YES! MTG IS THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm glad there's an MTG club now, I saw that there was one for Yu-Gi-Oh!, but was disappointed that MTG didn't have one. Username: mariomaniac432 Favourite Colour: Green Favourite Deck: EDH: Prime Speaker, Zegana Mode of Play: Paper I'm strictly a EDH/Commander player these days. I used to play standard, but quickly got annoyed by having to always buy new cards that almost never hold value just so I could play. I did however win the first standard tournament I entered with a R/G Aggro deck shortly after the release of Avacyn Restored, and won the tournament two weeks after that with American Control. Those were my only two serious decks though, and everything else I made was usually some kind of gimmicky deck that I just wanted to try and see how it help up, and after I won with them I never used them again in tournaments. I didn't like the slower pace that came with the Return to Ravnica block (though I must admit I enjoyed Bant Midrange during this time and won once using it), so shorty after Gatecrash came out, I stopped, and switched to exclusively EDH. I had intended to start again when Khans came out, but decided it was too costly, and that EDH was more fun. All of my EDH decks can be found here: http://tappedout.net/users/mariomaniac432/mtg-deck-folders/ Most of them haven't been updated since before KTK came out, and none of them have been updated since the new EDH tuck rule was made, so they're a little out of date. Also, some of the descriptions I just threw together since I had all my decks marked as private so I wouldn't have to put one in. My first EDH deck was Skullbriar, the Walking Grave, but it made me a target right off the bat because I could kill someone too quick (I think it was a guaranteed turn 6 or 7 kill against someone if they never bocked him), and the decks I was up against at the time didn't have much of a board presence (creature-wise) until usually turn 4 or 5, but by then, being black, I had removal spells. So I dismantled it, and struggled to come up with something else. But one day I was looking at all the cards laying out on my desk, and I saw Jin-Gitaxias, as well as several good artifacts. So I threw one together, not really sure if it would work or not, and it has been one of the more powerful decks in my playgroup ever since, and has needed little change in order to keep up. When Gatecrash came out, I made Prime Speaker Zegana, which is also one of the powerhouse decks in my group, but has gone through several renditions in order to keep up. Aside from them, Azusa, Lost but Seeking is my other powerhouse deck. If it gets going, it's really hard to stop. I just checked out the spoilers for Modern Masters 2 a few hours ago. Looks good so far, but it doesn't really matter to me since prices of many cards didn't go down (and stay down) after the first Modern Masters set, and because I don't play Modern. The only deck I was willing to pay in Modern was Birthing Pod (I had it before it was cool...), but it got the banhammer, so I have no interest in it now. |

Mode of Play: EDH Paper I was running Kresh for the longest time, but I haven't updated it in a few months and then before that when I first got into MTG I was running a mix of zombies and vampires with Thraximundar as my general, but switched it out for Nekuzar for a couple of weeks. I'm getting ready to put my wip Damia up but I just haven't found the time. |
Welcome everyone! I'm so excited that EDH seems to be pretty popular round here too :p

