Optimist or Pessimist?

Which are you?

I'm a full blown pessimist. I don't see the point in being happy and finding the best in everything, because everything in ends in death eventually. Death is not a good thing, it is the end of everything. So why be happy and find the best, when only the worst is to come? I can't bring myself to find the good in almost anything. I find the biggest issues in everything.

You concern me.

Really optimistic!

I used to be really negative actually, but I honestly think life's way easier to live when you stay on the bright side.

alisaie July 5th, 2015 8:09 PM

Optimist-Realist. I'm optimistic but I'm not so blindly optimistic that I can't see the real side of things. But if I had a choice between looking at the brighter side of a decision or the darker side I 99% of the time look on the brighter side. 'Let's look on the bright side' or 'well at least' are two common things I say whenever something is happening. But I mean, if someone steals my wallet or something I'm not going to be all optimistic 'oh hey they'll definitely bring it back to me!' because chances are they won't and that's just when I hope reverse psychology does it's job hahah.

But like what Larry said life is just so much easier when you try to lookon the brighter side of life rather than always thinking so pessemistically. I couldn't live like that.

why? sure happiness is ephemeral, but if you ask me temporary joy beats infinite and voluntary sadness any day. besides, what you're talking about is called the suffering of change -- a connection with worldly things only leads to inevitable suffering because of its fleeting nature. you can either renounce everything's impermanence and become a monk or something, or enjoy things while they last. damn it

But why does change have to exist? If it's not broken, don't fix it. I just wish everything could stay the same, so I find the worst in everything. I have trouble finding joy in things don't last a long time. Honestly, the biggest things I like are thrills and pain. Both are extremely temporary, but they're almost always the same when you experience them again.

Spinosaurus July 5th, 2015 8:57 PM

I'm hopelessly optimistic.

Somewhere_ July 5th, 2015 9:03 PM

I try my best to be optimistic. It turns out there have been many studies and those who are optimistic are healthier and live longer! However, I try to be realistic about my expectations so I dont get let down. And if I blow everything up to be great, then I will experience a lot of disappointment, which is ironic because I am being optimistic.

The death of something means the beginning of another. There can't be a transistion without death/change. If nothing changes nothing grows. There are unpleasant things in life, but by going through them we learn.

If death is the end all for you why spend every waking moment in misery? I spent a lot of time seeing only the worse and eventually realized I was only doing a diservice to myself.

Absolutely this. I'm an optimistic realist too. I just can't imagine how dull/depressing life would be if I didn't assume the best in people and find the good in every situation. That doesn't mean I'm optimistic about everything no matter the odds, it just means I'd rather err on the side of positivity than anything else because it makes me feel good. Life is too short to spend it being unhappy or upset at things for no good reason.

Her July 5th, 2015 10:12 PM

I tend to be pessimistic but it's out of a tired cynicism rather than any real loathing for the world. I think I'm more pessimistic in my views of people than I am of life events themselves - I tend to be very good at reading and understanding people and time after time I am left wanting more by their actions. I have hope for the world, but I'm hardly ever surprised when something awful happens.

pkmin3033 July 5th, 2015 10:26 PM

I'm more of a cynic than I am a pessimist - if I have sufficient evidence, I'm quite capable of looking at things in a positive light. I can be optimistic if I think the odds are in my favour, and when things aren't I tend to take the warped "it could be worse" viewpoint, which is a kind of optimism in itself. I might be going through shit, but at least I'm not going to go through worse shit. Probably.

I wouldn't call myself a realist. As far as I'm concerned there is no such thing as realism; people are not objective and will inevitably look upon something in a biased way based on their expectations. Just because it's not as extreme as it could be does not mean that it isn't optimistic/pessimistic. But I'm not all doom and gloom, all the time. I just go through a lot of rough patches where it becomes difficult to be anything but pessimistic.

But when it comes to other people...well, my views are less than positive, and that's a constant. I suppose you could call that pessimistic, but it becomes a game of semantics at that point.

Synerjee July 5th, 2015 10:31 PM

Optimistic. I try my best to see the bright side of things at all times, even when things seem like they're going the opposite way. It's part of who I am and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Sun July 5th, 2015 10:39 PM

It really depends on the situation, there are things that can really bring me down and very negative. Otherwise I try to stay optimistic as I possible.

Her July 5th, 2015 11:53 PM

I don't understand people who force themselves to be optimistic. I find it very exhausting and that's just from a third person perspective.

Sir Codin July 6th, 2015 1:30 AM

Strangely, I think I'm both at once.

I think people suck, but at the same time I'm sure that one day they'll stop sucking.

Winter July 6th, 2015 1:47 AM

Cynically pessimistic.

That way life always sucks but you know it has reached its rock-bottom worst.

Crunch Punch July 6th, 2015 1:52 AM

Depends on my mood.

punkysaur July 6th, 2015 2:24 AM

I will say I'm OP that is optimistic-pessimist!
! have faced a lot in life till now to really bother about anything bad that happens!I always take everything sportfully! But there are a lot of times when there are negative thoughts in my mind! But now I have learned to brush off those thoughts and not let them affect me!

shadowmoon522 July 6th, 2015 3:21 AM

realist. hope for the best, expect the worse.i see both the good & the bad in everything.i don't look at things positively or negatively.
sugar for example: highly addictive drug that many are addicted too & quite tasty.

maccrash July 6th, 2015 7:08 AM

it totally depends on what's going on in my life but I err more on the side of optimism than anything.

srinator July 6th, 2015 7:18 AM

I am very optimistic
I am optimistic everything will be a certain failure

Aether★ July 6th, 2015 11:39 AM

Realist.

I've been disappointed many times in my life, but sometimes there are some positive things, that keep me sane.

Nah July 6th, 2015 12:36 PM

I consider myself a realist, though I think most people would call me a cynic or even a pessimist. Maybe I am, but idk....

Although there's this too.

starseed galaxy auticorn July 6th, 2015 1:10 PM

It depends. Most of the time, I'm pretty optimistic. I do have bad days where I end up being the opposite though. It just depends on the mood I'm in and my anxiety levels. *shrug*
