Beginner Help for making a Pokémon Game

Hi everyone,

I'd like to make my own pokemon game, a NDS (DP/P/HGSS/BW/B2W2) hack to be exact. But unfortunatly I haven't found good tutorials for NDS hacking. Almost all the tutorials are still for GBA Hacks. I'm completly new to this but I hope to learn it faster than finding a zubat in the dark cave, haha!

Some Questions i'd like to ask:
  • Is there a prefered game to hack? For example: "is pokemon white easier to hack than pokemon pearl?"
  • Which tools are needed? I want to make a entirely new region with new people, tiles, storyline, events,etc... (So I guess those are some mapping tools, scripting tools,...)
  • Is there any of you who knows a good tutorial for me to learn from?

I'm really eager to make one https://gbatemp.net/styles/default/gbatemp/smileys/smile.png

Anyway, thanks for reading!

Sigh... DS hacking... If you're a beginner, I would not recommend hacking DS games. They're just... Complicated. Read this, and this. If you are hacking GBA games (which are MUCH more beginner friendly) I would suggest firered or emerald. However, if you HAVE to hack DS games for some reason, I wouldn't recommend hacking diamond or pearl. Those games are just EXTREMELY slow.

Thanks! And yes i knew that from the beginning...but it just doesn't interest me because there are TONS of GBA hacks but almost no DS hacks. I think i'll use white 2 as my base or hearthold. I'm going to see this as a challenge, which will be tough but i think i can pull it off. Thank you for those links, i'll check them ASAP.

The reason there are so many GBA hacks is because it's arguably the easiest to hack. The reason there are about 5 DS hacks (they're just hard hacks, no new region or anything. There are probably not even any map edits, thanks to 3d modeling) is because they're really hard to hack and not beginner friendly at all. There is an extreme lack of research to, and unless you're a hardcore researcher (which you're not, you're just a beginner) that matters.

Alright, thanks. So I guess it is better to wait when there are more "friendly" tools to start with?

Probably what you should do. However, if you're trying to be unique, you could hack gold or red or something.

Ok, i'll try that. I may want to add that I have 3d modeling skills, but it's just hard to find a good tutorial :/ I think if someone with a lot of experience of gen IV/V hacking made a good tutorial on it, more and more people would get the hang of it and more and more tools would pop up, no? :)
