welcome, then there could be a second poll regarding the name.

yeah, usually I do actually
Still, That's what I'd do irl probably, so there you have it :D

As for the nickname, we can call him (assuming it's a male), Bugger or Flyon (flying posion or somethin', I suck at creating nicknames tbh)

Omg this would be the most perfect picnic ever it sounds so wonderful ♥♥♥ There's no way Venonat could leave after trying some IKEA meatballs.

4. An early lunch
Location: Greenseed Town

You leave the forest and are glad you're back in open space. Even though you took a decent breakfast this morning you decide to sit down for a while next to the road and eat a bit of your lunch. During this, you have your attention focused on the Venonat, which seems really interested in your cheese sandwich. You break the sandwich in half and give half of it to your Pokémon, which calmly sits down and accepts it. Seeing him enjoying the meal, persuades you to remove the remains of the net and lift him on your lap. It seems you get along well. You think you should give him a nickname, but are out of inspiration for the moment. You're going to think about this later.
Following the road leads you to Greenseed Town, a farmer's town, famous for its Miltank ranch.

Where do you go?
  1. Pokémon Center, to get some trainer advice.
  2. PokéMart, to get some items.
  3. Miltank ranch, to check it out.
  4. The bakery, because food, that's why.
  5. Corn fields, to see if they obscure something interesting.
Secondly, what will Venonat's nickname be?
  1. Scrambles
  2. Bugger
  3. Flyon
  4. Creepy
Next update expected in ~23h.

Guardian May 7th, 2015 11:28 AM

Trainer advice? We dont need that, here is the advice, RUN! There are Miltanks out there! RUN, and DONT look back!

Lol, good job HAN on doing this btw, that...format you're using looks really neat. And your writing is really good too.

1. I just gave you one.
2.You seem to really want us to go get us some items. What are your hidden intentions?
3.See 1!
4.We just ate!
5.At first, no, cos bugs, but on the other hand, we could stumble upon another Venipede, or Pidgey or even some nice snakes so YES, this one gets my vote.

As for the names, I vote B or C

Suicune May 7th, 2015 12:56 PM

Although items would probably be good, I'm super curious about #5! Maybe we can find something (or someone) there that can help.

I also like the name A. Scrambles for Venonat. :)

Aslan May 7th, 2015 1:00 PM

Let's go to the corn fields! THERE'S FOOD AND MYSTERY COMBINED GUYS

For names, I vote A! Scrambles makes it sound like a cute egg.

Percy May 7th, 2015 4:32 PM

choice #1!
And for nicknames? I pick A.!

DyingWillFlareon May 7th, 2015 8:03 PM

Naturally, I'd go to the Mart, but I wanna see those darn cornfeilds! #5!!

And name Venomat B., haha, Bugger. X3

Meadow May 7th, 2015 8:10 PM

Hmm... The bakery, because food, that's why. With a PokéStory mindset, I think this is spot-on. ;P

And I personally think Venonat should be named Bugger. xD

Guardian May 7th, 2015 8:38 PM

If we include the Pokestory on this one, we can expect to see a wild Sandshrew in the cornfield that will immediately after we see it die, probably after being stepped on by a dancing Zekrom which also would conveniently appear right after we see a Nurse Joy chasing a Poochyena with a huge injection. And ofc Sandshrew would then be revived and join out team, and probably evolve into a Starmie.
Approved by Pokemon Trivia

HAN btw why dont you vote for next moves and nicknames too though?

magicarp4thewin May 7th, 2015 9:23 PM

I'm up for our little venonat to be known as scrambles, so A for the nickname

As for the next move....LETS HIT THE CORN FIELD!!#5

Hmm yes, why not? Voting for name is hard, as Scrambles, Bugger and Creepy all sound good, but my vote goes to Bugger.

I'm not thinking about giving the Pokémon a moveset limited to four moves. I'm not going to implement detailed battles anyway, as choosing a move every turn will make battles last very long and that's not very interesting. And even bad moves can be very useful in out-of-combat situations.

Guardian May 8th, 2015 9:07 AM

Alright, my full vote goes to Bugger then, dont nitpick lol

Lycanthropy May 8th, 2015 10:58 AM

The name poll ended in a draw. To determine the result a rolled a twenty-sided die. Odd for Scrambles, even for Bugger. D20 says 1; Scrambles it is.

