Watch out for Ghosts...

Watch out for Ghosts...

What's that noise... oh, sorry, hi. Let's chat. Say anything you want, anything at all, I like to talk about Pokémon... at least I think I do...? Let me tell you a story...

Once upon a time there was a thread. This thread was a simple thread to chat about Pokémon in, just to chill back and have fun with friends, and we kept a counter going as we posted just to see how far we could get. Then they came... The more we spoke, the more things began to feel strange. People... changed, in that thread. One minute my friends would be acting completely normal, the next minute they'd change, they'd attack us, they'd scare us half to death. We began using the counter as a method of tracking their progress, trying to find the patterns they played by... We worked out that every time the counter hit 100, another of our friends would change into one of them. But when we reached 200... everything seemed ok again. Everything seemed cleansed. Other than the one unfortunate soul to still be counting... We only reached higher than that once, before the attacks came again - we thought we were in the clear, until I began to change myself. I'd hit 300. I started to twist, change... I never returned to how I used to be. I'm different, I'm changed. I scare myself sometimes, but I prefer to scare them instead... Sometimes I'll just shout "BOO!", and they all just have to start over again...

Now that you know my story, come count with me...

Becoming a Ghost

  • If the counter reaches 100 on your post, you will turn into a Regular Ghost!
  • If the counter reaches 200 on your post, you will turn into a Super Ghost, and every other Ghost is cleansed and returns to being human.
  • If the counter reaches 300 on your post... good luck. You are now a Permanent Ghost, and you are immune to the cleansing at 200!
  • As a Ghost, you can post "BOO!" to scare the thread at any time, resetting the counter to 0.
  • Each type of Ghost has a limit to the number of times they can "BOO," and once they reach that limit, they will revert to being human! See the section below for more details.
  • Feel free to post which Pokémon you want to be when you become a Ghost, otherwise I'll randomly assign you one!

Ghosts & Their Powers

Each Ghost will have a "status" under their name. Every time they "BOO," a heart (♥) will appear next to their status. A status of "..." means that they have not BOO-ed yet! Also, the number of times that each Ghost can still "BOO" will be individually listed with their status.
  • Regular Ghosts (100) — can only "BOO" twice. They can only have up to one heart in their status. If they "BOO" while they have a heart (♥) in their status, they will revert to being a human again.
  • Super Ghosts (200) — can "BOO" three times. They can have up to two hearts in their status. If they "BOO" while they have two hearts (♥♥) in their status, they will revert to being a human again.
  • Permanent Ghosts (300) — can "BOO" up to four times. They can have up to three hearts in their status. If they "BOO" while they have three hearts (♥♥♥) in their status, they will revert to being a human again. In addition, they are unaffected by the "ghost cleansing" when the counter reaches 200!
(If you are already a ghost, and the counter reaches 100, 200, or 300 on your post, then the effect will stack! In other words, the appropriate number of "BOOs" will be added to the amount you have left. Even so, please be considerate and try to give other people a chance to become a Ghost as well!)

As the only Manipulator Ghost, I will be able to "BOO" whenever I see fit. However, I will only "BOO" strategically to keep the number of Ghosts under control.

Rules

  • All Pokémon Trivia rules apply.
  • With every new post, increase the counter in the corner by 1.
  • If a Ghost says "BOO," the counter is reset to 0.
  • Upon reaching 300, the counter is automatically reset to 0.
  • This is a chit-chat thread, so feel free to be creative with conversation topics! You don't have to stick to a certain topic as long as the conversation flows normally.
  • Even though this is a chatting thread, all posts must be about Pokémon or Pokémon Trivia. Do NOT make number-only posts!
  • Try not to reset the count too much at first, we want a few ghosts to build up before the counts get more intense!
  • Have fun, or else!

The Count Begins...

Alright, now let us begin the conversation!

1.

So... has anyone here ever completed the PokéDex? What is your opinion on completing the Dex?

Dedenne1 January 19th, 2016 12:17 PM

2 Pokedex completion {XD} thats funny i never get around to that not even for the shiny charm in BW

Sothis January 19th, 2016 12:28 PM

3 I'm too lazy to complete the dex, way too much effort.

LilyGardy January 19th, 2016 12:56 PM

4.

Yes I did complete the Pokedex in X. It took a lot of work (and trading) but it was a great feeling to receive the Diploma in X.

Now 'Stephanie' (My X Character) has a completed Dex and the Shiny Charm. However completing the Dex was a lot of effort and I will almost certainly never do it again. :)

Otamajakushi January 19th, 2016 1:01 PM

5 - I'm working on my living dex challenge now! I am at least 80% done; I can't wait to finish it and show it off!