Like Mario and Sonata I only really play EDH, haven't gotten round to putting all my decks up on TappedOut yet but so far I have Niv-Mizzet draw, Phenax mill/unblockable, Kiku/Sidisi mono black control,Teysa Tokens, Olivia Voldaren tribal vamps, Thelon tribal fungus/saprolings, Slivers.dec and I'm in the middle of building a Tasigur deck which I plan on actually spending a decent amount of time/money on instead of just building it and then ignoring it for five thousand years. Also the last combo listed of your Kresh deck looks glorious I need to see it played haha |
What's the best combo for a deck destructive deck?
I try using kill your creature thing and I didn't go so well though |
It really depends on the type of deck you want to build. Do you want an EDH deck? do you want a casual 60 card deck? do you want a modern "money is no barrier" tournament deck?
Either way though the colours you say are your favourite are some of the best at destruction. Black is easily the best at creature control, having cards like Murder, Doom Blade, Hero's Downfall and other cards like it that can kill a create for a small amount of mana. Be careful though because black is fond of its brothers so will often struggle killing other black creatures. You can even get creatures that you can use to kill your opponents things, such as Avatar of Woe and Shriekmaw. Green doesn't do destruction often, but when it does it does it well. Green loves its creatures though so you'll often find it can blow up anything that isn't alive and kicking. Some examples are Terastodon, Bramblecrush, Destructor Dragon, Mold Shambler. But there's the amazingly good Beast Within, which can destroy any permanent for the small price of giving the opponent a 3/3 green beast (which you can kill with a black spell later on ;D) Red is just happy to smash and burn things. Nowadays red is best at killing artifacts and burning little creatures to dust. Back in the day though red got a couple of good destruction spells, such as getting rid of nonbasic lands (which all the high tier decks play btw, and pretty much all multicoloured decks) such as Incendiary Command and Ruination. There is also the odd mass destruction spell, such as Decree of Annihilation, Obliterate and Jokulhaups. If you meant infinate combos though there's a pretty nifty thread here that has a list of a lot of infinate combos for each colour/colour combination. It's pretty out of date though. Also btw, you may want to get this. It'll scan pages you visit (including this post) and show you each card I've listed as a hover over thingy. |

Hmm. Online deck for MAGE exactly. It basically black mixed with colorless and my main key would be Extractor Demon
|
Have you thought about focussing on sacrificing your own creatures to mill your opponents instead? Stuff like Reassembling Skeleton you can sacrifice multiple times a turn if you have the mana.
|
Yes, I tried that and resurrecting cards like above is the key, but what's other good cards to keep opponents at bay from targetting resurrectors.

Niv-Mizzet was the first EDH deck that was made by my playgroup. I will forever hate it because it's infinite combo and set the standard for how powerful all subsequent decks needed to be to keep up. How well does Olivia play? Can it compete with some of the more powerful aggro and control decks? I threw one together about two years ago, but at the time I didn't have the cards to make it work well, and I didn't feel like getting them. I'm still interested in using her as a BR commander, and I was thinking of making a variant where I steal everyone's stuff all game, but I'm not sure if she's powerful enough for my group. |
Niv mizzle was my first commander too, its changed so much since then though as it's been a melek deck since then too haha. It's in need of a lot of maintenance though because its become a mishmash of "oh that's a cool card" that I find.
Olivia is a better deck than I expected if I'm honest. She is solely tribal and spot control so that the vampires can get through. It works pretty well against other aggro decks because I can kill of their biggest threat and then fly over with a couple of vampires. Control is another story, most of my good vamps get countered but if I can somehow get Olivia down and attatch some grieves or boots to her then I can switch to a pretty decent voltron style with her first ability. Why not try and build a primal surge deck? You could try and find as many creatures that'll do what your instant and sorceries do and there are loads of ways to give them flash. That way you can put in Labratory Maniac and then when you play PS you can flip your deck and win on your next draw step.
|
Joining since I used to play casually quite a bit (and actually went to a Regionals once with a Bant deck in the Alara block and got smoked, going 0-6 on the day) and still occasionally play, even though I haven't bothered adding any cards to my collection in 3 or 4 years. I may be able to advise on some casual play strategies, but not too many as I'm not intensely into the game anymore.
Username: donavannj Favourite Colour: Don't Have One Favourite Deck: Currently, my casual burn deck. I think it's just straight red, though it might have some black in it. I kinda haven't touched it in 6 months. So, aside from Lightning Bolt, my memories of its contents are hazy. Mode of Play: Paper @Yeyinde: The most consistent way to destroy your opponent's deck is by milling (specifically using card effects to force your opponent to discard cards straight from their deck - best color for that is typically Blue) them into a deck-out. Using blue milling cards also aides in that you can use Blue mana for the sea of control cards available in Blue to further lock them down. Now if you're talking about trying to keep the field clear and bring their Life total down, you'd be best served looking at a Red/Black deck that uses "burn" type cards, specifically ones that give you a choice between destroying a creature and target your opponent's life. Not sure what format you're playing, though, so specific card recommendations beyond that I cannot give at the moment. I think the last prerelease I went to was M11. |
By the time that I would get maniac out it would just be like rubbing salt in the wound. Several other cards I have give me an instant win by the end of my turn or beginning of my next. The only thing that would stop me is if someone else got win before it got back around to me.
|
I suppose I could add blue milling cards with my current one, there's probably tons of options to choose from

