Volcanion officially announced!
Just four hours ago, the official Pokemon Youtube channel released this video!
And here's its entry on the official Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire website: Volcanion A new Mythical Pokémon has been found in the world of Pokémon, which cannot be encountered through regular gameplay. This Pokémon’s name is Volcanion! Unlike any Pokémon discovered before it, this Pokémon is both Fire and Water type. It uses fire and water to create steam within its body, expelling explosive shock waves and boiling steam from the arms on its back. The power is said to be great enough to blow away an entire mountain, gouging out the earth and changing the shape of the land. We of course knew about it all along, but with this we now have our first official confirmation of the mythical Pokémon Volcanion! |
So...will we get it via deliveryman with Mystery Gift without any special in-game encounter, similar to o-
"...which cannot be encountered through regular gameplay. This Pokémon’s name is Volcanion!" Yeeeeeah :I |
Honestly this is the kinda stuff that makes it hard for me to believe they haven't been running out of good ideas for Pokémon designs.
Most things from Gen. I were okay, some unoriginal and designs were admittedly a lot simpler than future gens, but I think they were all good regardless. Gen. II, same, except better than Gen. I because they didn't have things like, Pokéball with eyes, 3 magnemites together, 3 digletts together, etc. I don't have anything bad to say about Gen. III nor Gen. IV, apart maybe Arceus's design looks a bit... odd... with the ring thing around its body, at least it's kinda fitting imo and doesn't look entirely ridiculous. Gen. V too, even though it started getting some questionable designs (I will never be a fan of Vallinish/Vanniluxe, altough Vannilite is cute), or Klink/Klank/Klinklank which aren't bad per-se, could have used a slightly more original name. Even Trubbish I thought looks kinda cute, just Garbodor is probably one of the worst, but I like the idea behind it. Tornadus/Thundurus/Landorus I can't stand their regular form. At all. Their Therian forms are amazing though, they are what the three should have always been. Then you get to Gen. VI; don't get me wrong, I like them all about equally, some more than the others, and at worse I am indifferent to them. But then you get to the legendaries at the end. Xerneas is nice, similar design to Arceus. Yveltal is really cool, flying dark bird thing. Zygarde is some kind of snake-like thing and I like its design overall. It looks and feels legendary. Then you get to hidden legendaries that weren't revealed until later. Diancie is amazing and I love it. Easily my favourite out of all Gen. VI Then there's Hoopa. Its regular form looks pretty good, almost kinda like a mischievous clown or something. It is the mischief Pokémon after all. And then it turns into Hoopa Unbound and ohmygodwhatthehellisthatthing! And Volcanion is even worse. Then they reveal Zygarde's formes. Cell Zygarde is cool, nice concept. Core Zygarde too, I have nothing to say about it. 10% forme Zygarde looks really cool, and then 50% Zygarde we already knew all along. Then they show us Complete Forme Zygarde? What is that? Are we playing Transformers now or something? At least the Zygarde formes aren't actually in-game... yet. They may show up in an eventual Pokémon Z or something, if they release that. That would make a lot of sense. But I still absolutely hate Complete Forme Zygarde. That does not look like a Pokémon anymore. Pokémon to me are supposed to look like animals or some sort. That looks like a bipedal human-like robot. I have hope that they have good designs for next gen. They've had plenty of time to come up with new ones. They might have run out of good ideas near the end for good legendary Pokémon but no doubt they had ideas in mind for regular Pokémon to fill a new Pokédex without having really stupid designs. But if legendary Pokémon follow that trend for the next generations it'll probably just kill them for me. I love collecting Pokémon and trying to fill up my Pokédex, but things like Volcanion, I'm not even interested in getting. |
Hey, I'm excited for the first fire and water dual-type.
Should be fun to play around with once we can actually get it... |
It's about time! I mean, I totally had no idea this was coming!
I'm honestly surprised it took them so long to announce it, considering fans have known about it since like 2013. |
I'm excited too! I'm glad to see some official confirmation on this, finally!

Honestly, it won't even surprise me that it will be coming to Singapore/SEA before the States as well. There has been a trend with current events such as the Shiny Rayquaza event and now even Arceus getting distributed by Maxsoft via FB soon as well as being distributed through it's outlets in real life, such as Funz Centre.

That thing is hideous. However I think the idea behind a Fire/Water type is cool and I think it'll be cool to use in battle. I don't like that it's another event-exclusive mon. It's not like we don't already have like 20 of those.
|
My friend told me about this and when I saw what the Pokémon looked like it kind of surprised me. I was thinking of a volcano because of its name. I'm actually looking forward to this when it starts over in Japan.
|
Maybe it'll look more volcanic if it gains a new forme. Maybe it'll be be based on a super Volcano like Yellowstone which is known for it's geysers (and the park around it). Something with that much power can certainly upset the environment and have Perfect Zygarde go into a frenzy to fix things.

Another form would make sense--so far all 3 of the mythical Pokemon for this generation have had one (Mega Diancie, Hoopa Unbound), it'd be weird for Volcanion to be the odd man out. I'd hope it'd be something unique like Hoopa got, rather than another Mega.