Sothis January 19th, 2016 1:28 PM

6 You guys are more patient then me xD

Nice job with that! Does the Shiny Charm make a "noticeable" difference when hunting for shinies? I've only heard its name once or twice, so I have no clue if it's worth the trouble haha.

Wow, for real? Cool! I could never do something like that, haha. It already takes enough dedication to complete the PokéDex the "easy" way (which I still haven't done yet), but it definitely sounds a lot more impressive to actually own every single species at the same time!

Yea! Wait till you hear that every single Pokemon was caught in the region they were introduced in. It's going to be epic! :D

9.

Thank you. :) The Shiny Charm does not seem to have any real difference on Shiny encounters. I have only two 'random' shinies (Flabebe, Gulpin) since I got it. It is said to be good for Horde Shiny Hunting however.

That's two more random shinies than me! :D

Meadow January 19th, 2016 3:28 PM

11.

The only random shiny I've ever caught was a Sunkern in HeartGold, which I evolved to a Sunflora! Other than that, all of my shinies are either traded or non-random (including a certain Gyarados). xD

Guardian January 19th, 2016 3:38 PM

11 the thread just started and ninjad already, tradition I guess lol

12

Never completed it.
1. A bit lazy.
2. I am doing a marathon so I keep moving on to another Pokemon games since I had them ready for 2 years now.
3. I cant get legends, especially the event ones :/

Will try completing it in Soul Silver/Platinum/White. Later even the earlier versions.
I was actually considering completing the Yellow one, since you can get any Pokemon including Mew, who I got already :D

Sothis January 19th, 2016 4:01 PM

13 Wireless has made it easy to get legendaries for some, but not me! :D

Otamajakushi January 19th, 2016 5:08 PM

14 I agree! The introduction of WiFi to main series Pokemon games was tremendous in bringing people together around the globe. I'm glad they contribute to improve it with each iteration.

Dedenne1 January 19th, 2016 5:10 PM

14 15
I got all the legendaries and a good sum of shinies but for some reason it feels like it takes so loooooooooooooooooong to finish! Of coarse it might be simpler to finish the dex before the dex number gets above 800

I'm hoping to have mine done by then, or at the very least before Gen 7 comes around. 720 is tough enough!

I've got a complete living Dex so am working on a shiny living Dex. It's cool to have a project on the go!

Killua January 19th, 2016 6:33 PM

19 shiny living dex? Goddamit how can one do that? It is harder than finding the one piece!!! If you do it you are oficially god

d January 19th, 2016 7:01 PM

20

I can't even remember the last time I used wireless connection in the games

Meadow January 19th, 2016 7:23 PM

Holy cow, completing a shiny living Dex is probably like the ultimate accomplishment for any Pokémon player, haha. I'll be blown out the window (read: impressed) if you manage to reach your goal! Good luck! :D

Otamajakushi January 20th, 2016 8:05 AM

27 So, what's new in everyone's Pokemon world?

Hikamaru January 20th, 2016 9:32 AM

28

Nothing but thinking about #Pokemon20

Meadow January 20th, 2016 12:18 PM

29.

Whoa, it's pretty hard to believe that the Pokémon franchise has been staying strong for (approximately) 20 years! How much longer do you guys think the franchise will survive? :o

Otamajakushi January 20th, 2016 12:41 PM

30 Hopefully forever!

Sothis January 20th, 2016 1:33 PM

31 I'd like to see it continue more! There's endless possibilities.

Hikamaru January 20th, 2016 2:52 PM

32

Pokemon is love, Pokemon is life.

Dedenne1 January 20th, 2016 2:54 PM

33
Probably as long as Nintendo can make new consoles and even then itll probably outlast that

Otamajakushi January 20th, 2016 2:55 PM

34

I think they can, essentially, print money with the Pokemon franchise. We all joke about it, but it's true. As long as they stay the course they're on now, and don't make drastic changes to the series, I think they can potentially make Pokemon times for decades to come. That said, there will be a time where the dev team undergoes some serious changes, and it will be then where the big changes happen. How the series weathers those changes will reflect on how will it will persist in to the very future.

Meadow January 20th, 2016 6:49 PM

I specifically singled this line out because it could make an interesting topic for everyone! :D

So if they DO continue making Pokémon games for the next several decades, do you guys think they will design a ton of new species for every single generation? Or do you think they will eventually stop making new species at a certain point, and still make games from what they have?

