The Heiwa Region
The Heiwa Archipelago intro | coming soon | overview | geology | climate | wildlife | locations | organizations pokédex | league | people | chat | wiki | support Introduction Hello! Welcome to the Heiwa Archipelago! The Heiwa Archipelago is (though under different names) the combination for a lot of ideas I have had for regions over the years. The majority of the Region exists here (and in my mind), but it is also being developed into a hack, which you can see here. The Archipelago itself has been inspired by the islands of the Pokémon franchise, the Orange Islands, Sevii Islands, the Decolore Islands, you get the idea. I really like the idea of traveling through a series of islands, kind of like Ash and Co. have done in the anime. Timeline of Events

A Bit About the Archipelago The Heiwa Archipelago is located a decent distance to the south of the Hoenn Region, and is surrounded by (relatively) shallow ocean water caused by caused by a series of underwater volcanoes. Although many of the volcanoes that made it above water and became islands are no longer active, a few (unnamed) ones are still making new islands to this day. Heiwa was first discovered by a group of sailors many years ago, a number of whom decided to settle down and live there. It's discovery drew attention from the world over, and Heiwa is now one of the top vacation spots for people from many regions. As the population grew the local Heiwa Pokémon League was established and the region also became known as a place for trainers to not only enjoy the different islands but also test their mettle on a circuit of challenging gyms. Because the primary economy of Heiwa is tourism, the League tournaments are held during the summer (so as to maximize potential profits), though the gyms can be challenged year round. (Some disgruntled trainers claim it is because the officials don't want to referee in the rain.) The Geology of Heiwa The Heiwa Archipelago was formed by a series of underwater volcanoes in a naturally shallow part of the ocean, though a recent study has concluded that this volcanic activity played a part in the shallow waters as well. For the most part, the volcanic activity has died considerably, with the last documented eruption occurring some 200 years ago. There are a few active volcanoes within the region, however they are the "slowly erupting" type of volcanoes, and are merely spilling slow moving lava into the ocean and expanding the islands they formed decades ago. The numerous islands combined with the shallow waters of the archipelago have led to ideal conditions for coral reefs, and a number of atolls have formed as a result. The Climate of Heiwa The climate of the Heiwa region is both tropical and subtropical, with each island varying sightly from the others. They typical "rule" for this is that the further north an island, the colder it usually is. Similarly, changes in elevation often lead changes in temperature and wildlife. There are two seaons in Heiwa: the wet season and the dry season. The wet season, lasting from approximately October through April, is known for it's widespread storms which though not often violent have lead to flash floods due to heavy rainfall. The average temperature during the wet season is usually between 20 and 24 °C (68 - 75 °F), though the humidity often makes it feel much hotter for those not used to such conditions. The shallow seas surrounding the islands usually mean that monsoons that form in deeper waters lose much of their ferocity before reaching the main islands. The dry season, conversely, is known for is it's sunny conditions and noticeably light rainfall (showers typically produce no more than a millimeter or two during the dry season). However, rain falls just often enough that plants are easily able to survive until the wet season. The average temperature during the dry season is much less consistent than the wet season, and can be anywhere between 26 and 36 °C (78 - 96 °F). Fortunately, cool trade winds from the south east often provide a gentle respite from the heat as they form over the cold waters of the ocean. As noted earlier, natural disasters and monsoons are uncommon within the archipelago, with the last recorded monsoon to reach shores being 10 years ago. Likewise, the appearance of a tsunami is very rare. The Wildlife of Heiwa Due to its relative proximity to the Hoenn Region, a number of Pokémon from Hoenn are native to this region. It is not uncommon for the average traveler to see a school of Luvdisc or a flock of Wingull before their boat even reaches one of the islands. But, heavy tourism has introduced number of non-native Pokémon, in particular those from Johto and Kanto. It is interesting to note that a unique number of Fairy type Pokémon have been native to the islands for years, despite not being a part of the typical "Hoenn" ecosystem. There are no official starter Pokémon for the Heiwa Region, and the local Professor, a Celia Totora, offers whichever she can acquire to beginners. Lately, the Johto starters have been increasingly common, though Professor Totora denies anything but good fortune (much to the chagrin of members of a local initiative hoping to introduce the Johto starters as the "obvious, tropical choice"). Notable Locations Cities & Towns A. Elurte Town A town on the oddly cold (and sometimes snow-covered) Elurte Island, Elurte Town and the nearby Elurra Island are the only places outside mountain tops that ever see snow in the Heiwa Region. Scientists have been stumped for years trying to figure out the islands unnaturally cold climate. Various theories have been given, but none have managed to explain it thoroughly. Local legends claim the influence of some kind of legendary Pokémon, but if it exists it has not been witnessed in Heiwa for centuries. B. Sumendi Town A mid-sized town in the north-east of Heiwa, Sumendi Town is situated right on the slopes of Mt. Sumendi, the only active volcano left in the region (above the water). The town is home to a number of attractions, including a large hotspring (simply called the Sumendi Hotsprings), a Fire-type Pokémon Gym (which doubles as a restaurant), and even a woman that claims to have created the ultimate elemental moves. The Fire-type Gym is led by ???. C. Vittoria City One of the largest cities in Heiwa, Vittoria City is home to the Headquarters of the Heiwa League. Each summer the Hiewa League Championships are held in the four large stadiums that can be found in the city. The most impressive building in Vittoria (aside from the stadiums) is the League Headquarters building, located to the north of the town. The town itself is somewhat small, being built into the mountainside. The homes are small, stone buildings and the roads are similarly paved with stone. It is considered a lovely, calming place to relax after the challenge trainers face travelling through Victory Road (though the city can be reached without passing through Victory Road). Vittoria City is also the capital city of Heiwa, and