Anyways, we now have our first official Fire/Water-type. Now that makes Water only the second type to be paired with every other type as far as type combinations go, after Flying. Can't wait to hear more about this Pokemon and what moves and abilities it may have. For stats, I guess I'm predicting it to mainly be a special attacker since it was mainly using special moves in the trailer, such as Scald and Overheat. |

Compared to Deoxys, Arceus, and Genesect, Volcanion as the last event Pokemon is kinda underwhelming, as they have impressive dex entries that tie-in with the stories and are usually the strongest of the event Pokemon from the gen they're introduced in. The type combo is cool, even if it doesn't negate its weakness to sneaky pebbles.

VOLCANION VENTURES ABOVE THE SURFACE AND VENTS! (/failed V pun..?) After wading past all of those "old news" jokes, I'm excited that Volcanion finally received an official reveal! Woo-hoo; our first type-diametric Fire/Water Pokemon! ^^ I was wondering if Game Freak would actually bother to use the thing since it's been so long, but then again, as mentioned above, Arceus apparently took 3 years to see a proper "official" release.. AESTHETICS: In any case, going to the design.. First off, epic-sounding name! While I've seen the brief snippets of his in-game model, Volcanion's artwork by Ken Sugimori looks positively stunning! I like his "sturdy, heavyset" look.. The way that Volcanion's head is chiseled (similar to those cool-looking edges on Aggron) looks great, and the design is a nice blend of the primary painting colors of red, blue, and yellow (but Volcanion is classified as BROWN in the Pokedex..? Really? ~_~ Looks more dark red than brown to me, although I can potentially see an overlap..). His bulky seed-shaped body looks a bit weird/disorienting if you focus on it, though.. I like the golden-yellowish "golden kite-shaped" cores on Volcanion's body; they convey the image of industrial and/or bubbly active molten machinations at work within the body.. I like the sturdy-looking bottom parts of Volcanion's limbs, although the way they're connected to the main body seems so afterthought-ish.. :x Finally, Volcanion's cannons (or arms..? They don't look like arms to me.. >_>) look cool in their sealed/closed format, although they do not appear like they lend themselves easily to swiveling towards the opponent for a well-aimed blast of steam/fire/water... But overall, the design is excellent; very well done for a legendary Pokemon! (vastly more visually appealing than Hoopa Unbound, in my opinion.. *shudders*) Also, I feel like those golden-yellow ovals/ellipses where both cannons "connect" at should be segmented at their midpoints; otherwise, Volcanion's cannons seem like they will split up oddly.. (unless those ovals are "attached" to just one of the cannons rather than both..?) STEAM ERUPTION: So the move "Steam Eruption", Volcanion's purported signature move, seems to be a more powerful version of Scald... I kind of wish that the English name was slightly different, because now I feel that the Fire-type move "Eruption" needs to be disambiguated as "Volcanic Eruption" or something (at least regarding the English release.. XD).. The Japanese name of "Steam Burst" sounds okay, although I feel that the term "burst" lacks the oomph it used to have as a word these days.. "Steam Cannon" would be my go-to name, but the "__ cannon" name format seems painfully obvious; and using the Greek word of "Atmos" seems more like it connotates just air/wind.. The only other name I came up with was "Gatling Geyser/Geyser Gatling" (should fit within the confines of the Generation 6 move name limit, given the 14-character name of "High Jump Kick"..and alliteration FTW! Oh, come on; just when I'm trying to be original.. -.-), although that would probably necessitate that the move is a "rapid-fire" kind of move upon its initiation during battle. OTHER REMARKS: Volcanion seems to have decent offenses (mostly Special Attack) and defenses, although it seems like it will be greatly hampered by its sub-par speed.. :S And from what I'm reading, Mega Venusaur could cause problems via its Grass/Poison typing coupled with the Fire-impeding Thick Fat Ability.. Kind of odd that the Volcanion announcement is laced with Pokemon OmegaRuby/AlphaSapphire tones rather than Pokemon X and Y elements (such as Volcanion's English announcement trailer using "Battle! VS Wild Pokemon (Hoenn)" from ORAS rather than "Battle! VS Wild Pokemon (Kalos)" from XY), although I guess "ORAS recency!" prevails.. :| I really wish that Volcanion got its own proper in-game residency location and its own battle music..maybe the next core series Pokemon game will have some.. Too bad that Volcanion's hype kind of got diminished due to data-mining that occurred months/years ago.. In my opinion, a potential form change for Volcanion (to match the alterations of the other "600 Base Stat Total" Kalos Pokemon of Diancie and Hoopa, not to mention Zygarde and Xerneas to an extent) would be weird; Volcanion's design is nice as it is. I personally felt that Mega Diancie and Hoopa Unbound were unnecessary (although now Regular!Diancie's design looks a bit less "full/fulfilling" thanks to the existence of Mega Diancie)... Also, POKEMON COMMENT OF THE MONTH {XD}{XD}{XD}: Quote:

I like the fact that Volcanion is a fire/water type Pokémon but...the design of it I'm not liking it too much. I mean there's nothing wrong with its design it's just...I don't know... *shrugs*

That's what randoms have been pleading with me for in the GTS for the past year? What an underwhelming looking Pokemon.
Whilst I love Diancie, Volcanion looks like a Pokémon I won't be going out of my way to get. |