Maybe we can duel using Xmage :)
|
If you can teach me how to use it sure!
|
It's just clicking and choosing choice if there's multiple effect.
and sure I can teach you how to use it later on |
That's a pretty good idea actually, would people be interested in playing online?
If so what would people prefer playing with? So far I'm only aware of Cockatrice and XMage that are free but feel free to share some others if you know them! |
I remember the simulator online that is MTG one, but I forget. I always use xmage due to it's graphics and it sometimes hiccups. Other than that, there's a site to play TGC like this one, but I just recommend download xmage or any other stimulators

Has anyone here ever used Puca Trade before? If so, what is your opinion on it? For those of you who don't know, Puca Trade is a website that allows players to trade with people from anywhere via mail. I'm not 100% certain, but from what I understand it works like this. You have "money" associated with your account, you get some for free when you make an account, I believe. You can use this money to "buy" cards from other people, who then send you the card in the mail. Whatever you spent on the card is then added to their account, and that person can in turn buy cards from other people, repeating the cycle. In other words, it's one-way trading in exchange for points to do another one-way trade.
A few friends have told me I should try it, but I'm skeptical. Most of the cards I have that I'm willing to get rid of are just junk and bulk rares. And at this point, anything I need is usually either something from the latest set and thus always in stock at my local card shop, or it's something really old and worth a lot of money (Mana Drain, Dual Lands, etc.), and I doubt I'd get anything like that from Puca Trade. Plus, those shop owner is usually able to get me whatever I need, and quickly too. And unlike my friends who are telling me to try it, I can actually afford anything I need (Well, almost anything. I'm looking at you, The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale >_>), so I'm not sure it's really worth it for me, anyway. |
I did pull out a Drain Chain that makes double loop and with gooning reflection and bond would makes twice as deadly :P

I've used puca trade before, it was a pretty decent experience from what I remember. It took a while for the other person to register them as arrived (had to message them, apparently they forgot about it) but other than that it's been pretty good.
Only downside I've ever had though was someone sent me an italian Teysa v1, then had a go at me for not stating I only accept English cards (it says so in the T&C that it's english cards only). Quote:

New discussion time! :D
When did you first start playing? What was your first plane? I first started playing just after M13 came out, I went out and bought a starter kit when people at my uni tabletop society persuaded me to build a deck and from there on I was hooked! I pulled an Olivia Voldaren in my first pack out of it so I guess my first plane I really visited was Innistrad. I went on to build a really crappy B/r vampire deck, which has now been transfered to a B/r vampire tribal commander deck, headed by my wonderful Olivia <3 |
Started playing at about the time of the release for Fate Reforged. My friend let me play with his sliver deck and then a BRU Zombie Vampire deck that literally did nothing. Nobody uses creature decks in EDH. I ended up buying my first planeswalker. I still haven't managed to pack one even though I've gone through about $200 worth of cards. Pretty sad. But anyways, first walker I got was either Tibalt or Domri Rade. But I'm leaning towards Tibalt since everyone had Tibalt.
|
I remember the first planeswalker I pulled, it was Gideon Jura and I was so confused by the card I had to Google what the hell it was. I just slammed it into an old white weenie deck and forgot about it until last Christmas when I found it again and realised it was foil :D

Username: Ullion Favourite Colour: Blue and Red Favourite Deck: Probably my Red/blue passive aggressive deck Mode of Play: Paper mostly, I do have cockatrice but I try to avoid it I started a little over a year ago when Born of the Gods was first released and my friends held a drafting tournament for it, so I started then. I loved it so much, I kept buying lots of boxes and coming up with my own ideas for decks. (Seriously, I have too many ;-;) edit: I play modern, because my friends and I have such a wide variety of cards from different sets, so standard would limit us too much. At the sametime, I did make 2 standard decks - one is a jeskai deck that is really fun to play! |

