Changing physical type to special
 
Hello,


Is there any way I can simply change a physical type into a special type? (Not talking about physical/special split!)
For example: Every dark type move is special, and I'd like to make them physical instead.
What bytes would I need to change in a hex editor? (If it's that simple, that is)
I am using JPAN's hacked engine, btw.

I don't know if there's a simple way to do what you want. I don't think so.

You can alternatively apply the P/S split, then change every move to what you want (every dark move being physical in your case).

And after thinking about it, change dark types from special to physical would requires to edit many abilities/items/other. So, applying the patch is by far the best solution IMO.

What do you mean by editing items and abilities? Which items/abilities affect dark type moves, specifically if it's special or not?
And I'd rather not go for the P/S split, because I've heard it can mess up the battle system pretty bad

It was true few years ago, but now there's a perfectly working PS split, bug free and all. Check out the signature of Doesntknowhowtoplay, a member of pokecommunity, there's a link for the split he made. Here : http://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=7465618&postcount=163

After applying the split, you'll have to open your ROM with a move editor (I recommand G3T btw here : http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=311461) and edit the 11th byte of every damagin-moves.
You'll see in G3T a part that says "physical" because the byte 0 means physical after applying the patch, and every single move have that byte set to 0 by default.
So, change it to whatever you want : physical/special/statut. Higher value are useless.

Also, look at the Research & Developement section, it should has a thread about PS split in. You'll find another routine that allows you to display the good icon (physical/special/statut) if you want, it's optional. Here : http://www.pokecommunity.com/showthread.php?t=234550&page=11

Can I apply this to JPAN's hacked engine without anything breaking in it?

Thank you, the move editor looks great. Been using a different, older one, but this seems like it has more features.

Not that important, as I'm just making a hack for my friends and me to play.

Oh, and will Hidden power always be special after applying the patch?

Sadly/Fortunatly yes. It'll be physical or special accordingly to your setting

Nothing sad about that, since I want it to be. Is there a way to set it to be at 60 BP always? I assume damage is calculated by IVs, so setting a damage won't have any effect

You should check out the "quick reasearch and developement thread" and "move resource thread", there's tons of useful stuff you may like, including the 60 BP hidden power. Those threads are in Research & Development section.
