The Delta Episode

So in Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, after defeating the champion you can start the Delta Episode. For those of you who don't know, the Delta Episode is a side quest that involves stopping a meteorite on a collision course with the planet.

What are your thoughts on the Delta Episode? Did you enjoy it? Would you like to see similar episodes in future games? Discuss!

Sopheria October 4th, 2015 12:06 PM

Ah, the Delta Episode, what an epic episode it was ^^ I thought it was really neat to see something like this in a Pokemon game--it's really unique and not quite like anything we've seen in a Pokemon game so far. Zinnia is a great character, it was really cool going into space, and the battle with Deoxys is epic!

My one criticism would be that it's a little too dialog heavy, and there's a little too much running around from one place to another just to go through one dialog to another. But that's made pretty easy with soaring and the Eon Flute, so it's not a huge criticism. I'd love to see something else like it in future games!

The only problem I had was after you caught Deoxys. The guy at the space center asked you to gather more research on Deoxys. Couldn't be done. As for the episode itself. To me if was a bit short.

Qibli October 4th, 2015 3:24 PM

Short, but very sweet and enjoyable than looker on XY.

Urist McHemlock October 4th, 2015 4:06 PM

I actually liked the Delta Episode. It was short, but it was really fun going on a goose chase. Then again, mess with Rayquaza, and you are already dead.

Kotone October 4th, 2015 7:47 PM

i just finished the delta episode last night. i thought it would be way longer, but it was cute. ester!

Hikamaru October 5th, 2015 8:52 AM

Like Jinx said, the Delta Episode was short but it was great to see an actual story unfold in the postgame for a change. It was what wanted to keep me playing until that bad corruption that hit me.

I'm pretty sure that's just flavor text, but now that you mention it, that would be neat if you could actually could continue the Delta Episode by gathering more research on Deoxys ^^ Like perhaps the more you travel around with Deoxys in your party, the more you gather research on it, or something like that.

Or the fact that the Meteorites change its form.

Nolafus October 6th, 2015 7:38 PM

I thought it was great until Deoxys struggled and died before I caught it, and I realized I hadn't saved in three hours.

Sun October 9th, 2015 2:33 AM

It is nice and short, but not great. I prefer a post-game content rather than a post-game story.

Ryz October 9th, 2015 2:43 AM

It was awesome. My favorite part was the music when you go to space. Every time I play OR/AS I always look forward to the music. I hope they add more stuff like this. Make the games a bit longer. The fact that most pokemon games take 10 hours to beat is crazy. They should take a page from games like Glazed and Zeta/Omicron that take over 24 hours just to beat the story.
When I played Glazed my game time at the end was 26hours I believe. On Zeta my game time after the story was over 30. I wish GameFreak would make a game with two regions.

You can battle Deoxys again. After you beat the E4 for the second time if you go to the Spear Pillar the triangle is there and you can battle it again.

Really? Then my one problem with The Delta episode, that you couldn't save between the fights with Rayquaze and Deoxys, is not that much of a problem anymore. Overall I thought it was awesome with the story and the meteorite and Rayquaza and stuff. I like when there is a little more to do after the Elite-Four, it gives a less generic ending to the game.

Yeah I agree. I'm glad they changed it up. Like all there is to do after E4 is catch legendaries, find shines, and complete the pokedex.
On the thing about not being able to save, that does really suck.

Ughhh I hate Zinnia. She's easily one of my least favorite characters in the entire Pokémon franchise. Such an obnoxious and overbearing character, the Delta Episode would have been much more enjoyable if they had a different character. Plus there was the flaw of Rayquaza and Deoxys being back-to-back fights. I think it was a really cool concept to add for post-game, but it felt so rushed and really just ugh.

Yea, I didn't care much for the back-to-back legendary encounters. Especially given how unexpected the Deoxys battle was. They could have at least given us a minute to prepare before we encounter Deoxys :c At least they give us the opportunity to try capturing it again though c:

It was... fun enough. A bit short and dialogue heavy as other people have said, and I would have liked a way to remind you what your next goal in the Delta Episode was (as I left the game partway through the Delta Episode and returned months later with no memory of what to do), but it was good overall.

I can definitely see that happening. If I hadn't done the entire Delta Episode in one go I probably would have lost my place too. Maybe next time GameFreak delivers something like this in a Pokemon game, we'll get something to help us remember where we are, such as a travel journal, or something to that effect. Hopefully.

I loved how the Delta Episode was something fresh for postgame content, since we never really had anything to do in postgame most of the time so to have a new plot unfold after beating the main story was something nice to see. The only negative thing I see was that it was too short, if it were longer it would have done better.