on top of a number of governmental complexes, any embassies established in the region are also found here (currently the Cerian and Dúlran embassies). D. Ohea City Ohea City is a small city, located on the same island as Port Piccolo. Ohea Town was initially a mining town, but since the mines moved to the opposite side of the island it has become a popular tourist spot for trainers and sightseers wanting to relax before traveling to the bustling Vittoria City for the Heiwa League. E. Port Piccolo Port Piccolo is a small port and fishing town. Despite its small size, it is home to the largest fishing operation in Heiwa. In addition, Port Piccolo serves as the main port for a large mining operation to the north of the town. F. Primaria City Primaria City is the second largest city in the Heiwa Region, much of its growth owing to its centralized location and proximity to the Heiwa International Airport (which is on the outskirts). Aside from the airport, Primaria City is also home to Professor Totora's Laboratory and the gym of the Flying-type Gym Leader Caelum. G. Ombra Town Ombra Town is that is in touch with the darkness (not evilly so). Built in the shadow of the tallest mountain of Heiwa, Ombra Town is almost always darker than the rest of the region. Its vegetation reflects this, being much thicker and taller than one usually encounters. Ombra Town is also a place of culture, known for its world-famous Dance Theatre, where visitors can watch performances from a number of groups. One of the most popular dancing groups is a troupe of Kimono Girls from the Johto Region, who give performances every other Friday. Be sure to stop by and see them! Ombra Town is home to the Dragon-type Gym, led by ???. H. Solitario Town A rather unremarkable little town, Solitario is a quiet community that used to make a living as a fishing town. It has since become known for it's newspaper, the Heiwa Herald, which is circulated throughout the archipelago by a specially trained team of Pidgey. I. Port Fortuna The largest city and port in Heiwa, Port Fortuna is an economic hub. Port Fortuna is known for two things: it's skilled shipwrights and it's casinos. That's right, Port Fortuna is a gambling city, known world wide as the "Port of Good Fortune". Money changes hands everywhere in the city, and vendors from the world over come to sell their wares to hopeful gamblers. It is home to the Psychic-type Gym of the region, led by Eleska. J. Itsaso Town Itsaso Town is a semi-floating town, built on an atoll in the middle of the sea. It is home to a number of fishermen, but is also a popular tourist spot because of it's unique charm and beautiful ocean view. It is also home to the largest coral reef in the region (which the homes are built on top of), and is positively exploding with marine life that any Water-type enthusiast would simply love to witness. It is home to the Water-type Gym, led by Kayla. K. Loreak City Built near the base of Mt. Loreak, Loreak City is known as the "City of Flowers" because it simply teeming with flowers. Loreak City (and Mt. Loreak) are both named after the rare "Loreak Flower", a flower native to Heiwa that has similar properties to the Gracidea Flower of Sinnoh and causes Shaymin to transform into it's Sky Forme. Because of the flower's importance in the area, Loreak City hosts an annual "Festival of the Flowers" during which Heiwaians gather to celebrate the local Shaymin population and the flowers that decorate the area. Loreak City is home to the Fairy-type Gym led by Brina. L. Vivre City A large city, Vivre City is a hub for the farms located in the southern islands of Heiwa. Vivre City was created out of marshlands, and the land to the direct south (before the farms) still reflects this, and the city is known to flood on occasion. As a hub for farmers, Vivre City features a large market place where Heiwaians and tourists can purchase any number of local foods and goods. Vivre City is home to the Bug-type Gym led by Titheo. Mountains, Forests, and More Coming soon! :) The Organizations of Heiwa There are a number of organizations that can be joined within Heiwa (or there will be one day). You can read about them here on their own post. The Heiwa League The Heiwa League follows the standard 8 Gym format. Challengers are expected to collect all 8 badges, though the order that they do so is up to the challenger. Once a challenger has collected their badges, they become eligible to participate in the Heiwa League Championships, a region-wide tournament held during the dry season that draws upwards of 250 participants each year. The top four finalists of the tournament are then allowed to challenge the Heiwa Elite Four for a shot a battling the Champion of the Heiwa League, Emmeline. Winners of the tournament will receive a trophy as well as cash prize. The Heiwa League aims to draw trainers from the world over, and has been very successful. As part of this endeavor, all members of the Elite Four are not required to live in the region, but rather must simply be present when they are challenged. Gym Leaders, because they can be challenged year-round, are required to live and train within the region full-time. The Gym Leaders The Gym Leaders of the Heiwa League are specialists in the eight types most commonly found within the Heiwa Region, though they have been known to use Pokémon imported from outside regions in their battles. Current Leaders
The Elite Four of the Heiwa League are specialists in two types and are masters at battling. They use Pokémon from all over the world on their teams, in the spirit of the Heiwa League. They are:
The Champion The Champion of the Heiwa League, Emmeline, has held her current position for the last 6 years, a position she won from the previous Champion Jack. She does not specialize in a particular type, but is known for her aggressive style of battling. Becoming a member of the Heiwa Region is a rather multifaceted thing, and has many levels of participation. It can be as simple as having your name on the list in order to say "I like this place!" or as involved as being a trainer and role-playing your way through the region. Here is the generic application, feel free to fill in as many or few fields as you like. Code:
Chat with Heiwa At one time we had a Skype group, although that died with the World of PC. Learn More About Heiwa Looking to learn more about Heiwa? Well you're in luck! The Heiwa Region has it's own Wiki, found here: http://heiwa.wikia.com/wiki/Heiwa_Wikia. It is still very much a work-in-progress, but rest assured that it holds a ton of information, including details about the hack! So I've added a lot about the region today! Whew~
As of right now, the Heiwa Archipelago is accepting applications for trainers and citizens! You can apply for Gym Leader/Elite Four positions, but know that I will only accept people that understand what this position entails, provide appropriate teams (this means read about the league!), and that I think are responsible enough for the position. |