Sothis January 20th, 2016 6:50 PM

36 I dunno really, They may run out of things to make pokemon based off so

Meadow January 20th, 2016 6:53 PM

Heheheh, but they can always recycle! Though a lot of fans would probably be unhappy if they recycle too much. xD

Sothis January 20th, 2016 6:56 PM

38 That's true but I'd like to be like 60 playing pokemon

Otamajakushi January 20th, 2016 7:20 PM

39 I think there'll be a trend starting with Gen 6 of not designing 100+ species per new generation. Gen 6 only had ~70, and I think this is something we're going to see going forward. That said, I'd like to see them hit 1000, at least, and never stop adding more.

Interesting! I know you said "never," but that still leads me to another question...

What's the ideal maximum number of Pokémon that you guys would like to see?

Thursday January 20th, 2016 7:38 PM

41.

1500. There is no way I'd try to go through and collect that many Pokemon.

Sothis January 20th, 2016 10:58 PM

42 My ideal is actually 1000

CJoE January 21st, 2016 4:14 AM

43
1500 hmm sure is high

Otamajakushi January 21st, 2016 8:54 AM

44

Being totally surprised about what they do is also an option.

Hikamaru January 21st, 2016 1:36 PM

45

Imagine if they were to reach 1000+ Pokemon... that would be awesome

Otamajakushi January 21st, 2016 3:50 PM

46 - I just hope that, at some point, they increase the number of boxes you can have in Bank. Eventually, all those Pokemon can fill it up fast!

Sothis January 21st, 2016 4:10 PM

47 Or make the bank free :P

Otamajakushi January 21st, 2016 4:54 PM

48 - I would, actually, gladly pay for more boxes. No hesitation. $5 is extremely cheap as it is. $5 per 100 boxes seems nice. I'd probably get a lot because it's a once per year charge.

Astinus January 21st, 2016 4:58 PM

49

Bank is already a darn good deal. Paying to add more boxes doesn't seem that bad.

I really hope they don't have up to 1500 Pokemon. There are already so many that I can't remember, and the more that's added, the more that there will be that I haven't played with. I mean, I played through Y twice, and used different Pokemon through each playthrough, and there are plenty of Kalos Pokemon that I haven't used.

Sothis January 21st, 2016 6:05 PM

50 Nah it should be free, not everyone has money for such luxuries but wants to keep their pokemon safe

Otamajakushi January 21st, 2016 6:48 PM

51 - The service has to be maintained though, and that costs money. I'd like to see some data to determine whether or not Bank is actually profitable. To be honest, I was expecting $5 a month. That price per year is a STEAL. Think about it. To cover 100 boxes of storage, you would need 4 game cartridges. (For some people, like me, that's not a problem. I have 6 Gen 6 cartridges.)

Dedenne1 January 21st, 2016 8:26 PM

52
I just noticed i forgot to re subscribe to the new thread xD

Sothis January 21st, 2016 8:41 PM

53 Nintendo is a multi billion dollar company and you're trying to say they can't at least give us an online service for free?

Meadow January 21st, 2016 9:28 PM

54.

I probably wouldn't trust its reliability if it were completely free, though, especially if the Pokémon are stored online. I'd rather have an app similar to Pokémon Box R/S (which was on the GameCube) for the 3DS where you can store all of your Pokémon offline without having to worry about subscription fees. It would be even better if we could actually choose between Pokémon Bank and that theoretical app I just mentioned, since people have different preferences and all.

A free service is one that disappears on the drop of a hat. Nintendo Wifi Connection, Club Nintendo, Nintendo Power (Kind of). Pokemon Bank will go away too, but being a paid service, that won't happen soon and unexpectedly. Multi-billion dollar company or no, it's business. I pay for that service, they are held accountable if my data is wrong.

I agree, I would much prefer an offline solution.

Sothis January 21st, 2016 9:53 PM

56 You have a good point there I'll agree. An offline solution would be good. Like a program u pay for once that u can install!

Otamajakushi January 21st, 2016 9:59 PM

57 I wouldn't mind it even being a whole game, like My Pokemon Ranch where you can walk around with your Pokemon and see them in a huge open world. That would be awesome! Oh and then you can travel this huge landscape and interact with all of your Pokemon. You'd still be limited to 3000 per save, but still.

Oh and then you could go online and visit other people's worlds and do trades and stuff. Ok fine, I admit it, I just want a Pokemon mmo.

Sothis January 21st, 2016 10:00 PM

58 Ok that's honestly the dream

CJoE January 22nd, 2016 4:44 AM

pokemon mmo would be awesome :D

60

Hooray I have been unghosted!!! Though when I saw the 'Closed' on the old thread, I was about to cry until I saw the post about the new thread.

I really want a Pokemon MMO. However, it would be awesome if someone could create a Nerve Gear-like device from like Sword Art Online to make the MMO more realistic, but put barriers on how far someone could tweak the device [we don't want losing a battle= permadeath for the player in real life]. It should have a log off function after like an hour or two and the player cannot log back in for at least 30 minutes [so they can eat/do other stuff].