5. Wait, that's no corn!
Location: Greenseed corn fields

The stories you've heard are true. Greenseed really looks like a typical farmer's town. To the right you see a herd of grazing Miltank, accompanied by a couple of Tauros. To your left you see an extensive plain of corn fields. As curious as you are, you want to see if there are some rare Pokémon hiding in the corn. You look around to see if nobody is watching and when you're sure the coast is clear, you push aside some plants and enter the field. Moving through the rows of corn, you don't detect something very useful, as you aren't really interested in starting a popcorn company at the moment.
When you decide to go back you notice Scrambles, a nickname for your Venonat you just came up with, intensively staring at something a little deeper in the field. When walking in that direction, you end up in an open space surrounded by the high corn plants, overgrown with a weird looking herb. You pick a small sample and put in in your bag.

What do you do?
  1. Walk back and act like nothing happened.
  2. Go to the Pokémon Center and ask if anybody has seen something like that before.
  3. Run! Run away from here as quickly as you can.

#1, you shouldn't tell anyone about special items, or it will be stolen!

Meadow May 8th, 2015 11:21 AM

Walk back and act like nothing happened.

I think this choice makes sense.

Sylphiel May 8th, 2015 11:35 AM

#1, don't see a need to act suspicious about it.

magicarp4thewin May 8th, 2015 12:16 PM

#1 really, who would care about a crazy story like that ;)

Guardian May 8th, 2015 1:08 PM

4Release the Venonat cos his nickname isnt as good as you thought it'd be >:L
Really though, why rush the names, you might want to give a little more time to people to vote. xD

Meh, pretty much all the same. I'll just blend in with the rest of the answers cos of lack of inspiration cos of the battle lost on the nickname frontier. 1 it is. :D

Aslan May 8th, 2015 2:38 PM

#3! You'll get exercise and look like Sonic the Hedgehog. GOTTA GO FAST

Percy May 8th, 2015 3:49 PM

#1!

DyingWillFlareon May 8th, 2015 6:53 PM

I would ask, but that's why I get attacked in games I think, so I'll stop being naiive and go with #3. Less smart than 1, but not as stupid as 2. XD

Etherion May 9th, 2015 4:43 AM

Going with...
Run! Run away from here as quickly as you can.

Squirrel May 9th, 2015 7:13 AM

YAY SCRAMBLES. I think I missed a day aw :( Today I'll vote for #4, give up and start a popcorn company #3 - run the heck away from there as fast as you can!!

6. Aroma Lady wants to battle
Location: Greenseed Town

You feel there's something strange about this place, you'd better not stay here for too long. You should find a way to analyze your sample. Leaving the cornfield brings you back within the town border. There are some people walking outdoors, but you're unsure if they noticed you sneaking around there.
Walking casually away, you hear running footsteps behind you followed by someone shouting: "Hey, you!"
When you turn around, you see a girl in a green dress halting in front of you. She says: "You look like a Pokémon trainer, let me test your skills!" She then uses a PokéBall to summon a Budew.

What do you do?
  1. "Scrambles, use Supersonic!"
  2. "Scrambles, use Leech Life!"
  3. "Scrambles, use Hyper Beam!"
  4. Use the hammer.
  5. Run away cowardly.

Next update expected in ~24h.

Meadow May 10th, 2015 10:58 AM

Before I vote, what exactly can the hammer do in this case? (Because it totally sounds fun LOL.)

Guardian May 10th, 2015 11:06 AM

I cant choose!

Use hummer! And end up in jail?
Oh I know, Use Supersonic, and see if she has a Venipede, then steal all of her Pokes! Oh wait, jail again :L
Lets be real though, if he had any of those attacks he'd use them before. As if he would hesitate using a Hyper beam while being carried by an unknown person in a bug net lmao.

Still, I'll go with 3. Use Hyper beam!

magicarp4thewin May 10th, 2015 1:30 PM

"Oh no, she's onto us!" #5 run like a chicken lol

Squirrel May 10th, 2015 2:46 PM

Percy May 10th, 2015 5:43 PM

#1!
Let's battle!

KittiOcelotti May 10th, 2015 8:54 PM

Hammer. *police car turns around the corner.* *runs away*

so.....
Number 5

Sylphiel May 10th, 2015 8:57 PM

#1, let's do this! She looked at me so there must be a battle of some kind!

Or so they claim, idk. BUT STILL let's try out the new pokemon. :D What is this concept of running away!

You'll use it pretty much in the way Squirrel describes:

Stop,Hammer Time

Ahhh I guess #3, since Hyper Beam sucks the least out of his moves and I unlike some people don't want to get caught while we have that weird herb. :P

Hyzenthlay May 11th, 2015 5:57 AM

Whaaat, who would smash a sweet little Budew with a hammer? Meanies.

#1! Because confusion is OP in PMD. :D

NoOneAtAll May 11th, 2015 9:30 AM

#2, because Budew can't hurt you (except for Absorb).

