Is wonder trade dead?

Hello everyone, Jux here. I took a break from Pokemon for about a month to play LoZ: Link between two worlds. Now that I beat the game, I wanted to get back into battling and trading. I went into wonder trade and tried to trade my level 100 sandslashes out for the world. Yet, each and every time I tried to wonder trade, I can't seem to find other traders. It's also WTW, so I figured that everyone would be trading. What gives?

Sydian July 29th, 2015 5:36 PM

I dunno, I was Wonder Trading today and got some cool stuff like Klefki and a Phanpy with nice egg moves. I never once was unable to find partners...maybe you just picked a bad time? :<

Sun July 29th, 2015 5:58 PM

I'm wondering 'bad time' as Syd says. It happens from time to time. I wouldn't be surprised if WT's drying up though, given the lack of post-game contents in all Gen VI games, it's bound to end up like that.

Fun Size July 29th, 2015 6:17 PM

When Wonder Trading first started up, it was a huge hit since it was a new shiny feature, but since it's been 2 years since it was first introduced I can see it dying down a bit.

Fourth The Tyrant July 29th, 2015 6:27 PM

I find that it's usually lively, but when WTW rolls around, it starts acting up. Can't find partners, or communication fails. Any other time I try, it works fine. I dunno. It only ever fails on WTW for me.

Nurse Joy July 30th, 2015 9:25 AM

Getting no partner hasn't happened to me since before ORAS. However, there's never really anything good on it. The only cool thing I've ever got was a shiny lv.100 Kyogre when I was doing a wonderlocke (which I still can't believe), but usually it's zigzagoons and wurmples. Occasionally you'll get something cool like a Houndoom or Pokemon with Pokerus, but I don't think people are really into it as they used to be. I always forget it exists haha

Esper July 30th, 2015 10:23 AM

When I (infrequently) play ORAS I'll sometimes WT anything I have sitting around like Pokemon I used for breeding that I don't think I need anymore (never Zigzagoon or Wurmple though) and I almost always connect fine. Usually I get something not terrible, too, like Pokemon with good stats or egg moves or high levels.

Connor July 30th, 2015 11:47 AM

Every once and a while I will get that problem. But you would think it would be much more active because of WTW. I think my problem is that I play at weird times of the day, thanks to my odd work schedule.

SleepyTrainer July 30th, 2015 12:12 PM

The only times when I fail to find a trade partner, is when I have connection issues.

jessluvstolaugh July 30th, 2015 4:34 PM

I agree that wonder trade used to be a huge hit with a wider variety of pokemon but now it seems like no one uses it anymore. I still use it because I'm trying to complete my Pokedex and I love surprises!!!!

Blueredemption July 30th, 2015 5:21 PM

When i was breeding last month i wonder traded all of the spitbacks from my previous projects. Activity was spotty, depending on what i believe was the time of day. I got a bunch of good iv and even some shinies, so i think if people are patient enough they can still score big sooner or later.

starseed galaxy auticorn July 31st, 2015 2:31 PM

I don't think I've ever had any issues with Wonder Trade. I do agree, it takes a lot of time and patience. I don't always get a rare pokemon. When I do use it, I just do to get some pokemon I can use for new games. Just now, I got a shiny Jirachi while I was posting this!

Altairis August 3rd, 2015 2:06 PM

Wonder trade seems to die infrequently. I don't think there's a pattern, but I know there were a couple Wednesdays where there was maintenance or a system issue, but I believe it's resolved now.

Lapis August 5th, 2015 5:45 PM

Sometimes I'll have issues finding a partner, but that has happened even before ORAS. It feels like such a slap in the face. ;3;

Ryumie August 9th, 2015 10:19 PM

Well, I also haven't played in a while, but in X/Y it only happened to me once, it was unable to find partners, I tried again, and again, then it found, then it was unable... After some time it returned to normal. I hope it doesn't end like that cause I have tons of pokémon to spread and once in a while there are some cool egg moves or HA I don't have yet in the middle of ordinary Route 101 ones.

Jaizu August 10th, 2015 6:33 AM

Isn't dead. People use it to send their lv1 Pokémon without the best NATURE, so you can use it to complete your Dex easily. Even when some people only send Poochyenas and that stuff but well, you can't always win. I love to send Buizels 8)

Wuchuhurd August 10th, 2015 11:44 AM

In the month of July there were 3 Wednesday's in a row where the servers were having trouble because of the amount of wonder trading. It actually forced Nappy (the person credited for the WTW) to move to Fridays (WTF lol) if im not mistaken

Geltza August 13th, 2015 2:01 PM

I don't think I've ever had a problem finding someone to trade on Wonder trade. Finding GOOD people to trade on Wonder trade however sometimes can be a hassle haha. Some days I'll get really good stuff then the other days I'll get a lot of starting route rubbish!

LadyNapalm August 13th, 2015 3:29 PM

I've never really used Wonder Trade all that much, though I did when I played a Wonderlocke run of X last year.