Brina grew up in Unova, where there was a distinct lack of the Fairy Pokémon she holds dear, other than the Whimsicott that came with her to Heiwa. When she's not battling, she runs a florist, with her Florges helping her out. The bouquets she makes are admired both in Heiwa and her native Unova, with attention even being garnered in places such as Hoenn. NOTE: Trainer picture is just a placeholder. |

Will do! I hope more people join the region.
On the topic of the contest, what shall we do about our Emblem? I think that it should include greens and blues at least, as well as another colour to make the two clash a little less, like white. |
Quote:
As for the emblem, I've got a bit of a thing going in my head. My graphical skills are near abysmal, so we'll see how it turns out. It's going to be focused on the semi-unofficial mascot for our region, Phione, and also the atmosphere of relaxation I want to promote. :) |
Good day, members of the Heiwa Archipelago! The head cartographer of the archipelago (myself) has finally completed a basic map of the region!
As you can see, there are more than 10 locations here. Hopefully one day we will have access to them all. Let me know what you think! :) |
Beautiful! How is the northeastern island accessible - boat?
On graphics, I may be able to try depending on what we need. |
Quote:
And don't worry about graphics for now, I've whipped up a little something for the emblem. I'll be posting it some time today. But, if you want to contribute other graphics in the future please do! |

No problem! I'm glad to help out. Now, I should really get to actually designing Brina...

Wow definitely a great emblem, congrats! Doesn't that mean Heiwa's like the most powerful region in the world or something haha /idkwhatpointsdo
|
I think that if we take this as a contest, it does indeed mean we are the most powerful region. We can use this! We now have a Pokédex size of 175, which means we can have a wider selection of Pokémon!
|

Also, I've begun added location descriptions so be sure to check out the first post! :) |
Woot! #teamheiwa
|
Now that the new ones have been added, we do indeed have a larger selection as well as some legendaries! I'll be adding an Azumarril to my team, if that's all right?

That logic is lovely haha.
So for the comic I'm working on, I had Bree in kind of a rocky, cliff-y area with wild fire types. So that would probably be near Ombra Town, right? Or would it be more likely closer to Sumendi? |

(But there are still rumors she is psychic herself.) She does has the affinity to do so - unclear as to how. She looks young and is always assumed to be 16-18 years old when she is not. It is known that she was once a part of the Kimono Girls until she has received her new position: Being Gym Leader. Of Psychic. Organizations in the Archipelago There are a number of organizations within the Heiwa Archipelgo that a citizen may join. And if you don't see one already, an interested party may always petition the current Champion Lady Emmeline (myself) to found a new one. An organization can really have any purpose, from publishing a nationwide newspaper to being a small interest group. Joining an Organization Joining an organization is rather simple. A citizen need only fill out a general application (below), describing your name, the organization you want to join, the position desired, and any further details that may be necessary for the job. Application Code:
The Heiwa Herald The Heiwa Herald is the official region of the Heiwa Archipelago. Based out of Solitario Town, it keeps the town running solely on the revenue it generates. Owned and run by Mr. Garnet (his full name is known only by those closest to him), it has been the major source for news for Heiwaians since its inception 10 years ago. A new issue of the Heiwa Herald goes out every Friday, delivered by a team of specially trained Carrier Pidgey. Special editions of the paper have been printed when the need calls for it. IssuesEmployees
The Kimono Girls of Ombra Town The Kimono Girls of Ombra Town are a dancing troupe that performs traditional Heiwaian dances every other Friday in the Dance Theatre in Ombra Town. Originally started by a Kimono Girl from the Kimono Dance Theatre of Ecruteak City in the Johto Region, the Kimono Girls also carry on a number of traditions found in Johto as well. Some fanatical fans have claimed the Kimono Girls have a connection to both Ho-oh and Lugia, much like their counterparts in Johto, but Lady Suki vehemently denies such accusations. Kimono Girls

The Heiwa Herald Water Pokémon Gone Berserk! All across the peaceful region of Heiwa, since that disturbance was felt a few nights ago, Water-type Pokémon have been in an uproar. What were once some of the friendliest Pokémon in the archipelago have now become some of the fiercest of creatures, attack people and Pokémon indiscriminately. In the picture above, taken by the Herald's new photographer Bree, you can see the normally docile Azurill and Azumarill assaulting a small ship. Why, even the Magikarp have been driven into an impossible rage! Bree reports that the Happenstance was sunk by the powerful Azumarill shortly after the picture was taken. Although we were unable to get much information from Lady Emmeline, she did let us know that the Heiwa League was looking into the matter, and warned us that all boats would be delayed until the problem is dealt with. We then consulted with Heiwa's own Water Pokémon Master, the Gym Leader Kayla. According to Ms. Kayla, this wild behavior amongst Water types in Heiwa is unheard of, and she suspects an outside influence. Was it a Pokémon? A group with some nefarious purpose? Ms. Kayla is unsure, and says that trainers should take care when training their own Water Pokémon, as it is not known whether owned Pokémon will be effected too. When asked what could be done to calm the Pokémon, Ms. Kayla suggested that a natural solution would be best, for both the environment and the Pokémon. Gym Leader at Risk of Losing Position? Uh-oh! A recent investigation of the Heiwa League by the Herald has found that Heiwa's Ghost-type Gym Leader Awan has been mysteriously absent from his gym (maybe even the region!) since his promotion just a week ago. This is troubling news, as never before in the history of the Heiwa League has a Gym Leader been dismissed due to dereliction of duty. We at the Herald implore Mr. Awan to please return to his gym once more! Well that concludes the first issue of the Heiwa Herald! What did you all think? Hopefully once we get some writers on the staff, we'll have some more stories for you all. :) Also a big thanks to Aquacorde for providing the Herald's name and its very first illustration ("photograph")! |

hello everyone of hewia~ i decided to redo the newspaper to make it look more newspapery (if that's a word haha) let me know what you guys think!
http://i59.*.com/vmzu4z.jpg |
How are we going to get to the bottom of this mystery, though? I'm worried about the residents of Itaso Town especially.
|
Hmmm, I don't know if I wanna make the Psychic Gym Leader, a kimono girl or an ex-kimono girl if that's possible... lol.
Also, oh no. D: What's going on with the precious Water Type? Aiyah, there will be disaster if it's not solved soon enough... and it seems Awan just... vanished, poof. Like a ghost... oh noez. |
so i was thinking we could use a natural element to help stop the pokemon from attacking the boats. we could get grass type pokemon to use sweet scent to stop the pokemon and distract them from attacking the boats. if that doesn't work, we could use psychic pokemon to use telekinesis to take control over the water pokemon.
|
Bree's plotline is that she stops the immediate threat in Solitario by isolating the Pokémon from the psychic influences. She also calls up the rest of the rangers working in Heiwa to help other places. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Dunno how exactly they wanna deal with the many, many mon that are affected tho because ya can't do that on an individual basis really.

