ooo
hi I looove the holiday season. Except this year I'm expected to get gifts for my co-workers and UGH stinginess. |
It's going to snow. A lot. :((
|
Hi DCC!
I love the holidays, we started decorating today! |
Suddenly reminded that I was at the dollar store the other week (I think that was when I was trying to find crayons for myself, just because I wanted them), and I walked down one of the aisles and boom, in front of me was suddenly so much holiday-related stuff. Various kinds of Santas, and Rudolph plushies, decorations, and so many other "holiday" things. It wasn't even November by that point, for crying out loud!
...Though I would be lying if I said I wasn't tempted to pick up a plushie or two. |
Isn't it sad my family never puts up decorations much anymore?
|
Most of our decorations are dollar store xD And they've surprisingly lasted a few years!
My mother goes all out. |
We've never had a big Christmas tree, mainly because getting large items up to a third floor apartment is rather difficult.
also, sorry for the rather depressing posts lol |
It's about time!
I just moved into an apartment, so I'm not sure what we're doing as far as Christmas decorations yet. |
I know my parents would pull down their tree plus decorations from the attic on Thanksgiving to put them up, and even that seems a little early...I can't imagine mid-October. :X
|
It's too early to go FULL Christmas (says the guy with a Nightmare Before Christmas theme). I love Thanksgiving and what it brings to the holiday season, so I wanna enjoy it before going full-Christmas (Nightmare is technically Halloween + Christmas, and there's a Thanksgiving Town door in the movie, so it's fine for November).
|
Oh how I miss the DCC. I haven't gone to super markets for weeks now, so I wasn't able see them selling Christmas decorations earlier than November.

The big debate with Christmas trees is whether you want to use a real tree or one of those fake department store ones. My family always used fakes because they're reusable and you don't have to keep throwing them out.
|
Only now that it's back am I realizing how much I missed the DCC ^^
I think now is a good time to go out and buy a Christmas tree, before shopping gets too hectic for the holiday season. I've always preferred the fake ones for the sake of convenience, but I might just go for a real one for a change this year. Maybe. |
I haven't had a tree of my own in years, my parents always had a fake one because, supposedly, the one year we did have a real one, everyone in the house except my mom had their allergies flare up (I was like three years old or so and don't remember it one bit). So we had a fake tree, but it was one that was just a tree, so there was always the nice hassle of setting it up and then setting up the lights on it ...
Although I'm not so sure it was better for our allergies compared to a real tree, once that thing got almost a year's worth of dust on it from sitting in storage it was awful. :P ...At least we didn't have to worry about throwing it away. |
We don't have room for a tree because our apartment is crammed with stuff lol we just set the presents aside.
I'd prefer a fake though, less mess and hassle I think! |
We'll probably end up with a fake tree at our apartment. I think one of our friends has an extra tree that she said she'd lend to us which would be pretty awesome.
|
Snow is impossible here, especially when there's a drought going on for years.
|
we've actually used real trees for as long as i can remember so while fake ones are more convinient i prefer real ones haha. as for snow i live in florida so hahah no snow for me.
|
All you guys can take whatever snow I end up getting, then.
BECAUSE I DON'T WANT IT ANYMORE. >:( |
I'm so excited for Christmas! When December starts I'm going to wear a Santa hat to work every day. It's too bad I have no ugly Christmas sweaters though. I guess it's time to hit up some thrift stores...

We never have snow on Christmas Day in England. :(
|
What is this snow you heathens speak of?

there's no snow in my part of Texas. i miss it, but only aesthetically.
cold air is my bane. :') |

Lucky to see snow in London, roughly every other winter we get some. Even when it snows there's only about a 25% chance that it will be a good amount. We had none last year, and the year before that we got a bit but it was mostly sleet which sucked. I just want to experience that feeling of walking through a field of fresh snow, where it's all flat and you're the first person to mess it up.

After that, no. Gross. |
I love snow as long as I don't have to drive in it. Back in February I got stuck 70 miles from home when we had a freak snowstorm and had to drive home on pretty much solid ice, across bridges and tunnels and stuff too. It took almost three hours and that's only because the roads cleared up about 20 miles from home.
And @ Christmas stuff, my family will actually be decorating the weekend before Thanksgiving this year. We used to wait until Thanksgiving weekend, but both my mom and I have jobs now that are insanely busy after Thanksgiving and we just don't have time to get everything up once Thanksgiving hits. |
What even is snow though? No White Christmases here!
I think I might travel to America some day solely to experience a White Christmas :') |

Lived down south most of my life. Wanted to see snow again so badly (since so many fond memories of it when I lived up north briefly as a kid). Moved back up north. I now wish at times I could be back down south during winter because yeeeah. |

Spoiler:
It snows way too much in the winter where I live. I'd love to go somewhere warm for the holiday season and see a green Christmas one of these days :) |
No one cares about Thanksgiving, and it makes me sad. :c
What about all the food D: |
Quote:
Anybody got any special plans for Thanksgiving, by the way? c: |
My Thanksgiving plans is go to work and suffer, come home, and then sleepuntil dinner time. Then sleep some more. :D My work is open from 5am-2pm on Thanksgiving and it's time and a half pay so since I don't really help with the cooking i figured why not. Worked well last year and I could use the extra money for gifts.
|
I signed up to work Thanksgiving. My manager was so happy to hear that I'll work both Thanksgiving and Christmas so she doesn't have to. Apparently Thanksgiving and Christmas is less fun to work for if you're a salary manager.
|
I used to work Thanksgiving at my old job since it was double time pay and they closed at 5pm, which worked since dinner was usually at 6.
|
Thankfully my new job gives me both Thanksgiving off as well as the day after. So that gives me an extra day to be lazy and sleep all day because I stuffed myself with so much food the day before ^_^