I didn't get many good mons besides the occasional Froakie that didn't the right ability

event pokemons cant be wonder traded so it cant be true they have ta certain ribbon if they are real that prevent them from being traded in wt and gts

Well, I think it was hacked... but it still makes me wonder how. I tried transferring my hacked legends from Black/White series, and they got deleted. :/ I don't know if power save might have something to do with the Jirachi being hacked. *shrug* I still kept it though. I wanted a Jirachi, and I got one. That's all that matters to me.

Anyway, I haven't wonder traded in a long time. I usually do it when I'm after new pokemon I don't have or for restarts if I can get all the ones I need for a good team.

junochoi August 23rd, 2015 7:58 PM

I traded recently in the wonder trade and there is no problem

Caite-chan August 24th, 2015 2:10 AM

Well I Wonder Trade WAAAAY to much...lol. I'll get the We couldn't find you a trade partner every so often. I always have good luck at about 3AM EDT because it's the middle of the night for me but Japan is active and I always seem to get my shiny Pokemon during that time.

CountessGardevoir August 25th, 2015 12:26 PM

All dead, all dead

Dedenne1 August 25th, 2015 3:03 PM

I stopped wondertrading awhile ago but ik cause my friend does Wondertrading wednesdays and loves to text me what shinies he got its not dead pllus what happended happens to everyone from time to time just a low amount of activity lately it may be dying out slowly though.

Poké Bean September 1st, 2015 4:47 PM

I've never heard of Wonder Trading Wednesdays! What's that all about? (Aside from the obvious!)

I used to Wonder Trade a lot, for the fun and to get the IDs for the Lottery, but I'm too scared to now after hearing horror stories of people's games getting corrupted!

Benamon September 1st, 2015 5:03 PM

I don't think I've ever had my game corrupted, is there something I didn't hear about?
I've wonder traded a ton and gotten some pretty sweet Pokemon out of it.

Kotone September 1st, 2015 5:32 PM

i haven't done any wonder trading yet in alpha sapphire. my bf did and he got a staryu. i thought that was cool xD

Rest assured, they aren't true. Those stories come from people, who try to scare people, so they stop WTing all these early game rodents. If there was an actual way to corrupt the save file through WTing, we'd know about it and more importantly, GF would be forced to do something about it.

Deadalexman September 3rd, 2015 9:11 AM

i never use wonder trade so i don't know

Geltza September 4th, 2015 1:32 AM

I've been doing a play-through where I'm kind of role-playing within the roleplay and there was a part in the story where my character discovered wondertrade. So I went to wondertrade praying that I didn't get any of the starting route fodder, totally breaking the immersion! (Yes, I'm sad like that) and I ended up getting a level 17 Combusken. I picked Treecko as my starter so I was pleased with this. So I guess you still can get good things through it! Who sends a Combusken though? Haha. I mean level 1 Torchic or Level 100 Blaziken, but Combusken? Weird!

Raythegamer September 19th, 2015 4:06 PM

I think it's because of the lame offers Wonder Trade is not that popular.I usually use the Global Trade and it actually has pretty good offers(like a level 71 Mewtwo for a level 79 Mewtwo)

magicalgirlj September 23rd, 2015 4:34 PM

So far no problems wonder trading in my copy of Alpha Sapphire. I did a wonder trade today a little bit ago and got a Charmander from a guy in Portugal.

Giga Wurmple September 24th, 2015 12:14 AM

Been wondertrading a lot over the last few days. I've had maybe three "not found a trading partner"; about 50% of zigzagoons, poochyenas, caterpies and ralts; 50% other things, including some pokemon I have never encountered before. Wondertrade is certainly not dead.

Last night I got the same mix as above but also three shinies! Looks like Wondertrade Wednesdays is still going strong too!

Admison October 18th, 2015 6:28 PM

Wonder Trade has definitely died down a lot since it was first released. I used to never have the problem of not finding a problem, and even though it's only occasionally, sometimes I can go two or three times without a partner. I have to say, though, since Wonder Trade has died down, I've had a lot more luck finding some pretty cool Pokémon. I've even gotten a shiny once or twice. :)

DarkSkys October 18th, 2015 9:15 PM

Either I get what I'm looking for or Pokémon I don't need. Though, I did get a Dialga the other day which was a shock. But mostly I WT my breed jects hopefully getting something with egg moves.

Bounsweet November 15th, 2015 4:18 PM

Try using it on Wednesday. A lot of people do "Wonder Trade Wednesday" where they give out a lot of Pokémon who have been bred to have high IVs and even shinies, I think some people on Twitch even stream when they're WTing their shinies and whatnot too.

However, it's kinda expected to be used less as the amount of people playing Pokémon starts to dwindle. It'll pick up again when Z version (or whatever) gets released - even maybe when it's announced, since I know some people like to breed some Pokémon in preparation for a new game.

Firox November 15th, 2015 9:21 PM

I still use Wonder Trade - many repeated Pokemon I don't like I seem to get a lot, once in a while I'll get some with hilarious nicknames.

