Been awhile since I read for the entertainment now I read stuff to learn about/study/how-to/astrology/life/etc is still fun though :)
One book I am currently reading is Star Wars Tarkin by James Luceno
Currently reading The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker.
Also, I strongly recommend Thr3e (also by Ted Dekker) if you enjoy thriller novels like I do. Awesome plot twists. Probably my all-time favorite book. |
Reading through Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card. I got through Ender's Shadow while I was on vacation, and moved right on to the next book in the series.
Also reading The Thirteen Hallows by Michael Scott and Colette Freedman. It's some bargain book that I picked up because the cover is interesting. The basic plot is also interesting, if you can get past the bad word choices and long paragraphs of unnecessary description. |
Waiting 4 more days to continue Attack on titan!
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I decided to read the books because of one of the movies having giant spiders. This triggers my severe arachnophobia bad. :c I feel like if I just read the books, then it wouldn't be so bad actually watching it. Just as long as I'm not actually seeing the spiders.
Quote:
But yeah, the spiders are horrible..... I am nearing the end of Fool's Assassin by Robin Hobb - I always enjoy reading her writing, and the characters and stories are brilliant :) |
Currently going through Nightwise by R. S. Belcher. Seems like Dresden Files but with more nitty-gritty edginess and nihilism.
I've told myself for years I'd read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and I've finally picked it up..
Started reading Shadow Puppets by Orson Scott Card, which for some reason I really remember enjoying. Which is strange, because it's really the start of Card being Card.
Also am in the middle of Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis. It's the first book in the YA series, Dragons In Our Midst. It's actually pretty good, and I'm enjoying it. I have the next three books in the series to read through. |
Fifty Shades Freed by E.L. James. Totally not reading it for the extended sex.
Does this thread include comics? I'm currently reading through Frank Miller's initial run on Daredevil. Excellent, fun stuff.
so I started Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami last night; I'm only about 50 pages in but so far it's absolutely fucking wonderful. I love the moods Murakami mines in general so I was expecting to get into this but it's appealing to every one of my aesthetic sensibilities -- being lovelorn, having nowhere to call home, drifting, the supernatural / surreal, etc. it's brilliant.
also picked up a Cummings anthology yesterday that I've been reading a few poems from every now and again. love the guy but I already knew that. my favorite poet, probably. |
The Book of Face :P
My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
I get tired of books after I haven't read them in a while. Like, they sort of lose my interest. So, I have to find new ones to read. Then, I go back to the other ones when I'm ready to read them again. The point is, that I never finish books just as much as I never finish writing stories. |
Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman
Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders by Neil Gaiman.
I gave up on reading My Sister's Keeper. I couldn't really get into it. However, I'm doing my best to finish the Warriors series though. I'm currently almost done reading Fire and Ice by Erin Hunter. After that, I'll read Forest of Secrets. :3
Finished Raising Dragons and started the next book in the Dragons In Our Midst series: The Candlestone by Bryan Davis. The series is really interesting because it ties in legends about King Arthur, and I've been wanting to learn more about those for years. Plus Davis is really good at ending chapters on cliffhangers and moving on to another part of the story, so I keep reading to find out what happens.
Edgar Allan Poe's The Pit and the Pendulum
Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik (dragons!)
English teacher just assigned Macbeth. Insane book.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Finished Shadow Puppets and moved on to Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card. This one isn't all political, so I'm finding it easier to read. Except for when I get to a part that I have to stop and think about how I could write an essay about it.
Glorious Angels by Justina Robson.
I got Return to The Isle of The Lost by Melissa De La Cruz, so now I'm reading the first book called Isle of The Lost by her as well. I haven't read it/finished it yet, but when I do... I'll read the sequel too. :P
For anyone wondering, it's based on the Descendants movie from Disney Channel. At first, I was against the movie... but when I watched it, I loved it. Mostly, because it had Dove Cameron. ^^ There's supposed to be a sequel to it coming up too, and it's already been confirmed by her and other sources. |
Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik. The Napoleonic war with dragons.
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. I liked The Color of Magic and the Sandman series, so decided to give it a shot. Definitely not disappointed. Terry Pratchett is turning out to be one of the only authors besides Douglas Adams who has managed to actually make me laugh out loud.
Ready Player One
Not very far into it so I'll have to see where it goes, but so far it doesn't really grab me which is a little bit disappointing because I was assured it was a good book. |
Moved on to Circles of Seven by Bryan Davis. I'm beginning to notice more of the faults in Davis's writing, but I'll commit myself to finish the series.
Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
The Death Cure - James Dashner. I haven't read this series in a while but I can remember the other books being a lot more interesting. There's not really that much going on I guess.
I'm currently reading Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I'm really enjoying it, plus my grandmother told me there's a movie to it.
I am rereading The Virgin Suicides at the moment. It's a really great, accessible novel. Roughly equal parts melancholy, humour and mystery wrapped in a vessel of adolescence.
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Started it a few days ago, really enjoying it so far.
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson. Gotta learn from the master of fantasy world building.