I wonder how many lands should I put in a deck? I always put 18 land cards and other a bunkly big.
|
It honestly depends on the deck itself. If you have mostly low mana cost spells you could probably afford having about 15/16, if you desperately need to make sure you curve out properly maybe 19/20, and if you have a crap-ton of ramp in it maybe thin it out a little bit to so its around 16.
The way I do it is just take an educated guess and then playtest/refine it. Anybody else do it a different way? |
I mostly play using high mana cost spells and very least likely using artfiact creatures, but 18 will do just fine and running tri-color deck isn't easy as it looks.
|
When I make a new deck, I'll try to have 19-22 lands (depending on how my mana curve looks), then playtest and adjust from there. If I run a multicoloured deck, then I count the mana-specific symbols (could say devotion i guess) to find the proportions of colours, then recreate that proportion of colour in my lands as well. My lowest land count is my mono-green mana ramp deck, which I left at 18 I think. When I run tri-colours, I think I do 21/22 lands, just because balancing 3 colours is more difficult and less consistent.
|
Maybe I just put forest and green ecnhament that makes any land to any color it possibly help me on tri-colored deck
|
What three colours are you aiming for? Do you have specific cards in your deck that actually require all 3 colours at once?
If you don't have use/have cards that require all 3 types of mana, then cut one of the colours off and stick with 2 - it isn't worth going for 3 different mana types if all your cards require 2 types or less. I tried making a G/B/U tri-colour deck before owning any cards that had all 3 of those colours, and the deck was just too inconsistent and unreliable. Now, you can go ahead and try it, but if you're having too much trouble - ditch one colour and replace them with valuable cards for whatever strategy you're running. ^^ |
Blue, Black and White.
I might try to add a land that needs just 1 basic land that produce 2 colors like say I just add swamp, then the land needs swamp to be tapped and have Blue/White |
Maybe this site could help you out Yveltal.
http://manabasecrafter.com/ It's mainly made for commander, but all you need to do is click on the colours you want. Click on any card that shows up and it'll give you every single mana producing card that can make your colours. For example this Chromium guy has White Blue and Black in him so his page will show every single land that can produce one or more of those colours. |
Some tri color cards I choose is good, but some have bit of risky upkeep
|
I don't know how many of you guys have been keeping up with Modern Masters 2015 but there have been a lot of complaints such as this one.
What do you guys think of the whole situation? Do you think WotC could've lowered the MSRP, do you think they were wrong to have tried out the new packaging on such an expensive set? |
Aside from very expensive price for a booster pack; the Modern Master isn't your typical boosters as the video told the viewers finding the rares or mythic is like playing a slot machine in the casino and even the price for the booster is 10 bucks; damaged cards that aren't pack fresh it's more like drafting instead of constructing a great modern deck and the cards inside price tag are vary like finding $3 or more for uncommon and the possibility finding a rare/mythic in a single box, not in a single booster. Why Wizard! Why you become such a greedy company..
|
I'm not particularly happy about it - I wish they would have chosen one way or the other (make it expensive, but keep it at 36 packs or same price but only 24 packs, NOT BOTH). Unfortuantely, I really doubt I'd buy it unless my friend wants to split a box with me, so we'll both end up paying ~$125 each and getting 12 packs...
...wow that still sucks. I don't know what I'll do. t-t Some of those cards look awesome, mind you none of them were cards I would have wanted before having seen them being re-released. Also, as far as I can tell, it's Hasbro making the call on pricing - so it might be them being the greedy ones, and not WotC. Also, why changing packaging, I liked how they were before, also less damaged too >.> |

