Need help on a fantasy theme team
I wanted to build a team that's fantasy based, I'm not too much into competitive (so please leave Smogon tiers outta this), I just want to make a fantasy themed team for casual that also works perfectly, presently I just have:
Delphox Nickname: Delphius -Psychic -Toxic -Flamethrower -Shadow ball Timid EV: 252 SpA/252 Spe/6 HP Item: Life Orb Ability: Blaze Aegislash Nickname: Galaxia -Sacred Sword -Night Slash -Iron Head -King Shield Adamant EV: 252 Atk/252 HP/6 Def Item: Expert Belt Gardevoir Nickname: Mage -Hyper Voice -Psychic -Focus Blast -WoW Modest EV:252 SpA/252 Spe/6 HP Item: Gardevoirite/Choice Spec Ability: Synchronize Honchkrow Nickname: Nightingale -Brave Bird -Dark Pulse -Aerial Ace -Steel Wing Nature is undecided EV: 252 HP/252 Atk/6 SpA Item: Zoom Lens Ability: Super Luck Golurk Nickname: Golem -Phantom Force -Earthquake -Heavy Slam/Dynamic Punch -Stone Edge Adamant EV: 252 Atk/252 HP/6 Def Item: Assault Vest Ability: No Guard Who should the 6th be? |
Shadow Ball doesn't let Delphox do much. If you really must use a coverage move, it's either Grass Knot to hit Water Pokemon hard, or Dazzling Gleam to hit Dragons harder (it also lets you do something against Houndoom, which walls Delphox otherwise):
-Calm Mind -Fire Blast -Psychic/Psyshock -Grass Knot/Substitute Nature: Timid EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe Item: Life Orb/Salac Berry Ability: Blaze or -Fire Blast -Psyshock -Dazzling Gleam -Switcheroo Nature: Timid/Modest EVs: 252 SAtk/4 SDef/252 Spe Item: Choice Scarf Ability: Blaze Night Slash is useless on Aegislash because Dark and Ghost have redundant coverage together. The rule of thumb here is to go with the type that has STAB, and Aegislash has STAB on Ghost. Better takes here: -Shadow Ball -Iron Head/Flash Cannon/Shadow Sneak -Sacred Sword/Shadow Sneak -King's Shield Nature: Quiet EVs: 244 HP/12 Def/252 SAtk Item: Leftovers/Weakness Policy or -Substitute -Toxic -King's Shield -Shadow Ball Nature: Modest/Timid EVs: 252 HP/252 SAtk/4 SDef (Modest) or 252 HP/4 SDef/252 Spe (Timid) Item: Leftovers or -Iron Head/Shadow Claw -Shadow Sneak -Sacred Sword -King's Shield/Swords Dance Nature: Adamant EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 SDef Item: Leftovers/Weakness Policy Gardevoir must always run its Mega Stone, as it's outclassed without it. Always use Psyshock as the Psychic STAB so Gardevoir doesn't get walled by things like Chansey. Not using Mega Gardevoir will make Hyper Voice useless.: -Psyshock -Hyper Voice -Focus Blast -Will-o-Wisp/Taunt/Calm Mind Nature: Timid/Modest EVs: 24 HP/232 SAtk/252 Spe (avoids the 2HKO from Latios' Psyshock) Item: Gardevoirite Ability: Trace Honchkrow is better off as a pure physical attacker, as doing so will make it make the most out of its Moxie ability, which is superior to Super Luck (and Insomnia to an extent). Relying on critical hits is an inconsistent strategy. Scope Lens is the item that boosts critical hit ratios, while the Zoom Lens increases accuracy only if the holder goes last. Honchkrow is also frail, meaning it can't make use of Zoom Lens effectively. Aerial Ace is very weak (unless it's being used by Mega Aerodactyl), while Fairies are hit harder by Brave Bird than by Steel Wing: 252+ Atk Life Orb Honchkrow Brave Bird vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aromatisse: 242-285 (59.6 - 70.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery 252+ Atk Life Orb Honchkrow Steel Wing vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Aromatisse: 190-224 (46.7 - 55.1%) -- 10.9% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery Here's a much better set below. It's meant to serve as a mid/late-game attacker: -Sucker Punch -Brave Bird -Superpower/Pursuit -Roost/Pursuit Nature: Adamant EVs: 252 Atk/4 SDef/252 Spe Item: Life Orb Ability: Moxie Phantom Force is a relatively unreliable attack for offensive purposes, as the opponent can switch to Normal or Dark Pokemon to take the hit. The only Pokemon who can make truly use of this attack are Trevenant and Gourgeist, as they can use it to stall for Leech Seed recovery. Assault Vest also is a mediocre item on Golurk because it doesn't have the best bulk, and the Special Defense boost from Assault Vest is wasted because Golurk's weaknesses to Ice, Grass, and Water are primarily special and it still takes massive damage from those regardless. Golurk makes a neat Stealth Rock setter, a hazard this team lacks. Heavy Slam and Stone Edge don't let Golurk hit anything noteworthy either: -Stealth Rock -Earthquake -Shadow Punch -Thunder Punch/Dynamic Punch Nature: Adamant EVs: 252 Atk/4 SDef/252 Spe Item: Colbur Berry/Passho Berry Ability: Iron Fist/No Guard or -Earthquake -Shadow Punch -Ice Punch -Zen Headbutt Nature: Adamant EVs: 252 Atk/4 SDef/252 Spe Item: Choice Band Ability: Iron Fist As this team stands, having roughly half the team being very vulnerable to Pursuit is a bad thing. Having something that actually resists Dark should help. I don't know what specifically can take this slot, though. |
