I chose Chespin because I always go for the Grass Starter, however I wasn't overly keen on it's evolutions design wise. I adore Froakie and Greninja is awesome! Fennekin is super cute too! I did actually have them all on my team for most of my main playthrough so that was pretty neat.

HXC88 September 3rd, 2015 7:45 PM

I've chosen grass every time since Blue version. However, this is the first time I picked water right off the bat. Could bring myself to choose Chespin.

DraconianWing September 3rd, 2015 8:11 PM

I chose Froakie, but only after I found out that it evolves into a ninja frog!

Regardless of the RPG, I have always preferred playing as the speedy yet vulnerable/stealthy class, most notably in Final Fantasy. Sometimes I play the cookie-cutter "hero with a sword and shield" class because you often end up starting out with those, but Mage/Sorcerer type characters have never really been my thing due to my weakness in indirect combat.

Centipede Chan September 3rd, 2015 8:19 PM

My first play of X was Fennekin, my second was Chespin. Whenever that next version comes for Kalos I am gonna go with Chespin again. I like Greninja and all, but I take my starters to a personal level as if I had to choose in real life, and grass types are my favorite. So yeah, sorry Froakie :(

KorpiklaaniVodka September 5th, 2015 5:09 AM

I'm on Team Chesnaught. I like abusing moves such as Wood Hammer, Drain Punch and Spiky Shield. Chesnaught is a good tank to use.

Aether September 7th, 2015 7:46 PM

The moment I saw Chesnaught's design leaked, I pledged to pick Chespin as my starter, and I've never regretted it.

Chesnaught is just excellent at what it does, being bulky while able to deal powerful punches, and its design beautifully emphasizes that.

as soon as i saw the the artwork of the 3 starters, http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130111162904/fakemon/es/images/f/fc/Froakie_sprite.pngor http://orig13.deviantart.net/ece9/f/2013/014/f/3/fennekin_sprite_by_dancesofshadows-d5qwyza.pngwas my choice. before i got X i had already known full well of the second starter with megastone as well as shauna giving the starter week to one one chosen at the begining of the game so i decided on http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130111162904/fakemon/es/images/f/fc/Froakie_sprite.png with http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/004.gif as my second
as for the other gens...
the first pokemon game i got a hold of was yellow with a gameboy color as a christmas present mailed to me from my father.(i was living in indiana at the time ) so i didn't have any choice of starter til i got red within the next few days to a month. i don't really know, i did however spend a lot of time playing yellow. it kinda threw my teachers off guard that i was playing a video game in their classes while simultaneously doing my work and getting better scores then the rest of my class while still being one of the ones with the most detentions due to getting into fights,
once i got red i decided on http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/004.gifright off the bat after seeing how awesome it was in yellow. soon after i got red, i got a blue version & chose http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/007.gif.
years passed & the second gen came. i got both gold & silver at the same time. on gold i chose http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/155.gif& on silver i chose http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/158.gif
then came the 3ed gen with ruby & sapphire & again i got both at the same time
with ruby i got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/258.gif
sapphire i got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/252.gif
then i got Colosseum with the 2 awesome eeveelutions as the starters
next came the gen 1 remakes, i got firered first with http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/004.gif as my starter then got leafgreen & got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/001.gif as my starter
after that came emerald and http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/255.gifas my starter
xd gale of darkness & chose to evolve that http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/133.gifinto a http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/136.gif
then i got diamond & chose http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/387.gifas my starter
with pearl i got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/390.gif
platinum & http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/393.gifas a starter
i got hg & ss with a gamestop preorder and got a http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/155.gifas a starter with hg & http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies2/152.gifon my ss
got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies/495.pngon black & black2
got http://www.serebiiforums.com/images/smilies/498.pngon white & white2

I prefer chespin over the other two fennekin and froakie but my favorite choice of starters would be the three johto starters Pokémon

TheKojo September 10th, 2015 7:52 PM

This is the first time I didn't choose the fire starter because 1) I wanted to use the Charmander Sycamore gives you and 2) I didn't like Fennekin that much

I ended up with Chespin. I like the secondary types and themes they gave the starters.