...I feel really, really bad, but... my vote goes to #4 - Use the hammer. xD

Not to hurt the poor little Budew, but for the holy sake of being able to play with a hammer at all. Eheheheheh...

Squirrel May 12th, 2015 5:49 AM

7. Being broke is so chapter 6
Location: Greenseed Town

"Okay Scrambles, show me what you've got. Use Supersonic." Scrambles executes your command by emitting a shrieking sound to his opponent. Although the Budew looks dizzy, it manages to enlarge its body size. That must be the move Growth, better end this quickly. "Use Leech Life!" Even when there isn't anything to heal, it should still do a nice amount of damage. The lady orders Budew to use Absorb and energy is from Scrambles is sapped and transferred to the bud Pokémon, but Scrambles doesn't really seem to care much. After another hit of Leech Life he seems fully energized again. "Use Stun Spore!" your opponent suggests, but Budew trips and slams its face pretty hard to the ground, out of energy to stand up again.
"Oh no, my Budew! Budew, come back!" she shouts and steps forward. "Good job, you defended well. Here, take this." She then hands a couple of coins to you which you gladly accept.

Where to look for next?
  1. MOAR TRAINERS!
  2. Some additional Pokémon for the team
  3. Someone that can analyze that herb
  4. The closest Gym Leader
  5. Pie

Next update expected in ~48h.

Guardian May 12th, 2015 1:04 PM

Didnt running cowardly had 5 votes? Or was it a typo?

Ah screw this, since I am the only one wanting a new Pokemon I'll just go with the second one I would do. 5. Eat a freakin pie, because food doesnt need a reason lmao.

Squirrel May 12th, 2015 1:36 PM

#2, I want a new Pokémon!!!

Guardian May 12th, 2015 1:56 PM

8. Beach party
Location: Lake Carolina

This was actually some easy money. But can Scrambles handle everything alone? According to the type advantage scheme you had to study in school, Venonat should be weak against fire, flying, rock and psychic. A good addition would be finding a water Pokémon that can take out fire and rock enemies.
"On to the beach then!" you shout while leaving the town. A lot of bird Pokémon fly around above the grasslands, but there doesn't seem an option to get them closer and letting them all attack Scrambles would be the worst idea to do now. Moving along, the color of the path slightly changes to a lighter hue of brown. When you take a turn to the right, you can see it in front of you: Lake Carolina!

What do you do?
  1. Run into the water.
  2. Enjoy the sun's heat.
  3. Talk to a random fisherman.
  4. Build a sand castle.
Next update expected in ~24h.

NoOneAtAll May 14th, 2015 10:54 AM

#4 would be fun, but getting a fishing rod would be practical, so I'll go with #3.

WOAH WOAH WOAH.

WOAH. I'll ignore this!

lol

Wait, so we went to school? So we didnt only ditch family without letting them know, but school as well. lmao.

Now, Run into the water and catch a Gyarados with a lucky Pokeball!
Legit, nah?

Squirrel May 14th, 2015 11:09 AM

#4, build a sand castle! Hopefully we can find a cute Dwebble or something :D

Sylphiel May 14th, 2015 11:15 AM

#3, perhaps the random fisherman will help me figure out how to catch a water pokemon.

... :'D I hope!

Percy May 14th, 2015 3:42 PM

#3!
Maybe he'll give me an Old/Good/Super Rod.

Etherion May 15th, 2015 3:51 AM

Run into the water.

Squirrel May 15th, 2015 7:28 AM

You guys are really underestimating the power of sandcastle building - what if some cute Sandshrew or Dwebble comes out of the sand and we make a new best friend? :(

Guardian May 15th, 2015 8:43 AM

Sandshrew on a beach...near water? Isnt that kinda suicidal?...Oh wait, we're talking about our Sandshrew, nothing unusual I guess :D

9. That's how RPGs work
Location: Lake Carolina

Clueless about how to lure a Pokémon within your reach, you start a talk with a random fisherman. He is very helpful and immediately donates one of his fishing rods to the person he just met. You attach some bait to the rod throw the hook into the waves. It takes a while before you get a bite, but as soon as it occurs, you reel in and put the caught Remoraid in your bucket filled with water. You lift the bucket and move it to a save distance from the water preventing Remoraid to jump back in. As feeding the Pokémon a piece of sandwich helped to befriend Venonat, you try the same with Remoraid, but this one keeps staring at you creepily.

What do you do?
  1. Battle the Remoraid with Scrambles.
  2. Look for a trainer to battle with Remoraid.
  3. Feed Remoraid the unknown herb.
  4. Take a swim with Remoraid.
Also, you 'captured' a Pokémon again. Name suggestions are welcome.
