#7 Atmospheric
Spoiler:
Pixel Challenge #7

Atmospheric
a study of merrigo

:pokeball: You are to make a pixel art with works of the pixel artist merrigo (amanda) in mind! Many of you might know that she did some of the artwork for Undertale!

There are many amazing things I can say about this artist, but we are to focus on the atmosphere of her pixel and landscape works.
She often has a very limited but amazing pallet that tackles large swaths of clouds and skies with minimal, if not any dithering! The lighting in this artist's work is something that should be studied closely.
I don't want you to copy her work, but to let it inspire you, or try and use the color pallets that she has.

I don't have any set restrictions, but it's recommended to go large!

:pokeball: For this week.... (#7)
You'll get 35 points for doing your first sprite. You then will get 25 points for every sprite after, up to 2 extra sprites.
Last week was a big pointer because it was catch up, but this one is a big pointer cause it's hard!
I'm willing to give partial points for WIPs so please post them too!

My humble addition.

I've got way too many ideas to whittle this down to one design, haha.

That first blob man, that one is challenging.

I know it needs a bit more shading but I've got to get back to studying :P So I might come back to it later this week.

Cyberglass January 27th, 2016 8:45 PM

Looks like a fun challenge idea.

http://i898.photobucket.com/albums/ac189/MTOrigami/Miscellaneous%20pixels/snake.png

This does seem to be the popular silhouette, doesn't it? I'll just have to try to come up with something for the other two this week to even things out.

Here's my updated snake. Oh! looks like more people made snakes too! They look amazing!

Logiedan January 28th, 2016 9:31 PM

It looks like other people saw a snake too! I was going to go for some funky big-lipped cobra, but I thought of another idea and something close to the community or 'home.'

The anatomy of Sawk looks sort of awkward but I was content with the current look of it. The blob is definitely tough to work around with this idea.

ZKE January 29th, 2016 9:16 PM

So I don't think I can look at pixels much more tonight.
EDIT: Tuned up a few areas for Zygarde.

Another Edit: Man, some of the work you guys are posting is phenomenal. So jealous. Relicanth is giving me no end of hassle on third blob and Octillery refuses to shape up. Might need to try some other 'mons.

Too lazy to refine it, but had to get my idea out there haha-- I might revisit it, but in the meantime I'll just submit the WIP!

I tried to fit Renji Abarai's Bankai(Hihiou Zabimaru),but it went terribly awful:

Hey guys! You all did great, and I'll tally up points soon and update the first post, but I'm feeling a little under the weather right now.
I will however give you the second challenge! Like I said before, you have 24 hours after this post to just go ahead and finish up the first challenge.

Pixel Challenge #2

:pokeball: This week, we're going to do small pixel foods! Anything you want!
  • Make sure it fits into a 32 x 32 square.
  • Use 8 colors total!

:pokeball: For this week.... (#2)
You'll get 10 points for doing your first sprite. You then will get 3 points for every sprite after, up to 5 extra sprites.

I think these are fun so why not..

I got impatient and took a bite..

How do you guys pixel so well on a regular basis ;-;

First time trying pixel art from scratch - 4 colours is hard :s
I'll be back to fix this later for personal sanity.

Cyberglass February 1st, 2016 3:26 PM

Almost forgot to post this! Thank goodness for those 24 hours.

Just a regular pelican, but inspired by Pelipper's colors.

ZKE February 1st, 2016 4:45 PM

I think that looks pretty good zappyspiker.

And now for my last and sloppiest entry, but first some (dis)honorable mentions for the failures!

One ugly Roserade 2x and a shoddy Mismagius were the next-most completed of my six attempts at this silhouette. The earliest three don't even bare mentioning at this point.

Blech. So, enough wasted words. Have a terribad Lugia for my last submission. The anatomy is, uh, awry, with the foot facing us raised and the tail swinging around the back of the body.

7 colours + 1 for transparency

This challenge gave me pretty good practice with colour choice and hue shifting. I think it could use more touch-ups but I'm content with it. I'm not that great with shading fruit, especially a multifaceted fruit like an apple.

Nina February 1st, 2016 8:47 PM

Not counting the food sprites anyone has done so far, we have the point for the first week's challenge!

Fan Favorite: Getting the most likes, the bonus +5 are awarded to Logieden this week!
