Help request about Rom Hacking

Hello everyone,
I would like to create my own rom hack. (I know I won't be able to create exactly what I want from the start, I'm not a kid ;) )
So, I need help to begin.
I found some tool pack but I don't know if I have everything needed.
If there are any tools that you recommend me, then please, list them with their functionnality.

Also, if there are anything else needed for rom hacking, I would like to know.
What I mean is, do I need to know how to code? If so, what language? C++? JAVA?

Thanks a lot :)

You don't need to know coding, no. The closest thing to coding would be scripting, but that's vastly simpler and you don't need any previous experience (it's nice to know ASM as well, but definitely not needed)

Some essentials are:
Advance Map 1.92 - editing maps, most important tool you will need
XSE - Scripting, to create and edit events
G3HS/G3T - easy editing of Pokemon data, trainers, items, etc.
NSE/Advanced series - inserting and editing sprites, Advanced Series is great for Pokemon sprites and NSE for everything else
A hex editor - more advanced than previous tools and not 100% needed, but good to have

And of course there are the obvious things like the emulator to test your hack, and there are heaps of other tools to do just about anything you want. To be honest though those are all you need, everything else can be accomplished with the hex editor. Good luck, if you have any questions feel free to ask me!