Eleska would try to communicate the hostile Water Pokemon from a near sea/ocean/lake and if doesn't work, will have either of her Pokemon talk to them but if it's still doesn't work - she'll call the other Gym Leaders to make a solution to the situation until they find the cause of their hostility. For now, she will try to appease the hostiles and make sure the citizens are warned and not to make drastic measures.
She will not let both people and Water Pokemon get hurt - by each other. |
i think it would be a great idea if everyone had like a trainer fan art photo so we can get visuals. i could make a post with all our characters on it

Okay! So it's time for the people of Heiwa to begin figuring out how we can solve this little conundrum! Now Aquacorde (Bree) mentioned that her character was going to rally the local Pokémon Rangers so that the psychically afflicted (and thus enraged) Pokémon can be isolated, either from the influence itself or at the very least the population. xxkaylabby (Kayla) has brought up the idea of using Sweet Scent to calm the Pokémon down, a natural solution that at the very least would lull the Pokémon while we investigate the source of the influence. The region has a number of grass Pokémon, so finding a number of Pokémon that know the move shouldn't be an issue. What do you all think about pursing this?
|
As stated in post here on what Eleska would do. She'll leave it to the Rangers if they can handle the situation well, other than that, call the other Gym Leaders as to how they can help finding as to why's the Water Pokemon started being hostiles, all the while, calming the buzz on their respective town.
She really doesn't want anyone getting hurt. |
Too bad that Heiwa lacked Pokemon that can learn Sweet Scent. And yeah! Oddish, Gloom, Vileplume, Bellossom, and Tropius AFAIK are the only ones around who can learn Sweet Scent. But, they do not seem to be like a legion who can stop the crisis.
I think psychics may do since I've seen a lot of Psychic-types Pokemon existing in Heiwa. They can use psychic powers also to calm and to know how it really began. Well, Xatu and Gardevoir are the only psychics I know who are more adapt on sensing emotions. I'm sure it will do. Wait a minute! I'm the Flying-type Gym Leader. What am I doing here? Haha! Let's just say I'm a kind, sort of a plain strategist. |
The rangers can probably use a bunch of different ideas to solve the problem. They are aware that isolating Pokémon from the psychic influence long enough to break its hold works, and they know disrupting the psychic energy works. So I'm thinking- Sweet Scent/Sleep Powder/Cotton Spore/Spore etc to deal with actively rampaging Pokémon, any shield/energy disruption/status lifting/field protecting moves to break the influence? Thinking like Mist, Haze, Light Screen, Heal Bell, Aromatherapy, Defog, Misty Terrain. All the rangers in the different areas have different ways of combating this and they work with different Pokémon depending on what they have and which are around. And it's going to be a huge mass effort at first for a week or so, but there will def be misc Pokémon that didn't get fixed so the rangers will be working for a while on this. But they know how to deal with any reports, so yay!
|
Whimsicott, Gardevoir and Florges could all help stop the Pokémon! Any Gym Leader that can help out in some way should, as we have a responsibility too!

So this will be our plan of action! Our Grass and Bug-type Gym Leaders Sam and Titheo (doge and eros) will bring together as many Bug/Grass Pokémon as they can. Any trainers (known or otherwise), with the help of the Leaders and the Rangers will send a coordinated Sweet Scent and Spore (or Sleep Powder) combination attack at any enraged Pokémon region-wide. Our Flying Gym Leader Caelum, along with any other trainers that posses Flying Pokémon, will be responsible for transporting the incapacitated Pokémon to the nature preserve/Ranger headquarters on (unnamed) Island, marked by the number 9 on the region map. Good luck people! Now a question on how you want this to play out. If you guys don't feel like doing anything specific, Mr. Garnet can just release a special edition of the Heiwa Herald describing how things turn out. But, I could also try and think some kind of interactive challenge for those interested (maybe something on the battle server or a game we play by talking on Skype). Let me know what you think! :) |
An interactive challenge would be great. I'll do what I can to stop the rampaging Pokémon!
