Just a Suggestion

Well, on a forum I used to go which now is not hosted anymore, they had Warning bars under their reputation levels. Those warning bars showed how many warnings you had and everything. And if a member did something really bad, someone could just click on the warning bar and request that that bad member get a warning. I don't know it you can add that on vBulletin, but it did help the higher staff and all keep track of how many warnings members had.
And if on the warning bar it showed three rep warning blocks, that member would get banned. It's just a suggestion and all, but is it possible to add that feature to PC?

I know that invisionfree forums have that. ^^; Anyways, we here at PC don't believe in the warning system (i.e. We don't have it. XD). ^o^ I can't remember the reason, Claire told me once, but I forget things easily. XD

I think it's kind of a nice idea, it certainly may help to keep unruly members in check, but we haven't ever had the warning system and I don't think we'll ever get it. ^^

I do think it's a good idea though, Mooney. <3~~~

yeah, I think it's just for the invision free forums... we just manually keep track of violators here...

Shikon no Tama April 7th, 2005 12:00 PM

Invisionfree has those systems, from what I know. Members on invisionfree always had to read the rules and stuff to make sure they wouldn't get warnings and stuff. Besides, I haven't gotten any screenshots or anything of what the warning system would look like or anything, and I heard haven't if vBulletin can have those kinda of features to it.

vB used to have a warning system. Back when I joined two years ago PC had a warning system with the bars under their avy and a link on a main page to show all the members that has warnings and how many everyone has. I know there is a hack somewhere for a warning system.
But I don't know how good it would go. If members could request a warning post added by clicking the point then there would be tons of n00bs and so on clicking warning posts just because the member made him/her mad.
But if it was just Staff then I wouldn't mind it. It would sure help and keep track of who has warnings and so on.

And this is what the warning thing on IF forums looks like.

If you are having a problem with a specific member, come to us, not them.It would just add. They are not allowed to question us, so it'll be much easier to solve it that way.

The warning bar would be a good idea...but members would use it quite often(likely) and we or the uppers would be filled. So I think it is best just to report it straight to a staff member ^^.

Timbjerr April 7th, 2005 5:15 PM

i'd like this idea, as long as only staf members are able to warn. I'm afraid that if members had access to it, it'd be abused.

The Fallen April 7th, 2005 5:17 PM

Yeah, that's on of the things. Some members would give it for no reason. It's good idea if staff is only allowed to do it.

Lust April 7th, 2005 8:01 PM

It has its advantages but not enough of them. I think it should be the staff's decision when banning someone.

...But it is. o.o;

Anyways, it would be pretty handy. I don't see why not.

Lust April 7th, 2005 9:32 PM

I mean that a lot of regular members would abuse this.

Hm... Well, I'll change my statement. If only staff can use it, then yes. If non-staff can use it, then heck no.

Lust April 7th, 2005 9:51 PM

On another forum (SPPf) they had a warning points system but they never warned a member when they got a warning point so if you guys do this please inform the member. Good thing it's gone from there.

Shikon no Tama April 8th, 2005 12:34 PM

This is how the warning system worked there:
You clicked o nthe rep warninh box, you send a PM to an admin and them the warning request and reasoning for the warning would be sent into the Mods Lounge and then mods and higher staff could discuss the warning sent and either clarify it and give the member who had their warning box clicked a warning. That's how it worked. Only the staff and mods could actually put the warning on the warning box, and the members were the ones who reported the bad user's actions and request for a warning.

ravenstorture April 8th, 2005 4:49 PM

Yes, I agree that if only staff has access to add the warning, then definetly yes. This would be very cool and handy. Normal members don't need access to it.

armadilloHD April 8th, 2005 5:04 PM

I've seen the IF forums, only staff members can add warnings. On the forum I go to, warnings go like this

1 Warning (17%) Verbal Warning
2 Warnings (36% I believe) 1 day ban
3 Warnings (50%) 5 day ban
4 Warnings (100%) Perma ban until further notice

(If your perma banned and you sign up as another account you get IP banned )

Mr Cat Dog April 9th, 2005 4:05 AM

It would make sense for staff members to give out warnings and such... although if members can, then no way, jose! XD

Eastenders is crap!

Kyogre-chan April 9th, 2005 4:10 AM

So... let me get this straight. If members request a warning, the staff can discuss it, but if the warning requested was plain stupid, the member who requested that warning gets a warning? (Confusing. XD) Sounds good to me.

Flaming Torchic April 9th, 2005 4:11 AM

Ugh, I am against this idea. >>

We used this at SPPf, and it was really a pain. We had to record EVERY warning given out, and when members were banned, they didn't know why. Plus, PMing people for EVERY warning you give them becomes tedious and annoying.

I say we just stick with manual warning.

Well, that's how it worked. But the member who requested a warning for a stupid reason would get a warning and have to discuss it with a mod.
