I faintly remember picking Charmander in Blue. The main reason being because I knew it evolved into Charizard (epic dragon). I remember kicking myself over that decision early in the game though because I found it incredibly difficult to defeat Brock and Misty especially. Considering the type disadvantage and the lack of variety at the point in the game, it was a challenge to beat them.

This time around on the 3DS I think I will opt for Squirtle (sorry Bulbasaur). I personally prefer it over all three as I find Charizard super overrated. I really like Bulbasaur too, but I definitely prefer Blastoise over Venusaur in the long-run. I just can't wait to revisit my childhood more than anything really. Of course with a modern twist and a more mature and well-informed perspective on the game mechanics, type match ups and plot. I'm tempted to start planning my team; I have a few Pokemon in mind already, but I might just go with the flow and catch whatever attracts my attention.

Taemin January 25th, 2016 9:23 AM

It depends. Part of me is really tempted to get Yellow just for Pikachu. ewe

At the same time, I'd love to raise a Charmander again and get Red version. When I was younger I played mostly Blue, since Red belonged to a friend of mine. So I'll probably go with Red and pick Charmander.

Melody January 25th, 2016 9:40 AM

I was, and always will be a Squirtle girl at heart. :3

Water types are amazing. Their versatility has helped me overcome even the most ridiculous of storylines. (I'm looking at you G5)

Raburesu January 25th, 2016 4:08 PM

No love for Bulbasaur, as expected, despite its superiority over the other two...

I'm not sure my selection will matter much, as I'll likely ditch my Starter as soon as possible. I'd like a more I'm-not-just-Red-from-Pallet kind of team with this upcoming playthrough. :)

Hiidoran January 25th, 2016 4:30 PM

I'm pretty sure I'm going to get Yellow, and despite that, I chose Charmander. Just not a fan of that Pikachu, but I do want to get the other two starters without buying myself multiple games.

Right? I was thinking about doing the same this time around.

Thepowaofhax January 25th, 2016 4:40 PM

As I'll most likely be playing Yellow and doing a Poison-type monotype, I'd be forced to use Pikachu until I get Nidoran for the first gym.

Sheep January 25th, 2016 6:34 PM

Oh my gooosh. D: Honestly the more I look at this thread the more I find it hard to decide.

But.. probably Bulbasaur.
http://pldh.net/media/pokemon/gen1/redblue/001.png

I've grown very attached to it ever since Ash captured his in the anime and it has worked hard for me when I used it. Very useful against the first few gym leaders even if it does become more difficult to use later on.

There's also Squirtle solely because I love Wartortle, and Pikachu because it's adorable and is our mascot. I've used every one of these guys many times in the past but Bulbasaur will probably be my top followed by Pikachu. <3

When I get the games on Virtual Console I'll probably grab Bulbasaur yet again.

pkmin3033 January 25th, 2016 11:32 PM

I pick...all of them. In Red/Blue I'll start the game with one, trade it to the other, then trade it back so I have all three and catch a Pikachu in the Viridian Forest (hopefully after a few minutes, not several hours) and in Yellow you get all three as part of the story anyway.

Although in Red I might pick Charmander again and see how different my game is now that I know what I'm doing. I didn't have the best of times the first time I played Pokemon, because the concepts of type advantage and level grinding were new to me. It'll be interesting to see how much hassle certain parts of the game give me this time around.

Wicked3DS January 26th, 2016 5:25 AM

I will pick Charmander naturally, since Charizard is my favorite Pokémon. Though since I'll have Blue and Red, I'll probably pick Squirtle in one of them as well just to switch it up a bit.

Sylphiel January 26th, 2016 6:45 AM

It'll most likely be that bulbasaur. :D

Always been my favorite among that starter set, I always tend to pick it whenever given the choice, how could I not say yes to choosing it again?

Keira January 26th, 2016 6:52 AM

I'll pick Bulbasaur for the easy carry through the first few gyms, then chuck it in a box and roll with a Diglett the second I catch it. Because diglett is so cute.

Judge Mandolore Shepard January 26th, 2016 7:13 AM

Well when it comes to which Pokemon I will choose, it is quite obvious given the fact that I like starting with the Water type starter. In this case, I will be choosing Squirtle.

blue January 26th, 2016 7:30 AM

Always Bulbasaur for me as it was my first starter back when I played Blue. I have used all three starters through different games, but Bulbasaur remains my favourite of the Kanto starters. 8)

Life January 26th, 2016 7:43 AM

In a Red/Blue playthrough I would usually end up choosing Bulbasaur as my main starter - mainly because I find there's better water types to aquire over Squirtle - like Starmie or Gyarados. As for why I wouldn't choose Charmander - I dislike Fire Type Pokemon.

I'm not getting Yellow since I'd usually end up catching a Pikachu in Viridian Forest anyways; sooooooooooo.....

fenyx4 January 26th, 2016 11:00 AM

I'm probably not getting the Pokemon Red and Pokemon Yellow re-releases anytime soon, but Charmander would be my starter Pokemon pick, mostly because of T3H FIR3H and because dragons are awesome. Under normal circumstances, Pikachu would be my second or third pick, since I like the thought of so much electrical power bundled into a tiny cute rodent. Squirtle would be my third or second pick, due to Blastoise being extremely well designed. Bulbasaur would be my fourth pick...he's nicely designed, although the evolutions, while sensible/logical, kind of leave something to be desired.. :<

It's kind of weird how people pick the "opposite starter Pokemon" of their version mascot Pokemon (namely, Charmander in Pokemon Blue and Squirtle in Pokemon Red), although I guess version-exclusive Pokemon factor into the mix (and those screwed-up Celadon Game Corner Pokemon prices), not to mention that "favorite color" may be separate from "preferred Kanto starter Pokemon"..

Otamajakushi January 26th, 2016 11:50 AM

I think I'm going to pick Charmander first, but I'll eventually want to get all of the starters to play with. It just seems right to do a run with Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, AND Pikachu. It'll be fun and I would suggest you consider trying the same.

Biogoji January 27th, 2016 2:54 AM

I'm getting Pokémon Red and will be going with my favourite Pokémon Bulbasaur as I want with Squirtle in my Blue Psychical copy game and I would all around prefer to go with Bulbasaur.

I tend to prefer water starters myself! (high fives both Melody and Shepard).

If I were to play the RBY games, for R/B I might go for Squirtle since he's my favorite and Yellow Pikachu and Charizard. I do love Bulbsaur too, but I recently trained one when playing X so I guess maybe next time.

curiousnathan January 28th, 2016 5:49 AM

I'm super surprised at how many Bulbasaur fans there actually are!

Early January 28th, 2016 11:38 AM

Pikachu is one of my favorite Pokemon, but I have a soft spot for Bulbasaur; possibly because it always seems to be the underdog. It's a close tie between those two, but I'd love to have both and wouldn't mind starting with one or the other.

Arylett Charnoa January 28th, 2016 12:17 PM

Though I have no plans for obtaining the 3DS re-releases of RBY, the starter I typically pick is Grass-type. It's just a pattern I fall into. (With the special exception of Gen VI. I just love me some Braixens) So I would pick Bulbasaur. I do like it and Ivysaur, though I think Venusaur is just ugly as sin. It's enough to make me consider just keeping it as Ivysaur, to be honest.

Well, its large fat more toadlike structure is a huge turn-off to me. It also gains some rather unappealing bumps all over its body. But honestly, I think the worst thing about it is its face. That wide face with those eyes. The eyes on Bulbasaur and Ivysaur looked cute, and their faces weren't so wide. They both looked attentive and intelligent, whilst Venusaur looks like it got significantly stupider. I'm just not into big bulky monsters either. The only thing I find appealing about it is the flower on its back, but that was in the making from its previous evolutions.

Sirenita55 January 29th, 2016 1:25 PM

Playing Red as a kid, I chose Charmander. When I had the choice in X, Charmander was chosen again :) If I get the remakes, I'll pick it again of course!

Kikaito plush January 30th, 2016 5:55 AM

I didn't have red/blue when I was younger so I had pikachu as my starter.
If I get Red or blue on the 3DS I'll probably go with Squirtle as it's my favorite kanto startr.

DePyro January 31st, 2016 10:13 AM

I just wanna say anyone who was around for red and blue in 98 was excited to hear about the release on Feb, 27. My only question and the deciding factor on if I buy it. I want to catch missingo use hm02 and make it learn fly then use rare candy let it evolve and have a kangaskhan with fly and sky attack :)

I did that in blue and a lot of the other kids were like AAAAAAHHH NO FAIR! when they could do it easily too. XD

Hahaha I'm kind of the opposite, part of me wants to relive the nostalgia and get a very Red-from-Pallet kind of team :P but then another part of me wants to experience all the cool Kanto Pokemon that I've never really used.

I chose Squirtle in the originals and I'll most likely be choosing it again. It's probably my favourite Pokemon hands-down so it's a pretty easy choice :P I love the other two but they just can't compete hahaha. I've always been fond of the Squirtle line's design, and I loved Ash's Squirtle as a kid (and I have this talking Squirtle toy from when I was a kid too that I recently found again hahaha).

Antlers2010 February 18th, 2016 3:43 PM

Charmander! Mainly because I was playing Pokemon Red, but also because I like getting the shit kicked outta me by Brock's Onix XD Nah I jest I dunno what it was about him he just seemed right to me ^.^

milkyfriend February 18th, 2016 3:58 PM

I absolutely adore Squirtle, charmander and pikachu but since it's the only one I've never used in-game I'm gonna pick bulbasaur this time round C:

165 Power Razor Leaf, man! :D

RedJ February 19th, 2016 11:15 PM

Red: Bulbasaur. It's always been my favorite of the three.
Blue: Squirtle. It was what I ended up with after resetting and playing around with each starter the first time I played Red because I was eight and getting impatient by the time I got to Squirtle even though Bulbasaur was my favorite, and it ended up being my first level 100 Pokemon and it carried through both Red and Yellow when I traded it over, so starting with Squirtle when I finally play Blue feels appropriate.
Yellow: All of them because I'm boring.

Felkyr February 20th, 2016 12:45 AM

>>>Hey Hiroshi. Happy to see another Melbournian on a forum XD --- I'm living away for this year but I come back every couple of months for stuff. We should do battle on 1st-gen sometime.
>>>By the way, I have to go with Pikachu since I'm getting Special Pikachu Edition for my 3DSXL. I really do love how the Japanese green 2DS looks as well. I'd like to be able to get it to also play Fire Emblem on but I think I'm going to miss out this time 'round.

hey if you go up by the patch of grass to the left of viridian city, before the first battle with Gary, you can easily catch a nidoran (female) :D

Nas160 March 4th, 2016 7:31 PM

I bought both Red and Yellow versions, but I have planned to and am currently playing only Red primarily. As has been tradition for me for a long time, I've picked the Fire starter- in this case Charmander, and named him Match. He's currently level 19, and I've yet to let him evolve as I'm hoping to get some good moves early.

Dunsparce March 5th, 2016 5:38 AM

Bulbasaur is pretty much always my pick. It gets many fancy tricks up its sleeve in first gen, like Toxic + Leech Seed for turning any encounter into something trivial due to the two moves stacking in 1st gen, to Swords Dance + Body Slam to smash past foes. It also gains the excellent Sleep Powder to make capturing easier and Razor Leaf, which due to the 1st gen mechanics almost always crits making it effectively a 110 power(165 after STAB) move that ignores defensive boosts with a very high amount of PP.

ImperialMeatbag April 3rd, 2016 3:57 PM

Squirtle has always been my favorite RBY starter. But I wasn't going to use him on both Red and Blue, so I picked Charmander on Red.

ShaGaL April 5th, 2016 11:11 AM

Charmander always charmander :D

Patoto April 6th, 2016 10:32 AM

if I can't get Pikachu i would go for Squirtle.. Blastoise is awesome.

Hikamaru April 6th, 2016 12:56 PM

I would personally say Squirtle is my fave of the bunch, but I do love Bulbasaur as well. My Water-type favouritism showing here once again.

chrisluketaylor April 12th, 2016 2:50 PM

I always prefer bulbasaur, leech seed and toxic is really OP in RBY. Plus the movest of bulbasaur could be used in more interesting ways than blastoise or charizard. TBH I would always prefer squirtle the least as once you get the super rod or surf capability, water types are in great abundance and some are far more intersting to use than blastoise is.

Qinshi April 15th, 2016 11:33 PM

I never played the first generation pokémon with bulbasaur.
Dont know why, i never liked that grass pokémon. Looked not awesome enough.

A Dragon or a turtle with 2 cannons on it, was way cooler than a green creature with a flower.

My very first playthrough on pokémon red: Squirtle.

Abraxas105 April 23rd, 2016 4:36 PM

I've always started with Charmander. Charizard has always been my favorite pokemon. Which explains why every new game I always start with the fire pokemon. The exception being pokemon black and white. I started with Snivy because he looked cool. I actually hated black and white. For the love of it I just could not get into the game at all. But I think that was the only time I broke my fire choosing cycle. Tepig just reminded me of a fat Gannondorf.

Eden April 26th, 2016 12:08 AM

During my first ever Red run I picked Squirtle. I felt the need to repeat that decision in the re-releases. It was often one of the only Pokemon I ever needed to complete a playthrough.

pokefreaker May 19th, 2016 12:37 AM

bulbasaur because i like gardening

Shadowless420 June 20th, 2016 10:54 AM

Charmander! He was my first ever Pokemon, and I like how he sounds in the anime too haha.

Flower June 30th, 2016 8:56 PM

I love them all (particularly Bulbasaur!!) but I'll have to go with Charmander here. The first ever starter I owned on the first ever playthrough I did.... Charmander just means a lot to me. ♥ Plus I love Fire-types, though some other types do top that heheh.

Lapis July 3rd, 2016 9:17 PM

I would choose the adorable Bulbasaur of course! I need to have my beautiful Venusaur. ^_^

Desert Stream~ July 4th, 2016 5:23 AM

I like squirtle and bulbasaur.

Del July 4th, 2016 1:00 PM

I always choose Pikachu, I like electric Pokemon even they have low defense...
As for R/B I like to take Charmander!

Dracowyn July 5th, 2016 11:05 PM

Nowadays, Id pick Charmander cause Charizard became my favorite Kanto pokemon during the years. But for the actual re-releases of the game I picked Squirtle for old time's sake.

I picked Squirtle way back then as my first Pokémon. And it's still one of my faves today. All 3 Kanto starters are special to me though.

machomuu July 8th, 2016 5:35 PM

Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur, Bulbasaur.

He's my favorite, at least. Why? I couldn't tell you. And I like the other two quite a bit, especially design-wise. Bulbasaur is love, though, and love feels damn good.

arkotype August 2nd, 2016 9:13 PM

I always went for whichever the cart colour matched - I think I originally had blue so it was Squirtle.

Monnotonne August 2nd, 2016 9:20 PM

I'm surprised Bulbasaur is doing so well. He was always definitely the third wheel when it came to the starters.

Or I guess fourth wheel, considering.

JCarrill0 August 3rd, 2016 8:04 AM

I love starting with Charmander, always game a me a better sense of challenging.

I will add I recently started up RBY on my PC and I cheated a bit, by giving myself all 3. What I did was save right before Getting the choice, then after choosing charmander on my main, I used the back up saves to transfer the other 2. muahahha! (I figured I'll never be able to play/trade with anyone on emu version so.. oh well)

CoffeeDrink August 3rd, 2016 9:11 PM

Poison types are the best, so Bulbasaur of course.

tranceking26 August 14th, 2016 4:58 AM

Charmander. I picked it in Red when I first ever played. Also Charizard is my fav pokémon so I would pick again too.

AmetsuCAT August 14th, 2016 5:52 AM

Since I got Yellow it will have to be Pikachu...sigh.
When I find Squirtle, he will be getting left let me tell you! Unless there's a Thunder Stone, then I'll be evolving him at least. :3

boomc123 August 14th, 2016 2:37 PM

I had blue but always picked Charmander or Bulbasaur as a starter :)

Bulbasaur is super useful in Kanto c: I liked to use it, but my favorite out of these starters is still Charmander. Picking that is like playing Kanto on hard-mode though lol. Pikachu was okay, but I kind of often switched it out d: It bothered me that it wouldn't evolve haha.

Rodroek August 20th, 2016 11:28 PM

The first time I played Pokémon Red (around '99) I remember choosing Charmander, Charizard was just too fiery, dragony and overall just too cool for my 5 years old mind. Now, playing Pokémon Red again, I picked Bulbasaur. He just has enough everything (bulk, utility and offense, even half-decent speed) and seems to fit nicer roles in any given team.

DragonThale September 1st, 2016 3:44 AM

Well ofcourse im picking charmander! Well duh because it evolves into charizard, one of my favorite pokemon in gen one. *-*

SeventhDawn September 16th, 2016 7:19 AM

My first game was Yellow, so I started out with a Pikachu. In LeafGreen I went with Squirtle. He is my favorite of the four.

Ky0greK1ng September 16th, 2016 11:55 AM

Despite choosing Charmander for my first playthrough, I voted for Bulbasaur! I think his name is creative and his design is adorable!

Personally, I think Charizard is overrated design-wise... His stats are definitely better than Venusaur's.

Altaria September 16th, 2016 1:29 PM

Bulbasaur is my very favorite ♡

Deliciousfruit233 September 28th, 2016 10:43 AM

I feel like time has been very kind to Bulbasaur. After the Charizard hype faded, people seem to have finally noticed that Venusaur is better when it comes to battling (at least until Gamefreak showered Charizard with fanservice buffs in gen 6). Now people are a lot more aware of Gen 1's crit mechanics, as well as how awesome Sleep Powder is, and the fact that Charizard's greatest fear for years was freaking rocks, kinda causing it to not look so great anymore. As for Venusaur, it has been pretty consistently good throughout the years.

But, due to nostalgia, and the fact that rocks are kind of a joke in gen 1, I'll be going with Charmander on the VC.

RetroPokeman October 3rd, 2016 6:29 PM

Squirtle. Why? Because I like turtles.

Altairis October 8th, 2016 1:42 PM

Charmander is my absolute favorite Kanto starter. I like Pikachu a lot as well, but Charizard wins me over every time.

KidCarter93 October 8th, 2016 8:02 PM

Charmander, of course. When I first played Red in '98, I chose Charmander because of Charizard being on the cover art. Back then, I naively thought that the cover Pokémon must be the best in the game.

I'm planning on picking up a 3DS soon (finally) and will go with the same choice. I can't go against nostalgia ;)

Palmer-Granate October 10th, 2016 9:07 PM

Why choose between the three when you can have four. I will continue to be a huge fan of Yellow, so Pikachu it is.

Guest123_x1 October 22nd, 2016 7:20 PM

When I had Blue in physical Game Pak form, I picked Bulbasaur as the starter. Many years ago, I remember reading in a gaming magazine (don't remember exactly which, though) saying that players could only choose Bulbasaur, and that if they chose Charmander or Squirtle, they had to trade with someone for a Bulbasaur.
Ten years after trading in my Game Boy Pokémon games, I bought the Virtual Console re-releases of all three internationally-released Gen. I games for my 2DS. On the VC copy of Blue, I again chose Bulbasaur, as I wished to relive my experience that I had years ago with Blue on my Game Boy Color as much as I could (to the point of having many of the same Pokémon I had then on this playing of that version.)

On Red, which I never had in its Game Pak form, I chose Squirtle, which also is advantageous against Brock (probably the reason why the aforementioned gaming magazine told readers about picking Bulbasaur). I never liked that everybody bragged about having Charmander/Charmeleon/Charizard back in the day, especially since it was at a disadvantage against the first two gyms.

On Yellow, even though every player was stuck with starting with Pikachu, I put Bulbasaur and Squirtle on my team when I got them. Again, I don't care about Charmander, so I never bothered putting him on my team on this or any other game.

Imperator161 October 23rd, 2016 11:35 AM

With the exception of a few challenge runs, I have always gone with Squirtle. Blastoise was the first Pokemon I learned about, so it got me into the series, in a certain sense. Since then, it has always been my favorite Pokemon, and thus, unless I'm playing Yellow, I feel compelled to start with Squirtle. (And if I am playing Yellow, I use all of the starters on my team.)

Gandhi Savage October 24th, 2016 7:09 AM

Squirtle is always gonna be my #1! When I was a kid I got a pre-owned copy of Blue with a Blastoise that was super high levelled. I loved my adopted Pokémon so much and it was the first Pokémon I ever used. It's so beautiful and lovable mannnn, it was my favourite Pokémon for the longest time too.

I didn't sell you my copy, did I? Ohohohoho! I remember selling all three of my cartridges to some kid around '07. I stupidly sold them along with my DS Lite. I was strapped for cash and I seriously regret that decision...

Anyways, Squirtle because Pokémon Blue is the best of the three in my opinion. Fuck Pikachu. I love Electric types, but goddamn. Pikachu was a brat in Pokémon Yellow. You want a Raichu? Too bad. I Boxed him as soon as I grabbed Magnemite.

EtherealStorm October 26th, 2016 9:01 PM

Charmander Why you may ask. Why not os the better question especially after I name It Drac after Dracula

Ohohoho! That and I think we're on two different continents!

Florges October 29th, 2016 8:30 PM

Sans Pikachu, I love all three starters. They are all greatly designed and do well in game. But I have to go with my boy Squirtle. Simply because when I play the game, I want Ninetails and Vileplume on my team, and that fills the need for a grass and fire type.

a6stringpoet October 30th, 2016 8:05 AM

I'd say Bulbasaur as my choice.

Though I almost always pick Charmander because he is the only fire type until Vulpix and Growlith pop up along the line.

I don't really need the type advantage at this point because I already tend to use Butterfree and confusion to humble Brock, and Pikachu against Misty.

However, I think it's kind of fun to Leech Seed and Poison Powder things to death. Totally inefficient, but hilarious at times.

I always go with my emotions and pick Charmander, even though he is the toughest to raise. This is because I really fell in love with Ash's on the tv show. His backstory as an abandoned Pokemon awaiting the return of his trainer made you really want to hold him close, it was that much more endearing because he turned out to become Ash's most powerful Pokemon in Kanto, he was the one you called when all hope seemed lost to try to make a comeback. Then he turned into a glorious medieval dragon and became at times the most noble and others the naughtiest teammate Ash ever had. Charizard is one colorful character who could bring formidable style, unexpected humor or deep emotion to the story.

I was so excited as a 10 year old when I discovered there were these games called Pokemon red, blue and yellow because it meant there was a way for me to raise my own charizard!!

I am really fond of the gen 1 fire types and would often monotype with them, they were always awe-inspiring creatures like dragons, tigers, kitsune, firebirds and unicorns.

I also enjoyed playing with all three of the starters in this generation over and over again and these will always be my favorite starters.

While I have yet to play Red or Blue, I definitely gave Yellow a shot. That would put me at Team Pikachu.

Pokemon Yellow is a game I would replay over and over again, and still do! However, if I were to try R/B in the future, I would go for Squirtle. I've abused Charmander in the PMD games, and Bulbasaur is my least favorite of the three (although the cutest, let me tell you).

Charmander now. Charmander forever. Although I did like my Yellow version for variety when it came to starters. I have started with Squirtle and Bulbasaur, but they're just not... Charmander.

I don't really like Pikachu because I don't think it deserves most of the praise it gets. I bet if it wasn't a starter/mascot, it wouldn't be nearly as popular.

I've always had a soft spot for Bulbasaur. Seems like the underdog of the bunch.

I've always been a big water type fan. When I was a kid I collected the cards and watched the show and occasionally watched my best friend play the games, and I basically wanted to be Misty. (And will always regret letting said best friend convince me to trade my Blastoise card for a Charizard.) So when I finally a chance to play the games this year, there was no question of what to pick; I'd known for years that Squirtle would be my starter. So I did my first game of Blue with Squirtle, and he did not disappoint. (I also played with Squirtle in LeafGreen, and will probably do a solo Squirtle run of one of the Kanto games at some point.)
In Yellow, I used all four of the starters on my team, and really enjoyed that. I can definitely appreciate each of their strengths. I feel like Bulbasaur is the best grass type I've ever played with (though I'll admit I tend to find grass types not much use in general). Charizard was awesome in Yellow, but I wouldn't want to use it in a game where it can't learn Fly. I never minded Yellow Pikachu not evolving; Pikachu is one of my favorite Electric types to have on my team in any game and I never evolve it.

Though I picked Bulbasaur, I'm still surprised that Bulbasaur haves more votes than Squirtle and that Pikachu has lowest votes despite being mascot of the series.

Recently I picked Charmander in Pokemon Blue, as for a challenge early on. :]

Though my favourite from the bunch is Bulbasaur because it's pretty amazingly bulky and powerful with it's grass moves. Venusaur is outstanding to use. <33

Charmander!

Cool_Porygon March 18th, 2017 9:00 PM

Charmander was my favourite as a kid. I like all the starters and their evolutions.

Radiating March 18th, 2017 9:08 PM

Charmander for me, it the first Pokemon I had in any game. It also got 2 very good mega evolutions as Charizard.

when i open my leafgreen game on my birthday this year, i'm choosing squirtle *female hopefully*, because currently i have bulbasaur *name is rose... even thought there was not gender in that game* on my yellow game, a female charmander *name is fia* on pokemon x.... so i thought why not :)

i love that turtle :)

Why are you suprised? Bulbasaur is the best Gen 1 starter, no exception. In fact, it's only recently been surpassed as best starter Pokemon of all time. By Rowlet, the greatest Pokemon to ever exist.

Hey guys ! I have compared the starters of the Kanto region and came up with the best one according to my opinions . So feel free to check it out !

I'd pick Bulbasaur, Back in the Gen 1 days Grass types were OP! Even my first play through I picked Bulbasuar, not sure why but I did. But since Gen 1 the grass starter has never been really that viable unless its Sapphire and you pick Treecko. Big up the ugly flower toad!

I've always used charmander

CodeHelmet June 30th, 2017 12:00 PM

Pikachu and not because I own Yellow version but because it's super effective against Pidgey and Spearow(two flying types you face early on) and learns Thunder Wave really early, an excellent status move that makes catching that much easier early on. Plus Yellow version naturally learns Thunderbolt and is the perfect option for Misty(Mankey or Nidoran can handle Brock).

ThunderCorp. July 28th, 2017 7:14 AM

Bulbasaur, hands down.
The reason you ask? Well first, no one chose it (poor thing). Second, Bulbasaur is the best starter you could have. He was cute, Ivysaur was cool and Venusaur was badass. It also was good in battling (type-wise). My brother chose Squirtle for his leaf-green and still hasnt finished the game, while I beat it my FireRed and also completed the post-game. I chose a Charmander in one of thos Pokemon RPG simulators (Pokemon World Online, if anyone wanted to know) and it took a lot longer to beat Kanto then it did in my FireRed even though it was the same basic stuff. So if I want to choose a starter, Bulbasaur it is

K2VoltHD July 29th, 2017 4:57 AM

To be honest, I would go for Charmander because even though that Charmander has problems at the first and second gym due to its typing. But Charmander has a lot of potential than the other three, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle like its moveset and can evolve into a really strong Charizard.

Knost July 29th, 2017 4:38 PM

The first Pokémon I ever chose was Charamander in Red Version, so if I'm playing RED the choice would be the same every time. When I play Blue I flip a coin between Squirtle and Bulbasuar (though I prefer Bulbasuar).

All that said, CHARIZARD FOR LIFE!!! lol