Shadows in Flight by Orson Scott Card: I remember that this book is on the bad side of Card's writing, but now that I'm actually reading it... https://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-froggonk.gif
The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. It's my summer book.
The Elfstones of Shannara, by Terry Brooks. I need to purge The Shannara Chronicles TV series from my brain and remind myself that the literature is actually good.
Quote:
As for what I'm currently reading, it's Tears of a Dragon by Bryan Davis. It's the last book in the Dragons In Our Midst series, and it's getting rather tedious to read through. None of the "danger" is actually that dangerous to the heroes, so there's no tension. That's why I doubt the people who have said that this series is on par with Narnia, Harry Potter, and the Lord of the Rings. Need to get started with that book review blog!~ |
right now i'm reading guards! guards! by terry pratchett
Just started Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
https://fi.somethingawful.com/images/smilies/smile.gif |
I'm currently at Chapter 3 of How To Fight A Dragon's Fury by Cressida Cowell.
It's the last title in the brilliant How To Train Your Dragon series... Love these books, love the films/tv series also! |
Currently I'm reading De Triomf van de Dwergen. Which translates to "The Triumph of the Dwarves". Written by the German fantasy author Markus Heitz.
It's the 5th and newest volume of the series. I loved it to bits back then and actually thought the fourth book was the last one. A lot of spinoff books were published after that, mainly featuring the Alves, which are the opposite of Elves. And suddenly a 5th book of the core series came out. So I was really glad the story continued, I'm at page 500 atm and it's still great. |
I'm just starting The Man Who Went Up In Smoke by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö. It's the second in the Martin Beck series of mystery novels, the first of which I read a while back on a whim and rather liked. It's Swedish mystery and since I really liked (the adaptations of) the Millennium series (a.k.a. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Wallander I think I'll enjoy the rest of this series.
I'm working on Bloodline by Claudia Gray. Pretty good novel set up in new Star Wars Canon.
Stephen King's It
Haven't read it since I was like 16. There's was a lot I didn't understand and parts I forgot but re-reading it now is pretty amazing. |
Quote:
EDIT: Starring Ben Affleck haha |
One book I am reading for the second time is Star Wars Lost Stars by Claudia Gray. It takes place during 11 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin) to 5 ABY (After Battle of Yavin).
Currently enjoying The Iron Ghost by Jen Williams...
It's the second book in the 'Copper Cat' fantasy series - Really reccommend, great reads :) |
Quote:
Currently reading The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It's my first time reading the book, even though it's one of my mother's favorite books. At least now I'll be a little more prepared when the movie comes out.
Karen Memory by Elizabeth Bear. One of the most unique steampunk novels I have ever read.
I'm re-reading Divergent by Veronica Roth. :3 I haven't finished it, but I lost my place though.
Started two books at the same time!
Is God a Mathematician? by Mario Luvio - it's about how the ways of the natural world can be explained by mathematics. Very dry reading, but it's a physics book, and I'm always interested in that. Ender In Exile by Orson Scott Card - let's not get into my feelings about this book. |
Alchemist & Valkyries by Paulo Coelho
Just finished Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden. |
I'm reading The Laughing Policeman which is the fourth book in the detective series by Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö and so far the best one. (Also unfortunately the last one my local library has.) Almost done with this one and so far I've only got a vague inkling of how this is going to end. I have high hopes for a dramatic and satisfying ending.
read two books while on holiday; finished reading 'slade house' by david mitchell which was fantastic & i also finished kurt cobain's biography, 'heavier than heaven', by charles r. cross. so now i'm reading 'cat sense', but i don't know the author haha
Currently reading Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey...
Finished IT. What a crazy book haha Just started The Shining.
Just closed with reluctant but thorough satisfaction Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho.
Reading Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare :)
I am currently rereading one of the Halo novels. To be precise, the one I am reading is Halo Contact Harvest by Joseph Staten. The book covers the events that lead to the start of the Human-Covenant War.
Queen Victoria's Book of Spells – An Anthology of Gaslamp Fantasy. :]
Started A War of Gifts by Orson Scott Card. It reads like officially published Enderverse fanfiction. What else can I say about it?
I am currently rereading another one of the Halo novels. The one I am reading is Halo The Cole Protocal by Tobias S. Buckell. The events in this book are set ten years after the start of the Human-Covenant War. (So the events of this book are set in the year 2535 since the Human-Covenant War started in the year 2525.)
I'm reading The Red Tree by Caitlin Kiernan. Some kind of ghost story from what the back of the book says. So far it's kind of meh, but it's a quick enough read and it has good reviews so I'll give it a chance.
I'm currently re-reading The Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick.
Currently reading:
First Meetings by Orson Scott Card - A collection of short stories that take place in the Enderverse. Includes the original short story, which is nice. Blue Dahlia by Nora Roberts - Standard romance novel. But I needed something light to read that didn't require much thought. |
Re-reading The Sight by David Clement-Davies - Love this book, really reccommend it if you like anthropomorphic/fantasy books :)
I'm currently reading Anthony Kiedis' autobiography.