Sothis September 11th, 2015 3:37 AM

In X I chose Froakie and Y I chose Fennekin!
I love both their final evos equally so!
I like Chespin, but Chesnaught not so much :<

Team Flare Lysandre September 11th, 2015 4:02 AM

My run was with Fennekin, I enjoy its whole evolution line.

I tend to go with the fire types naturally.

Bounsweet September 13th, 2015 10:17 AM

FENNEKIN ALL THE WAY.

I love the Fennekin line so much, honestly. It's easily tied with Chikorita for my favorite starter, although admittedly I do think Delphox's design could have been a little bit better, but it's not the worst.

Geltza September 13th, 2015 12:22 PM

To me, Delphox is one of the worst looking Pokémon to ever exist. Which is a shame because I actually liked Fennekin the best out of the three starters when they were revealed! Chespin was a close second. I thought all three starters looked good when they were revealed and then their evolutions hit. Didn't like Quilladin, didn't like Frogadier, Braxien wasn't what I was expected but probably the best out of a bad bunch.

Then the final evolutions hit. I liked Greninja, thought Chesnaught looked awkward and was nearly sick when I seen Delphox. Ok, maybe not literally haha. Just like to exaggerate for effect :P But I was so gutted with the way it looked.

Anyway, Greninja all the way, Chesnaught looks a bit awkward, but I'm awkward too so I still kinda like the big guy!

Ammako September 15th, 2015 12:11 PM

I like the idea of picking the water starter, because then your starter is the one who carries you over the water :p
A bit of a difficult choice sometimes, though... since in X/Y, if you use Surf with a Lapras, it uses an actual Lapras when surfing, and in OR/AS, you surf super fast if you use a Sharpedo... so many decisions!

Dillon_68 September 15th, 2015 3:51 PM

Initially started out with Chespin, and liked him a lot. Trained Fennekin a bit to register it's forms in the Pokedex and ended up claiming it as my 6th gen starter. This is only the second Fire starter I've ever used, with Torchic being the other, so it's a bit unusual for me to fall in love with it, but Delphox is awesome.

Arylett Charnoa September 15th, 2015 4:38 PM

Braixen. No, not Fennekin. Braixen.

When I first saw Fennekin, its design was fairly standard and bland to me. I didn't hate it, but it wasn't really as cool as previous designs in that vein. (Like Vulpix.) Nothing really stood out about it. However, I was excited about what potential it had. Its evolutions. So I waited.

And then I got my new favorite Pokemon of all time. BRAIXEN! It's adorable, cute, and feminine. Just much more cuter than Fennekin to me. Great use of colors too. And its cry... plus its motions in Pokemon Amie... I literally can't get enough of Braixen. I find it to be a very relatable design, and really identify with being one. Oh my God, I was so pleased with this one that there was no way it could evolve to surpass itself. Sadly, it didn't.

I don't hate Delphox, but it definitely loses a lot of the appeal it had as Braixen. Braixen in my opinion is a much more clever design. A tail that resembles a broomstick where it also keeps its wand? It fits MUCH better with the witch theme. With Delphox, it lost a lot of not just its feminine cuteness, but it also became more... medieval and Gandolf-y. And I'm not really too fond of that. They just kind of stuck a fiery robe on it and lazily had it store its stick on its sleeve.

Now, I still like Delphox. It has more red in its color scheme. And I'll use one if I need the extra power. But I'd prefer not to evolve my Braixen. Honestly, the design of Delphox just needs some slight re-tooling to work better. I think the ear hair should be made more long and slender similarly to Braixen's, perhaps to resemble human hair a bit more since it's a humanoid witch-type thing. Also, they should've kept the part where it stores its stick in its tail and emphasized more of the broomstick nature of a witch. Or maybe something like a crystal ball made of fire since it's supposed to be based on an oracle.

Also, I do like the RPG theming in the starters this gen, but think it's a bit less original than previous concepts.

