Found a way to get rid of the search bar. Right click taskbar> Search > Hidden. One less nitpick to deal with!

Qibli July 29th, 2015 9:59 AM

I dare say I love to choose a lockscreen which suits nicely with me :3

I would love to upgrade to 10 but there are several things that are currently holding me back, chiefly these problematic wifi adapter issues that are being reported and whether or not it's possible to dual-boot Windows 10 on a Windows 8.1 machine. I don't want to inadvertently nuke the original OS, as I've done before in the jump from Vista to 7.

Qibli July 29th, 2015 10:35 AM

Is there someway disable aeroview on 10? The option seems grayed out

Qibli July 29th, 2015 10:51 AM

I guess I'm hopeless to turn off aeroview ;_;

What does everyone think about the new Microsoft Edge? What turns me off about it is the lack of adblock support, but I'll learn to deal. You can easily tell that it's a hell lot faster (and less of a hogger) than Chrome.

Tsutarja July 29th, 2015 12:23 PM

The upgrade still hasn't appeared for me...weird.

Anyways, I'm gonna do a system image of my laptop now before I begin the upgrade, that way I can always restore if something goes wrong.

Hasn't appeared for me either, but apparently it's a staggered release so not everyone gets it at the same time.

e: Checked my recent updates, there's a failed one labelled "upgrade to windows 10 home". I dunno where to go from here, but you might want to check that.

Run an admin command prompt and type wuauclt.exe/updatenow and see if you can get it that way

So Windows 10 really fucked up my computer. I kept getting a blue screen with the error "INTERNAL_POWER_ERROR". The solution to that seems to have been disabling all my graphics drivers... sigh. I also have a black bar on the bottom of the screen covering up a third of the taskbar.

Necrum July 29th, 2015 12:43 PM

Currently about halfway done downloading the upgrade! Can't wait to get it installed!

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics drivers, by any chance?

I would like to. I just am not sure how I would go about doing that.

Go into your device manager and right click, you'll see an option to uninstall. then right click and scan for hardware changes.

Oh, that's all it took? Thanks. I was already about to try that. :)

EDIT: Updating the drivers seems to fixed the problems I was having. :) :) :)

Tried that, nothing happened.

@Team Fail: I was going to try the manual update earlier, but it wasn't working for me and it seems to be a bit of a hassle. Thanks though.

Never mind! Cleared out C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and it's started. Thanks for the help.

Meganium July 29th, 2015 1:38 PM

Yeah, guys...be sure you update EVERYTHING on your computer (that means windows update, as well as any drivers that are out of date). Out-dated drivers are usually the main reason why upgrade installations fail.

Also, back up your stuff too before jumping on. It's a rarity to lose things during installation, but you do want to be on the safe side.

Tsutarja July 29th, 2015 1:50 PM

My system image is nearing completion (and it hasn't even been an hour yet!), so I could be on track to begin installation tonight ^^ yay!!

Qibli July 29th, 2015 2:32 PM

I did gave it a click, but won't budge

Necrum July 29th, 2015 2:44 PM

Windows Update has failed me so I'm using the tool now instead.

Windows Update wasn't working for me either, but one thing I did was ensure that I wasn't using any custom DNS servers, and somehow that worked for me.

Drogan July 29th, 2015 2:56 PM

I have it reserved and am currently waiting for my update to be available for me.

Sylphiel July 29th, 2015 3:02 PM

Earlier I was all like, okay, why not go upgrade now--
Wait no never mind I still have to wait for my turn to get it.

:T

And I know about the one thing, but I really don't care that much about it to make it update. I can be patient in regards to this. I wouldn't be installing it until later anyway.

I think right now I'll at least go back up the stuff I really want to keep, just in case.

Palkia July 29th, 2015 3:06 PM

Installed it on both my desktop PC and my laptop and have had zero issues with drivers, but had to use the download tool on my laptop as I wasn't able to pre-load on it.

Highly recommended update, performance hasn't changed one bit and the new Start menu is less obtrusive than the old screen. The directx 12 support should be important for gaming in the future as well, should go well with the graphics card I'm planning to get soon for my desktop.

I used Microsoft Edge to reinstall Google Chrome and that's truly the epitome of my Windows browser experience lmao

I made a comment last night about how the mouse seems to be rather glitchy compared to Windows 8.1 a couple of hours earlier and it's definitely not me being a technohypochondriac, it slips around a lot more and alternates between stiffness/limberness without any warning, plus it's developed a habit of being frustrating with clicking onto tabs and then dragging them out of the main browser.