Trainers/players would start in a normal town [say Pallet Town] and have to achieve to be the very best. Nuzlocke rules of perma-Pokemon death is also included. Certain NPCs will still be present- Nurse Joy, the professor, Officer Jenny, gym leaders [initially], and some townspeople. Players can enter tournaments to become gym leaders later on [they have to also battle the previous gym leader for the position]. Players can also do other things like contests, Pokemon cooking [poffins/Pokeblocks], Pokemon healing [apprentice to Nurse Joy], joining an evil team [why not], forming trainer guilds, running a Pokemart, and other standard jobs that are needed. It is essentially meant to be a game that you can do as you please so long as you follow the morals [like no stealing, attacking another trainer, etc].

Guardian January 22nd, 2016 9:09 AM

61

Those who want a Pokemon mmo should check out Pokemon Eternity.

*flies away on a Giratina*

Giratina can go to Distortion world, so even though Lugia knows all the cool ocean places, Giratina has an exclusive area so it wins by a bit ;)

And no one can ride him cos Im the only Perma ghost with the permission, but you can dream! :D

The MMO is going well, they're fixing some bugs now at decent speed. I did some maps but nothing this year yet. All in all, going well :)

Hey what's your avatar all about? I kinda like it!

I think maybe you should play Platinum again. I really, really liked Gen 4; it's one of my favorite gens!

It's from episode 11 of Digimon Xros Wars! It's a really adorable show that you should totally watch! (The original subbed version, at least! XD) Quite ironic that I'm saying this on a Pokémon forum, haha. :P

Yup, now that I think about it, I honestly wouldn't mind re-playing it! I heard a lot of people saying that it's a bit more challenging than your typical Pokémon game, which is just what I need since I tend to overdo my level-grinding. :D

I'm actually playing a new Platinum cartridge right now! Although I'm trapped with Mira in Wayward Cave.... 3XD

Also I like how the game was done now, I can continue and get a chance to restart later! 8D

Oh, nice! Are you using HM Flash in there? I probably wouldn't, since I dislike wasting move slots for stuff like Flash, haha.

And glad you like the new rules! I'm still pretty much experimenting with them. ;)

All aboard the Giratina train! Toot toot!

Otamajakushi January 24th, 2016 9:58 PM

85 Platinum definitely was more challenging than D/P, but I liked it. I remember doing a dark-type run in Pt, which was incredible!

Plat is one of my favourite games, and gen4 is one of my favourite gens. I like it mistly for nostalgia, but I liked some of the cross-gen evos, and I like how it was hard while still fun at the same time.

Not sure where the talk of Platinum being more challenging than the other games comes from. I don't recall it being any trickier than other games in the series.

Otamajakushi January 25th, 2016 1:53 PM

88 - What Pokemon did you guys use when playing Platinum?

Sothis January 25th, 2016 4:37 PM

89 Torterra here

Otamajakushi January 25th, 2016 7:28 PM

90 Infernape for me!

I honestly can't remember noticing much of a difference either, haha. But according to what I've heard from others, I think the levels were slightly higher? Which would explain why I didn't notice, because I usually level-grind wayyy too much eheheh. :P

I remember having a Torterra, Starpator, and Buizel/Floatzel! Those guys are always on my Sinnoh teams no matter what. :D

Otamajakushi January 25th, 2016 8:00 PM

92 - Oh I agree about Floatzel! I remember when I first encountered Buizel and I thought it was awesome.

Meadow January 25th, 2016 8:09 PM

Yup! And Buizel is super adorable too! <3

Wait for it...

Yes...

I have used ALL the starters in Plat.

I had an Empoleon, Gardevoir, Roserade and Umbreon in my Platinum run. I had a few other team members but those were my main 4.

DyingWillFlareon January 26th, 2016 7:44 AM

97. I had a random Pokemon challenge for Plat and it was I think Bibarel, Staraptor, Mothim(which I really love now), Weavile, Steelix? I really dont remember all of them. QwQ I remember my Diamond team tho, Empoleon, Bibarel, Crobat, Floatzel, Rampardos, and Blissey.

of course not aint nobody got time for that :')

Otamajakushi January 26th, 2016 7:56 AM

98 - I typically don't put HM moves on team members. I am an advocate of the HM Slave.

Poké Bean January 26th, 2016 9:56 AM

I actually like my team members to learn HMs, it kinda makes them feel special to me.

Has anyone bought the Rumble World retail version?

LilyGardy January 26th, 2016 10:12 AM

100.

I am no fan of HMs except Surf.

I have never played Rumble World.

I am now a Ghost. Can I have Misdreavus please Meadow?