As for myself:
When I breed, the so called 'breed rejects' with bad natures & ability I don't WT, I just release them. Normally for me it's about 2/3rds of the eggs.
With my remainders, I'll breed an entire box - the ones with correct nature and ability - I will save 6 for GTS and the other 24 I will Wonder Trade, but I'll make sure to give them an item (such as a Full Restore).

Witchcraft November 15th, 2015 10:01 PM

I noticed it as well.
Now, I'm a night owl in the United States, so since most people in the US are asleep, it could be taking away from the population on Wonder Trade.
However, I've always been on the night schedule. And it's only recently that I've been getting long waits for a trade partner, so, yeah. I'd say WT is dying down.

Rourke November 16th, 2015 4:40 AM

Occasionally I just trade a lot of Pokemon I got two or more of. About 10 or so, and just see what it turns out to be. And I have to say it works pretty well for me usually. I got a lot of Pokemon that I didn't catch yet, and the waiting times are really acceptable (about 10-15 seconds). But I live in Europe, not sure if that makes a difference.

NinjaRaichu November 17th, 2015 12:48 PM

I dont think its dead, people have sent lame first route pokemon from since it started. But Wednesday's are the only days I really get anything decent.

The best time to wonder trade on a Wednesday is at the time big streamers/youtubers do theirs as people will send good Pokemon hoping they will get seen on stream. :)

Sopheria November 17th, 2015 6:23 PM

Hm, I can't speak from experience on this, since I don't Wondertrade often. But I do it from time to time, and I've never been unable to find traders. I think it's only natural it would go a bit dead in comparison to when OR/AS or X/Y first came out--there hasn't been much of anything new happening in the main series lately, so not as much people are playing them :c But, there's still Wondertrade Wednesdays which a lot of well-known Youtubers do, and it's not uncommon for avid breeders to send off their spare Pokemon via Wondertrade, so I'd say it's still alive and well :P

And like Hikari said, it's sure to pick up when Z comes out!

Mawa November 18th, 2015 1:11 PM

I am gonna trade soon, because I have to do a big clean up in my boxes. Last time I checked, I couldn't find a partner maybe like every 3 turns, but I tried again and then it worked. Maybe yeah you don't have as many stuff as before, but I don't think it is totally dead. I'm gonna trade my breeding projects so be prepare, Wonder Trade!

Grym21 November 29th, 2015 6:02 AM

Hmm, weird, never had a slow WT session.I've literally spent over a hundred hours in WT and I've gotten pokemon from your everyday normals to shiny legendaries. People say the best time to WT is a bit past midnight because Japan is active during that time and they trade the best pokemon. Most of my shinies seem to be from Japan.

Pendraflare November 29th, 2015 6:16 AM

Well I still get good stuff off of Wonder Trade (looks at getting two shinies on Thanksgiving), even if the garbage is abundant. Not to mention the aforementioned Wonder Trade Wednesdays, which Marriland has been streaming again. So i'm sure Wonder Trade won't be out of steam for a ways to go, even if right now it isn't in full swing.

Leviathan November 30th, 2015 2:47 AM

Dead you say? Hmm. Maybe I oughta see for myself. Never really used Wondertrade, but if it is dying down already, it's gonna be awkward getting rid of all these reject 'mons I have leftover from breeding.

Smiffy01 December 1st, 2015 8:32 AM

It doesn't seem dead to me, I mean I've had the game since release (28th Nov 2014) and ONLY JUST discovered wonder trading like two days ago haha, majority of traders seem to be from the US or japan, only found one person who traded and was in the UK like myself, I think its brilliant

Kaiyu December 1st, 2015 9:12 PM

Wonder Trade for me is active. I'm getting Pokémon from everywhere. Most of the time I'm getting Pokémon from either France or Italy. I rarely get Pokémon from Japan or Korea which I think is weird.

magicalgirlj December 3rd, 2015 3:36 PM

So far only in Pokemon X, I could not find a trade partner once. But when I did a WT in Alpha Sapphire a few hours later I did one with no problems

Katchelina December 5th, 2015 1:53 PM

I use wondertrade to clean out my boxes after breeding(ony pokemon with almost the ivs I wanted or with their hidden abilities, egg moves, never random early game pokes). I have gotten some shinies, legends, and good iv, nature, egg move pokemon that I often use later for my own breedig. If I get a good pokemon I don't need I'll wondertrade it again. I release all zigzagoon, poochyena, wurmple, froakie(so many starters in there in my experience). I rarely don't find a partner but I have occasionally had that issue even before Oras.

The Evil Mewtwo December 6th, 2015 1:09 AM

I don't know because I have not used Wonder Trade before.

acatfrommars December 31st, 2015 12:43 AM

I haven't been able to play the new games in a while, and I know that wonder trade is not dead and will probably never die (...for like 8 years at least or unless Nintendo shuts it off). It was one of my favorite things to do in X/Y and OR/AS and I'm sure it is for many others as well. Even though most of the time you'll get useless stuff, there's always the hope of getting that one cool Pokemon and that keeps people going.