Talon by Julie Kagawa
I have great promise in finishing this. I'm a huge fanatic fanatic for dragons. <3 I also forgot to mention that I just got this book from Barnes & Noble today as well. If I enjoy these series, I might consider buying the other two books as well. ^^ |
Right now I am reading Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austin.
I am a huge fan of classic literature, but I dunno... I am not really liking it so far. I think this is mainly because, as a lesbian, I am not really interested in young women trying to find themselves husbands. However, I will keep reading it to the end and see if it gets any better. It is supposed to be a funny book, but I don't think I have gotten to that part yet. |
I am currently rereading Halo The Fall of Reach by Eric Nylund. This novel happens to be the prequel novel to the first Halo game. Course the version of the book I have is the 2001 edition, not the 2010 reprint.
Pokemon book :)
Right now, I am reading Fool's Quest by Robin Hobb - It's the second book of Fitz And The Fool
Yes, I like reading... ^_^ |
Already halfway through Speaker For the Dead by Orson Scott Card.
This used to be my favorite book until I found how just how many issues it has. |
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. How have I only just learn of this book now?
Silence is Golden, the 3rd book part of the Storm and Silence series by Robert Their. The first 2 books are available to read for free on Wattpad whilst the other is on Radish Fiction. I totally recommend them, its not your usual romance story you usually find on Wattpad :)
Quote:
I'm currently finishing up Storm Front by Jim Butcher. I decided to read it based off of a recommendation from a coworker and have enjoyed it so far. |
Lacking anything that's really piqued my interest I've gone back to an old favorite, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin. I've also added to my jar or tears upon remembering that disappointing Ghibli adaptation.
Quote:
Been reading Eye of the world by Robert Jordan. Part one of the wheel of time series. Massive LotR vibes from this. So far a really great read. Interesting characters and world building.
Currently reading:
Black Rose by Nora Roberts - Second book in the In The Garden trilogy, and the plot is all over the place. Like Roberts wasn't sure which character she wanted to write about in this book. Xenocide by Orson Scott Card - Let's not talk about this. |
In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. I haven't read a lot of non fiction books so far, but this one is just exceptional. There's just something about Capote's writing that just sticks with you.
I am reading Harry Potter and the cursed child.
It isnt exactly a book but its a stage script of the play. |
I am currently reading The Merlin Conspiracy by Diana Wynne-Jones
I am reading "when breath becomes air" What makes life worth living in the face of death? What do you do when the future, no longer a ladder toward your goals in life, flattens out into a perpetual present? What does it mean to have a child, to nurture a new life as another fades away? These are some of the questions Kalanithi wrestles with in this profoundly moving, exquisitely observed memoir.

Right now I've been reading about quantum reality. Its wild stuff.
Currently I am rereading another one of the Halo books. The one I am reading is Halo Glasslands by Karen Traviss. It is the first of the Halo books in the Kilo Five trilogy. It takes place between Halo 3 and Halo 4, in other words it takes place after the Human - Covenant War.
Red Lily by Nora Roberts - The last book in the In The Garden series. It's getting trippy, since the plot is moving away from the romance a little and more into the supernatural.
Neal Stephenson's Seveneves.
The Emperor's Blades by Brian Staveley
It's a pretty solid fantasy novel so far. I like the concept and the main characters all seem quite interesting. |
I just started a book I got from the artist alley at Saboten today. :3 It's called Angel's Prophecy by Kira Shay. The artist who did the cover was my senpai, 69Geist. <3
Spoiler:
"A Theory of Socialism and Capitalism" by Hans-Herman Hoppe. I love this guy. <3
I also finished "Conspiracies of the Ruling Class: How to Break Their Grip Forever" by Lawrence B. Lindsey. Conspiracies started off pretty bland and didnt really teach me anything I didnt know already. But most of the book was amazing! Very factual and interesting! However, I think the "How to Break Their Grip Forever" was a bit naive. Great ideas, but I think the author makes a mistake by being too pro-democracy. I think the part about being philosophically populist as a method of "breaking the grip" could make up for that mistake though. Overall a 7/10. |
I am currently rereading another one of the Halo books. The one I am rereading is Halo Mortal Dictata by Karen Traviss. It is the final book in the the Kilo Five trilogy. The time period it is set in is between Halo 3 and Halo 4.
I'm reading (dreadfully slow) two books atm: The Snows of Kilimanjaro which is a collection of Hemingway's short stories and Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
I recently finished a book called Hemingway in Love where he talks about his love life and all the issues that stemmed from it. One of the sections talks about how both he and Fitzgerald spoke to each other long after they had published their big all star books, were mostly broke, suffering alcoholics, and without the loves of their lives. Those feelings were what inspired the two books I'm reading now and it makes you read them in a completely different way. |
Right now I am reading James and The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. It is fantastic so far.
The next book I plan to read is Temba Dawn by Alec Lea, which is another children's book. |
Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott - This is a book about writing. Not just how to write, but also why writing is so magical to people. I just started it, but I can see myself in a lot of what's written here.
Children of the Mind by Orson Scott Card - I will be so glad when I am done with this book. |
rereading asoiaf for the third time