JJ Styles November 9th, 2015 8:31 AM

I remember pretty much sacrificing sleep just to finish this godawfully short but still sweet segment of the postgame. This delta episode made me see that the future pokemon game(s) can have the potential for some more in-depth post-game segments to help extend the game's lifespan. ORAS delta episode, I loved every minute of it.

It got me thinking though, Delta Episode.... DLC... Yep, DLC Episodes for the post-game. While that may sound like a money-grubbing corporate cash-in that many other companies might think about (coughcoughME3coughAsuraswrath) its a bizarre idea that popped into my head after experiencing it, DLC post-game content in a pokemon game.

ProfChaos November 9th, 2015 11:06 AM

I honestly thought it was pretty annoying and up to a certain point a little confusing. Very winded and so much backstory being crammed into a short side quest that had you running back and forth after this apparently unstoppable, random little girl trolling everyone in her path.

I think that could actually be a really good idea. I don't think DLC is necessarily always a bad thing, as long as it doesn't go too overboard. The Delta Episode shows us that little short quest based episodes can work quite well in the post-game, and if we got more of them like it over time as DLC, I don't think that'd be such a bad thing :)

Phillip_ November 26th, 2015 5:15 AM

Far too short and not that interesting to be considered a good addition to the game
At least it gives you a Rayquaza though.

Guest123_x1 December 15th, 2015 6:40 PM

Despite the hype about it, the Delta Episode plays through a bit short, but at least I felt it was fun. I, too, wasn't too crazy about having to battle two legendaries in a row (would be even worse if Rayquaza's catch rate was still 3 in ORAS, and you completely ran out of capture balls or lost all of your Pokémon trying to catch it), but hey, they say save your Master Ball for the ultimate Pokémon (in this case, Deoxys). Zinna was borderline annoying, especially when having to climb the Sky Pillar.
I, too, prefer post-game content to a storyline (though exploring Kanto in the Johto-based games was a storyline, there was much more to it than going through the Delta Episode.)

Kaiyu December 15th, 2015 11:55 PM

I thought it was interesting even though it was short. I had to use a walkthrough to help me out though. Catching Rayquaza took a while which kind of annoyed me. I used my Master Ball for Deoxys. I was going to use it for Rayquaza but changed my mind.

The Evil Mewtwo December 16th, 2015 4:05 AM

The Delta has a pretty good ending, it allows players to catch their own Deoxys without an event and there is some romance in the Mossdeep's Space Theatre. Finally, Rayaquza is easier to catch. I would like to see similar episodes in future pokemon games. That gives me an idea for my own pokemon game.

FioriKikuchi December 19th, 2015 10:54 AM

It was short but still enjoyed it. Zinnia was a pretty interesting character. At first I didn't like her very much but towards the end of it I started liking her. The ending to it was great but it made me kind of sad. :<

Reunilu December 22nd, 2015 3:36 PM

I quite liked it despite how short it was, but it makes me wonder where all that potential for interesting story telling was. I could use a different formula from the typical Pokemon game once in a while and I'm not too crazy about fangames. I thought Zinnia was overbearing at first, but then she turned out to be an... above average character. She has a good theme song, I'll give her that.

I have to agree that the developers should've given the player a small break between catching Rayquaza and catching Deoxys. I was losing my patience trying to catch Deoxys and I ended up using my Master Ball on it. That and I think I used my Master Ball on it because I had caught Rayquaza in a Premier Ball and I reeally didn't want to reset. That was a fun moment.

i caught my rayquaza in a repeat ball without having to use any other pokeball & just outright used a masterball on deoxyz. still got a masterball left thx to the lottery on my X version & i can use the GTS + some breedjects to send my other masterball i won from the lottery over at anytime.
i kinda hate how you have to complete this in order to get a second bike. whose wise idea was it to make that available only after you got that far? should have been able to get it when you got the eon flute, instead of placing the 3ed person in need of being advertised to in the battle resort

No Break? reminds me of X. I didn't have a chance to save before the Xerneas Battle. Luckily I caught it with my first ultra ball.

the game wouldn't have let you go forward til you caught it, as catching it was a requirement to pass that part of the story. it other words it would instantly re spawn if you fled or defeated it. i'm pretty sure the same mechanic is also on rayquaza & if you didn't catch deoxys, it will respawn after defeating the e4 again.

What if you have no poke balls?

you either have to flee or kill it, i'm pretty sure it lets you roam around the overworld rather then tapping you in an infinite loop, otherwise there would have been more then just that save issue flooding the web back when the games where initially released
