Friends, Followers, blah blah
We all can accept that basically everyone is in to some form of social media these days. so I've recently gotten into this instagram thing and it's not that bad but I just don't understand how someone can become obsessed with it. for example a person has over a thousand followers and they go insane when they lose one.
I just don't really get it. what are your thoughts on having a lot of followers on any type of social media site? How do you feel about people who are REALLY into it, how about the ones who aren't? |
I have like over 1,000 followers on Tumblr since my account started actively posting in 2013. I feel like this year has seen what was my biggest surge in follower count to date in my time on the site, but I don't go all too crazy over followers unlike some people who are usually proud of them.
|
How do you even get so many followers? For Twitter I just follow people I know and they follow me back or vice versa. lol
I'm content with that. Tumblr I only got like, 34 or so, and only two of them are actual friends lol. |

I had someone pose with the coffee I just made them so she could instagram it. She took a couple more photos of it when I set it down on the counter, where she told me she had over 10,000 followers, or whatever they're called. I don't mind social media, but when your life revolves around it that much, there's an issue.
|
my original Tumblr before deletion had 3,400+ followers, and i did actually really like having that amount so i understand the hype.
being somewhat popular on a shitty blogging website can be pretty fun. it's not necessarily the number that's a big deal to people, but the fact that everything you post garners a decent amount of attention. that's where the kicker is. |
i had like 22k on tumblr before i deleted in 2014 lmao
i totally understand the pull and why having followers is such a big deal to some people and why they feel they should exhibit particular behaviours in order to get more i don't think it's such a big deal that it should genuinely worry people but naturally that depends on how much hold social media has over a person's life and what is being gained vs lost i just liked being funny and having a good taste in cinema/fashion/art and apparently people wanted to engage in that so go me for having a taste that people actively enjoyed and wanted to reflect into their own platforms |
I'm on facebook. I have never ever posted there and honestly can't say I give a fuck about it.
|
I haven't been a part of social media since Myspace was a thing if that says anything lol. Just not for me I suppose :x
|
LOL was Myspace ever a thing?
jk |
I don't really think too much of it.. especially on sites like tumblr that have a lot of bot accounts. I posted a few cute Pokemon fanart images there before (with credit, of couse) and got 20 followers in 15 minutes which seemed like a lot for to rack up on an account that was unused just 30 minutes ago. People are interested in the silliest things and I wouldn't feel proud if I instagram'd a photo of my lunch and got 1k likes. It's an achievement to someone but not to me. xD
Luckily most of my 120ish twitter followers are actually friends/acquaintances. The bots or follow spammers who follow hundreds of people and hope we'll follow back all unfollow within a day or two when they notice I don't return the follow, ha. |
i have almost 70,000 tumblr followers coz #fame
|
I think It's kinda, sorta, almost, really pathetic. .

All the mentions of 1,000+ followers I'm like, "how you guys got those followers?" haha.
I admit for a while I got upset I didn't have as much followers as some of my peers (I have less than 200). Made me think I'm not that interesting. For the most part I'm fine with having followers mostly my close friends, though. |
It's good to see the are still people who's life isn't completely wrapped up in social media and it's good to see both sides of the extreme hahaha. pretty cool insight from everyone
|
there are two kinds of social media people
people who post for likes/favorites/retweets/reblogs people who post for themselves you will learn the difference |
I have 2,845 followers on tumblr, which is pretty good imo considering I post once a month and I don't post any of my own gifs anymore. I don't really care about tumblr followers anymore, the only place where I'd like more is instagram because a lot of people I know have 400 and I probably don't even know 400 people with instagram lmao
|
Someone once told me "Your Facebook is what you use to put an open image of who you are to the world and your workplace etc. Your twitter is what you hope they won't find." Even considering how open my Facebook is, I'm still fairly selective with who I accept there. (222) As for my Twitter/Tumblr they're both 62/38 followers respectively. But those followers are people I do genuinely like and like to share myself with. I don't really mind too much when it comes to reaching some mass audience? I have been tempted to make more public accounts on the latter two just to see what the hype's all about but I haven't actually gone and done it yet!
|
I just post random ass thoughts on FB (whenever I'm too lazy to write 'em in my journal) so I can get them outta my head and focus on important stuff, like procrastinating on sleeping. I don't even have followers. Only validation-seeking noobs care about that kind of petty shit, anyway.
|
I have Facebook and Twitter and that's it. Not a lot of friends/followers on each, and I'm quite happy with it that way. I barely ever update them as it is - I mostly use them to keep up with friends.
|
I have all forms of social media. The only two I use though really are Facebook and Twitter. On Facebook, I have like 240 friends and on Twitter like 178 followers. Compared to others, not a lot. However, I like it. I wouldn't want too many followers/friends on social media. I feel like then I would always have to post and interact with them lol.