my job requires me to work all holidays and we don't get paid extra :/ |

Oh look, it's the DCC again. Where will I be at Thanksgiving? Having classes and playing games. We don't celebrate it here. |
Quote:
Anyways, I plan on going to my grandparent's house in North Carolina, the state next to me, and spending Most of the week there. It'll be fun, since my cousins and my aunt are there as well. |
I'm like Katalyst, living where Thanksgiving is non-existent. So expect nothing special for me boo
|
Thanksgiving's already passed here, so it's just another day for us, but we do black Friday here and it's nuts x.x
|
We don't celebrate Thanksgiving here, but I do really want to be apart of Thanksgiving at least once -- yet another reason to travel to America for a holiday it seems!
|
I can understand you there Nathan. My mother always wanted to go to America but it's not due to a holiday, but rather that boyfriend she's obsessed with on Facebook.
|
I may have to work Thanksgiving, Luckily, we close at 2pm that day, so I'll get out an hour earlier than normal~ I may even have to work less if the bus runs on a Sunday schedule (it runs weekend schedules on most holidays) and don't have to come in until 8
|
Funny how you guys are talking about Thanksgiving when I just got back from watching the Nostalgia Critic's editorial video about how Thanksgiving merchandise is getting pushed aside by Halloween and Christmas.
|
I doubt I have to work Thanksgiving. My department is absolutely unnecessary that day, and I'm already working that Sunday and the Wednesday before.
Thanksgiving is really only a big deal for me because of my job. Since I work at a grocery store, we prepare a few weeks early for all the special items people buy, like baking needs and the side dishes. Customers are already stocking up on cranberry sauce. |
I'll be working Thanksgiving. In a country that does not celebrate Thanksgiving.
ASDA (British Wal-Mart, basically) released a statement saying they wouldn't be doing Black Friday this year. |
Woshh!!! My holiday starts just as my exam finish! I hope I can get a part-time work and get a good computer hardrive :P.

It's still early November |
Saw this picture today. Can't say I disagree.
Spoiler:
|
It's so weird knowing that I was still in elementary school when some of you guys were here.
|
I was only 9 when PC was created... and ended up joining the community around nearly 9 years later. Very coincidental.
|
I was 16 when I joined PC, seems a lifetime ago...
Six years on this site, (admittedly off-and-on), is some going, can only imagine how it feels for some of you who joined in 05! Can't say i've not enjoyed it, however. |
I joined at age 22, and I was 11 when PC was created. So like Nichole...I was 11 when it was created and joined 11 years later, that's kinda funny :P
|
I joined PC when I was around sixteen. I feel so old here on PC because I'm one of the ones that have been here a really, really long time. :c I've been on here off and on with different accounts for what... eleven years now? I think this is the longest I've actually stayed.
|
Eleven years ago was 2004...jesus christ that feels so long ago. [email protected][email protected]
|
i was 11 when i joined and i'm nearing my 11th anni.
love all these 1111s lately. |
I guess all this mention of 11 really means it is a lucky number, by PC standards hehehe
Next March will be my 5th PCversary... yeah can't believe how quickly that is coming |
I will have been Staff now for 5 years come December 3rd, which is insane to think about because that's half a decade already and I still feel like a staff baby sometimes compared to say a Morkula/Hiroshi Sotomura who have hit 11/12 years already. o_O

The longest (and only) time i've ever modded a forum was only maybe a year, before the place died on its feet and went under. Just wasn't active enough.
Enjoyed being on staff, although this was back in the days when I could dedicate 15 hours a day to forums. |
I was a mod on some forums run by some of my PC friends, sadly they all died from inactivity so my career was short-lived.
|
|
11 is a very delicious number... so good it popped up in so many postbits
|
My shoe size is 11 :o

I'm not a fossil worthy of museum exhibition like some of these folks, but I'm old enough to be carried around the place in a coffin.
Oh and I was never part of staff. Anywhere. Go me! |
Thank you!
I like yours, i'm a sucker for simplistic designs. |

Also, they can totally make candles smell like gingerbread. There is no small we can't fake at this point. |

I want this now. :( I dunno where the nearest Starbucks is around here though ahhh. |
I work at Dunkin so I get my coffee from Dunkin 99.5% of the time. Only when my sister wants to get something at Starbucks do I get something myself and it's normally a type of frap. Or I just share her frap.
|
Yeah, closest Starbucks to my location is...3 miles away, apparently.
Wonder if it would be easy/worth walking to, hm. I don't feel like taking the car (whenever it actually is available) to there. |
u wana know how to roll like a champion?
(._.) (l:) (.-.) (:l) (._.)
Idek anymore x3 So... anyone wana talk? :3 |
There are four in Durham Town centre, plus several more on surrounding motorways. Can't say i'm a fan tbh, i'm not a coffee drinker.
|
Quote:
I've never been in Starbucks, despite one being right across the street from where I work. I'm not really a big coffee drinker, and it just seems silly to pay that much for something I don't really drink. But I have had a few of their bottled refrigerated coffees. The vanilla one is delicious! |

Man, that sounds really good. I wish I had more dessert here now.
|
A "friend" of mine actually baked me an apple pie (of all the things, lmao) the other day and hooooly **** it was actually really good.
|
Happy Friday the 13th, everybody! I hope you'll survive Jason's onslaught.
|
I actually didn't even realize it was a Friday the 13th today until someone mentioned it earlier.
Thinking of apple pies and stuff, I actually made an apple crumble the other week. ...I forgot to peel the apples beforehand, but it still came out really good. Would make it again if I had more apples. Quote:
