Nuzlocking by default only requires that you use the first Pokemon you find along every route and that fainting = death, right? Even then I'd say it's too easy, because all of Pokemon's "difficulty" can be overcome with grinding. Saddle me with a bunch of useless crap I'd never use and I'll just powerlevel it to 10+ levels above everything else and sweep. Problem solved!

Struggling to think of what hard Pokemon would be like...no items, no levelling any Pokemon past the next Gym Leader's levels, Nuzlocke? No evolution, no stat boosting/inflicting moves, monotype, for added rules? Maybe then the games would require more strategy than just "grind and/or use super effective moves" to beat. Maybe.

Ta. Saw a clean cut of Emil's head and couldn't resist. xD

Well, it's up to the player how to decided the difficulty of the game tbh. When I do Nuzlockes, I try to limit myself to at least one or two levels above the current gym leader. It would be no fun to play a Nuzlocke without deaths.

I can't say that it's fun to lose a mon, but playing with more risk can really make things more interesting.

And that is the beauty of the nuzlocke

So, CoroCoro is hinting at a secret for Marshadow... who thinks what it should be?

jombii May 11th, 2017 7:50 PM

94 probably related to how marshadow has

Spoiler:
it's own Z-move

I've never done Nuzlockes because I don't believe in doing the lazy developer's work for them by restricting myself just for a challenge. These things should really be included in the games, and since that will never happen...eh.

...and honestly, with all I have on my backlog, I just don't have the time. If I want a challenge I'll play something else. xD

Hikamaru May 12th, 2017 12:34 AM

The secret is probably just its special Z-Move, which we knew about thanks to datamines.

May I be allowed to partake in the ongoing discussions. Thank you so very much.

To add to what my esteemed colleague, par excellence, the great Mr. LegendChu said, Variants of Nuzlockes can be done to make the Games harder, but even so, nothing is impossible, victory can be achieved through dedication, hard work & perseverance.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

Monsieur MustaChu

Speaking of dedication and hard work...I'm going to make another living dex on the 6th gen. Getting everything I can with my name. Meaning I'm going to have to go through ORAS and XY three times apiece.

This is how I try and revive my interest in the franchise...by going on "catch 'em all" quests I used to go on in the fourth generation when it was more enjoyable. I think I'm trying too hard ._.

In my Black Nuzlocke I found myself using similar Pokemon than I normally use. In a non-nuzlocke I would have likely used Gothitelle in my Final team anyway. Although due to Nuzlocke rules I used Simisage and the Lillipup line much longer than I would usually.

Pokemon games have always by default been straightforward so they could be accessible to children. The developers know that anyone who wants a self imposed challenge will make one themselves.

It is frustrating though that Europe gets hardly any good events. Being given a normal Midnight Lycanroc when Japan gets Ash Pikachu is very annoying.

Hikamaru May 12th, 2017 6:16 AM

Japan was the country that created Pokemon, so you can understand why they get the better events.

And er I'm a normal ghost now...

LilyGardy May 12th, 2017 6:39 AM

101.

Maybe but they could at least give us something good. Made the Lycanroc Shiny or something.

Given how my familiarity with Unova made my Nuzlocke easier I am thinking of Nuzlocking Pearl next. But which starter?

Narwhal May 12th, 2017 6:55 AM

If youre nuzlocking Pearl try piplup lol

LilyGardy May 12th, 2017 7:02 AM

Piplup works for me. Just need to keep him away from Gardenia.

Congratulations on the achievement young lady, you now join the ranks of the ever inspirational, the great Lord LegendChu.

I would want to know if any of you lovely people have successfully completed an Electric monotype run?

A reminder I have actually been ghosted when I hit the 100th post on a previous occasion as well. I may boo you if you don't know it!

LilyGardy May 12th, 2017 9:59 AM

106.

I have completed numerous Grass Monotypes and a Psychic White 2 Monotype. Never done a Electric Monotype though.

My Pearl Nuzlocke team so far - Piplup and Shinx.

pkmin3033 May 12th, 2017 10:46 AM

107

I very nearly made my first X run a Fire monotype, if only because there were so many fire types along the early routes I wanted to use.

In my current OR file I could feasibly do a Fighting monotype, but after Super Training four Pokemon I'm not really in the mood to hunt for a Dawn Stone for my Kirlia...and Gardevoir is better than Gallade anyway. Although I might swap Gardevoir for Latios when I get it...

That and using something you may never use in a normal playthrough.

Never done a monotype run of any kind but if I ever did electric would definitely be my first go to.

Wait are monotype nuzlockes a thing?

Hopefully you're able to pick up a starly or something then.

jombii May 12th, 2017 5:14 PM

109

Yeah. I aam using a Fearow now lol. Of all mons.

Also, monotype nuzlocke is a thing. It's just so difficult lol

pkmin3033 May 12th, 2017 9:45 PM

110

I imagine most monotype Nuzlockes turn into Normal or Flying-type runs...unless you plan on using your starter for the entire game, anyway.

LegendChu May 13th, 2017 12:22 AM

111

Or you use forced Encounter Codes ;).

Pika Pika :chu:

pkmin3033 May 13th, 2017 1:14 AM

112

Doesn't that just defeat the whole purpose of a Nuzlocke, though? It's not very challenging if you can just pick the Pokemon you want, even if it's a monotype run.

Hikamaru May 13th, 2017 4:54 AM

113

Well, some people may play with a clause so they don't get stuck with a male Combee for an encounter. And maybe it applies to Salandit in SM to an extent as well.

pkmin3033 May 13th, 2017 5:01 AM

114

But clauses like that only make it less challenging! If you want to go out you shouldn't evolve your Pokemon at all! Boo! /shot

...but I guess you play however you find it most enjoyable. God knows I don't go all out very much on games these days.
