increasing box space?
I was wondering if it is possible to add more boxes to the pc to be able to hold more pokemon. And how many could be added. Also editing the game so you can level up infinetly. I feel once you get to level 100 it makes using that pokemon pointless and it would be more fun to truly have a way stronger pokemon that would be different from anyone elses if you put the effort in.

Adding more PC boxes is definitely not the most feasible thing to do. Each PC Pokémon takes up 80 bytes in RAM (the remaining 20 can be derived from those 80 and are calculated when you withdraw it). You can, as things currently are, store 30 Pokémon per box and you have 14 boxes. That makes an incredible 33,600 bytes for the PC. To increase that space, you'd need to find enough RAM to store the new box. And that's skipping over the fact that the specific block has to be saved into the save game.
JPAN's save block hack frees up 0203C000 to 0203CEC4, or about 3780 bytes. You could get about 47 PC Pokémon out of that - a bit more than a box. And then you'd have to make the game read the new box. So, unless you're willing to rewrite the way the game manages its RAM, you can through a lot of trickery get 1.5 new boxes. As for indefinite levels, define indefinite. I can't remember if the game stores the level as a byte or not, but if it does, you can't ever go above 255 (127 if it reads it as signed). And while going over level 100 isn't as unfeasible (it may have been done before, I'm not sure), you'd need a ridiculous level curve for the player to ever get that high-leveled during normal gameplay. |
It's an unsigned [signed is for numbers that go under 0] byte, so Level 255 is your limit (theoreticaly, hacking this to increase the number would go hand-in-hand with decreasing the number of Pokemon you can fit into memory, and therefore your PC box space)