Username: Bidoof FTW Favourite Colour: Black (B) Favourite Deck: My favorite is my first: W/B Extort :) It isn't playable in standard anymore but I played it after Dragon's Maze came out and I loved it. Mode of Play: Online. I have Dotp 13 for Steam and 360, 14 and 15 for 360. When did you first start playing? I first started playing when Dragon's Maze came out, my dad was working at a card shop doing some eBay listing or something like that, and I thought the prerelease looked so cool (it was ;)) and my dad decided to sit me down and teach me, I've loved it since. What was your first plane? Ravnica. It's definitely one of my favorites, the guilds are just so unique and they're so interesting. Someday I should read the lore books about ravnica and the guilds :) Also I guess Innistrad also counts for my first, I didn't get to play too much with the cards but I love the theme of it. Also are you going to talk about the new Magic DotP coming out? There is a discussion with information here and I'm so so so so SO excited ^^ |
Cardboard looks pretty. As they said, to what end is it worth buying? I mean, I could go to the local card shop or look on craigslist and buy boxes of 1000 for $10 or $15. Sure they might not all be great, but the chances of getting something worth the money out of those 1000 cards is much greater than that of pulling anything decent out of MM. It's much better to just buy singles since you're sure to get what you want and you won't have to spend an arm and a leg.
|
I went to go visit my friend last week, we bought a couple of MM packs each and left it at that.
I pulled a foil Mox Opal. <3 |
I think I play using too much enchament going and few soccrries or instant

So I need some help, I'm trying to construct a new deck (maybe separate the idea into 2 decks) and I'm not sure how to go about it from where I am and what cards I have. Firstly, my colours of choice are White, Green and Blue. For the type of cards I'm using, I was originally going to try and make a full-out Morph/Manifest/MegaMorph deck out the 3 colours and proceed to use other enchantments/auras to beef them up (ie. lightform and cloudform and battle mastery). But here is where I'm finding my issue, if I get manifest, the cards I'm getting on the field are random and may make the game harder for myself (such as having a manifested enchantment!) so I'd need a lot of creatures. But I also want some form of removal. But then I'm spreading myself thin and I'm not too sure the deck would even hit a strong timing or whatever. Another option is to do a strictly MMM (morph/manifest/megamorph) deck in G/U only and do the enchantment deck for the Bant colours. If I do that though, then there are some cards that I have and really want to use but can't (Mastery of the Unseen, Lightform). I'm gunna go tinker around some more and see what I can do though! I think my main aim for my current attempt is to focus more on bant MMM rather than enchantments. x.x |

Favourite Colour: Green Favourite Deck: My Black/Green Scavenge Mode of Play: Paper (there's online?) I'm a very casual player, so I won't be talking huge strategies or anything like that, but I've been looking to get more into the game for quite a while now (especially since there's a card shop within walking distance of my apartment), and thought this would be a good starting point! I don't know the specific name of the game mode, but I almost exclusively play where any card is allowed except for the really old ones. Help me out? Haha Anyway, my main deck is a Black/Green scavenge/+1 +1 counter. It has four Corpsejacks to help me stack up, and I have a few win conditions with Crowned Ceratok, Sun Bringer's Touch, Death's Presence, and Champion of Lambholt in addition to just getting too powerful to take down. I really like the deck, but its early game is absolutely horrendous, and I often lose before I can get to that late game where I excel. But enough about me. I hope I can chat with you guys, but I must admit, I'm getting lost with all of the advanced talk here, haha. |
Omg a Golgari player. I had nightmares being a Dimir agent against my Golgari-aligned friend.

Quote:
One of my favourites being: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=394687 Its an early game card for you to use, works very well with counters because of it's on-death effect! :) Also, the mode you're talking about (almost all cards so long as theyre not old) is modern-casualish? Modern covers like... every set back to 8th edition (a long time ago) with a list of about 20 cards that are considered banned xP |
What's a good balanced deck these days?
|
Balanced in what sense? Balanced as in not OP/imbalanced? Or as in a mix of aggressive and defensive playstyle? Or any other kind of contrasting concepts?
This is a shot in the dark without knowing full well what you mean - but I think U/G could likely be considered the most consistent 2-colour combination (green's mana boosting, and blue's card drawing), while being able to get fairly large creatures with your green side to stay safe on the ground - and have flyers/unblockables with blue. ^_^ |

You should really build this deck you could be onto something really powerful! |

That card looks really good, so I'll definitely have to keep an eye out for it. Most of my cards are have a mana cost three or four, with my highest being seven on one. It's not that my early game is complete garbage, as I can get a good number of creatures out, but other people seem to rely on it a lot more, and pull off some combos before I have my first Corpsejack out. Quote:
Now if I can only find a way to counter my friend's artifact deck with Darksteel Forge and Stuffy Doll... |
Quote:
Also, what Lilianna mentioned earlier about looking into the Simic cards (Green/blue) from old and new ravnica could be beneficial since they both work off counters as well! :) And thanks Lili! I put a 60 card deck together, and I'm defintely going for modern and not standard because I traded for 2x Seaside citadels and want to use them >.< But you gave me high hopes for my deck, thank you! I pulled a XBU counter spell (if they cant pay X themselves) and you gain X life. :D I also pulled an Azorius Guildmage, which let's met pay 3 mana to counter an active ability (so long as it isn't a mana ability) which I think is super handy! |
So many options to choose from?
|
That's the beauty of it!
|
I remember it was mentioned earlier about finding a way we could play together online (cockatrice and xmage) but the new Duels of the Planeswalkers game will be free and accessible on steam :) it won't have all of the cards out there but it would be fun to play with you guys when it comes out~ ^^

Although if they released a good paid DLC every so often I would probably pay for it. The game itself could probably be sold as $15 right away so why not pay for some good DLC every now and then since we're getting the game for free? |
The new Dotp will be free on steam? Nice! M15 was such a let down :(
I still play M14 on steam every once and a while, if anyone has it? 2-headed giant is so fun! Also U/B mill? My friends hate that stlye so much, so I never get to use mine :*( Quote:

Favourite Colour: Red/White Favourite Deck: Heroes V. Monsters, Modified Heroes weenie deck Mode of Play: Paper Im a casual player so i dont know all the the big talk and strats but i hope we can discuss Magic together. :D As for my deck it does well against all the other decks i have and only seems to be stopped by bad pulls. Its main feature is boosting up small things to be terrifying. Anax and Cymede and this other Paladin guy really help. Heroic is what it is all about (adding abilites by meeting a certain quota) and enchantments like Daily Regimen and some useful boosting cards for defense and offense Also i would really enjoy playing online with some of you guys cause i dont really have anyone to play with and i dont think i would be good at tournements and other competitive meetups. |
Heroic is so dope! :D It's a shame you didn't have a friend to play the monsters deck from the dual deck pack you got. Apparently when they make them, the two decks are equal and balance each other well for fun games. I'm yet to try them myself. :(
It'd be cool if we could use some internet medium (a steam version of DotP or cockatrice or xmage) to play some games together! ^^ |
Well i did play the duel with somone but Heroes seemed to win everytime but he also got bad pulls so idk
Another deck i really like is an evolve simic deck and i guess i really just like making huge dudes that are very hard to counter without removal However that is the only reason i like green otherwise i really dont like getting pounded on while waiting to get something big on the field I started just when i was 13 Playing with my dad for the first time with a burn deck vs control deck from a duel pack with Jace and another planeswalker i cant remember the name of We later Modified that deck to have 1 red 2/3 that got two +1 +1 counters everytime a spell was sacrified to it instead of being cast and with a burn deck it got very big very quickly |

oh! I think I know what card you're talking about. *goes to google quickly* http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=290526 This guy? He's frustrating to play against >( |

You just gave me an idea hm maybe a hexproof deck (Or something of the sort) to protect against removal and abilities That might work well if i can balance Boosting creatures up and Hexproof Or Counterspells like a blue/white deck Any thoughts? |
You could use hexproof illusions with Adaptive Automaton, Lord of the Unreal, Phantasmal Image, Phyrexian Metamorph, Krovikan Mist, and other Illusion creatures or even Shapeshifters since they count as Illusions :)
There's a deck like this in the 2014 edition of Duels of the Planeswalkers, it's called Mind Maze. The whole hexproof and illusion tribal deck is a really cool idea and I loved playing it. The key to making this deck though is 4 copies of Lord of the Unreal, the rest is just filler to make the deck stronger. I also probably wouldn't netdeck Mind Maze, it's a great concept and some of the cards in the list are good, but others really aren't worth using. EDIT: this is just the one hexproof-oriented deck I know of, there might be more out there if this doesn't fit your style or liking. |
I totally agree with BidoofFTW, I have a deck like this IRL with 2x Lord of the Unreal (unfortunately couldn't find any more). But Hexproof is... difficult to find and incorporate in a deck as a style. It can definitely be used, but I don't think as a theme but rather as a value trick to have in your deck.
For example something cheap with flexibility: http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=253636 It's blue, too, so it can definitely be apart of a Simic deck too! :) Just take note, hexproof does not stop everything! :) |

That's a sick deck! I don't have anywhere near that amount of cards like that. Honestly I don't think I'd remove any of the cards you have in their for Mizzium Skin (you have simic charm for the same effect, basically same mana cost AND more options).
Although I am sad to not see any cloudfin raptors. ;) I don't know if you have any of these, but this is great to have as land in an evolve deck: http://i.tcgplayer.com/14924.jpg |

I wanted to do that to make a kind of dream deck that maybe I could get in the future |
I wish I can play commander without a commander deck in Mage. :(
|
I stink at commander. All I have is Varolz, and I have yet to win a game with it. I don't play commander often, and built my deck in a half hour with no major tweaks since then, so you can probably see how much stock I put in those games. For some reason though, all my friends are obsessed with that game mode and I can't see why.

Commander is a bit too complicated for my liking and i like being able to just casually play anything without being pressured to do a (IMO) too-specific ruleset for anything
Maybe thats just because i like things simple but hey thats just my theory A Magic Theory |

@Blue Yveltal + Nolafus If you're unsure about how to build a commander deck (or are lacking a commander), you can always buy an "intro" commander pack and try that out! :) Also, I think the intro packs for Dragon's Maze has a legendary 2-colour creature (Varolz being one), so you can always use those as a starting block as well! @draskk one of my friends bought singles to make his Simic evolve deck. It was strong and super hard to contend with (I won maybe a third of the matches?) and most notably: it was consistent. |

Some of the cards buffed my other decks pretty well, at least. |

Some cards that come out in commander are pretty darn sweet (Sol ring best ring) without a doubt. Sadly with the format my friends mostly play with (modern), some of these awesome commander cards aren't allowed. |
For those of you that do play EDH/Commander, I finally went about putting what I'm currently running up on tappedout if anyone wants to take a look and give some feedback. I still have a few things to remove and change around, but for the most part it's good. I really need to get a sol ring. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/10-06-15-the-works/

Ensnaring bridge -> if you're running combos to get some creatures with really high power/toughness I think this card might be bad since it'll hold yourself back? Unless you're worried about your opponent(s) having even higher power creatures than you and you want to stay defensive.
Bottled Cloister -> If I understand correctly, this artifact stops yourself from playing instants on your opponents turn for the trade off that they can't see your hand or make you discard (etc.) on your own turn, yes? This is a cool card, but really weird o.o" Personally I think I'd put it in a sidedeck and wait for someone who uses black and blue? Ghoulcaller's Bell-> I'm stoked someone else uses this card too! I think it's awesome! I'm confused as to why you have a Rugged Highlands (tap for red or green mana) in a commander deck that can't have red o.o' There are a couple of other cards that caught my eye and I wasn't sure how they'd run. But I feel like I'd have to see them in action to see how good they are. :) Perchance do you have a Kruphix, God of Horizons? edit: Oh, also. I may be completely wrong on everything I said otherwise, since I really haven't played commander. But these were things that just caught my attention and thought some worked against you in a way (ensnaring bridge). x.x' |
Is Griselbrand illegal on commander deck? It's just paying 7 life to draw same amount as paid life would or maybe mischievous milling tactics with blue.
I wish commander games are just like casual, no commander and have multiple copies of cards. |

Constructing commander deck variant is bit harder for me, it just can't do this or too many cards

If you ever wonder what cards are banned for whichever format, check this link out: http://magic.wizards.com/en/gameinfo/gameplay/formats/bannedrestricted Googling for other specifics is also a very good idea! :) |
