Favourite Songs In Video Game

And I don't mean music, but songs. With vocals, you know?

Also no licensed songs! That's cheating. Although I guess covers are okay.

For me:

Warioware D.I.Y - Body Rock

Rhythm Heaven Fever - Beautiful One Day

Rhythm Tengoku - WISH

Metal Gear Rising - Hot Wind Blowing

AND OF COURSE THE BEST BOSS SONG OF ALL TIME
Blue Dragon - Eternity

EDIT: Also just to make this a more general thread, you can post fan covers of video game music.

Good question, I don't think I play many games that have lyrics in the music. TWEWY is the only one I can actually think of at the moment.

The World Ends With You - Three Minutes Clapping
The World Ends With You - Hybrid [New Born]

I know a lot more, but I think this is probably a decent enough for preliminary list.

Burning Rangers - Angels with Burning Hearts

This song is absolutely catchy. Plus, the lyrics are pretty witty. For example, "Sight Of Night I Cheer To Embrace A Magic".

Sonic Adventures 2 - City Escape

I mean...

Bayonetta - Fly Me To The Moon

Spino said covers are okay. I've listened to a lot of different renditions and takes on "Fly Me To The Moon", I've always felt Bayonetta's version was one of the best I've heard. It's a lot more upbeat something that other covers don't really do as they favour the more traditional and slow approach to it.

The World Ends with You - Someday

More TWEWY love.

Tales of Zestiria - Rising Up!

A vocal track in a Tales game! I was super surprised when I heard this on a livestream. I was still just as surprised when I got this part when I played it.

Disgaea 4 - Fuka Theme

Such a deep song that you'll need someone to transcribe the lyrics for you.

There's a fair bit of lyrical/vocal stuff in games that I like:

Bravely Default - Love's Vagrant
The vocal version doesn't actually play in-game afaik but it exists

Soul Nomad - The Last Supper

Xenosaga Episode III - Fatal Fight

Xenosaga Episode III - Promised Pain

Yeah actually I think that the whole Xenosaga soundtrack, particularly Episode 3's, is really good....

Lost Odyssey - Howl of the Departed

Disgaea D2 - Rockin' Princess

And more

A few immediately came to mind, but for the most part I had to refresh my memory.

Chrono Cross - Radical Dreamers

MOTHER - Pollyanna

Wild ARMS 3 - Advanced Wind

Namco x Capcom - Brave New World

Suikoden III - Exceeding Love (Though I still don't know if they're singing in an actual language.)

ICO - You Were There

Ni No Kuni - Pieces of a Broken of Heart

This is tuna with bacon.

I have to admit that I usually detest songs in games with lyrics - they often sound amateurish to my ear. The only songs with lyrics I have every liked are from Kingdom Hearts (surprised these haven't been mentioned, actually)

Kingdom Hearts - Hikari/Simple and Clean
Opening in game

Kingdom Hearts 2 - Passion/Sanctuary
Sanctuary
Passion

These might count as "licensed" songs, but were written and recorded for the Kingdom Hearts games, which makes them valid.

Ooh! I almost forgot the opening for Tales of Vesperia.

I love these threads. So much.

But since I post in these a lot, this time I'll post exactly one. It's not my absolute favorite, nor is it in my top 5 or top 10, but it did have a big impact on me.

Spoiler:

The ending theme to Danganronpa 2 really did a good job of making me feel a good mix of emotions. Danganronpa is a series where, once you look back on all that's transpired from the beginning, you won't feel just happiness, but you'll also feel sadness, possibly regret, and definitely uncertainty. This song, whether you can understand (some of the lyrics) or you're just watching the CGs of things that transpired over the course of the game, both presenting a grand mixture of hope, despair, and something else, really does a good job of tying all of those emotions into a neat bow and gives greater weight to the ending, as well as creating a bitter sweetness in knowing that you have to say goodbye. I like it quite a bit.

Some of my favorites:

Radiant Historia: -HISTORIA-

FFX: Otherworld

Skyrim: Dragonborn

Disgaea: Battle Comrade

Xenoblade Chronicles: The God-Slaying Sword

Oh, more posts. Cool.

Alright then, here are some more.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai 2's Opening

It's a fun opening with an equally fun song. There are a lot of sung openings in Dragon Ball Z games, but I think this'd be my favorite (Though I do have to say, I'm probably a bigger fan of the sax and instrumental versions)...well, probably behind one other.

Dragon Ball Z Burst Limit's Opening

For similar reasons, but this one really aims to capture the me adrenaline-filled side of the series, and it does it pretty well.

---

The World Ends With You - Calling

Easily my favorite TWEWY song. Catchy and hard to get tired of since the Overworld BGMs in this game are rather plentiful.

Metal Gear Solid 3 - Snake Eater

It's Snake Eater...I mean, what else can I say here?

Persona 4 - Nevermore

The first time I beat this game back in 2009, this song hit me. Hard. It was a song that really cemented that the game was really over and it was time to say goodbye. Considering at the time P4 was one of my favorite games...well, let's just say that this song does its job well.

---

And for some campier, far from serious but still memorable and of highly debatable quality picks:

Donkey Kong 64 - The DK Rap

I know this song by heart thanks to my childhood. Most'll certainly find it cringeworthy, but strangely I've never gotten to that point. Take it for what you will, but it's one of those catchy songs that'll get stuck, whether you want it to or not.

Inazuma Eleven DS - English Opening

It's bad. Really bad. But it's catchy as hell and though you don't want it stuck in your head...well, that's not gonna happen. It's a bad translation with a bad singer to an otherwise really fun and energetic song. "Favorite" might be a stretch for this song. "Like", too. My relationship with this song might be likened to one suffering from Stockholm Syndrome.

---

And that's about all that I'll be posting for today. I didn't want to post much but I realized that I generally don't post vocal songs from games for various reasons, so this is kind of liberating.
