What's one thing you would change about or add to the main series Pokemon games to make them more challenging?
probably make the pokemon higher than level 100. i think that would be insane battling the elite four and the champion.

Wow, some great answers on this one! Lots of stuff that I never even thought about c:

Question of the Day

What's a feature of one of the older main series Pokemon games you'd like to see brought back?

DraconianWing October 5th, 2015 7:58 PM

The Key system from BW2, which allows the player to select a difficulty through an IR connection with another player's cartridge (assuming they have them unlocked). Not only does this add replay value, it also makes the game more flexible to fit a wider range of skill levels; this way, beginners won't feel overwhelmed, and veterans can still expect a challenge even after finishing the game. Why Game Freak decided to get rid of this feature, nobody knows. I thought it was a pretty nifty feature.

Challege Medals from BW2. Trophies! I'm primarily a Sony gamer and, whilst I did NOT approve of BW2's crappy multiplayer funtions, I did like the idea of medals, and I would love to see them done properly (i.e. without trashy multiplayer ones that are damn near impossible to achieve) in a future game!

Diffuclty system like the ones on BW/BW2 where IR need to adjust the levels and stuffs, Walking with pokemon (HG/SS), BW/BW2 Medal System and perhaps memory link from BW2

I want the battle frontier back with some improvements!Man that battle frontier was really exciting!

It would be cool to walk with Pokemon again, like in HG/SS, especially now that the games are 3D!

I have an idea similar to Ketsu, setting a Level cap, as well as acting similarly to Battle Facility battles -- No level ups, trainers not allowed to use items, no more than 2 same Pokémon/items etc.

Have you ever run out of PP and had to use Struggle during a battle?

I did with my Magikarp when it was battling Blue's Abra! It was like the epic match of Pokémon history!

Laguna October 6th, 2015 2:41 AM

Pokémon following you around like in Yellow and HG/SS! It was the cutest thing ever.

I pretty much have the same answer as Laguna. When Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver came out it was literally the bomb. Having a Pokémon follow you is pretty cool and you can directly talk to them and know what they think and feel about you. The PokéWalker was also cool and it motivated me to actually walk out of the house and being able to encounter Pokémon you could encounter earlier than usual was a cool feature. And something else I also want that has been missing since Gen V, having the Safari Zone and a Game Corner THAT HAS SLOT MACHINES!

I don't understand why they took out what Laguna mentioned? It was awesome and pretty much every one reacted extremely well to it! I mean, why take out something that sells? :P

Other than that, mining :P I really, really liked mining in Sinnoh and it was awesome operating an underground with traps and stuff xD Man, when I first played Pearl, it really did provide me with hours of fun, I just couldn't stop! :P

Definitely the PokeWalker by far. And I hate to sound cliche but the Battle Frontier as well as the old Game Corner (like who cares if it's 'gambling', it's just a game. -.-)

//isn't even wearing rose-tinted glasses but has to beg the question of why Game Freak makes dumb decisions to remove as what has been mentioned as stuff that sells

If Pokemon game have gambling, then it's not rated E on some rating section and would be classified another rating. like how japanese HGSS was replaced with Voltorb flip.

The whole Pokewalker feature set. This includes both the device and Pokemon walking outside of their Pokeballs. Imagine if they integrated this into Pokemon Go as well!

What's a feature of one of the older main series Pokemon games you'd like to see brought back?:
I would want to be able to have a Pokemon follow me around just like in the Johto games. I loved fishing and having an exclamation mark appear over my Pokemon's head as they helped me land a Pokemon. I also wish that they would keep the PokeNav feature for future games. Never has any game feature motivated me to catch so many Pokemon. I've always wanted to fill the Pokedex, but I've never gotten as close to doing so as I have by completing every area on the PokeNav.

I really liked the idea of the Pokewalker in Heart Gold/Soul Silver, even though I didn't use it much it promoted activity and was pretty fun to mess with!

I remember in Hoenn that there was Rental Battles. Those were actually really cool in Sapphire and Ruby.

agreed. i want pokemon to be able to walk around with me!

I guess the Vs. Seeker, to name one. Even though ORAS had the Trainer's Eyes, let's hope that Z or whatever we get next will have something for consistent trainer rematching.

Oh, and I would also like Generation V's EXP system, too.

Sopheria October 6th, 2015 7:59 PM

I'd also like to see the Gen V exp system brought back. It was really nice how your exp gain was scaled based on the relative difference between you and the opponent. Gave you more incentive to try and fight stronger opponents.

Also, I miss the game corner too :c I get that they can't have gambling in the games and maintain the E rating, but they could at least bring back Voltorb Flip. I mean, that's not even gambling, there's actually skill involved -_-

Question of the Day

What's an aspect of the games that you've always found to be difficult or challenging?

Mainly collecting Pokémon and Battle Facility challenges. Collecting Pokémon is fun and satisfying, while BF can be interesting for the most of time.

Having the patience to "catch 'em all" I suppose. Except for in the beginning I haven't found Pokemon challenging at all, but I'm not a very patient person by nature, and once I've finished the story of a game I tend to move immediately on to the next one unless the postgame is compelling enough to keep me playing. Pokemon's postgame has never been that compelling, so sticking with it to finish the dex has always been a challenge...one I've not always risen to.

Imperator161 October 6th, 2015 10:42 PM

Honestly, not much in Pokemon seems challenging anymore, so I'll go with something that is more of a psychological barrier for me rather than actually difficult. I guess the thing that is probably the most "challenging" (and frustrating) for me is settling on a starter with the stats (and nature, from gen III onward) that I'm happy with. While I didn't originally worry about this, it now eats up far more of my time than it should, to the point where I dread the very start of the game. I also hate doing that for legendaries or events.

In games that have them, the battle facilities can be challenging (and frustrating, when it seems like luck just won't go your way and you have to start all over again).

To me, Battle facilities are rather challenging, you can't just all-out offense and you have to balance out with perfect EV/IV and egg moves if you want to win win and partners are not always reliable option and depended on. Completing pokedex have it's pros and cons such case get version exclusives mons from another version may required in order to complete the pokedex and it is fun to get different forme and shiny.

(sorry I'm a little late updating the post count, guys! I had meant to update them last night. I just updated them now. You guys are doing awesome ^^ )

You're right >_< It takes a lot of time and patience. The hardest time I've always had with completing the Dex is getting all the event Pokemon--if you miss out on one your only option is to either trade for it, or wait for the next event, and who knows when that will be -_-

I've never paid a whole lot of attention to stats outside of competitive play, but it is a little tough that IVs and natures are pretty much random, so it's tough getting the ones you want. There's always breeding though, right? c: (which unfortunately is still a little random)

And yes, I can't count how many times I've gone through one of the battle facilities and got a good streak going, only for it to be broken by one unlucky turn of events :( It takes so much time to progress through them, so it stinks when you have to start from scratch.

Yea, you've got to play a little smarter in the battle facilities--the all-out offensive strategy only seems to work during the main playthrough xD

For me, I'd say the toughest things about the games are completing the Pokedex, and breeding. Both take a lot of time and patience. I spend a lot of time breeding for a competitive team, and it takes a lot of attempts to get the perfect IV'd Pokemon. I'm attempting to complete the Pokedex currently in Omega Ruby, and it's a pretty slow process once you've caught all the Pokemon there are to catch. Now I just need to evolve a bunch of them, trade for the version exclusives, and get ahold of some of the events that I missed out on -_-