As for Chespin and Froakie, I pretty much think their evolutions turned out the best they could, and don't really think they need any improvement. I pretty much like all the Gen VI starters, which is rare because there's usually a dud each generation for me. (Which is almost always the Water-type.)

Otamajakushi September 15th, 2015 5:33 PM

I chose Froakie because he's a frog and looked really adorable. I like ninjas too, so Greninja was pretty awesome and powerful.

Lexatom September 17th, 2015 1:54 PM

My favorite Kalos starter of the bunch is Chespin, and was the one I picked. I usually pick the starter who's design I liked the most, since I would like to find out how good its stats are and the typing on my own playthrough. I still think Chespin is the best out of the trio, even after completing the game.

Nuclearkiller42 September 17th, 2015 3:01 PM

I don't like Chespin and his evolutions. They look really ugly to me. Both Delphox and Greninja are really awesome, but I prefer Delphox. Shiny Greninja is better though.

Auros September 17th, 2015 3:37 PM

At glance I prefer Fennekin (Froakie looks a bit stupid to me), but if I have to choose between the final evolutions then I'll surely go for Greninja.

tokyodrift September 17th, 2015 4:44 PM

One my first run, I chose Fennekin. It's cute design, and it's unique Fire/Psychic typing when it evolves. I think it was a nice change from the typical Fire/Fighting that was prevalent for a few generations. Fennekin's design really made me think about if I should let it evolve or not as well.

Greninja is so weak as a final that Ill take the grass starter. I used Greninja and even besides competitive play (where Greninja is good 4/10 times) I failed against most of the gym leaders and it was really embarrassing to me. I couldnt work up the nerve to get past the electric gym leader until I caught a ground Pokemon which I obviously had to just to progress through the game.

Raskolnikov September 23rd, 2015 3:08 AM

I've chosen Froakie because it's adorable and strong evolutinary. Greninja is a ninja frog as you know and I like it's sprite.

I didn't like Fennekin or Chespin; Fennekin's final evolution is creepy and useless to me. Same way Chespin. Also, Chesnaught is too ugly and I don't like ugly pokemon.

I have to be honest about something. 6th gen starters are my least favorite starters by a landslide.

http://orig05.deviantart.net/0f9c/f/2015/042/3/2/656_froakie_by_3d_poke_sprites-d8hlas8.gif
I usually go for the grass starter first but since my friend had decided on chespin already, I went with froakie because I like frogs. I like the speed and design of froakie and its evos. It honestly felt like the only design that made sense all the way through. Froakie has aggravated me more times than once however. If you have ever wondertraded you received protean froakies out the rear and I just got tired of getting them. They are also a common occurrence in every try hard competitive team ever(and the personality of the person makes it harder to stand). But out of the three, Froakie has to be the best one in my opinion. Calling it my favorite would be an over statement.

http://l-userpic.livejournal.com/119782636/50694365
Fennekin is adorable I have to admit. However its design bothers me, it looks like it started out as a fighting type and it didn't evolve into the okami dog that I wanted it to be. Stat wise it is alright but I have never liked psychic types and I usually despise the fire starter with all of my heart. So my two least favorite types in one...eh...no.

http://archive.pokedit.com/boards/ckfinder/userfiles/2/images/chespin-sprite.gif
My least favorite of the three...Chespin. Chespin is cute, its evolutions on the other hand, not so much. Quilladin just looks all kinds of dumb and Chesnaught just feels like it doesn't belong in this line. It's like this evolution chain just missed a step. Battle wise, its alright, nothing to write home about. It has a good bit of defense to it and overall it didn't have the same effect on me as any of the other grass starters did.

Overall the entire trio didn't give me the same feel I was expecting from the other trios and just fell short. It felt like it was missing something, and that makes me sad.

iThuggHard October 1st, 2015 5:26 AM

I have always chosen water... Even though I hate the color blue and prefer red. The water ones always seem like the most badass to me. Only time I didn't choose water was in my first Pokemon game, Yellow, in whinch you're given Pikachu, obviously. :)
